    Hey im a long time holder and supporter of the Quarkcoin, I ahh bought 100,000 odd the very next day after Cryptsy it up for trade and iv been holding most of them ever since...

    I just wanted to come for a visit to see how the Quark community is going as its Quarks 1st birthday in a few days and wanted to say HAPPY BIRTHDAY QUARKCOIN and WELL DONE DEVS!!!

    WELL DONE... For not losing interest and keeping Qrk alive, Thanks for all the work you've put in over the last year and i hope theres many more to come....

    STICK TO WHAT YOU THINK IS BEST FOR QRK DONT DO NO STUPID SHIT OTHERS ARE YOU PUSHING TO DO... Smiley Iv seen many of coin i invested in over the last 2.5 years iv been buying/trading coins simply die in the ass... For varies reasons, You only have to have a look around at all coins that had great potential once upon a time that are now dead or worthless, Go check out the ADT community for example... Literally go have a look at what a divided and arguing community has done to that coin.

    I want to point something out... Look at the all time trading history of Qrk on Cryptsy, It traded for 3-4 months from July to mid November between 0.00000040 - 0.00000400 and never any higher in those months until every single coin got pumped to Mooon in November and Qrk went along for the ride with all the other coins, Since then every coin not just Qrk but every coin has come crashing back to Earth and many harder than others, I think compared to many coins Qrk is shaping up better than most have in that time its still trading at 5x what it was before it got pumped (Think of it that way)... Many of these new coins coming out WOW there are shitloads arnt there? I can see many of those coins dying off just as iv seen so many in my time, Most are just pump, dump get rich quick coins that dont have a solid footing in the crypto world... Me personally have much more faith in the oldschool coins that had innovation in the early days, They have stood the test of time they've been pumped, dumped, thrashed out but they still here doing well... Qrk will have good times again (After this financial crisis is over)... Block rewards halve next couple days so buy up while Qrkcoins are still cheap...

    Anyways... Keep on keepin on guys, Im glad your still here putting the effort in to make sure Qrk is around for along time to come... HAPPY BIRTHDAY QUARKCOIN YOU ROCK Smiley[/list]

    Thank for this awesome post, and a reminder of what a great community we have!!!

    @quarkfx, i seen in the document where you state as one of the cons of merge mining there is no development fund. Wouldn't this fund come from a premine?

    Yes! Or mining for the foundation, or some solution as yet to be agreed upon..This is not a con at all- it was a challenge to be figured out, to make it a pro- so that the end result would would be not only increasing hashrate, but also creating funding for the Foundation for infrastructure building..

    However, so many posts have taken place here that it is extremely confusing for anyone to follow any one proposal- Its getting too muddled here. Most people dont even understand what a merge mine is http://bitcoin.stackexchange.com/questions/273/how-does-merged-mining-work , and there are two totally different "companion coin" discussions, in addition to other completely different proposals-

    I started out several pages back attempting to guide the discussion a bit in the direction of a merge mine, only because Max has already agreed this might be a good idea to consider, to support the hashrate..(In addition to the checkpoints). But there are so many ideas flying around here, and I wasn't about to speak for Max on this topic. We need more info on what he would seriously consider.

    So, we will need to know a bit more from Max at the next meeting before proceeding with any of this.

    For devs of new wallet version 0.9.2 (new very early stage of development wallet) only:

    But - I have 1000x less QRKs than before. Only a few Smiley Probably same with transactions.

    Syncing with network probably work.

    I refuse to test other sensitive options Smiley

    After returning to current version of wallet, 0.8.23, or my 0.8.24, it seems blockchain is corrupted

    Do not use this new early stage wallet 0.9.2, just for experiments, except if you have to like I had to Smiley Do backup! Smiley

    I see devs work on new wallet based on gui from bitcoin v0.9.2.1.

    I compiled wallet with newest github source for v0.9.2.1.  Some problems solved, wallet started normally. Blockchain seems downloaded fully but still not compatible with prev wallet v0.8.3.23 or my 24). So it needs resyncing (or recovering from backup).

    Above problem with showing 1000x less quarks still present.

    Advance is obvious.

    One suggestion:

    In configuration.ac change line

                 AC_SUBST(INCLUDES)           =>           AC_SUBST(AM_CPPFLAGS)

    INCLUDES is obsolete.

