61  Local / Nigeria (Naija) / Re: Government Really Value Our NYSC? on: October 04, 2023, 10:33:14 PM
Fortunately for everyone wey go school reach university level, come finish, NYSC na compulsory. Unless say you don pass or dey the age of about 31 and above or get some kind issues, before them go fit allow you exempt yourself from service.
Egypt own national service na almost 3years naw. Our own na just 1. Even if say you no go fit do the whole 1year, that 3weeks for camp na another experience wey person no suppose miss as long as say na Nigerian university you finish from and you stay the country grow up.

God go do am make Dem release the abducted corps members. Na just make every one wey dey go serve learn safety tips of being of plain cloths wen travelling to and fro place of service/posting, at least travel in a pair, stay online and keep communication and trackers open.
Unless say you plan to branch go somewhere else, stay enroute, move in the day, stay awake and alert and pray.
62  Local / Nigeria (Naija) / Re: Our naira no follow again on: October 04, 2023, 10:23:07 PM
This topic is just on point because I was just discussing with a close friend today on how the Naira is almost becoming useless to spend and even save. We were thinking the rates would fall with a new government in power, but it seems like the old belief of whatever price goes up in this country hardly falls.
It's not funny really, and to think that the increment in minimum wage would do good, the question is how many people will get the palliative to assist survival in this tide of high dollar prices and interest rates?
63  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Let fear to lose be motivation to learn on: October 04, 2023, 10:17:06 PM
My motivation happen to be the fear of begging for food. I Find myself in a land where I hardly speak the local dialect and can sometimes find it hard to relate with the indigenous natives of the land.
Where it is worse is having to go hungry or broke without anyone even noticing. I had to take my chance with this forum and cryptocurrency in general to better understand financial independence and control of my funds.
For me, that's been my motivation. To be independent and financially capable of solving my own challenges and bills without begging for arms or food to survive.
64  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Do I need a mentor in my bitcoin journey. on: October 04, 2023, 10:13:24 PM
It's good to have mentors mostly when it has to do with the path on which one is travelling.
A mentor could be anyone who has gone farther than where one is and is like a guide and standard to be followed.
If you think you can learn on your own without any help, as long as this forum exist, I believe you can get answers to any questions regarding BTC and you will get good answers to point you in the right direction.
65  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Notification that you should never click on: October 02, 2023, 01:33:25 PM
I have often by mistake but mostly out of curiosity clicked on such kinds of notifications when I try to visit a site, mostly when it is a movie site for downloading movies or news channels.
It didn't take me long to figure out that these are fake sites that scammers or hackers use to gain access into unsuspecting device.

I had to enable ad block and also learnt to patiently wait for such pop ups to show skip ad or cancel buttons before proceeding, so as not to open or give access to the site's intrusion.
66  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: HODL is purely a mental challenge on: October 02, 2023, 01:27:51 PM
Let's be realistic and keep grammers aside it's ain't easy to hold for a very long period of years, except there's any HODLer here that will say he he is with no any financial challenges for over the years like in the past 5-10years and hasn't tampered a bit with his HODLing. The mental strength in HODLing is not in a HODLer not taking a profit from his long time HODLing buy him not completely selling it all out of fear or due to a little too up profit made. I would rather be that HODLer that can be taking a little profit from my HODLing to meet my financial challenge while I still DCA when am able to.
Yeah I think many of us are actually class in that category of holders that do such. I even praise those that were able to achieve such high level of holding,  I mean it's definitely not easy not to temper with your coins because challenges always come although it's advice that a holder needs to have a sufficient means of living so that the thought of tempering with his coins will be at a minimal but even at that I can still say this holding game is still not an easy one
Hodling is like hoping for the best but expecting the worst, and it's much easier to hodl when we keep in mind that challenges will surface and therefore we have to be flexible with our hodling as too much rigidity can make us to be dieing in the midst of plenty when we can just take a little profit to meet our needs and make life easy for us while we keep HODL to stack more in future. There are challenges that can need beyond our means of income to solve them so tampering out hodling isn't a bad idea in such situations.

