61  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Solo Mining LTC on: January 16, 2012, 01:21:23 AM
So I recently decided I would try mining litecoins since I can mine them alongside bitcoins and not slow down my gpu. I downloaded the official client and tried to solo mine. All it says that it's started and then I left it running for 3-4 days and saw no progress (or high cpu usage) . Just about an hour ago, I tried the ScrpytMiner GUI with a litecoin mining pool and that works perfectly and says I'm going at about 17kh/s with 7 threads with about 80% cpu usage. I tried to solo mine again but I still see nothing showing me it's working with the exception that it said my speed was going at about 2500hashes a second. I read that at 1 difficulty it should take an estimated ~65k hashes to find a block so...

My basic question is, with fear of sounding like the n00b that I am, can someone tell me if I'm setting up something wrong or is 3-4 days not a long enough time to find a litecoin block at that speed?
62  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Pools (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] The Litecoin PPS Pool - We pay for stale shares! on: January 16, 2012, 12:47:08 AM
I  just found out about litecoin's recently and I'm interested to see how a pool works for this. I was trying to solo mine but I get absolutely no feedback from the official client so I have no idea if it's even mining or not. I set up an account and joined this pool and now I'm going at about 16kh/s. I always did love PPS pools anyway so works for me. =D

Is the new way supposed to force you to use a Yubikey or GA key? Because before I could login without a Yubi but now with the GA update if I try to just click login with it blank, then it says my verification failed and I cannot login. =/

From the login page:

Okay awesome. Thanks for the info.

I could see it. Yeah I like TripleMining. If you join I would greatly appreciate having one of your miners in my minipool =D.
;
Also I'm a little confused on how BitMinter runs.. it says:

"Work is measured in proofs of work. Each proof of work is given a score equal to one divided by the difficulty at the time it was submitted. Proofs of work are grouped in shifts. A shift is completed when its total score passes 0.1."

So you mine until your estimated reward is .1 and that's the cut off instead of time based like 24 hours? I'm so confused.

Yeah that makes sense. I guess it's just more long term. I usually mine on TripleMining and they continuously seem to have bad luck lately. They just had a block that took 70 hours to complete followed by one that took 92 hours to complete... so from that and other times mining it just seemed much more likely to have more long blocks and losing out rather than having that chance where shares got counted multiple times.

[celebration]
Finally out of newbie area.

I'm currently hashing away and am also getting about 5% of stales. Makes the bonus a little useless. But it is still a free PPS method, which is what I wanted anyway.

What is your username on the pool, thatonegirlt?

I started on the pool a little while ago and have past that 7 block prereq but if the stats page is any indication, I pretty much never make a positive outcome compared to proportional. Any ideas on why that is?
70  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: New 4% Fee for ABCpool on: January 12, 2012, 03:53:38 AM

That isn't how PPLNS works.  In the long run you make the same amount as any other fair method.

Of course I don't expect you to believe me.  You have 10 posts so obviously you got it all figured out.

From my experience on a PPLNS pool that is what I've seen.. But if you're done being sarcastic and you want to explain how it should work, I'd be all for learning.
71  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: New 4% Fee for ABCpool on: January 12, 2012, 02:59:33 AM
. They are currently on hour 64 of their current block.. I find that way too much time to be making absolutely nothing.

Funny. My employer think its okay for me to work for 30 days and make absolutely nothing. Then all at once, I get a big paycheck. And I have to wait another 30 days.

Seriously, whats the problem is not getting daily payments for mining? Do you get daily invoices for your electricity or what?

Except, in your example you are getting paid for all those days you did work. With PPLNS at 24 hours, you would be only getting paid the last 24 hours of work. So your comparison really doesn't work. I wouldn't mind not getting daily payments if atleast I knew I was getting something for all that time, but I would only get back a fraction of all the time put in.

I'm usually on TripleMining which somewhat recently became a PPLNS pool and I don't really like that method at all. Sure when they are lucky you get extra but when they aren't you get one day of mining regardless of how many days it takes to complete it. They are currently on hour 64 of their current block.. I find that way too much time to be making absolutely nothing. I just want a good PPS pool. I'm not saying I won't donate, I just don't like these high fees placed for no reason, or said to be at one level but really at another, based on a previously reply someone said.
73  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: New 4% Fee for ABCpool on: January 02, 2012, 11:29:33 AM
Well PPS is always better unless a prop poll is having good luck. So with all things netural, I like to be in a PPS pool, which is why I wanted an alternative to ARS which is going down and ABCPool had no fee but now it's getting a fee too.

I always thought BTC Guild's 5% fee was crazy too. I wish ABC would implement something closer to operational cost. Maybe make it mandatory 2% but still leave people free to donate. I know there are people who would gladly give more just from the forum.
74  Other / Beginners & Help / New 4% Fee for ABCpool on: December 31, 2011, 07:18:40 AM
So once again I am posting this here only because I can't post elsewhere.

Does anyone use ABCpool? I just recently started the other day and discovered via the forums that they would be introducing a 4% fee. On their website, it says that a 2% fee covers operational costs so I just don't understand why it needs to be so high. There are complaints on their forum as well but most people have the sort of "if you don't like it, then leave" attitude. But what if a good number of people don't like it and leave? Well that doesn't leave the pool very strong now does it... so why the high fee? I know other pools that are PPS that have no fee or at least a lower fee than 4%. (To be fair I also know higher fee pools, but I'm not in them for that reason).

Thoughts?

(I'd like to post my opinions there but I can't unfortunately.)

Alright thanks. Yeah I haven't been able to connect for a little less than a week to server 1 or server 2. Just concerning.
76  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Is ArsBitcoin Pool working for you? [Because I can't post anywhere else] on: December 30, 2011, 02:23:59 AM
But he also said that he would give warning when he was going to stop the pool. Also, I'm not currently mining there obviously via my post title.

Yes, I think it is starting to have a slow death sadly.
77  Other / Beginners & Help / Is ArsBitcoin Pool working for you? [Because I can't post anywhere else] on: December 29, 2011, 07:54:19 PM
Hello,

I have been unable to connect to ArsBitcoin's servers for a while now. On their forum it appears only one person said anything about the problem around the time I started having it but they switched to server 2 and that fixed the problem. I have tried the normal server via guiminer as well as server 2 and it always says connection problems. I've also been on 3 different internet connections since it started a little less than a week ago.

I know its working for others, because the pool still has workers connected to it and mining but I can't seem to figure out why mine does not.

I really do not like this posting rule, even if it is to discourage trolls, maybe I don't have anything to say on the forums except occasionally when my input actually matters and not to just say hello.
But alas, hello. I go by T.

Yeah I just updated my first post. Sorry about that, totally missed that error there.
80  Other / Beginners & Help / Merging Accounts? on: July 30, 2011, 07:46:44 AM
Hi,

When I set up my account I must have typo'd my pin because I'm unable to update any information because it says pin invalid. So I made a new account and I wanted to know if there is anyway for the main webadmin to add the two accounts? My main is now thatonechickt while the first account I started was thatonegirlt. ( Very creative right? )

Thanks

EDIT: Sorry, I don't know how I missed that this was the Bitcoin forum and not a dedicated forum for my pool lol. I meant the pool.betcoin.co pool.
