Well it seems to be working OK again.  But still wondering why it happens.

I'm using Microsoft Security essentials as my anti-virus software.  Windows 7 pro.  I downloaded the Java from your link on the site when I set up to mine a little over a week ago, so it should be up to date.  I've had this happen on all 3 computers I'm using to mine.  2 are windows 7 one is windows 8.1.  Absolutely love your service by the way.  Was super easy to set up and get mining, really wish I had found it 3 years ago.  This problem is intermittent and really just a minor irritation so far, it's not as if I'm mining fast enough to have it significantly affect my income or anything.  Tongue  Thanks so much for your help.

Bitcoin -- cash for the 21st century!

Looking for donations for a poor disabled guy to get a mining rig.  Long sad story that boils down to Cluster headaches- think a day long migraine packed into a half hour to 2 hours and repeat up to 10 times a day.  And my insurance company screwed me over when I had a plumbing problem flood my house, destroyed tons of my stuff including several computers.  Total loss, about $50k  Beware the red umbrella.  Any little bit of help is greatly appreciated.  I have fairly low power rates... so if you have an old miner that you want to donate I would be very grateful.  Contact me and I'll get you an address.

hmmm... well, I hit proceed again and it cleared, so I hope that means It's working again.  The client looks like it is mining, but my hash rate on the stats page is down still sitting at around .5  which is what I showed the other day when only my wife's machine and another older PC I have in the other older PC I have in the house and mine wasn't really contributing.  That was happening the other day when you were having issues.  I later found that my system wasn't contributing, I re-loaded the program, but that didn't help.  Ultimately I had to re-boot my computer to get it to start mining again.  Even though the client was saying I was connected and doing around 400 Mhps.

Any idea what's going on?

Hi again,

My system just popped up a "Bad Credentials" warning and shows my log in screen but it won't let me log in.  My wife's computer is still mining just fine on the same account.  I've seen that message pop up on her machine a few times in the last few days but it's always worked again as soon as I hit the "proceed" button.  That isn't working for me.  Any ideas?

I'm up to .00025 BTC!  Shocked  Been mining a little over a week now.  So if bitcoin goes to $1 million I'll have 250 bucks!  Damn I wish I had started 3 years ago when I started looking into it.  Stupid headaches melting my brain.

BitCON

uh huh  Cool

ROFL  Woops!  I suck so bad at typing.  And since Bitcoin isn't in my spellchecker as a word either, every time I type it it has the little red underline.  Thanks Peat!  I probably never would have seen that.  I even suck at begging, I guess you are bound to make mistakes on your first attempt right?  Tongue  I really hate even asking, but I keep getting told there are people out there that will help if they know my situation.  We'll see I guess, I'm really not holding my breath.  I really am excited about bitcoin and wish I could mine faster.  I'm afraid I missed my chance, I was just starting to look into it 3 years ago but then the headaches ramped up and when that happens I'm pretty much a basket case so I never got it set up. I even had a 5970 at the time.  I don't even want to think how many bitcoins I could have if I had been able to get started mining back then with that.  It's too depressing.

65  Economy / Economics / Re: Do You think banks are involved in bitcoin ? on: December 29, 2013, 08:45:13 AM
No.  NO. NO!

Banks are not involved in bitcoin.  Banks don't like bitcoin.  They can't make money on transaction fees, They legally can't hold it. Why would anyone put bitcoin in a bank except to get interest?  There is not interest on deposits right now for regular money.  In fact, the low interest rates makes bitcoin more viable since you can't earn significant interest by depositing normal money in the bank right now so no one cares that they don't get interest on their bitcoin and leave it in bitcoin instead of exchanging it for local currency they could deposit and earn interest.  Several bitcoin start up companies have had banks refuse to do business with them because the banks see them as competitors even though they have piles of cash from venture capitalists.

Banks will have no interest in bitcoin until they figure out how to make money from it.  Then they will start lobbying for laws to be changed so they can use it.  Until then they will either ignore it, or try to fight it.  Once the realize they can't really stop it if people want it, they may try to propagandize and shake people's faith in it.  But make no mistake, they don't want it to exist.  It exists outside their system, they can't make money on anything outside their system.  If many people start using it, they lose money.