Hodling can be viewed as It's like savings they are meant for emergency that are beyond our everyday expenses or income to solve, so what's important is being able to continue to o accumulate after taking a little from it to clear out challenges.
I saw HODL for the first time here and was thinking it was a typo error until I started seeing it everywhere and ever since I joined this forum
It is interesting to learn what it meant as it is no different from the normal spelling of hold but this 'Hodl' stands to represent saving for a long time or let me say some years before withdrawing the investment.
How to make it till the final year of HODLing is tougher than being said, because in the real world, saving up for the future comes with lots of challenges and bills and denial of gratification, which might be discouraging to maintain in the long run
67  Local / Nigeria (Naija) / Re: BUA reduce price of cement. A new strategy to end monopoly. on: October 02, 2023, 01:01:09 PM
It's not a new thing about monopoly in nigeria where some group of people dominate the market to frustrate the living but I like this strategy even when it is shorter term.BUA is having a new plant under construction but the old factory (ex factory)are still producing cement and have crash their cement price to ₦3500 untill first quarter of next year 2024, so basically everyone get to buy BUA cement at that price unlike Dangote that is selling for ₦5000. I want to see if Dangote will remain at ₦5000 from now till next year or will slash it's price.

This is a good marketing strategy to bring customers closer to BUA from Dangote that dominate almost every commodity in Nigeria.
I don’t see the message before but I never believe am, we know fake news dey always fly anyhow for dis our country, before I go even believe till I reach where I wan buy the cement and they call am for me #3,500 then I go believe say na truth. But if the news is true, then it’s really nice, Dangote and Lafage no go get choice than make dem reduce their own price also, or people no go patronize them again, for Nigeria wey things hard like this, people will always go for cheaper products. But if BUA fit reduce there own money, then the two main companies wey dey produce cement for Nigeria no go get choice than make dem reduce their own too, but I just hope the news i real.
It was even Dangote's cement I learnt reduced their sales price from #5,000 to #2,500. I still don't know how true this is because I don't use cement for now, but if BUA and Lafarge are following suit, if us a welcomed development as it will reduce monopoly greatly and encourage other cement manufacturers to come up.
68  Local / Nigeria (Naija) / Re: Our naira no follow again on: October 02, 2023, 12:58:24 PM
I think the situation no go affects me because I have a dollar account and I dey still earn and save in USD but as I went to the market to buy foodstuff last week, 100k I carry no fit buy any better thing. Things go even more for December because of Christmas and New Year jolliment. I no know where we dey go for this country. Happy independence!
Right now it doesn't matter whether your earnings are based on the dollar, pound, or Euro, at the end we all meet at the same market and feel the heat, and that's the hard truth. The situation does not even recognize whether you are rich or poor, however earning dollars is pretty better than non.

The worst of it is that people are now taking advantage of this ugly situation on the ground and are increasing prices more than normal which will gradually ball down to we experiencing hyper-inflation if we haven't hit there yet, and thereby worsening the harsh conditions that everyone is facing right now.

Any salary or wages in cryptocurrency must be converted to our local currency before use. Even our local traders who are crypto traders adjust their prices with the CBN exchange rates and right now the Naira is almost at 1$ to 1000naira.
With interest rates increased since the sitting of this new government, we are hoping that minimum wage and other avenue to make extra income is available to the common man without crypto knowledge or devices to eke a living online from.
Crypto currency education is still the way forward and this government should do more campaign and sensitisation workshops, they should also introduce the subject of cryptocurrency in educational curriculum throughout the country .
69  Local / Off-topic (Naija) / Re: Should illegal stealing of crude oil be discarded? on: October 02, 2023, 12:44:32 PM
Over the years the country have been experiencing economic sabotage and bringing to book culprits who are involved in this act and I begin to say that the nature with which this perpetrators goes through during this act is even very complex and risky and most government officials have been even using this medium to operate and nothing is being done to them so why not they leave others alone to do theirs knowing that they risk even losing their lives in this quest.

