61  Other / Off-topic / Re: Gambling addiction is not about the money you could win; it's about the "win" it on: April 03, 2024, 05:54:43 PM
When I started gambling my mindset is solely about winning some cash to better my life but the more I gamble, the more that idea shifts. The money no longer satisfies my initial goal but the idea of winning does.

But even with those ideals in play, why would a millionaire start gambling in the first place?

so why would a rich athlete or politician become so addictive to gambling?

I think socialization+joy+drinking+gambling is satisfaction to them. What do you think?

Well, addiction is addiction even if you are rich or not, winning or not, losing or not because they may not be concerned about the financial consequences in the same way that someone who is struggling financially might be even the rich still keep on gambling though they are not afraid of losing but they can't stop because they are being addicted but while they are not afraid to lose, they will have a significant impact on their lives like losing their relationships, reputation and even their freedom but I think it's important to consider all of these things and not just assume that money will protect someone from the negative effects of gambling.
62  Local / Nigeria (Naija) / Re: The power of Networking. on: April 02, 2024, 11:09:52 AM
It's not strange that no man can do it all by himself and that most of the things we are doing becomes better and easier when we actually put our heads together and support ourselves in our own little way.

I've benefited a lot by networking with people. Sometimes you just need to know someone that knows someone who is into what you're looking for and it paves a big way for you. Their are several instances when people pay huge sum of money to learn a skill that you will comfortably learn for free because of the kind of network you've built.

I guess this is one of the major advantage of going to the higher institution and to be really honest, the major thing I have achieved as a graduate is that I have a network of different individuals that are doing well for themselves in different field and it's always very easy to seek for their help or professional advice when the need arises.

Even most of our top politician and some of our leading industrial expert still ensure that they build the needed relationship and network with people in their field and those outside their field and once they leave a particular position, it's always not difficult for them to find another.

What I'm saying in essence, is that we've become a family by reason of this platform that brings us together and if for any reason their is going to be a physical move to advocate for bitcoin adoption, we're going to be in the right position to carry it out and so make we de relate wela for the forum and also try to de carry each other along so we go also know wetin de happen for the industry wella.

I loved how you described this forum as a family. That is very true, and it is incredible to watch how this area has expanded and changed over time to become such a supportive community. I believe that is one of the characteristics that distinguishes it from other industries. There's something quite unique about the way people interact and aid one another here. Everyone appears to be pulling for one another and working hard to improve the business. As the business expands, I believe people will become more specialized and focused on their own projects and hobbies, which may lead to people being more insular and less willing to collaborate.
63  Local / Off-topic (Naija) / Re: Try all your best to gain knowledge on: April 02, 2024, 11:02:48 AM
You don talk well my guy, dey true be say if you no get knowledge about wetin you dey do, you fit dey limit yourself and you fit even risk wetin you get. But education no be only book wey you dy read, na anything wey you fit learn wey go help you grow as person. You fit learn from people wey you see, or you fit learn for internet, or you fit dey even learn from wetin you dey observe with your eye. So whether na person wey go train you or na internet, as long as you dey learn something wey go help you grow, I go call am education. See eh, my mind even dy tell me say some people wey never go school or learn any work before, they still dey succeed well because dem get one or two special skill wey dem learn, and dem sabi how to use am. My guy I know say knowledge no be small thing at all, but as you don talk am, na everybody personal responsibility to make sure say dem get knowledge for wetin dem dey do, because if you no get am, e go affect you directly and indirectly. Make we no even forget say na this knowledge wey we fit make our country grow, because if person gain good knowledge, e go fit find ways wey e fit use am make life better for him or her and for other people. Person fit even take this knowledge use am bring development for the society or community. So make we use our energy and our time gain good knowledge, so that we fit use am do something wey go help our country. I know say some people go still dey reason this matter differently, but I dey sure say if we put our mind together we fit help our country grow with the knowledge wey we get, even if na from small small.

