2 things have to happen 1) a run that overcomes our historical bad luck (so that "feels good" happens) 2) people need to learn math Time and again, I see people that need "instant gratification" and their "greed" for that blinds them to the mathematical fact that their actions run counter to their greed goals. Beyond that, I don't see why this pool didn't massively grow more at any given point in the last year. I don't think some people will ever do the math. I hear about people mining in places where the electricity costs are .20/kwh and they are running something like an S7 and they wonder why they aren't making any money let alone getting any kind of a payout at their pool of choice. Once it is pointed out to them they shouldn't be mining with an S7 where electricity rates are high, they usually reply that mining is just a hobby to them. Go figure. |

Just got this email from Hashflare:

With as much respect as I can muster: cloudmining is for suckers that can't math.  You are right to a point. But my point is the global hashrate will go down when the profitability sinks like it has been. The best place to be is ckpool which saves you energy costs if you have T1 miners and has a 0% fee with transaction fees going to the miners. As more and more miners realize their profits are going down at other pools, they hopefully will find a port in the storm at ckpool. By the way, I finished a 1 year ethereum contract with Hashflare and made a good profit, but I never liked their high priced contracts for bitcoin. Wouldn't have touched them with a 10 foot pole. |

Just got this email from Hashflare:

We have made every possible effort in order to resolve the problem that has arisen – for instance, we have considered a variety of technical solutions, which would have allowed us to lower expenses related to maintenance and electricity. For over a month our users encountered a situation when the payouts were lower than the maintenance fees, resulting in zero accruals to the balance. As of 18.07.2018, the payouts were lower than maintenance for 28 consecutive days.
BTC mining continues being unprofitable, in light of which we would like to inform you that on 18.07.2018 we were forced to start disabling SHA hardware and today, on 20.07.2018, stop the mining service of active SHA-256 contracts in accordance with clause 5.5 of our Terms of Service, which are required to be accepted when creating a purchase and are the basis of concluding the contract.
We expect that the cryptocurrency market situation will stabilize in the nearest future and we will be able to offer our users new advantageous solutions.
We will continue to inform you about any changes. Stay tuned for updates!

Estimated 12% increase next difficulty jump. Unreal, I liked it going down 4% last week.
I've been wondering about this. It seems the bitcoin asics are at their limit for improvement. Even the latest 10nm chips are barely better than the 16nm S9s. I've read that 7nm is being developed but that it won't help asics because the heat involved in mining decreases the effectiveness of thinner wafers. Unless the price of bitcoin jumps up dramatically before the next difficulty jump, it will not be profitable even with the lowest power rates available. However, if this happens the global hashrate will decrease quickly thus decreasing the difficulty. Hopefully the profitability will stabilize again to about where it is now. Next year's mantra will be "decrease power consumption". Look at the s9i that bitmain recently put out. The design was solely to save energy and does not increase hashrate. |

Heh, and it seems like it worked too well; here we went from bone dry to mud in the last 24 hrs with 6 days rain forecast in the next 10. Now, if only we could have that kind of luck reversal for block finds.  Found this mug on etsy  |

So dropped, to -2 as well. but prior to that temps went down to 39/87 now 39/84. No going to try and limp to our next block.
Tomorrow is supposed to be hotter than today, in the Portland area. I have 72TH running in the garage and nothing overheating yet this week. Avalons clocked down to -2 also. I'm running 2 exhaust fans behind the miner rack and the garage door is cracked open about 12 inches for intake air. I like to run the exhaust fans as close to the miners as possible.  |

Would love to add a s9i but they auto-tune from what I've read, little user control My V9 is most likely a rebranded S7 and more expensive to run However, I've under clocked it down to 300mhz and it runs 8 ~ 10 C cooler in the garage (2T/hs) Crazy but I'm going with a second one to add to the cKpool Prefer to be in control even with the higher operating cost  My S9is (14T Models) do not allow any frequency or fan speed manual adjustments. The miner configuration page only shows pool configuration options. These miners are latest July 1 batch. Could be the earlier batches allowed more manual configurations. They're great miners, however, and the 14T models save more energy than the other S9i models according to YT reviews. I don't blame bitmain for taking away the manual configurations. So many people are overclocking their miners and then probably try to get warranty work on them after they set their miner back to default, thus deleting all logs that show they were overclocked. I like what Halong does with their T1 configuration options: "Efficiency, Balanced, Factory, and Performance." No chance to void the warranty but some control over the miner. |

This may be dating me, but I grew up with swamp coolers in the imperial valley of California. 120F in the shade and all anyone had back then was swamp coolers. They didn't use much energy and they cooled it off enough so we could survive the desert heat. I think you have a great idea there. |

It may be a little cooler tonight but overall going to be warm through next weekend! Keep your miners cool, should be easier to cool the air at night, just have to worry from about 11am to 7pm.
Yea, I'll be home to monitor temps the next couple days. 90F doesn't worry me but Sunday is supposed to be hot! Got to keep hashing. I think I powered down about 9am back up at 11pm but then I worked really late. Got me pushing some easy orders through lately, even though I work best in the evening with a beer though. Business seems good, we might bonus and then I'll update exhaust for sure. I have some very tall douglas firs shading my house from across the street. My hottest time of the day, for mining, is between 330PM and 530PM. This is when the sun shines directly on my garage door. I almost had to shut down the avalon miners yesterday. By the way, what nut case ever thought it was a good idea to design a bitcoin miner with one fan? |

Welp, I'm screwed then. No worries, mate... there's a big difference between `noise' and things that are `sound'... so, you'll be alright... I try to walk the line of annoyingly enjoyable. I'm just now ramping up again. It was over 95F in Portland today and not working from home means garage closed, so I powered down till now. Looks like we're still hunting for a block though. LOL I'm in PDX too. The heat in the garage has been high, but my new S9is have been running at 80c tops during the day. I have 2 exhaust fans in the wall behind the miners. Hopefully, today it will be cooler for my sake, the miners don't mind the heat apparently. |

Serious question, have read the thread:
Looking to move 30+ PH/s of hashing currently pointed towards SlushPool (2/3 of it is ASICBoost T1s).
Other than variable output in a smaller pool, is this a worthwhile move? Less than excited for the 5N ramp up time, but understand and looking for a longterm home.
0% fee and now that the pool is over 100PH it was an easy decision for me. |
