Polls taken from various countries shows that millenniums ages 18 to 34 were the most willing to share their data if insurance companies offered substantial discounts on their policy premiums.
In the youngest group polled 62% said they would agree for the insurance companies to use data from Facebook,
exercise applications and smart devices if it meant lowering their insurance premiums according to a poll conducted by Mulesoft, Inc from Salesfirce.com Inc. on 8,000 consumers on a global scale. The percent falls to 44% when older generations are included in the poll.
The older generation, 45% of people ages 35 to 54, would allow insurers broad access to their digital identity compared to only 27% of people older than 55 years.
Insurers are investing millions of dollars to improve their digital offers in the mist of growing competition of emerging companies dealing with financial technologies.
There is however lots of work to be done, 58% of the people polled stated that the systems did not function perfectly and many had difficulty completing the digital formularies.
56% said they would change their insurance carrier if the digital service provided was not good.
The insurers are fighting to offer the complete experience according to Jerome Bugnet from Mulesoft. This is happening “ even before considering how to incorporate all these new sources of data in the equation.”
