61  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Server Power Supply Interface Board - for standalone miners and GPU rigs on: January 09, 2014, 08:23:32 AM
Currently gathering resources for a first batch of these boards. The bulk are already spoken for, but I should have a few dozen available in about two weeks. If folks are interested in making cases for these, let me know and we'll work something out for getting samples/small orders to you.

The current board is about the same width as the Z750P power supply, so they can be put side-by-side. The output pin header includes lines for 3.3V standby power, an integrated 5V 3A supply (powered off 12V), current-sense signal, external fan speed input, auto-on input, power-good and current-share outputs.

I'm also trying to make available 14AWG/24" PCIe 6-pin cables with spade terminals on one end for mounting on the screw terminals.

Working on dev for a controller board that will integrate power supply health and per-supply/total power output, as well as thermostatic fan speed control and maybe some other bells and whistles. Also working on boards for the DPS800 interface.

Hey awesome work sidehack! This will be really handy. I've been watching this thread with interest for awhile now, stumbled onto it by accident doing a google pic search. I picked up some bladecenter DPS-2500BB, plus the 2000 and 1800 watt variants, they work excellent for power GPU's but are simply too much work to wire up on a large scale without the help of a device like you will be producing.

Just curious are you talking to someone overseas to source the PCIe cables or here in the USA? Overseas certainly would be more cost effective likely, but if needed I could crank out cables to spec to supply members in the forum or in trade with you for some of your adapters, just an idea. I've been building mine about 2-2.5' long with 16 awg wire. I would advise against using speaker wire, course strand 11-20 conductor control wiring type works excellent.

Oh and I can also supply brand new 60mm fans for the power supplies, I've been using 3M double sided tape on one side of the power supply to attach them and works perfect, they are a bit on the loud side b/c they move a lot of air. Below I've posted the link to some pics of my ghetto wiring, the fans and one of my rigs.

Great thread, keep it going! I plan to play with this myself, definitely looks to be the way forward to cool these high power asics. But it will be nice to see how DeathandTaxes makes out first before blowing all my coins on Novec. Smiley

Here's a nice video thought I'd share from 3M. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ivVoANqFBuY
Anyone else building a test system yet?
The overclockers have been playing with Novec too! http://www.overclock.net/t/1209583/3m-novec-7000-group
63  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Mining Hardware Suggestions - Looking at 7850's for the first time instead of 79 on: December 23, 2013, 06:06:58 AM
That's probably a decent board though I don't have first hand experience with it. I have other Gigabyte boards, both intel and amd that work excellent for mining. It basically comes down to price and whats in stock. All of my boards are either Asrock, MSI or Gigabyte, all have been exceptional with few issues. For 5 slot AMD boards popular boards are 970 extreme 4 or the 970 gigabyte equivalent (there are also FM1/2 boards with 6 slot). Intel 6 slot MSI z77-gd45 or higher, gigabyte also makes several z77 6 slot boards.

750W with 5x 7850 (which btw can hash at over 400kh depending on the card) is OK but if you plan to expand get at least an 850W supply. for 270x I would recommend stepping up to a 1000W supply (can be found quite cheaply often with rebates) and make sure the powersupply has at least 8x pcie connectors, you will need up to 12 for 6x 270x. Quite frankly I think its better to go with the 270 rather than the X and save a few bucks and just OC them, they are exactly the same card with different clock speeds. Some of the 270 also only take/use one pcie power connector, this helps simplify installation.

Looking forward to try poolwarz out when they open my account!

Read the reply. R9 270x are the same card.

You are dead wrong on that, not even close. The 270x is identical to a 7870 and will only hash around 400kh...while the 280x is based off a 7970. There is no direct replacement for the 7950 in the R9 series. Go back to school and do you homework!

He should be thanking you for the free money, this is almost certainly the dubs, aka scammer extraordinaire...be careful.

Just looking for 7950's for now. I also broke my own rule and picked up some XFX 7950's. I hope I won't regret it too much.  Embarrassed

Maybe he will come back and make it all good?  Cheesy

Man, that sucks, I've also been running into a lot of scammers lately. Can't be too careful I guess.
72  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: [WTS] 14 Gigabyte Windforce 7950 on: September 26, 2013, 07:17:09 PM
Just because he did not complete a deal does not make him a "scammer" though.  I will update this thread if there is an issue.  At this point I see no reason why he will not send me the cards since he took a reversible form of payment.

Yes, that in itself does not make him a scammer, a quick search and you will see the consensus that he is though. He asks for payment upfront, or says some bs about half and half ie pay half upfront half on arrival. Consistent gibberish scammer language. Good luck.

Well sadly deals have fallen through, been getting lots of scammers at my door lately. If you have a card fs and are interested in a legitimate trade, please hit me up.
74  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: [WTS] 14 Gigabyte Windforce 7950 on: September 26, 2013, 06:00:55 AM
Deal is completed and I payed.  Will update once i receive the gear.

Please tell me you didn't pay this clown upfront did you? He is a known scammer...tried to scam me. He had some cards "fs" around about a month ago, and well suddenly he said they weren't for sale anymore, and he disappeared, until now.
75  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: [WTB] 7950/7970 graphics cards (5-20) payment in BTC on: September 23, 2013, 10:26:39 AM
Thanks guys, have a few possible pending deals but keep the offers coming.

As for XFX I've had poor experiences with them, their claimed lifetime warranty is a sham. They will look for any and every possible way to void that warranty when you send in your card so be wary. They tend to have poor / average coolers and just overall lower quality cards. This is especially noticeable when mining, they just don't seem to stand up to the abuse and heat, partially due to the fact they voltage lock a lot of their cards. As always YMMV.

79  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: 7 7970 on MSI Z77A-GD65 --- on: September 08, 2013, 05:35:31 AM
Yes, yes of course it can be done, you're getting confused with software driver limitation in windows vs your board only supporting 6 gpus. If you have gone through the process of jumping your slots like I mentioned previously and you don't have a card(s) showing up in windows it means your board is turning off that slot and its a limitation of that board, only other way to get more slots working on that board is to use the PCI to pcie bridge adapter which is around $20ish.

Only when you have 7 cards visible in windows can you then proceed to get them working by installing the two different drivers as described earlier. You said you got 6 cards working so I guess your're familiar with the install of the two separate drivers. But I'll explain again for the sake of others. We use two different driver versions to bypass (a registry limitation in the software) the 5 individual card limit in windows with driver 12.6 or earlier version, later versions only support up to 4 gpu's (for each driver). One could in theory run 4 cards off 13.1 and up to 4 cards off version 13.4 for example, but I have only used 12.6 and 13.1 together personally.

If one was comfortable with linux you could natively run 8 gpu's with one driver because it apparently doesn't have registry limitations like windows has. But it has nothing to do with the limitation of your hardware (motherboard) so you would still be limited to 6 working slots with that board.

For sure its possible, maybe not natively with this board without the use of pci to pcie bridge but If you dig you will find other boards that support 7 and even one supports 8 cards natively (MSI Big Bang). The truth is out there Smiley
