61  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why 21 Million? Won't that defeat the purpose & STOP Universal Acceptance on: April 14, 2014, 04:06:30 PM
I made a similar thread about this, and I was wrong, Bitcoin can be divided up infinitely, making those 21totalmillionunits just a figurehead.

Thanks I was not aware of that.

So basically it is scalable

EVEN with LOST coins

What do you think?

I think you should stop making silly threads and spend more time reading.

You're a noob, we get it but atleast show your effort in learning. Being spoonfed is not gonna get you anywhere. You will however be mislead by hearsay.

Dont you think we would have had discussed these topics long time ago?

Noob? How old are you 12?  Do you live and operate in the real world or just online?  Are you stuck in the chair at the computer? do u know how life works?

Are you in the COOL clique for BTC? ooooo-- should I try to be your friend?

Get over yourself...seriously.

FOR AS LONG AS THERE IS BITCOIN - there will be new people coming in.

THIS FORUM IS FOR DISCUSSION -- stay OUT OF THE DISCUSSION if you already know everything and had every possible discussion.

I didn't ask if you had this discussion...why would I care if you discussed these things "a long time ago"?  I DIDN'T it is NEW FOR ME

so I WILL DISCUSS THEM!

And while your IQ may be so low, that you are easily mislead by hearsay, or your time on this earth so limited that you are easily taken advantage of..some of us have succeeded in life and are STILL GROWING

thanks for your time and have a good day.

There are 100,000,000 satoshi in every Bitcoin so there are 100000000*21000000 (2,100,000,000,000,000) satoshi to be mined.

And bitcoins can be divided even further.

ok so we will be dealing in satoshi rather than BTC

isn't that like pennies - or subdivisions of pennies?

right now people GIVE away satoshi - they have so little value right?

I am not sure if this helps or hurts the situation

hmmmm..... Huh
65  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: FAKE or STOLEN Bitcoins on: April 14, 2014, 03:52:32 PM
You cant do anything about receiving stolen coins, but they can't be faked as that's one of the benefits.

Be ready to face the consequences if you are ready to accept stolen BTCs. Especially this will be the case, if you accept dirty coins stolen out of SR 2.0 or the Sheep Marketplace.

Bryant - you are touching on my concern

As a business man, I deal with enough money to know that I may have IGNORANTLY accepted stolen money in small amounts.  That is understandable.

HOWEVER, I HAVE A DUTY to TAKE PRECAUTIONS against suspicious transactions and to purposefully DENY money I KNOW to be stolen.

HOW COULD KNOW if a BTC is stolen or not?
66  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / BTC is #1 - which crypto is #2-5? on: April 14, 2014, 03:50:27 PM
Based on VOLUME of trading and USD Value of COIN

BTC is clearly #1

based on same criteria who is:

#2
#3
#4
#5

(not YOUR PERSONAL FAVORITE or who has most POTENTIAL -- but who TODAY has the trade volume and $ equivalent)

Thanks!

I just learned about the 51% attack.

People say it can't happen because "everyone loves BTC"

= Who would do that?
= WHO would have that much money to waste just to kill BTC

Seems to me that $60-$100 Million offered @ $10 MILLION Each to 6-10 mine pools would do it...then no more concern about CRYPTO

and BTC is large enough that the media spin on it would count as an EXAMPLE to the masses that crypto doesn't work (perception is reality) and should be stayed away from?

What do you think?
68  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Anyone Making Money With Contracts? on: April 14, 2014, 03:40:20 PM
I put into about 350 dollars out of pocket and add more from my mined blocks. I bought these at about .0105500 per GH/s and there was a high of .0107000 I sold all and made another 6 dollars, which isn't much, but it didn't take me any time to do it and it all adds up. Now the prices are back down to 0.01051133 so I bought my shares back sent my profits to my wallet. I plan to put some into the upcoming fund.

I suggest if you do plan to invest, watch it for a few days before. Get a feel for the prices and the times that are best to buy and price that feels right for you. when it goes low, people get scared and sell in bulk, 100 at a time, those are the ones I go for. I can get all that I want if I'm fast enough before price jumps up and I wont have to wait for it to go down to get the remaining balance I wanted. There are a lot of people there who are impatient and want a fast payout. You will see the price that is just right and before you know it, its all the way up again. Don't let this deter you. There was a lot of reviews I read and the majority of them were negative. I decided that I wanted to do it because it was what I wanted and just because someone was bad with their investment shouldn't effect my thought. So I ask you to not put a lot into what I say, but do what you want, and what you feel is comfortable. It isn't for everyone, especially those who are not willing to invest the time and money into it. It takes patience to come out on top.

sounds like you are doing the equivalent of day trading.

Would you mind spending a few moments on SKYPE with me? I have a few private questions to ask you.

Thanks

69  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Why 21 Million? Won't that defeat the purpose & STOP Universal Acceptance on: April 14, 2014, 03:36:00 PM
1) Why only 21 Million?

OK to stop debt and to stop hyper inflation...the problem is

There are so MANY transactions that go on during a day on this planet, how can so few units accommodate so many transactions.

