So there will be like 2 coins (ardor & nxt 2.0) on 1 blockchain? Also I thought there will be the same supply of ardors as it was with nxt 1.0, but what about nxt 2.0 coins ?

There will be one "coin" called Ardor which powers the Main Chain of Ardor which is where the consensus is done.

There will be many child chains which will record their transactions and will use their own "coins".

One supply: yes, Ardor will have the same supply as Nxt 1.0.
A child chain *can* have a different supply, but the first child chain (which you call Nxt 2 in this post) will have the same supply as Nxt 1.0.

- So how is Ardor different from Ethereum Smart Contracts?
- Wouldn't this make NXT and easy pump as all the speculators would want nxt to hop onto the new Ardor platform when it comes out?

Is ardor the only blockchain that can spawn other blockchains within itself? How is that different from every other blockchain that uses a color coin technology?

- Nxt (and Ardor) have decided very specifically not to go the "Smart Contract" route in 2014.
The main reason that was given was that Smart Contracts are open to all kinds of problems, from malicious code to badly written contracts.
I think the last weeks proved that these worries were justified.

Wat Nxt and Ardor do is implement a collection of "Smart Transactions" that are hardcoded into the system and are executed on the system Nodes.
These transactions have been tested and for a lot of use cases are more than enough, especially because they are modular and can be combined into more complex use cases.

So there is much flexibility in what can be done, but it's not completely open like Ethereum.

As far as we know, Ardor is the only blockchain that is able to do this.

You might have overlooked the fact that Burst has already done this i.e. Smarts Contracts via Automated Transactions https://ciyam.org/at/

Just because Ethereum or the DAO has a problem executing them doesn't mean its not viable and can't be done. Burst has proven that it can thus far.

I didn't overlook it, as AT was exactly what I was referring to.
The core devs decided not to implement it and it was after integrated into Burst.

I am not bashing Smart Contracts, just explaining that Ardor and Nxt chose to go another route, with a reason.

For those wishing to test, here is experimental release 1.9.1e.
It fixed a UI bug in 1.9.0e.

https://nxtforum.org/nrs-releases/nrs-v1-9-1e/

We're very happy to get such a positive response to Ardor and we trust we'll deliver a good platform.

If you are or have a business and would like more information about Ardor and the possibilities of Child Chains, please send me a PM Smiley

at the moment i am using NRS Version: 1.8.3 for OS X. When will there be a 1.9-version for OS X available?

At the moment, the 1.9 is still in testing stage: https://nxtforum.org/nrs-releases/nrs-v1-9-1e/
The full mainnet version will be out soon and will be released for Linux, Windows and Mac.
Just hold tight Smiley

Not sure if its a great branding thought, Ardor means sting in spanish. And usually has a bad cognotation, like if somone has a string on an issue, he is mad for it and wants revenge.
Or if someone suffers from a fall and scratch its leg and you apply alcohol to the wound it will create a sharp sting feeling.

Multilingual branding is tricky indeed. I can only say it isn't meant with this connotation in mind. Our own main connotation was for passion.

Bas I beg you, please go to a photographer for the next photo in an article... :-)

I have several, but they don't use them  Cry

I'll make a package and start adding them to the Press Releases. :p

Edit: Articles added to OP.

this is just a money-grab, ardor doesn't go online for more than 365 days, why do you need to do this now? This should be done in the few months in advance instead.

Snapshotting starts in July, so the announcement needs to be done early.

July, thats next month. Why so soon? If the project doesn't launch for a year then shouldn't you guys be doing a snapshot a few weeks before launch? That way it gives everyone a chance to stock up on some Next? Doing it that quickly will just pump the price of next. My guess is the insiders need some cash and what better way then to pump the price of their pre-mined tokens.. scam.

Yes, it does pump the price of Nxt. Is there anything wrong with that?
It's a simple supply and demand issue. Anyone can see how long the roadmap is, and plan accordingly. It's in the OP, should you have missed it.

There is a three month period where people can or cannot accumulate to get Ardor tokens, and then another period where they can trade them as they wish.

We specifically do not go for the ICO model, as that would most definitely be a money grab, and also not do justice to the people who have bought and held Nxt for over 2,5 years.

On the cash needed: throughout the discussions about this release, we've always been very open that funding is needed for a sustainable system. Instead of an ICO, which has considerable drawbacks as a method, this is considered to be a method of raising such funds by actually raising the price of the token, which benefits everyone who holds Nxt, not just the people developing it.

can you tell us something about aliases? are they somehow in the ardor? i have a good number of them but i don't know what to do with them  Grin

Quote
Existing 1.0 Nxt Aliases will be ported to the FNX Child Chain. Just like with MS Currency names and codes, alias names will be unique within their Child Chain only. Globally, aliases will be appended with a Child Chain suffix, to signify which chain they belong to. By default, alias name not appended with a Child Chain suffix will be assumed to belong to the FNX Child Chain.

Thank you for that link. I have edited it into the OP. Smiley

We are talking to exchanges about the Ardor release.
To be absolutely sure, always keep your coins (any coins really) in your own wallet.
We'll give you updates about this specific issue once we have talked this through with all the exchanges that carry Nxt Smiley

Is there a minimum amount of nxt a wallet must hold before it gets get Ardor tokens for the new project? Do wallets with 0.1 nxt get Ardor tokens or do they need to hold more nxt for that?