Omo the April fool's no be here o, especially the one wey happened for forum here, the thing shock me o as I dey see as my merit dey increase dey decrease, I dey over happy say I don reach full member, say God don answer my prayers, I dey post with joy yesterday, everything just dey sweet me for body, even hungry self no catch, nothing dey bother me again o, only for me to later find out say na April fool's, omo tears comot for my eyes immediately because to get merit for na war, no be come chop o, I come still see as dey dash me Merit, after many posts, omo I cry o, I come dey talk say assuming say i know the man house I for don go beg am for merit, among all the prank dem do yesterday, na that forum own pain me pass. 65  Local / Off-topic (Naija) / Re: Always chanel your effort to meaningful things. on: April 02, 2024, 10:42:16 AM
For me, I go like talk say time management na big part of this thing wey you talk about. Na we fit decide say we go dey spend our time for things wey dey add value to our life, instead of things wey go distract us or waste our time. We fit use several tools and methods to manage our time well well. For example, we fit use to-do lists, calendars, and other tools wey go help us to keep track  the things wey we dey do. And we fit also dey make sure say we dey set specific goals for ourselves and we dey prioritize wetin dey important pass others. For example, if you wan learn a new skill, you fit decide say you go dedicate one hour every day to this. And then you fit use another one hour every day to spend time with your family and friends. I dey call this "time blocking" - na like you dey block off specific times for specific tasks. And this one go help you to focus on the things wey dey important. I dey think say if we get this type of plan wey dey clear, e go help us to balance all the things wey we dey do.
66  Local / Politics and society (Naija) / Re: Na only the government go fit help us to make cost of things come down on: April 02, 2024, 10:31:10 AM
You don explain well-well how this exchange rate dey affect the cost of things. But one thing I dey worry about na dis thing wey you talk about retailers and manufacturers dey collide to keep price high. I know say if government no get hand for this matter, we go just dey suffer dey go. So I dey tink say one solution na make government make law wey fit stop the high prices, because e dey fit put law and regulation wey go help to control the prices of things e go really help people alot or dey fit dey do awareness for people, so that we go know our rights as customers because most of the retailers na e dey cost why things dey cost seriously because dem go dey lie say see dollar don increase even if e no increase, dem go take am as an advantage to just wicked us, just imagine say this days wey dollar don come down, yet things still dey cost like say tomorrow no day, so na just make government put order wey people go take to help matter if not e no go easy.
67  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Health Benefits of Gambling on: April 02, 2024, 10:06:11 AM
Gambling has both positive and negative effects, but although the positive effects are discussed, the negative effects are not discussed. Gambling relieves depression but when a person loses several bets in a row, a kind of hatred is created in his mind and then from that hatred he commits various types of criminal activities. Moreover, gambling is also socially termed as a highly criminalized social addiction. After the harmful effects of gambling on the children of a gambling family, the children of the family are psychologically broken and fear for their careers in the future.

It is critical to consider all factors when making gambling decisions, and one suggestion is to force casinos and other gambling institutions to offer more information about the possible detrimental impacts of gaming. This might be accomplished with signage, booklets, or even internet resources. Another proposal is to demand that a percentage of gaming proceeds be utilized to finance research and treatment for gambling addiction. Finally, there may be stronger controls about who and how much may gamble. For example, some nations impose gambling age limitations, and certain jurisdictions in the United jurisdictions limit how much money a person may spend on gaming each day.
68  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Features of the worldview of a gambler on: April 02, 2024, 09:12:57 AM
Prospect theory, I believe, may help to explain this phenomena. According to this hypothesis, people frequently base their decisions on their perceptions of prospective outcomes rather than the actual probabilities. For example, someone may opt to gamble despite the fact that the chances of winning are extremely slim, just because they are more concerned with the prospective payoff than the possibility of winning. This might explain why some people continue to gamble despite obvious losses.

Another possible explanation for this phenomena is the gambler's fallacy. This is the incorrect idea that if something occurs more frequently than usual within a given period of time.
69  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: The most logical and profitable game on: April 02, 2024, 09:03:19 AM
I know that basically gambling is based on luck, but we can use tricks or strategies so that we don't spend a lot of money and can still win, even if it's only a small win.

In general, in my opinion, there are several categories of games in gambling such as house edge games, sportsbooks, slot machine games, live casino games, and lottery. In your opinion, which game do you think is the most logical to win? and what is the reason?

Even in skill-based games, it is crucial to recognize the role of chance.
Finally, I believe that the most reasonable approach to gambling is to play games that involve some level of ability while remaining cognizant of the role that chance plays. This strategy allows players to increase their odds of winning while still enjoying the excitement and fun that gambling can give.

