You should stop mining with your laptop. You're taking the risk of overheating it. And mining with a GPU is not cost effective anymore. You're paying more in electricity than you are producing coins.
62  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: can i run an asic on battery? on: September 19, 2014, 08:37:52 AM
can you provide some links with reading materials .
im a bit worried about the " clean power " part. what happens if the power isnt clean and what could be the cause of that. how to avoid it .
thank you .
Nah, a big part of the fun is figuring it out yourself.
Enjoy!
63  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: can i run an asic on battery? on: September 19, 2014, 08:30:01 AM
exactly sir im using 2 solar panels  . each provide max output of 240 W /  one miner.
will it work or will it fry?
Like I said, read more about setting it up that way.
As long as you get a nice clean 12V DC out of your solar panel + battery + ... setup and feeding it into the miner, it will work.
64  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: can i run an asic on battery? on: September 19, 2014, 08:25:03 AM
Wild idea : i have a 12 V , 160 AH gel battery. can i hook a antminer s3 directly to it ? will it fry ? will it work ?
the idea is to find a workaround the psu . what else would i need to deliver stable power without a psu.

V= Volts .

AH = amps / hour .

In theory: An S3 is around 340W. So that's 340W/12V=28A. You have 160AH, so it will run for 5.7hrs.

Then what ?

Have a look at solar panels in combination with your gel battery.

Oh wow that is really a lot i never saw this scam before !
Neither did I, that's why I posted this alert.
66  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: DO NOT SEND PACKAGES WITH TRANSPORT INITIATED BY RECEIVER on: September 18, 2014, 11:04:03 AM
How much was the sending cost if ups pay a laywer for a such small ammount then they are dump
They are charging me over us$300 for a package that weight a few pounds and was shipped from the Netherlands to the USA.
67  Economy / Scam Accusations / DO NOT SEND PACKAGES WITH TRANSPORT INITIATED BY RECEIVER on: September 18, 2014, 06:48:12 AM
I have been scammed by an eBay buyer in a way I have never seen before.
He had arranged the shipment via UPS, I only had to bring it to a local UPS depot.

UPS billed him, but then he refused to pay the shipment invoice, so UPS send me the shipment bill. According to their small print, I am obliged to pay, which I am refusing. UPS already approached a lawyer and they will start a lawsuit.

Don't make the same mistake I did. Just let the buyer pay for your goods including the cost of shipment and arrange the shipment yourself.

@kncminer And what happens to the GHs not sold ? https://www.kncminer.com/pages/faq  "We will not mine with more than 5% of the hash rate we sell"

I know that you are not expecting a reply from KnC so I will try to answer you. Technically once they sell the hashrate they don't mine with it so they are within that statement.

Of course there is mining that is happening since Feb/March, but they don't care. FU Sam Cole and FU whole KnC team (except maybe Markus).
Yeah, but what happens with the hash rate before it is "sold" ?
I bet you only need one guess.

Do they need to be version 2. I have a bag full of desoldered bitfury chips (mostly Rev.1) that I intended to remount on some h cards but never got to it since the power circuit was like 10$ a pop. I'll count the nber and PM You
Thanks for the offer, but I need new V2 chips.
71  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: [WTB] Bitfury V2 chips on: August 26, 2014, 05:43:13 AM
PM me too.

I'm thinking straight up miners.

You got a PCB board? Everything?

I want in on what you're doin Cheesy

Patience is a virtue Wink
An announcement will be made when I have the prototype hashing.
72  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: [WTB] Bitfury V2 chips on: August 26, 2014, 05:23:43 AM
I am looking for Bitfury V2 chips.

I am offering US$0.20/GH, so for example 32 chips * 3.8 GH/s * 0,20 = US$24.32. (I know not many of these chips reach 3.8 GH/s, but it's the official number and as such used for price calculation only).

If you don't like the price I am offering:
1. KnC is selling their chips for US$0.15/GH (https://www.kncminer.com/products/knc-28nm-sha256-processor)
2. you can always send me a PM with your asking price and the number of chips you want to sell.

I'll arrange the shipment, you just need to give me the address of the closest FedEx drop-off and bring it there.

You could also buy the minion bare asic for 40 bucks at Minersource.net

It's .40 cents per GH and hashes around 100-120 gh.

