61  Other / Politics & Society / Re: The official "what about the roads?" thread on: December 26, 2013, 10:35:12 PM
I work in the middle east and I have seen small shop keepers arrange to have the little stretch of pavement outside their shop repaved. My employer (a private sector business) has recently arranged to rip up a speed bump from outside their premises and repave the road. Whilst they was at it, they also repaired the potholes along the entire road alongside their property and clear out the drains. There is a large shopping mall near my British address. They built their own access roads and car parking. Is it such a stretch to imagine that a multistory car park and access roads can be built by private industry but no other form of road can?
62  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Former CIA chief: Snowden should be “hanged by the neck until dead” on: December 26, 2013, 10:24:56 PM
Snowdon has given his liberty up in an altruistic way to increase the liberty of all of us. It is bigger than nationalities and loyalties. I don't care what this CIA chief said, if you undermine the CIA should you be killed? They are not Gods, they are not our masters.

"Better dead than red" was a common American slogan. The idea that is worth risking your life to be free from state control. This CIA chief is going against everything that America stands for.
63  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Banking, Bitcoins and the Ownership of your Body (Notes for Pathetic Slaves) on: December 26, 2013, 10:19:39 PM
This is backwards. If you have a $20 note the federal reserve owes you $20, not the other way around.

The real problem with fiat currency is the theft via inflation of your savings. This discourages investment which retards economic growth. Why save and invest if your return won't buy anything. Under such a scenario, a rational person will spend the money whilst it is still worth something.

Communism is where the people own the factories What is unamerican about that?

In communism a tiny elite own the factories, not the people. Under such a system ordinary people have nothing approaching what you might call ownership. I own my shoes because I have the right to use them, and the right to deny others the right to use them. I can sell them if I wanted to. A citizen of North Korea owns absolutely nothing.

But it's also not fair for someone to earn 20 million a year and the other guy 20 k.

It depends. Some hedge fund managers can earn something approaching 20 million USD but this is because they have found some people who have agreed to pay them this amount in return for their services. There is nothing unfair about this. Some earning 20K has found someone who is prepared to pay them 20K but can't find someone who is prepared to pay them more. It they could convince someone to pay them more, they would.

So you think the top banksters who have been bailed out recently are very productive? You are right that there can be such a measure but shouldn't it be in what they did for society?

Only a few banks where able to find someone to bail them out. Barclays found the Qatari sovereign wealth fund. Bank of America and Goldman Sachs found Warren Buffet. There may have been a few more. The rest of the bailouts where paid for by taxation which is extorted from individuals by the government under threat of violence, imprisonment and/or death. This is not capitalism, it is the antithesis of capitalism.

65  Economy / Securities / Re: Lab Rat Data Processing, LLC (LabRatMining) Official Announcement on: December 14, 2013, 11:47:25 PM
When difficult questions like this come up, labrat just disappears from the board until the topic of conversation has moved on. Then he reappears.
66  Economy / Securities / Re: Lab Rat Data Processing, LLC (LabRatMining) Official Announcement on: December 14, 2013, 11:29:15 PM
Another stab at what dividends should come out to theoretically. The website indicates there is NOT 25TH available, but rather about 20.95TH:

From labrat's website: "Hashrate: 5.45 TH/s + 15.5TH/s mining for additional hardware"

So...

5.45TH    @ 707,408,283 difficulty x 1.5 days = BTC3.8745/day x 1.5days = BTC5.81175
20.95TH  @ 707,408,283 difficulty x 1 day = BTC14.8939
20.95 TH @ 908,350,862 difficulty x 4.5 days = BTC11.5991/day x 4.5 days = BTC52.19595
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Total: BTC5.81175 + BTC14.8939 + BTC52.19595 =  BTC72.901652 mined (theoretical)

BTC72.901652 x 0.75 = BTC54.676239 to dividends

BTC54.676239/ 57350 bonds = BTC.00095337/bond <---- theoretical yield

Actual paid:
BTC0.00076112/bond

Difference (theory - actual):
BTC.00095337/bond - BTC0.00076112/bond = BTC0.00019225/bond

0.00019225/.00095337 = ~20.17% below theoretical.

This could be due to bad luck. It would be nice to be able to view the pool results.
Knowing how seriously labrat treats his shareholders, he will probably just shrug his shoulders and say "whatever".
67  Economy / Services / Mathematician/Statistician available for hire on: December 14, 2013, 11:24:30 PM
Dear all. I am a mathematician and statistician by training and have been involved in a number of quite heavy data analysis gigs in the past. I can work on any projects you have that have an extensive mathematical element as well processing gigabytes of data for whatever purpose you have, statistical analysis for example. I am educated to masters degree level.

I normally bid on online freelance sites but I am posting here to get a little exposure. Bitcoins accepted of course.

68  Economy / Economics / Re: Bitcoins UK future looks bleak on: November 24, 2013, 04:03:25 PM
Has anybody here in the UK tried opening an offshore bank account? Wondering how easy it is.

I have. You need proof of id (like a passport) and proof of address. You also need a reference from a professional that states you are of good character. It's not to difficult just frustratingly time consuming.