    This wallet is not ready for testing at all! They have begun the transition- I will let you know when the update is complete and ready for testing-

    Additionally, our C++ coder/Quark community member: Someguy1234.. will be assisting Max with updates! Cheesy

    From Max Guevera.:

    "Status on 0.9.2 code-base upgrade:

    I've setup a github repository on:

    https://github.com/MaxGuevara/quark092/

    based on the latest Bitcoin 0.9.2 branch.

    The following changes have been committed:

    https://github.com/MaxGuevara/quark092/commits/master

    * Makefiles updated
    * Chain parameters
    * Checkpoints
    * Configuration files
    * SHA2 POW hashing replaced with Quark hashing
    * Some translations from "Bitcoin" to "Quark"
    * Graphics
    * Payment server

    The following changes were applied to Quark:

    https://github.com/MaxGuevara/quark/commits/master

    All these commits needs to be included in the 0.9.2 branch of Quark.

    In particular we still need to add dynamic checkpoints, from this commit:

    https://github.com/MaxGuevara/quark/commit/79c3190f111cd97cfa653c382417499c1614948c

    Other changes still to do:

    * Places where UI text still says "Bitcoin"
    * Chinese translations for "Quark"
    * Other core differences between Quark and Bitcoin, particular those made by Sifcoin
    * Lots of testing!

    Someguy(NameEdited), feel free to create pull requests for any additional changes or e-mail me queries you may have.

    Cheers"

    I have received the following comment from our dev team regarding this post, until you can prove otherwise? Thank you- Meantime, I have contacted the moderators... If you can prove that you have good intentions and can make your changes publicly viewable, I will edit this post accordingly:
    "My first reaction is to stay away!  It's a zip file containing a binary, with no source code available.  Additionally, the text of his post does not mention him adding a single feature, he just lists the libraries he has on his computer that he used when compiling (who cares?).

    Even if it's not a scam, if he wants to make changes to the wallet, he should fork the source code on github and make his changes publicly viewable.  If they are minor ones he should just submit pull requests for them to Max, or Someguy1234 if it's a quark-social specific change.

    So my advise is to mark it as a scam and tell people to stay away."

    Hi there,
    Can you comment a bit more on what exactly this is, for us non-techies?
    And also post images of what this wallet looks like?
    I am a bit confused as to why someone would download this, i.e., what is its value, and how do we know it can be trusted?
    There is a concept GUI in the works from a C++ coder and another active Quark member who is a graphics designer--
    The same C++ coder is now working with Max on updating the Bitcoin 0.9.x changes into the Quark wallet-
    Thanks for the clarification on what you have provided here for us
    - are you a C++ coder, and are you available to assist Max as well?
    Please let me know and I will pass it on.

    Unless the companion coin also uses the Quark algorithm and has some purpose that compliments Quark it is a bad idea and sends all the wrong messages.

    If it uses an algo other than Quark you are saying Quark algo is not the best...that is no help to Quark.

    If it serves no purpose or compliment it would just be another competitor for the same crowd...like if coke and pepsi were both from the same company spending millions on advertising campaigns against themselves.

    If Quark is the fast transaction standard for business then the companion coin should either be 1) a mid to high % pos coin that people like to hold and stack like silver bars with a mid level block time and a steady pow reward...think Cthulu for reward amount and slow rate of halving, and Hobonickels for pos rate, or 2) it should be an Anonymous type coin, though I think there are already enough of those with a few clear winners in that race.

    It has been said that pow+pos coins like HBN, CAPs, TEK etc need a lot of dev maintanance but I don't see any of those Devs even mentioning that.  There are ZERO quark algo POW + POS out there now.  That would be UNIQUE.  It also doesn't interfere or compete with Quark as the strategies and mindset for holding/trading higher interest POS/POW coins is different than that of Quark.  A premine would create a nice Dev trustfund that stakes and generates more revenue.  If managed well the draw vs replenishment can be balanced.  Some could also be used for social justice campaigns like HBN that donate some stake to various charities.

    I think if you are going to bother with a companion coin then make it an obvious attempt at something, not just a useless clone with no vision or purpose other than a hashrate bump for a month until it is pumped on mintpal and dies like the other 75 coins released last month.

