Buying a house was a good decision. No matter if bitcoin continues to up and up who knows where, a house is essential and I would have done the same.

Right now the bitcoin chart looks like a "mother of all bubbles". It needs a correction.
62  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: It's freaking 2017 - Do you own 1 BTC? on: May 09, 2017, 11:29:59 AM
Even if it takes time to earn that amount its worth to spend time and make efforts in collecting them in best possible  ways as in future the price of bitcoins will be very much high so its good to have maximum amount of bitcoins in our wallet.

At this rates ( a.k.a. ___/  ) it is getting crazy to buy/earn 1BTC...

But what if we get $3K by end of year as some predict ...Is it expensive to buy now...

Of course, bitcoin will grow, but it would be nice if the prices for everything else did not grow, because the profit will not turn out to be very big.
[/quote]

Are you saying price of other things grows like bitcoin in only 12 months from $460 to $1600 Huh

My expectation remains that Bitcoin will hit $3k this year, barring a contentious hard fork or a systemic problem (fiat, tether, etc).

Call it what you want, investment or non-investment, but the fact is lot's of people increasing their capital through bitcoin, whether they bough at very low and then sold later, or simply trading. Not my case, I'm mainly holding, with an occasional self-gratification snippet out of my gains.

Let's see if we still get to 2000-3000 by end this year....

Yes...   Although you could really screw up by trading, if you don't realize that your goal should be mostly to keep a large percent of your holdings in bitcoin - so in that regard, you could be in some other crap coin at the time that bitcoin pumps.

Further, you gotta have enough insight to take a sufficient enough stake, whether that would have been 10 bitcoins or 100 bitcoins or some other decent quantity of bitcoins.

Sure, depending on the cost of living of your location, you may be able to even sufficiently be in the positive with 1 or 2 bitcoins - but the fewer that you have, the more hesitant you should be in cashing out or attempting to live off of them until you feel that you have a sufficient enough remaining stash to continue to profit from likely ongoing upwards price appreciation... in other words spend your fiat before you spend your bitcoin and continue to aim for bitcoin accumulation.

I am no trader, that's for suckers...
No shitcoins either, had enough with Cryptsty back in the day...
No, sorry I'm club 21 >
67  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: small fee makes transactions faster on: April 12, 2017, 10:26:45 AM
used 0.0001 fee a couple of days ago and it took quite a while, but it went through eventually, confirmed the next day (don't know exactly how many hours, but I had made payment the day before morning, and was confirmed the next morning). Very cheap in my opinion.
But as from now one will use mainly 0.001, don't mind paying up to a buck per transaction if it goes faster, although still haven't measured the speed compared to the smaller fee

69  Bitcoin / Armory / Re: Fixing the "transaction timed out"/"transaction broadcast failed" issue on: April 11, 2017, 02:16:22 PM
thanks again. installed earlier version of core like you say and finally have been able to make payments (broadcast). Cheers 1
70  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Core 0.14.0 Released on: April 10, 2017, 01:11:20 PM
How to uninstall bitcoin core without losing the data, in Lubntu Linux. I installed by downlowding the tar file, not an installer, and now want to uninstall so I can then insatall the earlier 0.13 version as the current one doesn't let me make payments (broadcast) using armory  ?

I read that I just need to overwrite the binaries but it's such a a pain to overwrite or remove/add anything from the usr protected folders in linux...
You uninstall it by deleting the files that you extracted from the original tar file. Or you can extract the 0.13.2 tar file the exact same way you did with the 0.14.0 tar file and just overwrite anything that conflicts. Either way, you won't lose any data or any of the blockchain since that is stored elsewhere.

Thanks, just wondering if the linux command like sudo apt-get remove bitcoind would only remove the executable files not the data. But I think I will just have to go through the process that you mention, which is a pain as have to use special commands to allow me to overwrite and delte things.

For the benefit of others looking for how to UNINSTALL or INSTALL an OLDER or NEWER VERSION of bitcoin core. this is what I've done in Lubuntu Linux:

I wanted to downgrade from bitcoin core 0.14 to version 0.13.2

1) After dowloading the tar file, uncompressing it and verifying, I have a resulting folder:
bitcoin-0.13.2
This folder contains three folders: bin, include and lib.

2) Removed the previous folder from previous version bitcoin-0.14.0 from where I currently had it:
/usr

To do so I need to have full privileges:
Copy stuff to usr/bin and other places that don't give permission
gksudo pcmanfm   <---opens file manager with super permission

Also deleted the bitcoin-qt from where it was currently installed (using the gkksudo pcmanfm command of course):
/bin

3) Now version 0.14 is removed.
To put in it's place 0.13.2 version, and using again the gkksudo pcmanfm command that gives privileges to write to /usr and /bin dolders:
- Copy the bitcoin-0.13.2 folder to /usr
- Take the bitcoin-qt file that is inside bitcoin-0.13.2/bin and copy (not move) to /bin

Note: Before replacing the newer for the older version I had set path for the terminal command bitcoin-qt to use bitcoin-qt inside that /bin folder. In your case you might have to set it yourself, but setting a path is up to you to look up.

