Regarding some e-mails & PMs:

  • You can send offer to my e-mail but I don't accept any offers after the auction ends
  • Ad will start displaying as soon as I receive the payment and will be displayed for 31 days
63  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: bitcoinity.org/markets - live bitcoin price charts on: May 10, 2013, 08:35:12 PM
Isn't that the purpose of this forum? Smiley

Well it surely is a nice fallback Smiley

I added some sound notifications, you can find them in preferences. Explanation regarding them could probably use some better english, but I hope you'll get the idea.
64  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: bitcoinity.org/markets - live bitcoin price charts on: May 09, 2013, 04:42:04 PM
Depth chart has been frozen for about 12 hours.

Thanks and sorry. I need to add some monitoring for this too. (it's fixed now)
65  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: bitcoinity.org/markets - live bitcoin price charts on: May 08, 2013, 07:18:26 PM
Hey, why did GBP get buried?

It might not be traded much but they are some of us who at least like to keep an eye on it Smiley

You did it. Thanks! Smiley

I actually did nothing. Currencies links are generated every 24h based on their trading volume.

You can always click "more" or bookmark the link to your favorite currency/exchange pair.

67  Economy / Auctions / Bitcoinity hosting sponsoring on: May 07, 2013, 02:58:34 PM
I'm looking for a hosting sponsor for bitcoinity for a month.

Your company name will be visible under the page title in a form like this:

"Hosting sponsored by [COMPANY NAME]"

where [COMPANY NAME] is the name of your service linking to your site. Auction will last for exactly 5 days starting at the time this post was made.

Bids should be multiplications of 0.1 BTC. I reserve the right to exclude from auction any service that I don't find apropriate. Your post should include price, company name, and destination url, like this:

0.1 FooCompany http://example.com

Site has currently ~100K visitors daily (depending on price fluctuation)

How about using the same (neutral) colour above and below the line, since it's just a trading band?

Possible, but probably doesn't look as cool Wink

ie. do they "show you maximum bid and minimum ask" or "show you maximum and minimum traded prices"?

They don't show spread. They show minimum and maximum price at which trades took place in given time.

Market depth hint issues should be fixed now (you need to refresh).

Wouldn't it make more sense to have the yellow line show the timeframe's vwap?

Yeah, that's how it should be. Altough with red/green shadows I added it will be a bit weird, because if vwap will be higher in given timespan there would be more red and less green (which seems a bit counter-intuitive). Maybe I should just switch red with green there (but red for higher values?) I'll think about it.

This is caused by different resolution of chart when you load graph the first time and then when it gets updated. Obviously a bug, although I'm still unsure which version to choose. This one on the left has more points on the chart, but to me personalty version on the right seems more clear even though it has less data points. Making decisions is so hard.

There's bitcix.com as well.

You'll find tons of other places with list of ticker sites so I'll appreciate not making this thread one of them.

Yes, I'm under ddos, I'm doing what I can.
71  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: bitcoinity.org/markets - live bitcoin price charts on: April 14, 2013, 06:51:32 PM
Some updates:

  • gox lag displayed in minutes when it's over 60s
  • hardcore mode is back http://bitcoinity.org/markets/hardcore - not really useful but it looks fun
  • added option in preferences to set mtgox lag to be permamently on or completely off
  • min and max values are shown on the price chart as red/green shadows
  • better tooltips for depth chart that also display USD value
  • CampBX added
  • total volume of exchanges comparison http://bitcoinity.org/markets/list
  • AUD currency added for mtgox

I would add bitcoin-central but I can't even find where do they provide list of last trades.

I collect gox lags and may add some simple chart displaying it (like http://bitcoinity.org/charts/gold ) when I find some time.

Regarding mtgox API url, I was using http://data.mtgox.com/code/data/getTrades.php because back when I tested it was most up to date. It seems that now https://data.mtgox.com/api/1/BTCUSD/trades is updated much more often.

And again, thanks for paying for my whiskey and all the feedback.

My eyes are getting a bit better so I'm going back to my day job, so probably there won't be too many updates anytime soon.

Also, we hit 14k+ connected users, server is definitely not bored Smiley

Yo!  Comboy.  I'm in a giving mood and have been deferring paying my due until BTC were worth more.  Now I'm ready, but I want to double-confirm that the addy on the web site is not hooked to Instawallet or something silly like that first.  Have not seen you on (this thread) for a while.

I only use good old fashioned original client.

Ah, 'the few, the proud'.  I didn't notice the vanity.  One sent.  I use the 'bad' old fashioned client.  Probably hard on the network, but I think I built it just after one of the most unpleasant of network behavior bugs.  I only fired it up recently after a year (or more) of down-time.

BTW, did you put an Easter-egg in when the price hit $200/BTC?  I was sleeping soundly when I was awakened by a song coming from my computer going something like "Money makes the world go around, world go around, world go around.  moneymoneymoneymoney...".  That's why I woke up.  It quit right when I un-did my screen lock.  I've got about 1000 browser tabs going so it could be a lot of things.  It got me paranoid though.  I need to switch back to running anything important on a headless dedicated machine again.  (Probably should be better about turning down Bitcoinity when I'm sleeping to.)