    Good points as well

    If the companion coin is merge-mined with Quark, it must be a quark algo in order to merge..
    The tricky part is coming up with the features that will be of interest to people-
    I do like the idea of a longer term distribution/higher value coin with anonymous features--The reason I like anonymous features (if done right -i.e. no chance of double spending),is because the govt is stating they are in favor of Bitcoin regulation- These words mean tracking finances to me- a Quark algo coin with anonymous features merge-mined to increase hashrate and provide some infrastructure funds would be a nice scenario... Quote
    we raise a substantial development pot

    This won't work trust me, people are not so keen on donating to devs and we are talking about a pretty decent amount. Quark hashing problem needs to be solved, you can't have a successful Crypto without the needed security and merge mining seems to help with that. Premine with reliable core members as explained by quarkfx is going to be this development pot where technology such as for example sidechains or other features can be implemented.

    Like quarkfx said: "We set up a pool with a fee of 1% that will be dedicated to the developers. Those of us who want to fund the developer agree on a mining plan that will give back to the developer. This way we actually pay for their work and give them shares of the currency at the same time, which will foster self-interest. We can also agree what their "base" work is and then pay them share of the bounties where every bounty needs to be democratically blessed by the Foundation."

    +1 to everything above!
    • Merge mine with new coin(with longer term distribution/value, and some new features)---> some method (community pre-mine or some version thereof to be decided upon) creates transparent infrastructure bounty pot,  while mining increases hashrate for Quark--->Foundation votes democratically on projects for spending on Quark development.

    • Devs get paid through some separate mining pool percentage arrangement...maybe some larger amount for initial payment, and then continued %age, for as long as they stay involved (I suggest needing to demonstrate some involvement)

    Hey everyone, please check out this post and comment/pledge, we have a new Concept GUI in the works:

    Details:
    "Hello Everyone!

    I am pleased to announce that there is a concept GUI wallet  in the works by two of our core Quark community members:

    Someguy1234...!! (C++ coder)
    and Undercard!! (Graphics designer/ mobile wallet splashpage creator etc).

    **GOAL: To make a sleek and attractive new wallet with unique features that will be  fun and  user friendly.**

    This concept of this wallet project has been in the works for some time and has some new social and mining features that have been added to the Qt by someguy:D..(before the release of the new user interface itself).

    We ask you to please test this wallet here and give feedback!!:
    Download here: https://www.dropbox.com/s/omn0mwfcwt63xdr/quarkcoin-qt-social-2.3.exe

    What additional features would you like to see? Suggestions?

    ***Also, if you believe in the power of the Quark community to get *important infrastructure projects* created- *please PLEDGE a donation* to this project to show your interest & support to keep it going!!***

    So till now I have 2 issues, one is that the ctrl+tab is not working, and second when selecting send it sends my mouse pointer to send or if I click receive again it sends my pointer to export.
    edit : also when I have a conversation with someone in the `social` tab I can't close it, could be useful to put a right-click and close option and also rightclick and whois on that user.
    later edit: the copy ctrl+c also doesn't work and the hyperlinks inside the irc although they are highlighted and blue they don't open when I click on them...

    - also when selecting a different conversation and then going back into the original channel/conversation it takes me to the top of the screen..

    Can these be put in a to do list ?

    as a future improvement can you add our hashrate into `mining` tab so that when we click start mining we can see whats the hashrate and other info like `a block was found x seconds ago`, and clickning on that takes us to qrk.blockr.io into that block details. what do you think ?
    Maok,
    I have written to the dev for the GUI(someguy123..)-But also is there any chance you can post on the official Reddit thread as well? http://www.reddit.com/r/QuarkCoin/comments/29pigg/testing_testingnew_quark_wallet_gui_in_the_works/

    @cryptohunter isn't it a better idea for those investors you're talking about to simply create a development pot instead cheating and create a superblock out of nothing or companion coin ? The latters will bring very negative press while the former will prove that the investors care about Quark. I'm not an investor per se but I'm willing to donate monthly to any development fund publicly announced by the dev team.

    Yes, i mean that would be way better. However that will not happen. People just don't donate. The logic is why donate to things that benefit the entire qrk community even those that don't donate anything. The superblock is simply a 10% donation from everyone if you want to look at it like that. That donation will be rewarded proportionally too so win win.

    Sure i mean if every qrk investor would donate to a development pot that would be nice. ROI projects are really the only way to get investment that way though from my experience. Doge seems a special case, they seem to raise funds from super whales with ease.

    QRK just lost another 10% today ..... that was the development pot right there? come on guys step up and do something before qrk is totally beyond help.

    All the we are discussing possibly doing something that may help is not what the market wants to hear.

