61  Economy / Marketplace / Re: More info on organic beef and pork for Bitcoin on: January 12, 2012, 09:53:05 PM
I really hope this works out well. Agriculture is the foundation of a strong economy.
62  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How to contribute to bitcoin ? on: January 07, 2012, 03:59:26 AM
I agree with most of what's posted here. What bitcoin need the most is to be used as part of an economy in exchange for goods and services. In other words, less commodity, more currency.

Looks great. You clearly put a ton of work into it.
64  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: BITCOIN booth at CES Las Vegas! Tell all reporters! on: January 05, 2012, 05:04:36 PM
Good luck guys. Maybe you could also sell something for bitcoins from the booth...let people try it out first hand?
65  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoins are not, in practice, fungible on: January 05, 2012, 12:44:13 AM
I think it's just like cash. If you show up at a bank with a ton of cash, you better believe they're going to ask questions. No reason Mt. Gox has to make it easier for people to move around stolen coins.
66  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Needed: short examples of organisations rejecting BTC based on legal concerns on: January 04, 2012, 03:22:33 AM
I believe wikipedia cited their fiduciary duties in not accepting bitcoin. That's a legal reason.
67  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoins are not, in practice, fungible on: January 03, 2012, 10:13:35 PM
I think it's a good idea to do this kind of tracing of stolen coins. Theoretically, if people know that if they buy stolen coins they might not be able to resell them, they might not buy them in the first place. As a result, thieves will have a tougher time unloading stolen coins.
68  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Stackoverflow / stackexchange rewards on: January 03, 2012, 08:18:34 PM
Wow, that's a really great idea. I like how it doesn't require any extra software and basically creates a real bounty system.
69  Bitcoin / Project Development / [ANN/Please help test] BtcBuckets.com on: December 29, 2011, 09:38:41 PM
Hello all,

I'd like to introduce my new Bitcoin project, BTCBuckets.com. Basically, it is an InstaWallet clone with a few added features that I think really play into some of Bitcoin's advantages. Specifically, BtcBuckets allows you to distribute bitcoins automatically at fixed time intervals. Also, each bucket (similar to a wallet), has a public viewing URL as well as an administrative URL. Right now, the site is testnet only! I would be much obliged if people would give it a try and let me know what they think.

Edit:

I'd like to mention some potential use cases. Buckets are designed to be easily bought and sold. A seller could advertise a bucket from its public URL, and transfer the administrative URL after receiving payment. Another example could be automatic charity distribution. You could add spouts to a bucket for each charity in the proportion of their importance to you. Whenever you had money for charity, you could just put it in the bucket.

Thanks!

I can be contacted at greg@btcbuckets.com
70  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Internet Archive (Home of the Wayback Machine) Accepting Bitcoin Donations! on: December 14, 2011, 06:06:27 PM
It would be nice if they could spend the money as bitcoins. I'd imagine they could probably use it to buy some stuff at memory dealers for their serves. Does anyone know if there's anyone offering office supplies for bitcoin? It's not glamorous, but I'd imagine almost every charity that accepts bitcoins would need office supplies of some sort.
71  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: JSON-RPC API change: Explicit handling of transaction fees on: December 06, 2011, 03:51:27 AM
Hey Luke,

Thanks for the patch. I'm trying to use it to send bitcoins automatically at a certain rate, with fees included. In other words, if I'm trying to send 1 coin, I'd like the transaction + the fee to total to 1BTC. Currently, I have the client attempt to send a coin with no fees to create an error reporting the fee and subtracting that fee from the amount I'm going to send.

I get the feeling that this is an unreliable way to do things though. Is there a better way to make this happen?

Thanks to everyone who worked hard on this release!

Yeah that's a great idea, i'll give it a shot. Thanks
75  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Recent client build changes confirmation behavior? on: November 17, 2011, 03:08:30 AM
Hey,

I'm currently working on a basic bitcoin web app. I recently switched over to a self build of the bitcoin client to try and use sendtomany. However, it seems that the new compilation won't list coins to the balance or allow spending until the transactions have a bunch of confirmations. Is there any way I can get the old behavior where I could send coins out again almost immediately? Waiting for confirmations is slowing development. I'm working on testnet for development, so I'm not worried about double spends.

Thanks for any help,

Greg

Hello,

My name is Greg. I've been following bitcoin since May. Right now I'm working on a simple bitcoin based web app. I'm not big on posting on forums but I need to ask a couple questions about the technical stuff, patching the bitcoind source and whatnot. I'd love to be whitelisted so I can get out there.

Thanks a lot,

Greg

I'm in the newbie thread as well. My name is Greg, I'm a (pending results of the NY/NJ bar exams) lawyer. I was glad to see Paul's post, it sounds like he thinks a lot like I do. I'm very exited about the possibilities that bitcoin has for the future. I'm not interested in currency speculation. I'm more interested in the incredible amount of value that could be created in the efficiency of eliminating many of the barriers and middlemen involved in today's world of finance.

Also, I just received in the mail my first bitcoin purchase, a video game. The whole process went great.
