61  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The mysterious bitcoin flower opens once a day and reveals a free bitcoin on: August 14, 2011, 01:03:01 AM

How do you people know this stuff (in reference to knowing the movie title, of which I was unaware)?

I watched it before... I guess?

Something as unique as that sticks in my head.  Guess it does help that I am a fan of rodriguez/tarantino films also.
62  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: IxCoin is a SCAM on: August 13, 2011, 06:15:14 PM
Ixcoin is almost a big a scam as Bitcoin.  At least people don't actually lose real money with Ixcoin.  It's just a matter of time before the governments of the world crack down on these sham "currencies".

People lost money reading your post. Re: medical bill from having to bash head against wall.
63  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The mysterious bitcoin flower opens once a day and reveals a free bitcoin on: August 13, 2011, 04:09:35 PM

Not a show. It's a movie: Grindouse: Planet Terror.  The other subflick is Death Proof.  Dual feature, if you will.
64  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: Managing unstable overclock behavior, GPU errors under Linux / XP / Win7 on: August 13, 2011, 01:50:01 PM
Unfortunately or perhaps fortunately, all hardware, even those of the same brand and model and batch are unique.  I dare say they are almost human in that regard.  Bottom line is that you have to manual inch your way up (or down, if you will, regarding memory and/or efficiency).  Test for long periods, test a wide array of drivers, SDKs and for some people, even OSes.  On top of that, even BIOS settings which may or may not affect your PCIe lanes.

There is already a wealth of information out there and too much as a result of variables to list here.  I know that you don't want to hear it but perhaps you should try Google.

Sent another donation your way.  Look forward to your work on cgminer.

Scam... not in the literal sense.  It is a pump and dump operation, though.  He obviously mined all those coins before releasing it to make profit.  He's basically feeding off the dreams of people to become "Early adopter millionaires".  But hey, forget Ixcoin for a second, look at the person behind it.  He came here posting and basically showing himself as another "japanese guy with an idea".  Someone found out his avatar is actually someone else's pic but it's conveniently someone he just likes, that's why he has it as his avatar.  Solid.  Not to mention his name was found to be an anagram of Satoshi's name.  And to boot, he has a facebook paged registered with the same name and picture.  No doubt in attempt to make himself come off as the "real" person.  Sure you could say Satoshi himself played the same game but he made sure to cover his tracks, not to put more evidence out there to say "hey, look, this is me!".

Literally just changes a few values and copies the Bitcoin webpage and replaces it with a new banner.
68  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: Modified Kernel for Phoenix 1.5 on: August 12, 2011, 03:46:11 AM

What I am currently working on is a modified version of phoenix which runs multiple kernels with a single instance and a single work queue (to decrease excessive getwork).
I am also working on plugin support for it, so you can use various added features (such as built-in gui, Web interface, logger, autotune, variable aggression for when computer is idle, overclocking support, etc...)
This would make it tremendously easier for anyone to add features and you can still use whichever kernel works best for you.

As for cgminer support, I haven't tried it, are there any benefits over phoenix?  I may fork that instead of phoenix and make the plugin support via command-line, lua or javascript, although I find that python is much easier to code than c (especially for cross platform support).

Would definitely be interested in a cgminer fork.  Don't get me wrong, phoenix is great and has always given me the best performance overall but it does lack some of the more refined features, which the other poster listed above.  Failover and nice static but updated command line "UI".  Seems like you and diapolo are hitting the ceiling with phoenix anyway.
69  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [ANNOUNCE] Mining on Ixcoin, a new Bitcoin fork on: August 12, 2011, 03:17:48 AM
I mean it should be obvious from his original post.  He comes up with a japanese name and puts a japanese picture as his avatar so he can siphon off a supposed "Satoshi"-esque aura "hey, he is from japan.  must be awesome!!11!".  Then someone finds out he stole some random dude's picture.  He responds by saying "oh, I have him as an avatar because I like that guy".  Convenient.  On top of that, his name is found to be an anagram of Satoshi's full name.  Which is particularly odd because he advertises his real name as such and even went as far as to create a facebook account with the same/name picture to make himself appear as a real person.