I read it's a 1:1 swap, but surely if there's only dust in a wallet that's less than the fee needed to send coins then that wallet won't get any Ardor tokens.

6. For the rest: yes, a 1:1 swap and you are in.

I need to correct my use of the word "swap". Late night and all that.

It's NOT a swap: you get ARDR *and* keep your Nxt.  Smiley
73  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][ARDR] Ardor, or Nxt 2.0, a Scalable Child Chain Platform on: June 20, 2016, 06:24:31 PM
Where can we need to submit "snap shot"?

deves will take it

The devs are not involved anymore in any of this, it's the software that takes care of it.
To quote Jean-Luc, the lead developer:

Quote
The number of ARDR asset shares starts at 1,000,000,000. At the snapshot end, after ARDR has been distributed to all accounts based on their average balances during the snapshot, whatever is left in the asset issuer account is deleted automatically. Currently 1,000,000 is expected to be left and deleted, if anyone burns more, this number will change.

You can observe this process on testnet, where the snapshot will end in 4 days. Click on the "Ardor Distribution Status" button in 1.9.1e to check current and expected ARDR token balances. Current is what you are guaranteed to get, expected is the total you will get assuming you maintain the same NXT balance in your account till snapshot end.

The asset issuer account is intentionally locked by setting account control with Genesis only on the whitelist, this way no more transactions can be issued out of this account. So there is no risk that someone can abuse and transfer ARDR assets out of it manually. And if anyone doubts the calculations, during or after the snapshot, set nxt.logFxtBalance to the account number you want to track and do a rescan, snapshot balances at each height for this particular account will be logged as it goes.

[random thought] If people are starting to look at fundamentals due to the eth/dao hack, nxt/ardor might have a strong case.

I have bought 2 btc worth of NXT recently as this is all I can spare at the moment but if the price of NXT holds or drops before the snapshot period starts, I will be looking to get some more.

You have time, even during the snapshot period Smiley

Can you perhaps be so kind to answer this:

Can we get some additional information for people who are not much in NXT but are interested in Ardor? Same number of coins as NXT? No development fund, no premines, no bounties? Just 1/1 swap for NXT holders based on the snapshot average?

Ok, never mind. So this is what I understood. Buying NXT now and holding it through the snapshot period gives us NXT 2.0 main net tokens, which will later give us the same amount of main net coins on the new chain. Holding NXT until the genesis block of 2.0 is created ensures that we also get the uquivalent of 50% of the transaction tokens for the first child chain. At the end of the day we also get to keep our NXT 1.9 if we want to.

All in all buying NXT now gives us a share in a total of 3 projects (NXT 1.9, NXT 2.0, First Child Chain). Somebody please correct me if I am wrong.

1. Same number of coins as the current amount of Nxt.
2. The dev and bizdev team are not holding back any Ardor, which is the consensus coin. They *will* keep back 50% of tokens on the first child chain, if no other funding is found.
3. Funding is actively being chased for many months now and we are in talks with parties. We're also chasing innovation money.
4. Premine doesn't make sense from a PoS point of view, but no, no coins kept back.
5. Bounties may become available, as we do have community funds and nxt foundation funds which could be used for such. Will keep you updated on this.
6. For the rest: yes, a 1:1 swap and you are in.

Extra: you don't need to hold Nxt until the Ardor Genesis block. After the 3 month snapshot, you will receive your Ardor tokens on the Nxt Asset Exchange which then can be traded if you wish. THOSE will be converted to Ardor on the new blockchain in the Genesis block. So there is at least a window to trade of half a year.

Why is this getting such low attention here? It's a great opportunity to get into a new project and the team is top notch.

If you have Twitter, or are on any trollbox at a Nxt exchange, spread the word. Smiley

Does the value of Assets in an account count toward the snapshot or just the amount of free Nxt in the account balance?

No, value in assets does not count, only balance of NXT in account.

What is about the supernet Asset. A lot of users thought that the Supernet Asset was build to support the newest Ideas of NXT.
Now, the biggest and newest Idea is presented and Supernet wouldn't be mentioned. Or did i miss something?

Supernet has it's own roadmap.

Supernet has mostly cut its direct ties to Nxt and is not dependent on Nxt.

They are their own project and make their own decisions.

1.9.0e released!

https://nxtforum.org/nrs-releases/nrs-v1-9-0e/

Key points from the changelog:

Quote
This is an experimental release. It is a required update for all testnet nodes,
optional for main net.

This release enables taking multiple snapshots of accounts NXT balances, every
60 blocks, for a period of 90 days, and distributing an ARDR token based on the
average of those balances, at the end of the snapshot, to be used for the Ardor
consensus chain token distribution in Nxt 2.0.

On testnet, the snapshot will start at block 649400 and end at block 779000
(June 24).
On mainnet, the snapshot will start at block 870400 (expected July 14) and end
at block 1000000 (Oct 12).

Quote
To get your ARDR tokens, it is essential that you keep your NXT balance in your
own account.
There is no need to run a node or forge. It is the confirmed NXT
balance that is used for the snapshot, not the unconfirmed (available) balance,
so having some NXT locked in open AE bid orders, shufflings, etc, will not
affect your ARDR distribution. For balances on exchange accounts, it will be up
to each exchange to handle the re-distribution of the ARDR tokens that will get
automatically sent to the exchange account at snapshot end.

On the quote above: the Nxt Foundation will be in contact with exchanges to help out with this process. Will keep you updated.