2) And What happens to all the "lost" bitcoins.

I count LOST bitcoins as ones that a person had but:

- they "lost" the BTC (hard drive crash, paper wallet lost/illegible)
-the person DIES
- the person is on a long vacation or jail
- the FORGETS the wallet or key (maybe goes off to university)

These kinds of things happen with traditional currency...so ultimately the POOL of available bitcoin (even after all 21 million are mined) will shrink and shrink and shrink...while demand is growing...

Isn't this counter productive?

3) Why not a LARGER number....like 500 Million?

I am just asking how this came about and if there was any forward thinking involved.

IF i started a country on an Island, I would understand our assets could grow (to back currency) so I would ultimately make more currency (without causing inflation/debt)

4) what is to stop a FIAT based off of BITCOIN, once only a few hoarders have all the available coins?

Is it possible for someone to give me fake or stolen bitcoins?

How long do I wait to make sure a BTC is "legit" and truly mine?

There is no "fake" bitcoin. As long as your transaction gets a few confirmations, no one including the sender can reverse the transaction (unless in 51% attack).

sorry for my ignorance - but what is 51% attack?

72  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Anyone Making Money With Contracts? on: April 14, 2014, 04:17:12 AM
I havent cashed out yet, but I have 75 GHs that I use for mining and another 25 GHs that I use primarily for trading. If I were to sell at current price everything I have I will leave with about 50 dollar profit and I have been there for about 3 weeks
Posted from Bitcointa.lk - #xhrXpMH9ZHJzeZSD

how much have you spent total over 3 weeks to make the $50?
73  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Anyone Making Money With Contracts? on: April 14, 2014, 03:00:07 AM
well i am trying on cex.io, i have about 130 ghs FHM (meaning they will become instant *cloud* GHS miners on May 26 2014. They are very cheap right now. it looks like i should *?* reap investment of 3x on 5/26/2014, however, i dont understand the difficulty and hash rates and all that shit, so who knows. what i look at now, shows i should get my investment back, considering most went in when btc was over 600.  ... Bleh.. we'll see.  i should just join /r/buttcoin unless things get better... i hate being late to the party! Sad

ps  i will edit this come June and let you know. i hope/pray btc goes back to moon in the interim, or at least what it was. fucking china. wtf.. lol.. Cheesy

So you gave them X amount of dollars today.

Then on 5.26 you will get 3X what you paid?

74  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Anyone Making Money With Contracts? on: April 14, 2014, 01:19:57 AM
It seems to me that there are a lot of companies saying they have x number of TH/s on their sparkly ASICS farms. They do the mining (you don't do any) with their machines and power.

And all you have to do is buy a "contract" for a year or two to help cover the costs.  They will pay out daily or weekly a portion of the bitcoins they mine.

Sounds good in theory.

Here is my question.

ARE PEOPLE MAKING PROFIT? (besides the owners)

To get a few satoshi a day or week, can take a long time to get to the break even point.

IS THERE A such a MINING sharing company that you actually will MAKE MORE than you put in?

Which company is actually doing this (restrictively) so ALL members actually make a PROFIT?

or does that not even matter to the people spending money?
75  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: FAKE or STOLEN Bitcoins on: April 13, 2014, 07:13:28 PM
You can't assign a private key to a non-existent or undiscovered coin...

so i can't (purposefully/randomly) determine the "next key" or stumble on an undiscovered coin?  or rather "soon-to-be" discovered coin?

76  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: FAKE or STOLEN Bitcoins on: April 13, 2014, 06:37:26 AM
so many virtual wallets etc.

i am just thinking purloined or counterfeited.

It just math right?  What stops the evil genius 8 year old from hacking his xbox1 and pc to figure a way to "steal" coins.

Is it only improbable or is it truly impossible?

Traveling to all over the world by only bringing Bitcoin instead of keep exchanging our currency. Especially in the tourist spot.

It is really frustrating to keep counting the exchange rate to our own currency when we want to buy something to make sure not get cheated

I understand the hassle of exchanging and fees...but how would BTC help you to be sure you are not being cheated?

Strawberries in Plant City Florida during the beginning of the year are a penny for a dozen....yet in Montana during the same time, those strawberries are at a premium.

curry in India vs curry in Alaska

having a universal currency won't help you valuate goods and services IMO
79  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Is MINING actually WORTH it now? on: April 13, 2014, 05:06:23 AM
I have the ability to get free (well flat/fixed rate) electricity.

But even without that, it does seem mining gives some the "FEELING" of getting something for nothing.  Which is the draw. But the initial investment thus far seems high.

I just have not been able to see the MATH that makes it actually work (maybe 2 years ago it was different)

80  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Is MINING actually WORTH it now? on: April 13, 2014, 12:09:15 AM
Thanks to everyone who gave a helpful response.

I have zero intention of doing it as a hobby or for fun.  If I invest money, it is to MAKE money.  I would want it first off to break even.  If it takes a year to break even, then it is not worth it, as there are many other things I can do to make money and get a return faster.

Worth it = making more than I have invested.

Short amout of time...weeks? months?  NOT years.

Are BTC still awarded every 10 mins?