Thanks a lot! Whole round bitcoin is really nice to have these days Smiley

Apologies to you and all others scared by the video.

There's http://bitcoinity.org/markets/btcchina/CNY and more exchange/currency pairs coming soon.

Scrollbar appearing when there's gox lag should be fixed now.

And if you are experiencing some realtime updates issues at the moment, I'm sorry (hit refresh), this should hopefully be fixed within a day, I'm upgrading to gbit connection and possibly also bumping hardware (although, seriously, you are going to stop watching this price any time now, right?)
73  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: bitcoinity.org/markets - live bitcoin price charts on: April 09, 2013, 06:33:45 AM
  • fixed timezone issue
  • less people should have problem connecting
  • buy/sell changed to bid/ask, and yes sometimes ticker and market depth are lagging compared to trades on mtgox
  • full depth is now available for other mtgox currencies too

Market depth is fetched in "shots" from mtgox. I'll try to make it updated in realtime (as an option), but I'm afraid most users may not like that it will make site more cpu intensive.

74  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Why Litecoin? on: April 05, 2013, 12:11:40 AM
My logic:

Assuming LTC is superior to BTC, then if LTC succeeds, then after some time there will be yet another cryptocoin superior to LTC. And we'll be switching between those, maybe even  using some common API and reusing most of the software. This would however mean that you cannot use cryptocoins for value storage, and you still have to hide your silver if you don't want gov to steal money from your bank account.

Bitcoin can be used as a value storage and it can have tons of abstractions above, enabling it to have instant transactions. There is no way I'm waiting 5 seconds for any confirmations when buying something in the future. Decentralization is expensive, and even for light it takes more than 100ms to go around the earth (global currency). So my bet is whatever the winning cryptocoin would be, there will still be many centralized payment processors on top. And since we would have them, confirmation time would not be that crucial.

75  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: bitcoinity.org/markets - live bitcoin price charts on: April 04, 2013, 11:28:43 AM
I added connected users count in the footer.

Also there are some new exchanges, including cavirtex (still waiting for some reply from them to get  historical data). You can view them at http://bitcoinity.org/markets/list I'll add links on the main site soon, I probably need to reorganize it a bit.

Before other mentioned things, I'm focusing first on fixing connection issues that that happens for ~3% of users, and then I guess it would be nice to finally fix that timezone.

Regarding crazy bars, I suppose colors may be confusing sometimes when price changes fast, you can always ignore them and just look at bars height and direction. Order book improvements are hopefully coming soon also.

Thanks for all bug reports, suggestions and donations, and sorry if I did not respond to some. I do put everything on my todo list, it's just that lately scaling issues took some of my dev time (7.5k connected users yesterday, woo hoo).

I think your domain name expired...

Just got that news from reddit. I must admit, it feels pretty lame.

I just renewed it, I hope my request to renew succeeds before somebody's else registration Wink Thanks for info.

And while I'm typing, thanks for all feedback and donations (like seriously, really really thanks). I'll post some more detailed replies with probably some updates later (because stuff).
77  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin and me (Hal Finney) on: March 19, 2013, 11:55:52 PM
Hal, you are awesome.

I'm truly grateful for sharing this story.
78  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: bitcoinity.org/markets - live bitcoin price charts on: March 16, 2013, 10:34:30 AM
right now your site hasnt been updating the bottom chart. it simply makes it went i load the page but after that doesnt ever update it. so the price for example is at 43.9 but the chart of bids/asks shows it at 45

This and some server errors were fixed right away. Thanks for letting me know, and sorry for the problem.

Sorry for lack of updates, I still have some small health issues that are stopping me form spending as much time coding as I would like to.

And thanks very much for all donations, in this month they could actually cover hosting costs, but I'm spending them on Jack Daniels anyway.
79  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: BLOCKCHAIN.info Wallets in Danger!!! on: March 11, 2013, 05:03:16 PM
It's also worth noting that if somebody would broke onto blockchain.info server he could modify the form so that all passwords are sent to the server. So your wallet security still pretty much depends on the server security.

I really love the styling on the site! And how do you pay for everything without any ads or a subscription model? I'd gladly pay for a standalone version (a gnome js app would be incredible) -- until then, I'll just send you a tip.

A couple suggestions (that Clark Moody does well):
  • Sound alerts for big price moves / order sizes.
  • A dynamic order book.

Sound alerts are coming, we'll see about dynamic order book.

I pay from my own pocket, currently with 1k+ users connected at the same time pushing data is becoming a bit more expensive, but I don't like ads.

HI, ... in my signature solves exactly this problem. It separates not only order book bids and asks, but also trades.

Interesting choice of CSS styling on your Order Book, by the way  Wink

Writing logic is cool, but these f*** colors Wink
