Buddy has already found it for free online.  He's watching it now apparently.
62  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Sony Pictures Pulls “The Interview” From Theaters on: December 24, 2014, 07:59:54 PM
So they will be showing the movie in roughly 200 theaters across the USA, down from the original 3000 that they planned. Nothing planned in Canada so far. This has been one big disaster after another for Sony. Especially since it will probably hit online for free any day or hour now.

The deadline for ordering the movie from Sony was a couple days ago.  I don't think any theaters in Canada will be showing it.  Sad

The only reason I'm at all interested in the movie is because much of it was filmed in Vancouver.  Downloading for free will be just fine.

They're doing a digital on-demand release as well through the major platforms. I agree, they're not going to be making the money they thought they would on this, but you could hardly ask for better publicity.

Hard to say on the publicity, I still think the damage has been done.  As for the digital on demand, LOL! It will be on torrent sites within a few hours for free.

65  Economy / Services / Re: Pocket Dice Signature Campaign is back again! on: December 24, 2014, 06:53:21 PM
Hi everyone!

We've come with good news and bad news.
Good news are that we've made your payment. Here's the proof link: https://blockchain.info/tx/6ed335cfea7ee7d2d784b2c99b018328f9f7b5a08852d933425c05f3fe5a166d
Bad news are that it's the last payment.
After brief two weeks we've decided to shut down our campaign once again. Mainly because of a little to no feedback at all.
It's been great working with you guys and we're gonna miss it, but there's no point for us to continue this campaign. So no hard feelings.
Aside from that, you are still welcome to join our referral program: https://pocketdice.io/referral/
Or join the general discussion of Pocket Dice in its main thread: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=703265

Take care now and have great holidays!
Cheers!

Shame it's ending again. Didn't really provide any feedback as the campaign was working flawlessly.  Was just posting and hoping that I was bringing in some bitcoin for Pocket Dice.  Oh well, its been a blast, and thanks for such a great working campaign.  Will keep you guys on the radar, hopefully you'll choose to reopen it in the future.

Have a great Holidays and a Happy New Year, Cheers!

Interestingly he has made another post 3 hours after creating this thread, so he probably has re-discovered the usefulness of his account. Smiley

I'm only sticking around if I can my damn "New RBox"es to work or I'm gone. That's why I posted in the Awesome Miner thread, hoping I could get them to work through that and CGMiner; but I can't even get any devices to show up. MultiMiner finds my devices (except my gridseed) but the RBoxes apparently hate BFGMiner because they only mine at 20GH/s when they should be doing 100+ GH/s.

No clue what "New RBox"es are, but Dogie has a tonne of useful threads regarding various miners, he might be able to help you, or someone in the thread can help.  Got me up and running months back within a couple days of posts in the thread on cube miners.

Here is a link to one of his threads with a list of equipment he covers: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=829903.0

As I said in https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=666307.msg9884609#msg9884609 this might just be a marketing move. With the attention the hack got, no matter who did it, build up even more attention, then release the movie some time later. That or those 100TB contain something Sony wants to keep secret at all costs.

I highly doubt it is a marketing move.  The hackers made off with a tonne of information from Sony, some of it highly personal and sensitive.  They have halted tours of their studios, and Sony employees have filed a class action lawsuit against them for leaking the data. They've also lost a ton of brand power, productivity, and reputation over this. I'm sure lots of people have lost theirs jobs as well.

If it is a marketing move, it's a highly risky one.  Sony has a lot more to lose over this than gain.  Pisses me off, I was looking forward to seeing it.  They filmed much of it in Vancouver.

I didn't mean that they faked the hack, only that not releasing the movie might be a publicity stunt. Trying to make the best of the situation. But as you and others said, even doing that cost them and cinema chains a lot of reputation, so that doesn't seem the case. But I doubt North Korea was behind this. Too much of a convenient scapegoat.

Yeah, I don't see North Korea being behind it, easy target for blame from the USA though.

Also, it looks like Sony will be releasing the movie in theaters Christmas day.

In a bizarre twist ... Sony has done an about face and it's green-lighting "The Interview" for theaters to run on XMAS day.

The CEO of Alamo Drafthouse Cinema tells TMZ  .... Sony called Monday and said a copy of the film would be delivered Wednesday. The CEO -- was vague about extra security, but says it will run in more than 20 theaters, located in Texas, Colorado, Virginia, New York and more.

An Atlanta theater owner says he got a similar call and he plans on running it as well.

The Alamo group plans to make it a celebration, with margaritas ... which will probably make the movie better.

