61  Economy / Speculation / Re: And after this profitable sell-off, this is probably the bottom on: August 18, 2014, 10:51:02 AM
Soon we will know if the bottom is real or if we are gonna go below, if we have another long leg down it's gonna get incredibly bearish  .-.

If it goes down, next bounce will probably be at $450 at bitstamp. The trend line I showed in the first post is actually there at Bitstamp, whereas it's higher on Bitfinex and Huobi.

The price action on altcoin looks like there is a liquidity crisis. Bitcoin will certainly be affected to certain extend.
62  Economy / Speculation / Re: And after this profitable sell-off, this is probably the bottom on: August 17, 2014, 11:44:09 AM
Strong resistance at 470 for the short term bottom price. Longer term, no one know for sure.
63  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: questions about antminer on: August 17, 2014, 11:41:17 AM
Someone told me not to buy it because you have to know how to read Chinese....

Is this is true?

Not true, you can to buy it, but you will lose to much from that.

This. You will lose money buying antminer.
64  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Mining on: August 16, 2014, 08:55:46 AM
Can I use 1 Block Erupter 336Mh / s + 1 Block Erupter 1.6Gh / s. The mining rate is the sum of the two. Can I use the two together? Roll Eyes

You can certainly do that. But you should take ROI into consideration when buying ASIC miners.
65  Economy / Speculation / Re: Should i cash out or not? on: August 16, 2014, 08:54:21 AM
Bitcoin is a zero-sum game and you most likely won’t win.

According my predictions, $200~$300 are expected, but it will take a bit time b/c $500, $450, $400 etc. will be tested for several days. I could be wrong of course, but my predictions have always been right so far.

You have any track record to back up your proof for past performance? While I think the correction is not yet over, I wouldn't go as far as calling 200-300 to be the price target.

If we go below the 400, the next stop level will be the 200's or below, according to the graph. It is too soon to panic about that, and I myself think it is not much likely to happen, but it is feasible.

@OP: if you think we going down, them sell and wait the bottom, then we rise again you see what you do. The graphs tell us that the bottom level must be below the 450 levels, but something the graphs may tell us false things, so make your own decision.

I will buy some up at 200 if it ever reach that price within the next 3 months.
66  Economy / Speculation / Re: Do You now something about bitcoin price? on: August 15, 2014, 07:49:56 AM
I'm not an expert at all but I doubt that bitfinex could have influenced this (small) crash.

It did.

The cascading sold off to around 450 was due to either margin call or big whale closing out his long position.
67  Economy / Economics / Re: Is Argentina the cyprus of 2014? on: August 15, 2014, 07:47:54 AM
Argentina could print pesos to buy dollars to pay back their debts. As they sell more pesos, the value of each peso would decrease so the more they print the less dollars they can buy on a per peso basis.

No country has managed to mint its way out of a crisis.

May be they shoud try with cryptocurrencies. Cheesy

I don't think this would be possible. You cannot "mint" cryptos out of thing air. You must first make an investment (buy an ASIC(s)). If you are referring to them creating some kind of altcoin with coins premined then this would also make no sense as it would be unlikely that there would be any kind of demand for this (there is little demand for most alts).
I think most altcoins see "hyperinflation" in their value, that is see their value tumble as people realize that the alt has no value that bitcoin cannot provide.

Even if they do come out with altcoins, its credibility would be linked to the Argentinian government. You would probably see hyperinflation in these altcoins too. Wink
I think that most altcoins experience hyperinflation as more people realize that they cannot offer any thing of value so people sell the coins. This results in the price of the altcoin more or less crashing.

Altcoins have no value to begin with. This is just the dump phase rather than "hyperinflation".

68  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin gets bit by a summertime swoon on: August 14, 2014, 12:54:16 PM
I blame ethereum

The initial sell off is due to Ethereum.

The following sell off is due to technical traders.

And the panic sell off is due to margin call.
69  Economy / Speculation / Re: The final bear trap on: August 14, 2014, 12:51:46 PM
Final correction to weed out the weak hand before we rally to the moon.
70  Economy / Economics / Re: How much do you value your credit score? on: August 14, 2014, 04:42:31 AM
Credit score has little value if you don't plan on borrowing money from bank.
This is technically true, however most people do not have the resources to never have to borrow from the bank, especially during their earlier years (prior to turning 45ish). When people get older they will have to rely less on bank loans, but they still may need one in case of an emergency (unemployment, medical expenses among other things).

yep older....had a student loan i paid off ..so when I got my house around 2000 after the dot com crash of stock market then pres Bush the jr...got us into IRAQ...EVERYONE
was telling me to get into stocks at that point...sorry ....so I looked around and figured screw it pay the house off from 2000...who is gonna give me the equiv of a 650/m raise (NET) would be closer to 1K raise in the next few years....paid if off in 7 years months before the stock crash /great recession

good thing I did or I'd of had to keep a 2nd job for the house payments...now no debt ..just house utils ...no cc debt (amex have to pay it off each month) so that $650
house payment is gone ...of course some of that goes into the house but I can use 'denial' on that heh Smiley

Searing
If you now have no debt, and no housing payment (expect for taxes and insurance) it would be advisable to invest more money into investments (be it stocks, bonds, traditional savings accounts, or other types of investments) so you can save for a "rainy day" and for retirement. You likely do not want to be working up until you die and when you do stop working you want to be able to live comfortably. This is likely the same advice that you would receive if you were to speak to any financial adviser or financial planner.
When you have no debt like this your credit score will likely suffer and it will be hard to get credit when you really need it. Even if you have sufficient assets today you never know what tomorrow will bring to you financially.