    We found some bugs in the paper wallet generator:
    http://www.qrkwallets.org/

    The bugs are first noticed when one cannot take a private key generated from one of the pages and place it in the "Wallet Details" page to get the details of that key.  This indicates that there are four lines of code that need to be changed:

    From Line 5280 in the qrkwallets.org html file:
    Code:
    // 51 characters base58, always starts with a '5'
    ECKey.isWalletImportFormat = function (key) {
    key = key.toString();
    return (ECKey.privateKeyPrefix == 0x80) ?
    (/^5[123456789ABCDEFGHJKLMNPQRSTUVWXYZabcdefghijkmnopqrstuvwxyz]{50}$/.test(key)) :
    (/^9[123456789ABCDEFGHJKLMNPQRSTUVWXYZabcdefghijkmnopqrstuvwxyz]{50}$/.test(key));
    };

    // 52 characters base58
    ECKey.isCompressedWalletImportFormat = function (key) {
    key = key.toString();
    return (ECKey.privateKeyPrefix == 0x80) ?
    (/^[LK][123456789ABCDEFGHJKLMNPQRSTUVWXYZabcdefghijkmnopqrstuvwxyz]{51}$/.test(key)) :
    (/^c[123456789ABCDEFGHJKLMNPQRSTUVWXYZabcdefghijkmnopqrstuvwxyz]{51}$/.test(key));
    };

    Several things are leftover from bitcoin code, such as the '5' and the L and K and the 0x80.  It should be changed to this:
    Code:
    	// 51 characters base58, always starts with a '7'
    ECKey.isWalletImportFormat = function (key) {
    key = key.toString();
    return (ECKey.privateKeyPrefix == 0xBA) ?
    (/^7[123456789ABCDEFGHJKLMNPQRSTUVWXYZabcdefghijkmnopqrstuvwxyz]{50}$/.test(key)) :
    (/^9[123456789ABCDEFGHJKLMNPQRSTUVWXYZabcdefghijkmnopqrstuvwxyz]{50}$/.test(key));
    };

    // 52 characters base58
    ECKey.isCompressedWalletImportFormat = function (key) {
    key = key.toString();
    return (ECKey.privateKeyPrefix == 0xBA) ?
    (/^[U][123456789ABCDEFGHJKLMNPQRSTUVWXYZabcdefghijkmnopqrstuvwxyz]{51}$/.test(key)) :
    (/^c[123456789ABCDEFGHJKLMNPQRSTUVWXYZabcdefghijkmnopqrstuvwxyz]{51}$/.test(key));
    };

    Additionally there is still a link to the bitaddress.org github repo.

    Yikes, thanks Hash E!
    I will contact the person whom I believe might be able to help with this!

    Cryptohunter,
    I want to thank you for all the time, effort and energy you are placing into your proposals and keeping this thread and discussions going- I personally am not against the idea of a superblock concept per se, if it had been a part of the original design of a coin..However I think that forking Quark's code to place the superblock and thererfore change the original idea/inflation model is not the way to go and may create more negative attention/mistrust for Quark than anything.

    The idea of a companion coin to Quark is somewhat appealing, if there were a way to help boost the hashrate (the only real issue for Quark), without creating a fork- while also offering features that Quark supporters might like to see, as well as a development fund for projects - This is why I was asking you to lay out what this might look like, say if the anon features/superblock were added to a companion coin..Is it not possible to accomplish this without affecting Quarks code itself?- Quark itself should remain untouched.
    Therefore I tend to lean toward your option A if something could be worked out, that would have no changes to Quark code itself.

    Well just about the only thing the companion coin can not solve is the hash rate issue. However, yes the companion coin would not mean touching or altering qrk itself.

    And then QuarkFX says...:

    I think we should go for a merge mining approach that integrates some structural changes and turn Quark back to a promising investment.

    The basic idea was that people would mine Quark because it had enough value which isnīt currently the case and will probably stay like this for several years. Thatīs why I think we should look for a merge mining solution. However, I donīt see other usable cPoW coins who could be seriously used for that. Why not creating a composite coin that experiments with some of the new features that are currently out there. We could use it as a sort of test baloon and integrate the features that do well into Quark.

    And whammo- we are getting closer to a solution, a "companion coin" to merge-mine with Quark, something that will test new features people are calling for...mined with Quark, increasing hashrate- I see this as a completely positive step in the right direction, as although Quark is somewhat safer from a 51% due to its checkpoint system, raising the hashrate will add an extra level of security.. Additionally a companion coin with some new test features (anonymity etc) could help assist in the raising of $ for Quarks infrastructure--Can we expand the discussion on this, community?