That's OK right now since the Fed is printing money and giving it to the banks at 0% interest and they can make money with free money.  It's easy when you get free money you can loan it out at even low interest rates and make a fortune.  Of course it's the taxpayers and people holding cash that get screwed at some point in that scenario.  But by the time the shit hits the fan, someone else will be in office to take all the blame, so who cares!  Democrats have been doing that to republicans for ages, why stop now!  when the adults finally show up to clean up the mess you can blame it all on them since it supposedly happened under their watch, never mind the seeds were already planted.  Happens constantly, the housing bubble was just the most recent example.  Carter passes laws that force banks to make home loans to people that can't possibly pay them back.  Clinton puts that program on steroids so the banks try to come up with a way to do what the law forces them to do without losing their shirts, they come up with packaging the loans up in the thousands and selling them to wall street.  Bush tried 11 times to roll back the programs but the Dems and the media all call him mean and say he want to hurt the poor and that he's a racist etc.  When in reality he was trying to protect those people from taking out loans they couldn't possibly afford.  Then when it all collapses, it's Bush's fault.  This is exactly why we need bitcoin!  We must get the monetary supply out of government hands!

Must go to bed now..  G'night and don't belive everything you hear in the main stream media!

66  Economy / Auctions / Re: Ebay scams on: December 29, 2013, 07:31:47 AM
Interesting... I was actually considering selling some stuff on ebay to raise money for a mining machine.  I didn't know the seller took that much risk.  That sucks man, sorry you got screwed.  I don't know how people live with themselves after doing that shit to someone.  I've bought quite a bit of stuff on ebay, but never sold anything.  My wife sells some stuff on Etsy, but hasn't had any problems.  Since you guys seem to know quite a bit about this stuff I was wondering if I could ask you for some advice...  I see some really nice bitcoin miners for sale on ebay but they are pre-orders.  I was wondering if anyone knows if ebay will honor their protections for the buyer if I were to buy a pre-order on ebay and the seller never shipped it.  It would be like 2 months after the sale, so I don't know if they would honor their terms that late.  I know that ebay has buyer protection, as does paypal, and I figured if I paid with an American Express card through paypal that should give me additional protection, but not sure if it would work on a pre-order 2 = months in advance.  I really want to get one of the 1.2+ THs miners but most of the places selling them only accept bitcoin or wire transfer for them, and I have no protection that way unless I use escrow.  I haven't seen a company that is offering escrow for those miners.  There was a time when I was very trusting... but got burned once, happily AmEx covered me on it.  I love the idea of the way bitcoin works, but the trust issue is the biggest problem and where credit cards still hold an advantage.  We need a really cheap escrow system of some kind to get more people to use bitcon, if it costs too much people will fall back on their credit cards.   Maybe someone will come up with a bitcoin credit card...

Well... that explains why my hash rate has dropped today and I have had connection issues off and on.  Thanks for keeping us up to date.  Very new to BitMinter and bitcoin in general.  After trying to configure GUIminer for another pool unsuccessfully I found your site and was up and running in a few minutes!  Thanks, absolutely love it!  So far I think you are awesome!  Now I just need more power!  Wish I had found you 3 years ago when I first started looking at bitcoin.  I had a 5970 ready to go, but I get Cluster Headaches (Think day long migraine packed into 30 minutes to 2 hours and repeat up to 10 times a day.  clusterheadaches.com if you are curious) and they ramped up about then and I was good for nothing for a long time.  They have finally slowed down and now I'm trying to get up and running and wishing I had plowed through the pain and done it years ago.

Thanks again for a great service!

Very interesting!  Thanks for the info!  I looked into them since I don't have any decent mining hardware, just a 6970, but with difficulty where it is it's like using a toothpick to dig a gold mine.  But I would have just bought it to mine and it didn't look profitable to me, now I know why.

I'm fairly new to bitcoin, I looked into it 3 years ago, but before I got started mining my cluster headaches came back with a vengeance (cluster headaches.com if you are interested, but basically take a day long migraine and pack it into 1/2 hour to 2 hours and repeat up to 10 times a day) and it was impossible for me to think or figure anything out.  Now the headaches have slowed down and I'm trying to get back into it but I'm afraid I really missed my opportunity.  I have done some stock trading in the past so I understand the concepts involved.  Will have to look into it, thanks again for explaining it.

