61  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Opinions on XRP for long term investment (BEGINNER) on: October 31, 2019, 12:36:49 PM
I would look for coins that you believe will have actual adoption. XRP probably has a good chance of being adopted widely (after what has been said by Moneygram), but it's still a long way to mass-market, and its valuation is already pretty high.
62  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Best altcoin to invest excluding ETH on: October 31, 2019, 12:33:28 PM
Why does it have to be under 1$? Isn't this simply a matter of denomination? Or do you think that the psychology of being a "penny coin" makes its potential greater?

I generally look for signs of mass adoption for investing, so I'd look into EOS, TRX, BTT, BNB, XRP, XLM and a bunch of smaller coins that can actually make their way into actual people's wallets to be used. I'm obviously excluding the tech and governance aspects here, but otoh I don't think they're extremely relevant for price development on a short- to mid-term.
63  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Why are you involved with Crypto? on: October 31, 2019, 12:27:28 PM
Well, if you ask about crypto specifically, it's gotta be something to do with value :-)

Blockchain in general makes a lot of sense in all kinds of cases where you don't want to have to trust others: no need to trust your bank to keep your funds safe, no need to trust that a contract has actually been agreed on and signed off by both parties, etc.

Most of the examples one will come up with will be related to storing and transferring value.

I'm here because I appreciate the advantages of blockchain and its impact on storing and transacting value in gaming. There's a lot that can be improved there!
64  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Best mobile crypto wallet? on: October 31, 2019, 12:22:20 PM
It strongly depends on what you wanna do with it. A wallet to store your coins safely and be able to s(p)end them? Or do you want to actually use Dapps, play games and execute smart contract functions?
65  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Is Litecoin dead? What's happening? on: October 31, 2019, 12:20:09 PM
If you mention Litecoin, can i ask about Neo? So much hope was on Neo, who can tell me what happened to NEO, Ita so sad to see NEO go so hard on the floor 😭, someday I hope it recovers one day and we all can smile

It's as with so many coins - it's a long way to actual success (or fail, for that matter). There surely will be more than one successful coin that prevails, but it's hard to tell which one.

Many people have bought into LTC, NEO and others while it was hyping, and they lost a lot of money. Back in late 2017, many prices were 99% based on speculation. If we're down to 90% speculative pricing, and not much progress has been made (in terms of actual adoption), this could mean a -90% performance since late 2017. I guess this is what many coins have been seeing.

Generally, we need a lot more adoption of crypto in the mass market for the prices to have a fundamental reason to go up.
66  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Cryptonization Fail ? on: October 31, 2019, 12:11:21 PM
There's a bunch of aspects to this:
1. Value is always based on trust - e.g. trust that you can exchange A for B. This is also true for all kinds of coins
2. One can't create new "money" which has value out of nothing. If nobody sees value in it, it won't have value
3. Tokens (at least in theory) are good at building economies. Why? Because through the token the actors in the economy can participate in a value increase of the economy through an increase of the token value

So the issue is that most coins / tokens don't really have an economy behind them. There's hardly anything (useful) that you buy with them that you couldn't buy with anything else, and they don't serve (enough) as an incentive to participate in the economy.

Btw participating in an economy typically includes SPENDING tokens. This is the biggest issue I have with pure HODLing as it does nothing to fuel the respective economy, it's only a means of "not increasing supply".

Tokens haven't failed, though. We'll see a plethora of great use cases in the long run. Unfortunately, only few of the coins currently in existance will be part of that successful future.
67  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Who is the single most influential person in Bitcoin? on: October 31, 2019, 12:03:02 PM
CZ would be my pick. Chinese and English markets know him well.

That's a pretty good pick, but I'd say he's influential over shitcoins and crypto as a whole, not Bitcoin so much.

Witness his suggestion to roll back the Bitcoin chain because Binance lost 7000 BTC or whatever it was. That shows either little to no understanding or overwhelming arrogance. And it also means his worth listening to on this subject has gone down a notch or two.

I'm still not getting the Andreas nominations. He's popular, not influential.