It is kind of a paradox of how the credit system work. Normally, people who have asset and no debt should have higher credit score.
71  Economy / Speculation / Re: This Bitfinex Credit Bubble cannot end well on: August 14, 2014, 04:40:50 AM
29.5 million.

Saw it went down to 27M and then back to 28.9M.
72  Economy / Speculation / Re: This Bitfinex Credit Bubble cannot end well on: August 13, 2014, 09:01:34 AM
Bitfinex give us a lot of nice numbers to work with. The rest of the exchanges don't and it is hard to make a good guess.

That's my main trouble with putting too much into Bitfinex's numbers. I don't see them as a driver of this market at all. They follow China to the tee pretty much, so I'd be much more interested to see numbers on Okcoin and BitVC/Huobi. Bitfinex calls may make us wick down, but I doubt they would drive the rest of the market down.

China is a huge market despite government banning the bank from servicing bitcoin related business. You can still gauge the sentiment of bitcoin in China using the price on bitfinex.

the price on bitfinex, sure, but how about the swaps? that is what this thread is about.

They send out an email on changing certain rules on margin. Not sure I truly understand the implication.

If someone want to put it in layman term, it will be truly appreciated.
73  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Let's close ANN-section for 14 days to calm down the crazy? on: August 13, 2014, 08:59:13 AM
Closing ANN section doesn't solve the fundamental problem of human greed.
74  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What businesses does Bitcoin need? on: August 13, 2014, 08:58:09 AM
Just need more retail giant to accept bitcoin.

There is already infrastructure in place to process any payment.

76  Economy / Speculation / Re: today's price drop related to OKcoin futures? on: August 12, 2014, 09:29:11 AM
I wonder whether the price drop today (around $590 to $570 in the past few hours) could be related to the nascent OKcoin futures market. My thought process is that the availability of bitcoin futures has the same effect as increasing the supply of bitcoins. Or to think of it differently, it has the same effect as decreasing the demand of actual bitcoins: instead of buying a real bitcoin today, I might decide to buy bitcoin futures (however many units is equivalent to one bitcoin) instead.

If the volume of trading on the futures market shot up today, that would support my hypothesis, although I don't know whether OKcoin publishes that data. (Currently available settlement dates, btw, are 8/15, 8/22, and 8/29. I presume more will open up if all goes well during the initial beta testing period.)

(An alternate explanation for the price drop is that it is because of news reports that the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau put out a warning on bitcoin today. The timing seems to fit. Although I don't know why this would have a big effect on price, except for the fact that it seems to have been picked up by about a million different news agencies.)

Thoughts?

i told you bitcoin is going to nowhere but down! a big crash incoming!
there is no raise, you can only see drops following drops and final capitulation crash
Fallling, where is the technical analysis?

He is just doing wild guess and happen to be right at this moment.
77  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Best signature campaign for "member" rank? on: August 12, 2014, 07:52:44 AM
Primedice is great, 0.0006 per post, if you can post a lot you get a lot!

From I can see primedice has the biggest campaign here? Are they paying out regulary? and is it weekly or monthly?

The payments are monthly and they pay per post but probably this is the last month with the current rate.

Yeah, I guess he intends to switch to a flat monthly payout amount, to which you're qualified when you post a certain number of posts, I guess. but he hasn't decided on the exact rates, as far as I know! Does anyone know what those rates will look like?

I was browsing through his posts and the main thread and couldn't find anything about this. Did he say when this would go into effect? I actually prefer a flat monthly payout myself. Smiley

Flat rate is better for forum also. Lots of people here posting useless information just for the paid.

For personal stuffs, stand alone storage like usb thumb drive is still better than cloud storage.
79  Economy / Speculation / Re: How high will the next bubble go? on: August 11, 2014, 07:44:23 AM
We are waiting already for a really long time for the next bubble. I think it will be a crazy one with spikes up to 12k $ and then going back to ~7k $ until the next world economy crisies arrives and pushes us to higher limits.

Somewhere in 2018-2020. I don't think we'll go past 700 this year again.

Still 4 more months in 2014. And the ETF will start trading in Nov/Dec.
80  Other / Politics & Society / Re: The Celebrity Trend on: August 11, 2014, 07:41:49 AM
Is the notion of celebrity as we know it now different from 20+ years ago ?  (I remember a time when we didnt have nearly as many non "talented" famous people. )  Maybe the only thing that has changed is communication platforms ?

Is the celebrity trend growing, plateau or sinking?

What year approx will non "talented" people no longer have huge fan bases?

I won't call celebrity that has millions of mindless followers no talent. They have the talent that make many followers spend countless of hours watching their movies and listening to their songs.