As the UK continues its trend and sinks further into socialist/kleptocratic poverty, expect this to get more difficult.
69  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Has Bitcoin changed your political position on: November 23, 2013, 06:29:25 PM
Bitcoin as such hasn't changed my position, but investing in general has affect my political outlook.

I now recognise the tyranny of central banking and fiat money. Tax is theft yada yada yada. I have been lead to bitcoin as a result of these. I have also emigrated from a socialist country to a tax haven so it has affected me in that way too.
70  Bitcoin / Press / Re: 2013-11-16 Kuwait Times on: November 16, 2013, 10:12:29 PM
In their defense, they quoted the Chinese exchange rate as around 1500 yuan per coin which is accurate I think.
71  Bitcoin / Press / 2013-11-16 Kuwait Times on: November 16, 2013, 09:44:54 PM
The good news: The Kuwait times, an English language paper over here featured a half page spread buried deep wtihin the business section about the growing popularity of bitcoin in China.

The bad news: The article quoted a price of $26 per bitcoin.

Arbitrage opportunity or ignorant journalism?
72  Economy / Securities / Re: [BitFunder] BTCINVEST - Low risk investment fund | Market cap: 2000+ BTC on: November 16, 2013, 03:45:16 PM
It wasn't a full liquidation, just the first installment. I have essentially been wiped out on this investment.
73  Economy / Securities / Re: [BitFunder] BTCINVEST - Low risk investment fund | Market cap: 2000+ BTC on: November 15, 2013, 06:25:57 PM
Anybody received a liquidation of their BTCINVEST shares at all?
Yes, I got the first liquidation payment paid into my coinlenders account and wired that to the wallet on my home computer shortly before the hack.

Since then, nada.
74  Economy / Securities / Re: [BitFunder] - ADDICTION - KNCMiner - Now hashing at 14+TH! on: November 15, 2013, 07:41:03 AM
Does someone of you experienced issues with BTC payment from WeEx? Yesterday I paid out 14 BTC and still processing :/ I want my Coins Sad
I've been waiting since the 6th of November. I only have around 0.2 BTC on withdrawal though, I feel for you with 14 BTC.
75  Economy / Securities / Re: Lab Rat Data Processing, LLC (LabRatMining) Official Announcement on: November 14, 2013, 06:14:27 PM
I made a free decision to invest. I face up to the consequences of my actions without running off crying to the police/government/regulator. In a free economy trust is very important. Lesson learned.
76  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Mike Hearn, Foundation's Law & Policy Chair, is pushing blacklists right now on: November 14, 2013, 05:29:26 PM
I vaguely remember a concept called "economic majority" by which the network can only undergo a huge upheavel like this is a majority of the users agree with it. Who gave the right to the bitcoin foundation to dictate these changes anyway?

I am passionate about the free market. It is my hope that in the event this change is implemented, a fork of the bitcoin project will occur and a huge majority of users will switch to it.
77  Economy / Securities / Re: Lab Rat Data Processing, LLC (LabRatMining) Official Announcement on: November 14, 2013, 05:23:35 PM
a bit harsh maybe. this kind of business is very difficult to manage i have some idea of what hes going through, just mangaged 3 terahashes of equipment recently had only a quarter running and it was hard, especially with a day job. besides this type of investment is a longer term thing really. hoping that the share price will go up. i believe LRM is doing the best he can, beside hes paid divs so far albeit a bit precarious recently, but hes not running off.
That would be the true if it wasn't for his blase and unapologetic attitude to these issues.
78  Economy / Securities / Re: Lab Rat Data Processing, LLC (LabRatMining) Official Announcement on: November 14, 2013, 04:56:53 PM
Labrat has shown himself to be unreliable. Bending the rules regarding investor benefits. I intend to hang on to my shares since I only made a small investment which has in turn dropped in value.

As far as I'm concerned, LabRat is a scammer. He isn't paying out the dividends being produced by the new hardware, and he also charged an arbitary transaction fee refered to in the previous post.

I wouldn't invest a single satoshi in anything else he does. I don't care how amazing the business is, or how profitable it is. If LabRat just helps himself to funds as and when he feels like it investors will not get any return.
79  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Bitcoin Businesses and Developers, Let's Get Started! on: November 12, 2013, 06:55:13 PM
I am interested in working on a remittance network that transfers fiat from client to client whilst using bitcoins in the back office to settle trades. OF course, you can't have a network with only one person in it. If is interested in joining, PM me.

On a related note, I am also interested in using bitcoins to help small businesses trade internationally.
80  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Let's brainstorm remittances on: November 12, 2013, 06:40:47 PM
That's a great idea, Koko, except that in a couple of years the person needing to transfer the money will be able to easily buy the bitcoins himself and send them home.  Bitcoin ATMs and the like will cut out the need for other people to get involved. The person on the receiving end will be able to convert them back to fiat just as easily, or, for that matter just spend them as BTC.
I don't buy that. You could say the same thing about fiat money, but money changers like Western Union still exist. Such a service would be especially powerfull in parts of the world where bitcoins are not widely known about or used. If you live in such a place and you have access to bitcoins then you could provide a very cost effective service. I would love to team up with a UK based for the purposes of running remittances on behalf filthy rich tax dodging petroleum engineering expats.