And even though they are not refined to the best standards but it also helps to make petroleum products more available and affordable to the public.

I believe that since our government are not ready to make things easy for her citizen, they should also allow them to develop any idea of easing the tension and hardship of the masses. And again this illegal refining of petroleum products have made some criminals to stop involving in social crimes and be committed to making money using this method. Please what are your takes on this
On this subject, the concern has been raised several times that the government should give license to these local refineries, but that their refining activities would be regulated to avoid the sale and consumption of fake crude.
The idea was good as its purpose is to allow the product be common thereby reducing monopoly and reducing its price.
Until we have a government that is not after their own pockets, monopoly, crude oil theft and pipe vandalism may keep being issues for every sitting government to combat.
70  Local / Nigeria (Naija) / Re: This increment of Fuel price in Nigeria on: July 08, 2023, 12:01:51 PM
I personally think Nigerians will adjust to the price. E no fit hard to shock us. We don see enough of government policy wey dey choke, but we still survive and even live lavish join.

This just shows how there is an open opportunity to invest in power generation and distribution, and other sources of fuel that's more economic worthy. There are gas generators/plants that can run on gas and is more efficient and cost effective that PMS.
More entrepreneurs need to arise and invest in such devices and technical initiatives, and the use of electric cars should be something the FG should be working on to make possible and affordable to the citizens, so as to reduce over-reliance on crude products.

In the meantime too, alternative sources of income should be researched too like cryptocurrencies investment and opportunities, so as not to be at the mercy of rising bills and cost of living.
71  Other / Off-topic / When learning stops. on: July 08, 2023, 11:46:17 AM
This topic made sense to me as at the time of writing this and I want to use it to encourage and uplift anyone here who is feeling stuck while learning a new skill or has lost the zeal to continue, please reinvent to refire.

One way to stay on learning to the end when stuck or stagnant at a point, should be to divert attention to another interest. Let's say a newbie without any clue as to how this place converses or how cryptocurrencies or the decentralized network operates, may have to experience a hard time learning the new terms and learning from the wisdom of those who have succeeded. If after sometime one gets stuck and can't even make a sense of the whole thing, perhaps it would be time to learn something else, just to stimulate the brains concentration power and ability.

Later if you go back to the first thing you were learning, you would notice how easy it was all the while, but you just couldn't concentrate then. This new Neuro pathways will have been formed, new level of understanding and comprehension will be formed and that's how growth is noticed and revealed.

Never quit. When learning stops or you get stuck or stagnant on an idea, divert interest to learn something else for a while, and then revisit the initial subject of interest for learning completion. That's geniuses are made.

What do you think? Was this helpful?
72  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I found my Bitcoin books from 2016 on: July 08, 2023, 11:25:00 AM
I enjoyed your story and it is inspirational to those of us, like me who is still learning the best approach to investing in Bitcoin.
You were consistent despite the failure you had, you even made sacrifices and the money you saved up in BTC was of a better value when it was needed mostly.
This is why the decentralized system isn't going to fail as most fear.
Perhaps if your parents had known then that you had some crypto or close family knew, they would have found a way to sabotage your savings process with you regretting why you let them in on your plans.

You also won new fans and members who believe in cryptocurrency and the decentralized system in the persons of your parents, your brother and all those who must have heard how you provided funds when all hope was lost.

Way to go OP.
73  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin as an opportunity for the unbanked. on: July 08, 2023, 09:39:38 AM
If we see it practically, then banks don’t commit fraud. They just quote you many laws and rules and block your account if you break those laws. Yes, bitcoin can really be a lifesaver for the person who is holding money in their house. For this type of person, bitcoin can be a safe investment, as they will have the complete freedom to control their finances independently. So yes, we can see that Bitcoin is really an opportunity for the unbanked. The decentralised nature of the coin has really made the work easier.

It can hardly be disputed anywhere, on how the brilliance of the decentralized system didn't work. It did, and it has been a savior for many unbanked that have digital I.Q and if not, have friends who do and they trust to help be their broker.

