What if you were heavily invested, for example 40 knc neptunes and hired an expert to run the rig(essentially on-call like a doctor)?  What could you expect then?  I am considering something like this but my biggest concern is the 21e6 group and others like them, essentially secretive mines that can put even my proposed speed to shame if they ever realize their goals.

big electric bills.

Yes, something like 100,000W/hr. Par for the course IMO.  Selling a few btc would cover that.

What would you expect in terms of profit.

Also, with regard to a company like knc dumping all that hashing power on the netork and how it will affect profitability-meaning I am not the only one with neptunes.  KNC has said they will release 2400 of these 3,000,000MHz units.  Do you know if any calculators take this kind of additional hashing power into effect?

According to my calculations, accounting for all expenses, buying 40 neptunes would be profitable for approx 20 weeks, but i should be looking to replace with completely new faster units after 25 weeks(to be safe and allow for manufacturer delays).  Hmm, i am getting a better picture of big money mining now.  4-5,000/month electric bills, paying an expert to run the setup and completely replacing hardware approx every 25 weeks due to difficulty outpacing profitability-which means at the minimum another 500,000 investment to mirror what you had before but im wondering if 6 months later the speed of the mining tech has increased enough against difficulty to allow for good roi.  I like this, im gonna lock myself in the bunker and read til my eyes dont work.

65  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / What do YOU want Bitcoin to do for you in the coming years? on: January 09, 2014, 04:28:02 PM
I am an entrepreneur who sees in bitcoin a market that is in alignment with my philosophical beliefs.  I am currently working on a unique project for the bitcoin community and will be looking for support to fund it in the near future.  Before I dive into my current bitcoin project(with funding), I would like to ask the community what features and new markets they want created for Bitcoin.  If something gets my attention and after investigation appears more likely to succeed than my current project I will direct my attention to that.

What do YOU want Bitcoin to do for you in the coming years?  What features do you want implemented on top of the Blockchain?  Are there any hardware or software innovations that the market is currently not providing for you?  Is there something you want to be able to do that you cannot do with bitcoin?
66  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Mining Questions for a Newbie on: January 06, 2014, 10:06:02 PM
I am completely new to mining, so bear with me and I would appreciate everyones' help here.

I have three long term goals:

1.) Mine alt-coins which will increase in value over time

2.) Mine alt coins short term for exchanging into BTC.

3.) Make a profit after all expenses paid.

Questions:

1.) Is mining altcoins very bandwidth intensive?  Will I need to upgrade my bandwidth?

2.) Does mining altcoins primarily consist of two systems: first system is desktop pc to run software and receive coins, second system is for mining hardware to solve the next block?

3.) What kind of hardware knowledge do I need(soldering, etc)?  I was able to build PCs in high school from ordering parts on new egg, is this sufficient?

4.) What kind of technical software knowledge do I need?

5.) Is it better to run linux, windows, or some other alternative on an altcoin rig?

6.) Are there only two types of mining-gpu and cpu?

7.) What kind of security should I utilize on a mining rigs? virus protection? vpn? etc

8.) Can I mine more than one altcoin(example ltc and craftcoin) on a single rig at the same time?

9.) How will mining be affected when utilizing a vpn?

10.) I want to build a rig that allows me to take my profits and use them to buy more hardware to increase that rate of profit generation.  Are there stock layouts that allow for continual growth of hardware on a single system?

11.) What are some of the most important sites for selling and learning information about alt-coins-specifically which ones to mine for the intention of trading for btc?  For example, iIve heard of cryptsy and found coinchose.

12.) How often should I expect to be buying new hardware to keep up with the increasing difficulty scrypt based alt coins?

Thank You!
67  Economy / Goods / Re: BNIB FN SCAR 17 FDE + 8 FDE MAGS + AMMO on: December 10, 2013, 02:45:26 PM
Price drop 3.5 BTC for tool only, 4.5 BTC for all.
68  Economy / Goods / BNIB FN SCAR 17 FDE + 8 FDE MAGS + AMMO on: December 09, 2013, 03:55:19 PM
I have a brand new condition Scar 17 in flat dark earth.  It is recent production-it has the greenish tint indicative of the new models.  It includes a magpul fde angle forward grip and fde magazine.  Item must be shipped from my ffl to your ffl(conus), excluding ban states.  Do not ask if you are in one of these states.  Asking price is 4 BTC.  This is my favorite gun and it's hard to see it go but I am kicking myself for not buying BTC when it was $70 and this is my chance to get into coins.  Plus ammo is too expensive to be shooting all the time.  Someone else can get more enjoyment out of this than me.

I also have 8 fde magazines which I will sell with the tool for .01 each or 1 BTC for all.

I will also include 100 rounds of brass m80 ball ammo which will be shipped seperately.

I'm aware of the nature of bitcoin, being decentralized, how new blocks are created, the 21 million limit and divisibility, etc.

Relevant info About me:

-Ancap
-I have been aware of bitcoin since the price was in single dollars but failed to invest until now. =(
-I dont want to buy Bitcoin from my bank account if I can avoid it.
-Looking for anonymous ways to buy BTC.

I have some questions before i make my first procurements:

1. Can fincen kill it? egold was destroyed and paypal forced to conform.

2. Why do some exchanges have BTC for 500(Russian), others 800+(Gox)? Would it not be better for me to buy Russian?

3. Where should i get my first coins?

4. With regard to fees and anonymity, should i do one or two large purchases or many small ones?  Can i purchase large amounts of bitcoin anonymously?

5. Would it be better to get into mining as opposed to purchasing BTC if I have substantial money to invest in it?  How much capital does one need to see 1 or more BTC per month?

6. If bitcoin is so valuable, why are exchanges selling it for fiat?

7. I am a considering spreading my investment out among Bitcoin, Litecoin and other altcoins.  Would this be prudent considering the current-MAYBE inflated price of bitcoin?

8. How will bitcoin be exchanged(for goods and services) in the future when people are not spending in the present but hoarding(deflation)?

9. In other words, is the current value of bitcoin more an indirect function due to fed printing than actual value?

10. If currency being kept out of America in the oil market comes home(catastophic inflation), what would Americans buy BTC with?  How would Americans buy other currencies to purchase BTC with if their dollars are worthless?

Thank You ALL!