You making USB miners?
Nope, think bigger

77  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: minepeon help on: August 12, 2014, 07:04:13 PM
If you want to run another version of cgminer, you can use the following instructions (I used it a while ago for the
 OneStringMiner board, so you might need to activate other ASICS with --enable-xxx):

# Log in to minepeon
$ cd /opt/minepeon
$ mkdir src
$ cd src
$ wget http://ck.kolivas.org/apps/cgminer/4.3/cgminer-4.3.5.tar.bz2
$ bunzip2 cgminer-4.3.5.tar.bz2 | tar xvf -
$ cd cgminer-4.3.5
$ ./configure --enable-bitfury
$  make
$  sudo rm /opt/minepeon/bin/cgminer-old
# you could get an message that cgminer-old doesn’t exist, you can ignore this
$  sudo ln /opt/minepeon/bin/cgminer /opt/minepeon/bin/cgminer-old
$  sudo rm /opt/minepeon/bin/cgminer
$  sudo cp cgminer /opt/minepeon/bin/
$ screen -r
# stop the running cgminer by pressing the letter q (this is still the old cgminer running)
# wait 30 seconds to allow cgminer to restarted or start top and wait for cgminer to appear; quit top and continue
$ screen -r
# You should now see cgminer 4.3.5
# Press ctrl-A D to get back to the shell prompt
$ exit
78  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: IN STOCK - OneStringMiner boards, up to 39GH/s, FIRE SALE: MAKE A BID on: July 25, 2014, 06:20:17 AM
can you point me in the direction of the  latest FW for these guys and a manual to update. I have 5 boards total and am migrating to bfgminer. It can detect all 5 but three of them present a very long timeout that prevents them from initializing.
It might be a better idea to copy the firmware of one of the two boards that work ok and write that to the 3 other boards.
Get a separate PC/laptop(or disconnect everything) and connect the USB cable to one of the two 'good' boards.

1. short the ISP pins/holes on the board
2. apply power to the board or short the reset pins/holes on the board for a moment if you already connected the power
3. the board should present itself to your OS as a storage device, containing 1 file: firmware.bin.
4. copy this file to your local disk as a binary file
5. disconnect the board and get one of the three boards
6. connect the USB cable
7. short the ISP pins/holes on the board
8. apply power to the board or short the reset pins/holes on the board for a moment if you already connected the power
9. the board should present itself to your OS as a storage device, containing 1 file: firmware.bin.
10. now comes the tricky part: you need to overwrite firmware.bin with the firmware.bin you saved
problem is, the file is 32kB and there is only 32kB available. So you need to overwrite the file in place. The delete/remove command is not supported by the disk device driver.
I use Linux and this is the command I use:

mcopy -o -i /dev/disk/by-id/usb-NXP_LPC1XXX_IFLASH_ISP-0:0 firmware.bin ::;umount /dev/disk/by-id/usb-NXP_LPC1XXX_IFLASH_ISP-0:0

I dont know if its differences in FW since they may be from different batches by looking at the serial numbers.
All boards sold are from the same batch with the same design.

Just want to share my opinion about these boards; they rock! Got a DIY1 and DIY2 for about two weeks and i'm very happy with them. Best mining investment i've done so far. Very stable, quiet, easy to assemble and the build quality is really high.

One little question; does anybody know the cgminer config setting or parameter to control the fan speed? It is very quiet, but i believe it still can miss a couple of RPM's Smiley

Thanks for your compliments. The fan is not speed controlled, the hardware has no circuitry for it. If you want the fan to spin slower, buy a fan with a lower rpm spec.

It's a nice sunny day here in Holland, so I am in a good mood Wink and lowered the prices.
Still too much for people looking for a quick ROI, but good for people in it for the long run with these power sipping boards.

If you order at least 10 of a mix (or 10 the same) of the products below, these are the prices a piece including shipment:

Product   #boards   GH/s   outside EU price in $   price including VAT inside EU   price excluding VAT for business owners
DIY   1   25+   $59.99   €53.64   €44.33
DIY0   1   25+   $64.99   €58.11   €48.03
DIY1   1   30+   $74.99   €67.05   €55.42
DIY2   2   60+   $139.99   €125.18   €103.45

If paid in BTC(https://bitpay.com/bitcoin-exchange-rates) we ship the same or next business day.
Bank transfer is possible, but takes longer.

FedEx is handling the shipment.
In exceptional cases I might have to charge you extra to pay part of the shipment cost.

Please keep in mind that the heat sinks are heavy so the shipment cost(included in the prices above) is higher.

You can still make me an offer.
