61  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [PRE-ANN][MAX] MaxCoin on: February 07, 2014, 03:46:41 PM
Well some folks are just better at writing than at reading. No offense Wink

Look, I did not expect to have to do compiling first in order to start mining.

The devs evidently are using the very latest Ubuntu, custom-modified with cryptopp-5.6.2 (the very newest).  Show me where the need to update to cryptopp-5.6.2 was anywhere announced pre-launch.

There was no way in hell that any Linux user could have started alongside everybody else, because every Linux user had to hunt through the readme's in the github source code, to find out what the stopper was, what we had to compile first in order to join the mining party.

And even then, even with the right version of libcryptopp, pool mining was not possible until 1gh independently and heroically released a fixed version of minerd.

The devs should have released versions of the maxcoind and maxcoin-qt and minerd binaries with libcryptopp.so.6.0.0 static-compiled in.

That they did not, shows either malice aforethought or abysmal lack of experience in Linux development.  It's got to be one or the other.

And where is the promised change-of-algorithm which will thwart GPU-mining?  Here I've been pool-mining for about 14 hours now on two quad-core machines, and have a whopping 1.3 MAX to show for it.  Big whoop-de-doo.

I have three quad core machines working overnight for 10 hours and now have 96 maxcoins.

No idea if that's good or terrible.

My money is on terrible ;-)

Well, since I have two quad-core machines, now active for about 9 hours, and have accumulated just 0.54 maxcoins...less than 1% of what you've garnered...I'm curious, are you mining solo, or through a pool?

Been mining MaxCoin for several hours now on the 1gh pool, have seen 18 shares accepted, have been paid zero MaxCoins.

What gives???

read main page pay out info.. not until you got 2 coins..

Aha, I see.  I have 0.14 coins, don't get paid til I have 0.2.

Let's see, if I keep my computer on 24 hours a day, I might get 0.2 or even 0.4 MAX per day.

Hmm ...wonder if it's worth the electricity...

Hmm...

After compiling libcryptopp.so.6 per the instructions, maxcoin-qt now runs, does not crash, and tells me I have ...a MaxCoin balance of zero.

This, after several hours of

./minerd -a keccak -o stratum+tcp://maxpool.1gh.com:17333 -u mSYhHxmENq65PTAZcVc3HhFsMNbmDopoHi -p x

...during which I saw 17 accepted shares, yay!!!

Is anyone else doing mining for 1gh.com and not getting paid anything???

Your page is http://max.1gh.com/user?wallet=mSYhHxmENq65PTAZcVc3HhFsMNbmDopoHi
You have 0.1498 MAX!
Read http://max.1gh.com/
"Payouts are made automatically when reaching 0.2 MAX!!!"
0.1498 < 0.2 !!!!!!!!

You need more power ))

Aha!!! So that's how it works!

This is a Phenom IIx4 965 quad-core at 3.0GHz.
My other computer is an i3570k at 3.4GHz.  It shows 82 accepted shares.  So I probably do have 0.2 or maybe even 0.4 MAX on that machine.

Hmm ...wonder if I'm making enough to pay for the electricity?

How do I get my current wallet address from maxcoind

I will pay you 0.005 btc for the first guy who can answer me.

I already use maxcoind getnewaddress , but I see I not receiving any balance when my pool need pay me few coin

I tried getting the wallet's address from maxcoind but couldn't, that's why I fired up maxcoin-qt and pressed the receive button and copied the address from there before maxcoin-qt crashed.

Where did you get yours? I cant even get a download to work of github

I had to create an account at github before it would allow me to download.

I got the windows wallet going on 2 pcs, but the Linux wallet will not build. Has anyone been able to compile it? How did you get it to make? Every time I run make it gives an error. QApplications not found. I've installed all the dependencies plus some other qt dependencies. WTF?

I could not get the git source to compile; even after I re-positioned several header (.h) files in the correct places. I was finally stymied by messages that the several boost libraries (and/or their .h files) were not present, even though they are.

