61  Economy / Goods / [WTS] Sapphire 6990 4Gb, New on: September 01, 2011, 09:22:50 PM
One of my vendors just let me know he's expecting 6990s in, so I should be receiving 2 next week.  Anyone interested?  Looks like eBay prices are still in the $800-$900 range, so my target price will be $850, shipping included.  Payment required in advance via PayPal (sorry, haven't convinced the boss to accept BTC yet).

If anyone is interested, PM me or post here and I'll let you know when they arrive.  If not, eBay is calling their names.  Smiley
62  Economy / Goods / Re: [WTB] Dead cards/boards/cpus/psu's, etc! Or old stuff, working or not. on: August 31, 2011, 03:32:03 PM
I manage a small computer retail/repair shop which is also one of the main electronics recycling hubs for a ~100,000 pop town.

You tell me what you're looking for and how much it's worth to you, and if it's profitable to ship, I can almost certainly provide it.

I have many shelves full of dead laptops, and I ship off van-fulls of desktops and various other hardware for scrap every week.

I'll probably take you up on this tonight when I have easier access to my wallet.  2 years for that price is awfully nice.

I'd probably pay 5 Btc for them.  I would assume you could get much more from a collector if you could find one, but I think I could use them as a gift for a friend of mine.  Can't really pay more, though, and I won't be offended if you tell me to piss off.  Smiley

Bandcamp.  Support the indie artists while support the indie currency.

+1 to this.  I really doubt this can be done through spendbitcoins, but I think bandcamp should implement this themselves.  I think a common hurdle in paying for online music is the fact that you need a credit/debit card, and possibly go through paypal or something similar, so that paying in small amounts is difficult.  If I say 'pay me whatever you feel like for my music in bitcoins' I might start receiving a few bitcents now and then, which I'm perfectly happy with.  Although, my music is always up for free.

I wonder if there's anyone in the community that would host a "bitcoin for mp3" site for a couple % off the top.

That's beyond my coding ability or I'd do it, but I would think it would be popular...  digital music is a perfect product for bitcoins in my mind.

That's a good price.  If I may ask, what are you looking at that's going to give that kind of hash output for that little?  I can't seem to find cards that have anywhere near that output:price ratio.

72  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: total bitcoin energy consumption on: July 30, 2011, 08:07:26 PM
Hey,

Free energy may be a little bit too (though in social country's like Belgium, The Netherlands, Most other European country's it may be possible (not the USA  Roll Eyes) but I expect energy to become very cheap. And maybe if they find a way to get a lot of energy that needs to be consumed asap there maybe in some moments of the day (think at night when there isn't much energyusage) free electricity. Though you would still pay for the cable and probably some other shit they gonna ask you money for, but it may be like internet. You pay 50 and you get unlimited access.

Regards,
alemaaltevinden

A lot of places in the US are starting to vary energy cost by time of day to account for demand, so it may be possible to take advantage of that to do off-peak mining.  However, it's still pretty tough to get back your GPU investment on a dedicated rig if you can only mine for ~8 hours/day or so.

I don't think dedicated mining rigs are currently profitable.  Using your existing gaming machine to mine in your downtime would be the best bet, really.