I'd just live the life ! No yatchs cars or BS, just good food, good computers, good games, etc... with the least possible overhead and BS
73  Bitcoin / Armory / Re: Fixing the "transaction timed out"/"transaction broadcast failed" issue on: April 09, 2017, 12:45:04 PM
Installing overwrites the binaries, you can just run the 0.94 installer as is.

Thanks all. The thread mentiones 0.13.2 version, but would using 0.94 instead of 0.95 allow me to make payments (broadcast), which is what I'm unable to do with my current version 0.95?
I'm using Lubuntu so I wouldn't be using an installer. Guess I just delete manually the current 0.95 binaries (not databases etc.) and put in instead the 0.94....?

EDIT: Ok, sorry I was getting mixed up with bitcoin core and armory. Will downgrade bitcoin core and see if I can then broadcast with Armory.
74  Bitcoin / Armory / Re: Armory 0.95.1 is out on: April 08, 2017, 02:58:41 PM
1) The first few errors are just Qt4 warnings, these are all false positives

2) This:

Quote
(WARNING) ArmoryUtils.py:2416 - ***Checksum error!  Attempting to fix...
(WARNING) ArmoryUtils.py:2437 - ***Checksum error!  Incorrect byte in checksum!

This means a checksum failed and could not be fixed. I'm not sure what you did to get there. If this is the results of your wallets loading, you should run them through the recovery tool. If you are getting this from restoring a wallet, make sure the wallet ID matches what's on the paper backup.

Thanks. The recovery tool ? Is this something in the advanced user ?
75  Bitcoin / Armory / Re: Fixing the "transaction timed out"/"transaction broadcast failed" issue on: April 08, 2017, 02:13:49 PM
Thanks, just happened to me yesterday, windows 10 home original version and Lubuntu.
So, to downgrade, do I need to first UNINSTALL 0.95 ? Or do I just download what you say and install and it's ready to work ?
76  Bitcoin / Armory / Re: Armory 0.95.1 is out on: April 06, 2017, 07:31:25 PM
2.7

Thanks, that's the one I've got.

Now restoring and checking online a wallet I get:

/usr/lib/armory/armoryengine/Transaction.py:2760: SyntaxWarning: import * only allowed at module level
  def PyCreateAndSignTx_old(srcTxOuts, dstAddrsVals):

(python2:2713): Gtk-CRITICAL **: IA__gtk_progress_configure: assertion 'value >= min && value <= max' failed

Also in another terminal screen:

/usr/lib/armory/armoryengine/Transaction.py:2760: SyntaxWarning: import * only allowed at module level
  def PyCreateAndSignTx_old(srcTxOuts, dstAddrsVals):

(python2:2270): Gtk-WARNING **: Theme directory  imported-Humanity/192 of theme Lubuntu has no size field

BDM is ready!
(WARNING) ArmoryUtils.py:2416 - ***Checksum error!  Attempting to fix...
(WARNING) ArmoryUtils.py:2437 - ***Checksum error!  Incorrect byte in checksum!
**

Any of these sound familiar, do I need to worry ?
Right now armory working still, scanning transaction history.

Thanks

Thanks, couldn't find info at your web page.

Getting the Python Syntax Warning, running 0.95.1 on Lubuntu.

What version of Python is the one I should install, as I think some versions are not supported ?

Thanks

VERIFYING
armory_0.95.1_amd64.deb ?

Now that I got Lubuntu installed in another 64 system, I downloaded the package from https://btcarmory.com/0.95.1-release/

Don't see any information on verification at the site.
What release signature ?
What release signing key?

EDIT: Ok sorry, just saw the information at the site. Will try and report here my process of verification.

STEPS TO VERIFY I've done:

1) Import Armory Signing Key:
gpg --recv-keys --keyserver keyserver.ubuntu.com 4922589A
gpg: key 8C5211764922589A: public key "goatpig (Offline signing key for Armory releases) <moothecowlord@gmail.com>" imported
gpg: no ultimately trusted keys found
gpg: Total number processed: 1
gpg:               imported: 1

2) Download release signing key from: https://btcarmory.com/0.95.1-release/

3) shasum -c sha256sum.asc armory_0.95.1_amd64.deb

armory_0.95.1_amd64.deb: OK    <-- OK
shasum: armory_0.95.1_osx.tar.gz:
armory_0.95.1_osx.tar.gz: FAILED open or read
shasum: armory_0.95.1_win64.exe: No such file or directory
armory_0.95.1_win64.exe: FAILED open or read
shasum: WARNING: 20 lines are improperly formatted
shasum: WARNING: 2 listed files could not be read
shasum: armory_0.95.1_amd64.deb: no properly formatted SHA1 checksum lines found

3.1)
Compare the hash of the sha256sum.asc file with the one in the application package:
a) Inside the sha256sum.asc file:
4d692a60afc114f4ccb230d11006c69af12ee37a0b7964b03caff90b6619b75c  armory_0.95.1_amd64.deb

b) sha256sum armory_0.95.1_amd64.deb
4d692a60afc114f4ccb230d11006c69af12ee37a0b7964b03caff90b6619b75c  armory_0.95.1_amd64.deb   <---inside the application package

They coincide so <-- OK

4)  gpg --verify