The only issue I fear now is, it may soon become tough for the unbanked due to the new regulations that might be imposed should BTC get accepted in one's region/country of residence.
The crypto exchanges might have to work with the banks and thus crypto will be taxed. So anonymity become visibility and transparency.
I think BTC as an option for the unbanked might soon serve as a way to become banked.
74  Local / Nigeria (Naija) / Re: I lost everything to crypto twice before I learned how to win. on: July 07, 2023, 10:35:47 PM
WTF is winning in crypto?
Most think it's about making money but the more important metric is keeping the money you make.
Hitting 100x in a bull run is possible but most lose it all!

So how do you keep it?
By not being a complete wombat with your risk. Time and time again I see people risking 30%+ of their capital on a single sh*tcoin  This is a bad move.
Almost every crypto you invest in could dump to zero quickly. The odds are less likely the bigger the project gets, but it’s not impossible, look at $LUNA.
The smaller a project, the higher the chances it can rug or crash to zero.
So, you need to cap the percentage of your portfolio you risk on any one project based on the risk. This is how I do it.

source

Gambling Zone
Mine is simple, I risk 0.1%-3% of my capital on high-risk projects, the dodgier the project, the less the risk. This is the gambling zone.
You might hit a 1000x return here or you might get rugged, who knows
I appreciate that 1% is not worth investing if you only have a $200 portfolio. In that case, the best solution is to keep working and put more money aside so you can have a proper portfolio.

Golden Zone
I risk 3.1%-8% on medium to low-risk projects. This is where most of the money is. Here you can land a 200x return so extra risk is justified.
Obviously, not every project in the golden zone has 200x potential many of them are higher caps and will struggle to do a 20x, let alone 200x, but that is still a great return!
But there will be a handful of medium to low-risk projects that make absurd returns like SOL, AXS and a few others did in 2021!

Safe-ish Zone
Very few projects can be considered safe, the main two are obviously BTC and ETH which is as close as you can get to safe in crypto. The rest are safe-ish, these are projects like $ARB and $BNB.
Safe-ish projects generally won’t give you those insane 200x returns because the caps are far too high.
But the likelihood of them going to zero is very low so they are much safer.

Capital Allocation
As a general rule of thumb, it's okay to risk less than what the zone indicates but never more.
Meaning that with a crypto like ARB, which belongs firmly in the safe-ish zone, it's fine to risk less than 8%, but never more than 20%.
The upper limit of the zone is a firm max, and the lower limit is a loose minimum.
Now, some of you might be thinking, "WTF? 6% of my capital is like $60"...

If You Have A Tiny Portfolio
A lot of knob wombats will tell you to gamble it on shitcoins in the hope of hitting a 1000x but that is complete nonsense.
You may as well play roulette because it has better odds than gambling at the shitcoin casino.
If you have only a few thousand or less the best option is to invest in low-medium risk projects in the golden and safe-ish zones and keep working a real job to slowly and safely build a portfolio.
Once you have more money you can start messing about in the gambling zone.
The point is, you do not want to up your risk a whole lot more to try and make money faster. Risk management is key to long-term success.

How To Decide A Cryptos Risk Level?
I feel like most of you have a good idea of what's low, medium and high risk but if not let me know and I will do a thread on this too!

The topic sounded interesting at first, until I opened to read what you had to say and saw this large text you compiled. As informative as it is, it didn't tell us the story of how you lost before you won, but only showed perhaps what you read to make you understand better.

I don't know if I could go through a loss of my investment in crypto up to 2 times and still continue to do so in this kind of economy.
I do admire you persistence and consistency which led to your win.
75  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Understanding Wallets vs Exchanges, how to choose a good exchange on: July 07, 2023, 10:26:48 PM
Besides taking the pain to read through and research on the best of the best of wallet and exchanges to use, to ask from real users to get a better initiative is wise.
With some news of  recent clamps down on major crypto exchange like Binance, it may be hard as a new user to even stay informed on new development while still struggling with how to use an exchange or familiarizing oneself with a wallet for their coins.
76  Other / Off-topic / Re: how to get mod jobs on any crypto platforms on: July 07, 2023, 10:14:01 PM
If you have had former experience on moderating, you would probably be led to the right place. The best thing you can do is study up on what interests you most about cryptocurrencies and build the knowledge, then you can put into practice the best advice you can get here.