Of course, it's vital to note that gambling should be viewed as a sort of enjoyment rather than a source of income. While it is possible to win money gambling, keep in mind that the house always has an advantage, which means that the odds are always piled against the individual.
70  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Should mentally unstable people be allowed to gamble? on: April 02, 2024, 08:52:05 AM
According to law, there are unlikely to be any particular laws prohibiting someone from gambling unless they pose an obvious threat to themselves or others. However, this does not guarantee that it is the correct course of action. Finally, it is up to the person and the gaming facility to decide whether or not to allow someone to bet. Even then, it's difficult to determine if the choice is actually in the individual's best interests. It's a difficult question with no easy answers. However, many individuals may gamble for leisure purposes without any bad repercussions, however for certain people, gambling can be a devastating force in their life, and I believe we need to be mindful of this and prepared them if necessary.
71  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Can loneliness make one addicted to gambling on: April 02, 2024, 08:34:14 AM
It is true that loneliness and isolation might increase the risk of problem gambling. One argument is that when individuals are lonely, they may resort to gambling to fill a hole or feel more connected. However, it is crucial to understand that not everyone who is lonely develops a gambling addiction. And not everyone gambles because they are lonely. So, while loneliness may be a risk factor, it is not the sole one.
It's also crucial to recognize that gambling addiction is a multifaceted problem. It's more than just winning and losing money. Genetics, mental health, and environmental variables are all potential contributors to problem gambling.
72  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Woes of gambling on: April 01, 2024, 09:27:14 AM
Take casino games for example especially jackpot casino games there is no way you can tell me that all of them are structured in such a way that they randomly always make money for the house if you ask me gambling is a fraud that has been used to trick people into believing that their choices matter it does not everyone that gambles is just there to make money for the casino unfortunately there is nothing that can be done about human nature 💔💔💔

Some say that even if you understand the odds, you are still at a disadvantage while playing casino games. That's because the house always has an advantage, regardless of the game you're playing. They may not win every time, but the odds are always in their favour. This is referred to as the "house edge." Some argue that this renders gambling fundamentally unfair. Another factor to examine is the mindset of gambling. It has been demonstrated that people typically understate their risks of losing while overestimating their possibilities of winning. This is known as the "gambler's fallacy." When you're hooked up in the anticipation of gambling, it might be simple to fall victim to this illusion and wind up losing even more money.
73  Other / Off-topic / Re: Can family members help a gambling addict? on: April 01, 2024, 09:09:26 AM
Many people are going through gambling addiction but they manage to keep it a secret from their families and loved ones. The only people that know about their gambling activities are their close friends. In the event that you are one of those close friend to a gambling addict, do you think it is right to tell their loved ones with the intention that they will be able to talk to him and help him overcome his addiction? Can the advice of loved ones even help? What is the most effective way of going about gambling addiction.

Another aspect to remember is that gambling addiction is a complicated subject, and it is not always simple for the person suffering from it to identify that they have a problem. So, even if you tell your buddy about the issues you have, they may not be ready to hear them or acknowledge the situation. That may be very frustrating, and it's crucial to be patient and not take it individually if they're not ready to hear what you have to say. Even if your buddy admits they have a problem, it's still conceivable that they will relapse. Gambling addiction, like any other addiction, is typically accompanied by a lengthy and tough rehabilitation process.
74  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Why in some religion gambling is forbidden? on: April 01, 2024, 08:59:30 AM
Gambling is outlawed in certain faiths because it is viewed as a sort of addiction capable of causing financial ruin and other bad repercussions. Gambling, for example, is deemed haram (forbidden) in Islam because it is viewed as a sort of riba (usury). In Christianity, gambling is sometimes viewed as a kind of avarice or covetousness, both of which are forbidden by the Ten Commandments. In Hinduism, gambling is frequently viewed as a sort of Maya, or deception, that might have karmic implications. Non-religious persons may opt to avoid gambling for a variety of reasons. Some individuals may see it as a waste of money, others may find it ethically repugnant, and some may just believe that it is worth mentioning that even within a single faith, there may be a wide range of opinions on the morality of gambling. For example, some Christians feel that gambling is always evil, whilst others believe that it is acceptable under some situations.
75  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Do you have a habit of tracking your gambling progress? on: April 01, 2024, 08:37:54 AM
Well, for me, having a gambling journal is really important because it may help us measure how much money we spend on gambling, how much time we spend playing, and how it affects our life, whether negatively or positively.  For example, you may observe that you gamble more when anxious or depressed, or when you are alone. Being aware of these tendencies might help you make adjustments in your life to lower your risk of problem gambling. It can also assist you in setting objectives for yourself, such as minimizing the amount of money you spend on gambling each month and making plans for how to avoid gambling since some people may be quite confident in their capacity to stop gambling, while others may find it extremely difficult to quit gambling, but your degree of self efficacy can have a significant impact on whether or not you are able to modify your gambling behaviour.
76  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Don't make your bets when you're tired on: April 01, 2024, 08:18:54 AM
Fatigue and weariness may absolutely impair our judgment, and it is crucial to be conscious of this, therefore I recommend that you remain focused and awake when making judgments.  People also gamble to get away from their daily lives or to earn money to help them with their finances. So it's crucial to be conscious of our motivations for gambling and to ensure that we're not using it to avoid dealing with our problems, especially if we've given up on gambling but have nothing else to do to generate money, so you've opted to return to gambling. So when we are tired, we are advice not to gamble because it can lead to a lot of negativity in our lives.
77  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Patience can help alot on: April 01, 2024, 07:55:56 AM
It's crucial to remember that gambling may be addicting, and to consider your emotions while deciding whether or not to pay out. It's normal to feel upset and dissatisfied when things don't go as planned. Setting some boundaries for yourself is something you could think about and that can assist. For example, you may make a rule that you won't check the results of your bets until they're resolved, no matter how nervous you are. You might also try putting a limit on how much money you're willing to bet in a specific period of time. This can assist keep you from overpaying or making rash judgments.
78  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: The madness of gambling addicts. on: April 01, 2024, 07:40:19 AM
many gambling addicts have lost their minds because their desire to continue gambling overpowers their common sense, hence the importance of "gambling responsibly"
Ironically when there are people who cannot control addiction in gambling, this is just a small example of many gamblers that ended worse and there are some who end their lives because they are in debt when gambling. Gambling is responsible when you are not addicted and when it cannot be controlled, in my opinion it is difficult to be responsible for gambling choices.