Is there anybody in particular who would come to your mind instead of Andreas?
68  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Who is the single most influential person in Bitcoin? on: October 31, 2019, 08:59:21 AM
Almost everyone agrees that Andreas Antonopoulos is the most influential figure in bitcoin. But I'm an additional person who
making bitcoin increasingly known throughout the world including Vitalik Buterin with his smart mind making breakthroughs
in the world crypto with his creation of ETH which is the strongest altcoins at the moment, John McAfee is also an influential
person with his prediction is quite controversial and lastly Changpeng Zhao founder of Exchanges binance amazed the crypto
world his enthusiasm makes exchanges very popular until now. That's the name of the person who in my opinion is most influential
person in bitcoin.

Yeah, Andreas has come up most. It's funny how few other names get mentioned, after all, and that all of the names (specifically including Andreas) are being debated about. I guess this is a really strong indicator for Bitcoin's decentralized governance, is it?
69  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Who is the single most influential person in Bitcoin? on: October 31, 2019, 08:55:23 AM

That being said, I'll also nominate me, Danny Hamilton, for your list  Grin (are we allowed to nominate ourselves)?

Nomination accepted.  Wink
70  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Who is the single most influential person in Bitcoin? on: October 30, 2019, 02:24:41 PM
This is subjective and can only be decided through some sort of election process if you ask me. Its like asking 'Who is the most powerful man/woman in the world?'. In my opinion, a team(Not a single person) who have in-depth knowledge of BTC and the blockchain would get my vote.

This is vital since majority of the world would probably debate against BTC which is why this would help even out the odds to some extent. People like Brian Armstrong, Chanpeng Zhao, Andreas Antonopoulos etc should be a part of such a team in my opinion.

Yeah, this is really a question asking for opinions, not looking for a truth. It's really interesting which answers come up, as obviously metrics like "Twitter followers" aren't really representative (after all, people tweet about all kinds of things, not just Bitcoin).

The lack of a centralized power (even if it was a group of people) is one of Bitcoin's biggest strengths, but at the same time some might say it's one of its biggest weaknesses, as well.

How about actually doing a mock-vote, maybe using BTC stakes?
71  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Who is the single most influential person in Bitcoin? on: October 30, 2019, 12:57:40 PM
Andreas has no influence whatsoever. He doesn't control anything. Most Bitcoin fans won't know who he is as many won't speak English. Plenty of English speakers never go anywhere near Youtube. He's very careful to never take a position on anything so clearly doesn't want any influence.

At this particular moment in time the person with the most potential influence over price, uptake and mining is probably Xi Jinping.

This is a very interesting point as we're obviously biased towards English speaking influencers. I wouldn have no idea who (apart from the Xi Jinping) would be relevant on a global scale in languages other than English. From an English-speaking community point of view the rest of the world might seem irrelevant, but it probably excludes quite a lot of people.
72  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Who is the most influential single person in Bitcoin? on: October 30, 2019, 10:16:19 AM
To date, I think it is difficult to single out one person, rather it is a group of people.

A group as in "the Bitcoin core devs" or multiple individuals who you deem have kinda equal weight?

73  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Who is the single most influential person in Bitcoin? on: October 30, 2019, 09:25:36 AM
In other words:
If you had to choose one real person to represent Bitcoin (in the public or in a debate against other crypto currency representatives), who should it be?

(It's clear that Bitcoin isn't led or represented by any single one person officially, which is what makes that question so hard to answer. It's also clear that this is feature, not a bug!)

hmm, ill join discord , this MIGHT end up being something...
when i saw "proof of clash" i thought of clash of clans right away haha, great game Cheesy
the website looks super 90's, i LIKE it, it was obviously done on purpose?

Good Luck moving forward!

Awesome, feel free to join anytime! - As "Proof-Of-Clash" was meant as a little joke to push Chain Clash, we are glad that you got it right!
PS Yes, the Win95 look of the website was done on purpose. First of all, we love the '90s and second of all was Win95 a pioneer just like "Proof-Of-Clash" could have been if it was real.

See you on discord, and make sure to mention that you came from Bitcointalk because you might get a virtual cake for that Wink