Personally, I don't really care to see it. Not at theater prices anyway.  Is/was it all a publicity stunt? I don't really know anymore, but I think the damage has already been done.  Guess we will see what kind of interest they get for the movie in a few days.
68  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How are doomsday preppers using BTC in their plans? on: December 23, 2014, 06:04:05 AM
I don't mean to sound too dramatic but what difference would it make anyway? In doomsday scenario people will even be throwing away gold. In chaotic condition who would maintain btc network

How do you figure? I see gold being a rather big commodity in a dooms day scenario. Precious metals will always hold value, even during a doomsday scenario. Not as much value as food and water I don't think, but I'm willing to bet that people will accept gold to purchase said food and water.
69  Other / Meta / Re: Show new replies to your posts area? Help! on: December 23, 2014, 03:58:58 AM
There are a few threads that are absolutely annoying me.  I don't want them to show up in my "Show new replies to your posts" area.  I tried clicking "unwatch" but they still come up when people comment/post in there.   How can I once and for all get rid of specific ones?   Thanks in advance.

As others have stated, it's not possible to remove threads from the list, unless you go in and delete all your comments in the thread that's annoying you. Which is a pain in the ass all on it's own.  Can use the watchlist, but I've never looked into how it works.  I tend not to bother commenting on certain threads because I know they will just show up later down the road, LOL!
70  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Sony Pictures Pulls “The Interview” From Theaters on: December 23, 2014, 12:40:47 AM
I simply don't get it why everyone is calling this a PR stunt.
Results of the "PR stunt" so far:
- lots of financial damage
- a huge amount of private and confidential of the company/employees data floating around on the net
- 5 DVD screener copies leaked
All of this hassle just for 1 movie that will be pirated anyway (if not more than others)?

They are simply not informed people that are calling it a PR stunt.

All great points but your last one, this will probably be the LEAST pirated movie in history.

Sony is releasing it for 100% free so there is absolutely no reason to pirate this movie at all.

http://nypost.com/2014/12/21/sony-plans-to-release-the-interview-on-crackle-for-free/

By the looks of it, Sony is trying to release it before anonymous does.  Guess this way, Sony will figure they might get people using their service, which will likely bring in ad revenue. Also, I imagine many will still choose to pirate the movie, instead of using the Sony site. I'd rather download it, put on a usb stick, and watch it on my TV.
71  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Sony Pictures Pulls “The Interview” From Theaters on: December 22, 2014, 04:42:22 AM
Looks like Anonymous will be releasing the movie as a sort of Christmas gift, LOL! What a disaster for Sony.  Sony Pictures was helping keep Sony afloat as they've been losing billions. Gotta wonder where Sony goes from here.  The damage from all this will be interesting to watch play out.

http://uproxx.com/movies/2014/12/anonymous-north-korea-plan-release-the-interview/

"It was only a matter of time before the hacker collective Anonymous put their two cents in regarding the Sony hack. Early on Friday, one of Anon’s many Twitter accounts set their sights on North Korea, the hacker group known as #GOP (aka Guardians of Peace) and Sony Pictures regarding the decision to pull The Interview from theaters. From the looks of things, they are planning on releasing the movie to the world themselves. From Twitter:"

There are a bunch of twitter comments in the link from anonymous bashing Sony, LOL!

There are suggestions that the movie halls didn't want to screen it and Sony took the flak for acceding to their request and not releasing the film.

Yeah I heard that they were afraid there were going to get sued if anyone one got hurt Like the aurora shooting in Colorado a couple years back.

Considering it America, I could see a few whack jobs using it as an excuse to shoot up a bunch of theaters.
72  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Shrem to jail for two years!!! Holy shit! on: December 20, 2014, 02:34:56 AM
The fed is crazy!  What the hell does Charlie have to go to jail for two years for?  If you are going to do bitcoin, be careful you don't do something illegal!!!!

Thanks for the head's up! I'll make sure not to conspire with drug dealers to launder cash. lol

Make sure not to use your real name either, LOL!  What did Shrem think would happen?  He really isn't the sharpest knife in the drawer.

As for the OP:

The whole "If you are going to do bitcoin, be careful you don't do something illegal!!!!" works with every type of currency, why would bitcoin be any different?  Also, he has to go to jail because he laundered money. He knew exactly what he as doing.  Pretty straight forward if you ask me.

