61  Economy / Goods / Re: Laser Engraved Bitcoin/Litecoin Cards (Public ID and BIP38 encrypted cards) on: June 11, 2014, 09:40:12 PM
One last thing that concerns me about these...  Assuming you have to extract funds from one of these cards, it wouldn't be completely trustworthy to continue to reuse these cards, correct?  I mean, if the whole point of the card is for cold storage then after you had to sweep the funds into a different wallet you would have posted your private key into whatever application you used, correct?  This means that after I sweep the funds into my alternate wallet I should destroy this card or never use it again for cold storage... correct?

Yes that would be the safest way to use these.

Thanks everyone! Smiley

Just posting my BTC wallet address to make sure my account is recoverable in case it is ever hijacked. Advise anyone else who hasn't posted a wallet address that they own yet to do so to protect their account.

63  Economy / Currency exchange / Re: Selling one bitcoin for paypal on: June 11, 2014, 08:44:02 PM
I don't understand.. 99% of the threads started involving Paypal never complete a trade or someone gets scammed. Why don't we just ban the use of Paypal on these forums?

We should, I have never been a fan of paypal ever since they froze my account with 2500€ in it for no apparent reason. It's been 6 months now and I still don't have access to my funds.

If you file suit against them, they usually return the money immediately rather than deal with the court process.
64  Economy / Currency exchange / Re: Purchased Bitcoin (Recommended Seller) on: June 11, 2014, 03:43:54 AM
As a newbie with one post I really don't think anyone is prepared to sell Bitcoin via PayPal. Hell I'm finding a hard time getting sellers via PayPal and western union and I've been around for some time now with a good enough rep.

If he paid with Western Union, wouldn't that be a safe transaction for the seller?
65  Economy / Currency exchange / Re: Purchased Bitcoin (Recommended Seller) on: June 11, 2014, 02:44:08 AM
Is it just me or does this post not make any sense?

I think he's looking to purchase bitcoin and is asking for a recommended seller....or I might be completely wrong. Smiley
66  Economy / Currency exchange / Re: Purchased Bitcoin (Recommended Seller) on: June 11, 2014, 12:54:33 AM
This belongs in the currency exchange section. Hopefully a mod will move it there. You can also join irc.freenode.net and post in the #bitcoin-otc channel for buying/selling.

69  Economy / Computer hardware / [WTS] BULK PCIe Risers 1x - 16x Powered Cables (Brand New) on: June 09, 2014, 08:01:03 PM
Hi guys,

I am looking to sell 400 PCIe Riser Cables. These are all brand new, come sealed in individual anti-static bags.

Looking to sell them for cheap. I will cover shipping in the US, and if you're international, we can discuss that too.

Hoping someone can take all 400, not looking to sell them individually.

Make me an offer if you're interested -- the worst I can say is no thank you.

More than happy to do escrow!

Thanks everyone!  Smiley

70  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: bitcoin-qt/bitcoind - Calculating raw transaction fees! on: June 09, 2014, 02:10:42 AM
Even if you use the settxfee command to set the fee to 0, it does not respect that setting.

AFAIK the transaction fee in Bitcoin-qt/Bitcoin Core is the additional optional fee, but there's already a hard-coded set of rules in the program that determine fees, which can't be turned off.
71  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Should I buy a USB miner? I get free electricity... on: June 08, 2014, 06:54:19 PM
Another vote for spending the money you would spend on buying miners and just buy BTC directly.

Maybe even buy some for your parents and set them up with a wallet! Smiley
72  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Crypto Cards on: June 08, 2014, 06:29:42 PM
Did you see the wooden ones someone is making? They look amazing. And they are more durable than you think.

Yep, the wooden ones by advanced are very nice!
73  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Crypto Cards on: June 08, 2014, 03:39:26 PM
Yeah they dont look too great. A nice crypto card would probably be a big hit and can help takle btc into the mainstream.

No advertising, but isn't it look cool ?

It's made from Stainless Steel. Really like to buy one, but i'm afraid with international shipping Cheesy

I like the idea that its made from stainless steel, but IMO even this design sucks.

Really need to hire a designer to make these. They just look too amateurish.
74  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Crypto Cards on: June 08, 2014, 09:06:51 AM
I like the idea of a cold storage card but I think the design of these at Crypto Cards is just awful.

They really should hire a designer to clean up the look of their cards and make them look nicer and they'd have a real winner.
75  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: (WTS) GPU Mining Rigs on: June 08, 2014, 05:49:59 AM
Nice rigs, good luck with your sale OP! Smiley

BTW, what are you mining with them right now? Maybe give X11 a try -- lowers power consumption and temperatures, which is perfect for summer.
76  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: WTB Raspberry Pi on: June 08, 2014, 05:30:57 AM
They sell them on ebay for a better price.. then here  Smiley

OP might be looking to pay in BTC though...
77  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: 796.com Bitcoin exchange just stole $40 from my account. They refuse to respond. on: June 08, 2014, 03:25:59 AM
Sorry about your loss but thank you for doing your part and reporting this to the community!
78  Economy / Gambling / Re: New Way to Earn `BTC` on: June 08, 2014, 01:06:01 AM
The thing that he is trying to explain is used by Old Aunties and Women in pakistan who are very bored and have nothing better then to sit together and have coffee. They pool money together every month and then once a month the money is given to the member of the Committee not KAMETI or whatever concept this guy is trying to come up with.
Its actually pointless as its just a saving mechanism and nothing else. So every month a bored, usually fat and uneducated aunty gives money to a nominated member who usually scams others and gives the saving to the person they like. This way the people close to the member get thier savings first and others towards the end.
THis is not a ponzi, pyramid or any scam. Its just plain as stupid and costs more when you end up paying for coffee.
Its better to put and amount of money under your pillow and after some time take the money and use it.

Like i said, its just funny to read what he wrote and how he explained it otherwise i wouldnt be even bothered to reply to his post.

Regards

Duke

This thread has so much fail but you're the only person who properly understood what OP was talking about and explained it properly. Props to you.

And I agree, there's no point to it. Just save the money yourself. The only benefit of the Committee system in Pakistan (when done fairly) is that if you need to make a large purchase sooner than later, it serves as a good interest free loan system without the need of some bank. You rely on your community to help you out.

80  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: What is the best way to use BTC to get cash from a ATM on: June 07, 2014, 11:08:03 PM
Thanks guys!

I will be looking into face to face btc transaction with the locals in Portland or Seattle as I live between the two.

Jerry

You can also have someone do a cash deposit into your bank account and then release the BTC to them via localbitcoins' online escrow system. Makes it safer in that you don't have to meet up with someone face to face and both buyer and seller are still protected.