The maxcoin-qt binary which was released at 10:56 AM via the twitter feed at
https://github.com/Max-Coin/clients
worked for about an hour, I was solo-mining at about 800 kH/s with it.  But then it crashed, and would not start again, with the error message from the command line saying that...um, I forget exactly, it was about an unintelligible symbol ZN8CryptoPP4SHA37RestartEv --which looks like (my wild guess) it might be indicating a wrong version of libcryptopp.so.

WHY didn't the devs release a STATIC-COMPILED Linux version of maxcoin-qt???  They must be bigoted in favor of their particular flavor which I don't know what it is --well, obviously some form of Debian or Ubuntu since they are using apt-get.

The way I found, to create the wallet in Linux, is, run the maxcoind binary.  This quits, saying you need the configuration file, but it does create, before it crashes, the ~/.maxcoin hidden subdirectory.  Into this subdirectory you place the maxcoin.conf which was released on the twitter feed at
https://github.com/Max-Coin/clients/blob/master/example-maxcoin.conf

and then restart maxcoind and it will start mining.  More nodes were added during the day, on the twitter feed, to add to your maxcoin.conf file.

Then, after 1gh fixed their cpuminer, I downloaded it, ./configure'd and make'd it, and ran it according to the command line

./minerd -a keccak -o stratum+tcp://maxpool.1gh.com:17333 -u mSYhHxmENq65PTAZcVc3HhFsMNbmDopoHi -p x

I found my wallet address by starting maxcoin-qt and, before it crashed, clicked the receive button and quickly did the ol' highlight + ctrl-C on the receive address.  Pasted it into a text editor (Geany) and made the above command line out of it, then highlight-and-middle-click'ed it into a terminal window.  You will of course use your own receive address, not mine.

In an hour and twenty minutes of mining on the 1gh pool, I've had 5 shares accepted from my 3.0GHz Phenom IIx4 965 and 25 shares accepted from my 3.4GHz i3570k.

Gratitude tips are welcome, to  mSYhHxmENq65PTAZcVc3HhFsMNbmDopoHi

I've gotten an accepted yay on the 1gh fixed minerd.  What, exactly, does that mean?

On the pool? You had a share accepted.

Yes, on the pool, using the fixed minerd and

./minerd -a keccak -o stratum+tcp://maxpool.1gh.com:17333 -u mSYhHxmENq65PTAZcVc3HhFsMNbmDopoHi -p x

Can someone give me an idea of how I calculate how many MaxCoins I should receive, given how many shares I've had accepted at 1gh?

I'm getting about one share accepted every 5 minutes on my 3.4GHz i3570k, and about one share every 15 minutes on my 3.0GHz Phenom IIx4 965.

I compiled minerd, and am running it, on uPup-3.9.9.1 (a variant of Puppy Linux based on Ubuntu Raring) on both machines.  The i3570k is doing about 2 MH/sec, the Phenom about 500 KH/sec.

I managed to get the Linux maxcoin-qt going, on a Puppy Linux derivative of Ubuntu Raring which includes qt-4.8.4, after I installed the appropriate Ubuntu Raring deb's of libdb_cxx-5.1.so and libcryptopp.so.  And then I had to build libboost-1.46.1.

However, in order to get the wallet up I had to first run maxcoind.

And, if I try to set the options on maxcoin-qt, it crashes with a Segmentation fault.

After solo-mining awhile at around 800 khashes/sec (Phenom II X4 965) for about an hour using maxcoin-qt, it crashed.  Attempts to restart it give the error message

./maxcoin-qt: symbol lookup error: ./maxcoin-qt: undefined symbol: _ZN8CryptoPP4SHA37RestartEv

The devs should've static-compiled Linux maxcoin-qt, and not left it to chance whether the user has the particular versions needed of libboost and libdb_cxx.  Also it could be that libcryptopp needs to be a particular version as well, but they don't tell us that.