I don't know much about moderating, but I can say that when you show more interest in the betterment of an idea, you would have unknowingly gone through an interview phase and what would be left is simply to ask. Which is what you have done.
77  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Bitcointalk; a school on its own. on: July 05, 2023, 05:11:51 PM
I see Bitcoin talk as a community more than it is a school. No one teaches anything besides expose us to new ideas, point of view and opinions.
Everyone learning here does so out of interest, because once you get to read a topic of discussion, you could either remember or not or even care less as no one gets to inquire if you learnt anything or not.
Even with the questions asked and answers given here, no one can really give an advice that suits your situation best.
78  Economy / Economics / Re: Fast Transportation Makes Economic Turnover Faster on: July 05, 2023, 11:19:11 AM
Quote
The article above shows a video about a pizza delivery that was carried out by Dominos using a jet pack. that's why I was inspired to make this topic

do you all agree that with the emergence of fast transportation now, the economic turnover is also getting faster, this is based on the fact that any delivery will be distributed quickly, automatically it will make the price of living necessities and kind remains stable as long as it can be distributed quickly!

Transportation must be fast, but it must be safe as well. Aren't jet suits still dangerous? Grin I think that using a jet suit for transportation purposes should be strictly regulated by the authorities.
Speed and efficiency are pretty much one thing. The production speed is very important when measuring the labor productivity.
The same thing applies to transport. The faster the better. Nobody would use a slow transport system(like the railroads), when there are faster alternatives(the highways).

When considering the faster transportation, we should also check out the quality of the medium.
The high number of other transportation vehicles on the highway may have been one reason for the jetpack development, but we should consider also where such a medium can be used.

In a suburban setting with lots of phone cables or poles, trees, and congested buildings, a jetpack might be a good idea for fast transportation, but it could be the worst case of irresponsibility if an accident occurs.
When we however remove such a suburban setting,  the jetpack could be the best thing that may have come to deliver great economic turnover for those businesses who rely on swift deliveries as service.
79  Economy / Economics / Re: No petrol/diesel car sales by 2035/ Reality or dream? on: July 05, 2023, 11:07:04 AM
It is a possibility that petrol/diesel cars would have almost, if not totally been upgraded for electric cars.
The pecks of the petrol/diesel engine will constantly be in contest till electric powered cars can be of greater efficiency and of sustained economic value.

I saw a documentary on YouTube of how an electric car owner carries around a small petrol generator to power his Tesla once the battery was low and no charging spot close by. This is one challenge that will see the demand for electricity consumption triple and the need for modular standard plants and distribution points worldwide.

Unless countries come together to adopt the electric cars upgrade, cars running on diesel/petrol might even still be available till a century from now.
80  Local / Nigeria (Naija) / Dangote Advices Nigerian Entrepreneurs. on: July 04, 2023, 07:38:16 AM
It's one thing to wish to be as rich as Dangote and am sure anyone here would agree to a mentorship program by this man. I consider him one of Africa's greatest entrepreneurs mostly with the completion of Africa's biggest refinery, in Lagos. It is an enormous achievement by a true visionary.

So, he was advising young entrepreneurs to be careful in spending their money, mostly as the business is still growing, that living flamboyant lifestyle should be reduced to the barest minimum. Instead the money should be saved or reinvested if the success of the business is the ultimate goal.
He said he doesn't have a house abroad and it is not a do die affair to own one.

Nigerians has expressed their opinions on the advice he gave, and am asking it here to know what we feel he should have added to the advice of reinvesting, besides saving or not buying real estate abroad?

This is the discussion over the radio on Max FM this morning.