I had mostly been looking at getting a newer bitcoin miner.  There are some coming out soon at 1.2 THs to I've seen up to  3 THs.  But the kicker is you have to pre-order and they won't be delivered until March or April.  The question is will you be able to get your money back on those?  At $6k-$10K US, and with delayed shipping and difficulty rising it seems really risky.  When those start coming on-line it could really start to raise the overall difficulty if I understand it correctly.  Add that to the fact that I don't have the cash to lay out now to get a shipment in 2+ months and it makes me nervous.  What happens if they don't ever ship to me.  If I pay up front with bitcoin I'm screwed.  I have no recourse to get my money back.  If I could buy it with my American Express card I would be less concerned since they would cover me if I got screwed.  I don't know if there is an escrow service out there I could use or if they would accept it if I asked.  I really need some way I can make some money from home without a normal job because of the damned headaches I get.  It seems every time I start to get ahead they come back and I'm a basket case for several months to several years.  If I could have a machine mining even when I'm incapacitated due to the pain at least I'd be able to pay the bills and have a life when I'm in remission.  The problem is anyone that promises you something like that is usually a scammer, but I thought bitcoin might fit the bill, at least for a few years until difficulty gets so high you need a multi-million dollar supercomputer to mine effectively.  If the damned headaches hadn't kicked up when they did, I could have been mining 3 years ago and possibly have enough profits to live on for quite some time by now, but that's my life...

Let me know what you think.  I'm open to any suggestions or ideas that might help me figure a way to make a living.  I've even thought of setting up a online store selling something and accepting bitcoin, but I don't know what to sell, and if the headaches kick up again, fulfillment could be a problem unless I have a drop shipping system where I didn't have to do the fulfillment.

Thanks for any ideas!

Hmm... I think my browser is messed up.  That's probably why it isn't showing up for me.  I did get the pop up for cash payment to work once finally.  But the bitcoin payment still doesn't pop up for me.   Great job accepting bitcoin!  I saw in the financial news that Overstock.com will- start accepting bitcoin within 2 months and Victoria's Secret just announced that they will start accepting bitcoin soon!

As Kosh from Babylon 5 would say:

"And so it begins..."

(If you like sci-fi and haven't watched Babylon 5 you should.  The pilot is awful, so bad that I don't know how they ever got the series made, and the first half of the first season is rough, but after that it really gets good.  By season 3 you can't wait for the next episode... but it is rough slogging through the early stuff, it gets better I promise.)

OK I think I figured out a way to publicly destroy it for you if you really must do it...  I'd still rather you donate it to my mining rig fund... but if you must do it...

Get a camera and film it.  Put the bitcoin you want to destroy in a wallet.  Hook up 2-3 keyboards up to the computer so they all work.  Put the keyboards on the floor in a small room, Set the cursor up so it's ready to encrypt the wallet...  Then throw a dog and cat in the room that don't like each other and watch them trample on the keyboards for a moment then open the door.  The wallet should now be haplessly scrambled with a long random passcode.  I suppose you could do the same thing by just getting multiple people to pound on the keyboards randomly... but the dog and cat idea is funnier, so long as they won't actually hurt eachother, chasing eachother around is fine.  As an alternate you could put a litter of playful puppies in the room... but they might pee on your keyboards.  If you do it I want the link to the youtube video!

If that gave you a laugh, please donate to my bitcoin mining machine fund.

Out of curiosity... Why would you want to destroy them?  And are you really trying to do it? Or just wondering if it could be done?  I have to admit, I'm curious now too, but I don't have money to burn.  I can see that if you destroy some it raises the value of the rest of them... but if you have fewer of them does it really help you?

I'm kind of new to bitcoin, I think it's a brilliant concept.  I actually started looking into mining it about 3 years ago, but I get Cluster Headaches (imagine a day long migraine packed into 30 minutes to 2 hours, then repeat up to 10 times a day, or check clusterheadaches.com if you are curious.) and they ramped up about that time, when that happens I'm a basket case and can't really do much of anything, it hurts too much to think.  I even had a 5970 back then   Cry   Fast forward to now... I'm trying to get some mining equipment but I'm in debt up to my eyeballs because my insurance company screwed me over on a plumbing related flood to the tune of about $50k worth of stuff that was destroyed much of which I put on credit cards to replace then they refused to pay me back because I filled out a form incorrectly.  So umm.. if you just want to see something destroyed... you could send the bitcoins you don't want to me and I can send you some really nasty pictures of what water can do to your house and your stuff.  And um...  I don't recommend Travelers insurance...