    QRK - needs a development pot too. How people don't see this is very strange. I've made a couple of suggestions and i see VIC is actually quite in favour of them. Next part is getting some action going on here. Shall we consult the current dev team to provide the companion coin or bring in a new dev team to build it?

    We sure do need a development pot- And as well we need support for infrastructure projects that are in the works, as detailed above...Such community support will help create momentum in the direction of creating new projects, believe it. Case in point, Hash Engineering. This being said, it would be nice to speed things up a bit in terms of developing projects and infrastructure.

    Also, some of the core community members are actively looking at solutions, including looking here at some of yours/others suggestions, so keep them coming!- (creation of a Superblock for Quark wont work, for reasons already stated) More people commenting and discussing these ideas would be helpful- Hopefully some solutions will start coming to the forefront soon.

    Hey everyone, please check out this post and comment/pledge, we have a new Concept GUI in the works:
    http://www.reddit.com/r/QuarkCoin/comments/29pigg/testing_testingnew_quark_wallet_gui_in_the_works/

    Details:
    "Hello Everyone!

    I am pleased to announce that there is a concept GUI wallet  in the works by two of our core Quark community members:

    Someguy1234...!! (C++ coder)
    and Undercard!!

    Because everyone is packing coins and not using them

    I agree that hoarding coins waiting for price to rise, and not spending them is a terrible strategy--On that note I just received  a package in the mail from www.hermeticseal.org , paid for in Quarks. (And my pearly whites are very happy... Grin see?).
    And btw, for every merchant adding BTC, this is an opportunity for Quark, so this is a good thing- ultimately this helps all crypto, because it helps increase crypto awareness to the masses...

    Additionally, I encourage EVERYONE to start using their Quarks toward developing infrastructure projects!
    Support projects you believe in that will be good for Quark Grin (For example, see my next post below).

    Thanks for the comments - indeed we will not do anything radical or fundamentally stupid like PoS - i hope you like our solutions when they come. : )
    can you add a 4-6 digit password on the qrk mobile wallet for essential operations ?

    I asked Hash Engineering about this, he states that he is hopeful that Andreas Schildbach will add it to the Bitcoin Wallet- Hopefully soon-
    Because Quarks Wallet is based on the Schildbach wallets coding/features, we will have to wait a bit on this one.
    Currently there is no Android wallet app with this feature.

    QUARK MOBILE WALLET IS NOW OUT OF BETA -RELEASED ON GOOGLE PLAY!!:
    https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=hashengineering.quarkcoin.wallet

    Thank you so much to HASH ENGINEERING who has worked tirelessly on this app-

    When other Android wallet devs said that the hashing functions were "beyond their skill level" to create this wallet, Hash Engineering pulled it off- with a beautiful Splash Screen to boot.

    Special Props on the Splash Screen and in app color layout go to QuarkFX, Undercard, and MJB Monetary Metals!!
    This has been MONTHS in the making, and it is the best looking Android App around!!

    Please everyone, if you appreciate all the hard work done on this app, make a donation to Hash from within the app itself, or use the tipping app to Hash Engineering on Facebook :

    Quark is not collapsing because people don't want to sell it , but those people will also not use it as paying for something because they want their coin to go up so there will be no usage.
    Reminds me of a twisted version of prisoner dilemma

    I had no idea Quark is collapsing :-) you remind me of some bitcoin-haters that said couple of months ago that it will collapse and will reach $10. No point hating a coin for the simple reason its different from Bitcoin.

    Regarding your point about consumption I would rather attribute that to deflationary currencies than inflationary ones like Quark because if I hold 1 btc now I'm more incentivised to keep it till it'll reach a certain price in 6-12 months, while if I hold 1 qrk I know the value won't go up in price alot more because the protocol will create more quarks each year so I rather hold more faith in an inflationary currency for day-2 day transactions than a deflationary one, right ? I mean, all bitcoiners - myself included, are waiting for the moon so we can dump it and buy a island, but with Quark I don't have those aspirations and I only hope it'll be accepted at more merchants so I can use it for my internet purchases.

    Excellent point!- And I rather like your game idea a lot. I would not say this is out of the realm of possibility at all. Don't listen to the nay sayers- there are people working actively on the gaming/mining idea trying to make it a reality.