74  Economy / Micro Earnings / Re: freebitco.in - is it even worth it? on: December 20, 2014, 12:48:17 AM
I've been using it since January on and off when I remember.  It's one of my pinned sites on Firefox, so I usually hit it up 5 or 6 times a day.  I have pretty much nothing to show for it.  I get more by making a couple posts through the sig. campaign I'm on.  If you can manage to get referrals that continue to play on a regular basis, you might get something worth while.  All my referrals stopped playing after a few days/weeks.

I do tend to play it more when the price of bitcoin is down.  Definitely get a better payout.  So lately, I've played it a lot more. Still hoping for that 10,000 roll, but I don't think it is possible.
75  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Would you name your baby Satoshi for 150 bitcoins? on: December 20, 2014, 12:32:22 AM

https://bitcoinstarter.com/projects/946

The story about this project is pretty bizarre and i was wondering about ethical issues raised! If someone give you 150 btc would you?

I sure would.  Just because that's his legal name, doesn't mean you can't call him/her another name.  There was a local radio station contest, and a guy changed his legal name to Heywood Jablome. It was on 99.3 CFOX. Can't remember what he won, but I really doubt he goes by that name now.  Even at today's rate, that would be a great start to a college fund.

Motorola Startac

Nothing more cathartic than slapping a phone shut to end the call. I miss that  Wink

I miss the old school home phones for that very reason.  It was so satisfying to be able to slam the phone down on idiots. Such a great feeling.  You also know that the people knew what you did as well, because next time they talked to you, they apologized for being an idiot, LOL!

They were also good as a stand by weapon in case you ever needed one. The hand piece on those are SOLID.

macgyver Shocked

I used to love that show when I was a young kid.   That show and Quantum Leap.

MacGyver and Quantum Leap were 2 of my favorites growing up. I was always amazed as a kid what MacGyver could create out of nothing.  I watched a few episodes a while back and all I could think was how impossible it is to make those things work.  I miss being a kid sometimes.   The innocence of it all and the things our mind would allow us to believe, LOL!

Another of my faves growing up was A-Team and Airwolf.
78  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Handing out bitcoin in New York (1000 bits/person) on: December 18, 2014, 12:33:46 AM
I've been handing out bitcoin in the streets of New York, 1000 bits/person. Sometimes people laugh, sometimes people are curious, many times they're just apathetic. But it's a lot of fun. We have some videos on our YouTube Channel https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCgg8PiB0kx-FelLlPUH1weQ If you're in New York and want to join us please message me--we do this in the mornings 8:30am.

Full disclosure: I started this to raise some awareness for our project coinspace.io, but totally committed to getting the word out on bitcoin for its own sake.

Good job, great way to introduce people into bitcoin, even if you are mainly doing it to bring awareness to your project.  I saw some people doing something similar in Vancouver last summer.  I kinda stood off to the side for a bit and watched.  Many just kept walking, but a fair amount of people did stop and listen to what they had to say and accepted the free bits.  Hard to say what they did with them.  But even if 1 person gets on board, I'd say its a success.

I know I was highly skeptical about it at first until someone took the time to explain it to me so I could understand it.  I've nowe told numerous people about it, and a few of my friends are now into it.  Every little bit helps.
79  Other / Off-topic / Re: Do you remember your first mobile phone? on: December 18, 2014, 12:19:02 AM
I sure do remember my first cell phone.  It was back in 2000 and it was a Sanyo SCP4000.  As a phone, it was great.  You could drop it without worrying bout it breaking, the battery would last for days, and it lasted me almost 4 years.  Of course all it did was work as a phone, but it was still better quality than most of the phones these days.  Also, you didn't need to put the phone in a protective case so it wouldn't break, LOL.

I also liked the size of the phones back then, today they're far too light and thin.  Back then you knew if you had your phone on you, now they are easy to misplace in a pocket.

80  Economy / Speculation / Re: Rouble crash didn't give a chance to Bitcoin? on: December 17, 2014, 06:34:31 AM
The Rouble has fallen sharply against the dollar recently
but why this didn't call a strong buy in Bitcoin and bring the price up while the gold and oil are also going down?

Considering the drop in the price in Rouble, and the sharp increase in interest rates, I doubt buying bitcoin is the first thing on their minds.  Bitcoin isn't exactly a strong investment these days either.  I'm sure most are worried about keeping a roof over their head and food on the table.  Russia is in tough right now, especially with the hard sanctions that have been places against them because of Putin.  Bitcoin as it sits isn't some miracle fix when a currency fluctuates, especially when bitcoin is just as volatile.

The price of oil will go up eventually as will the value of the Ruble.