And obviously the whole mining 500k coins before presenting it to the rest of the community.  All it takes is a little bit of research to find this all out.  Some people are making quick returns in BTC off it but I don't think they are mistaken that Ixcoin is some sort of legitimate alternative to bitcoin.

Err so basically, he goes with a name that resonates in the similar persona-esque "Satoshi Nakamoto" (Hey, it's another Japanese developer, must be awesome!) and using an avatar-image of said nationality and someone finds out it's someone else's picture.

No, not sus at all.

Catalyst 11.4 / SDK 2.4
Ref 5850 @ 920c/320m

-k phatk VECTORS BFI_INT FASTLOOP=false WORKSIZE=256 AGGRESSION=12

2.1: 399.27 to 399.63 Mh/s
2.2: 399.87 to 400.17 Mh/s

Damn those are some good hashrates for the core.

I think i will setup cat 11.4 aswell and test my card mem out at 320, my cores running between 1050-1150(for the extreme voltmodded version) all hd5850's aswell.

Yea beats me =/  I haven't been able to get my second 5850 (new 230SA Sapphire 5850 Xtreme) to achieve the same results.  In fact, it seems to hate SDK 2.4.

This will set a precedent for bitcoin services to users:  I AM SO ANGRY but sure, I'll let you take advantage of me and only take whatever pittance you are offering me, thus removing myself for any sort of action against you in the future.

75  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Why the price panic? (does anyone know anything about the 7th-Aug massive sell?) on: August 07, 2011, 07:49:47 PM
It's quite simple, actually.  If you look at the trending in that chart, they people who performed the massive sell-off did so because they had a light bulb go off; that is, if you bring down the brice of Bitcoins to zero, they can get bitcoins for free.

Profit!
76  Other / Politics & Society / Re: USA Credit Rating DOWNGRADED!! (For the 1st time.. EVER) on: August 06, 2011, 04:01:24 AM
First of all all 3 ratings agencies violated the law when that where publicly speculating during the debt-ceiling kabuki theater. The law prohibits them from giving a rating until they have done an analysis. Pretty hard to do an analysis when you don't know what the final legislation is going to be.

Secondly, mortgage backed securities where rated AAA ...how did that where out? Some AAA MBS experienced 80% default rates within 90 days of being given that rating!

Their corporate charters should be revoked.

WERE.  Repeat after me.  WERE.  Not where.

Sorry, I usually don't go anal on people for spelling but I seriously felt like I had gone full retard trying to read your post.
77  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [~5000 Gh/s] DeepBit.net PPS+Prop,instant payouts, we pay for INVALID BLOCKS too on: August 06, 2011, 03:49:16 AM
I have been noticing something weird over the last few days.  I usually keep the statistics page open to see progress and check on luck every once in awhile.  Now, I've been having a few moments where I could have sworn my BTC balance at the top right said one thing but infact said another.  Well, just a moment ago after about an hour I refresh and noticed my BTC balance dropped by .01.  And if this is infact what was happening before, there were other instances where I say my balance drop by .01 or .02.

So it leads me to ask what is going on?  Is the 3% fee taken out an hour or more later for a previous batch of rewards or something?

Strange,

Got 3 230SA's yesterday running at 900/300 on sdk 2.4 on ubuntu getting 374 on Phoenix stable at 68c avg.  I made my Amdoverdrivectrl voltage at 1.170 but I don't know if it actually overvolted.

I was able to get phoenix to work now, btw.  I don't know what it was but after a lot of driver changing and removal and reinstallation, so to speak, of mining software, it works fine.  Currently at 975core/325m 1.088v and getting 404Mh/s with phoenix phatk 2.1

Actually able to get it to 975 on stock voltage.  Still testing the limits though as I go about 12 hours of stability tests per 5 mhz increase from here.  So far I am liking these new cards.