The problem is how you put gambling, if done only for fun in spare time is not a problem. But when gambling is done as a substitute for permanent work, this will be far more problematic and it is very difficult to control, the decision is in each of us and as much as possible avoid addiction in gambling.

Gambling addiction is a genuine problem, and as you indicated, it may lead to financial disaster and even suicide. In this instance, they require assistance, which might include regulating the gaming business in such a manner that they are not abused by gambling companies. For example, we may impose limitations on how much money individuals can bet in a certain period of time, or we could force gambling organizations to offer information about the odds of winning. We may also require gaming firms to give responsible gambling training for their staff. Also, to raise awareness about the issues involved, such as the perils of gambling addiction.
79  Other / Politics & Society / Re: The media is greatly influenced by big business. How do we know? on: April 01, 2024, 07:07:24 AM
We can easily see how the media is influenced by big business. How can we see it? By the many people who have been de-platformed, and by the numbers of articles and videos being censored.

What could the media do if they were honest, but simply didn't like the opinion of somebody? They could simply set up one or more sections in their systems, where they could place what they considered to be junk news or fake news.

They could even make rating system algorithms that sorted items into a bunch of categories, depending on how fake or junk they thought it was. Nobody would have to be censored or de-platformed.

So, we can see from this that most of the major media companies don't fairly control the material they show.

Cool

You make a really intriguing argument concerning the nature of "news" itself. It is true that what constitutes "news" is always changing, and various individuals have different perspectives about what is noteworthy. When it comes to news, it appears that the distinction between subjectivity and are at odds. On the one hand, we want news that is impartial and factual. On the other hand, we want the news to be compelling and informative. It's a difficult balance to achieve. Additionally, algorithms are employed to select what news is presented to us on social media and other channels. However, algorithms might be prejudiced, reinforcing our pre-existing views and preferences. This may make it tough to develop a system that's honest and consistent.
80  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Wealth is not backward compatible. Those who can hold Bitcoin are inherently wea on: April 01, 2024, 06:45:54 AM
Most of the people who can hold Bitcoin are people who have some assets in their hands. For poor people, it is really not easy to access this circle. Maybe those free blockchain games can help them understand a little bit about tokens. However, even if they have saved a lot of tokens in the game, when they want to put it forward, they will hesitate when they see the high fee. In the end, these tokens are either used in the game or sold to wealthy investors. After all, wealth is really not easy to flow into the hands of ordinary people.

Even if they have tokens, they may be unable to utilize them effectively due to excessive costs or other hurdles. And some initiatives are attempting to make cryptocurrencies more accessible to individuals in underdeveloped nations, such as by inventing payment systems that do not require financial system. There are other programs that aim to reduce transaction costs through the use of innovative technologies. So although this would make it more easier for individuals to use, it would also make their data more exposed to hackers or government monitoring, and there is a compromise between availability and protection.
