61  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Syscoin - Business on the Blockchain on: March 29, 2015, 05:44:49 PM
Will Syscoin be the only currency that we can use on Blockmarkets ?

Nope! the cool part about it is we will create a sync tool to be able to sync with other shopping cart softwares which may or may not even accept cryptocurrency... the backend needs SYS yes but the offers themselves may not need sys..they can use any payment gateways, and we will create syscoin payment gateways for these softwares incase people DO want to accept syscoin on these carts. Blockmarket offer's ITSELF needs sys but its just first iteration... stay tuned.

What do you mean by "the backend needs SYS yes"?  The seller makes an offer in any currency he wants but the buyer must buy only with Syscoin?
to update an offer you need sys.. if you want to track payments analogous to offer accepts/pays then you need to pay for that offer in sys.. but thats about it.. you can have a completely seperate front-end which "syncs" up with offers on the blockmarket to offer them to the world, but accept any form of payment you would like.

Can you explain a bit more of this? If a buyer wants to get paid in another crypto currency, then Syscoin would not be needed. Just the block market right? Then why would we need Syscoins? Btw why is there such a huge amount of Sys? 2 billion is such an immense quantity. I think that's the main reason why the price is so low. Have you guys thought of bringing it down? Or is that not part of the plan?
I think the back end process of every transaction need syscoin, such as making an item listing, offer, etc, Syscoin would act as the token or tool to carried out the transaction process, even when from the customer side the whole process is done with USD or BTC.

For example, i own a website with integrated marketplace/cart using blockmarket tech then If buyer pay with BTC, the operator of the site (me) would have to connect to 3rd party payment gateway or operate the gateway myself to convert the payment in to syscoin or other currency i choose, of course i as an market place operator would own certain enough amount of syscoin to facilitate all user transaction in my marketplace. The entire transaction then would be recorded in blockchain and i would have my admin/finance tool to extract the blockchain data for internal administration, tax, or other financial report.

I think that's why syscoin need the amount of that, to accommodate the number of future transaction from many marketplace, let say that if each transaction require at least 1 sys then 2 billion sys would at least can process 100-500k transaction/sec maybe more, and it would be far more easy for my employee to input record of transaction cost/fee if it's in 15 or 150 sys not in 0,000015 sys.

Thank you for the great answer! I completely understand and agree with %100. Keep up the awesome work devs!!!! Super bright future for Syscoin  Cool Too bright, I need my shades

You mean that the Syscoin blockmarket will be able to accept other crypto currencies as payments other than Sys if the buyer wants to? Something like what UNB Auctions is doing? Its an auction site that accepts dozens of crypto currencies as payments for the selling goods.

I'd like to open up this marketing dialogue with the community.

What, in your opinion is required via marketing to ensure adoption in the long run (not as a pump and dump)?

Bitcoin is highly criticized for not having good marketing to promote itself and many people have millions of dollars worth of bitcoin and yet no one really markets it, no investor has reached out of their pocket to really push adoption. The marketing that IS done for bitcoin is the one that comes from adoption from end-users and merchants.

We, like bitcoin, want even more adoption than what bitcoin already has, we want to go worldwide and compete with ebay, amazon, aliexpress, etc! in a sense, our main target is merchants but attracting merchants right now would not be wise while we are still in Beta; we want a finished product to be able to gain adoption; something that is plug-and-play, easy to use. Once that is done, we can certainly target merchants. IMO if you target merchants right now they will come with interest and leave with thinking it's too complex or buggy and never come back, wouldn't that be an investment in time and money wasted?

There seems to be a lot of talk/comparison about SDC; I'll say it right now, IMO it's all hype but DYOR. Dark Markets are really a big thing specifically in crypto right now; we are here for justice and we want to attract the whole world but certainly not Dark Markets-- we want to be able to continue to develop Syscoin and not end up in jail because we facilitated that type of cause; jail=no development..

Don't get me wrong, I believe we do need some extra marketing and lately our social accounts have been much more active, trying to gain more interest via various communities IE: tech, bitcoin/altcoins, opensource, merchants, etc; but I would love your input on what specific actions you believe should be taken.

So please, if yourself or anyone else can give clear suggestions on what should be done, our ears are certainly open!

And don't forget, to vote for Syscoin to get on CEX.IO .. Please upvote that post and post a comment! It only takes a couple of minutes to sign up for an account if you haven't already --- it's owned by GHASH.IO so if you have mined there before, you already have an account! https://support.cex.io/hc/communities/public/questions/203280507-Please-add-Syscoin-A-revolutionary-cryptocurrency-that-fights-for-justice-

Damn I honestly don't know what to say about the marketing because I've been happily surprised with the Syscoin Twitter and Facebook pages and the insightful blogs. I just think we need to get the word about Syscoin out there some how. Because honestly this coin is super undervalued right now and I have no idea why. The way I see it is Syscoin being that nice genious kid that is trying to fit in with the other kids but for no reason gets shut down every time. But they all grow up and Syscoin becomes the boss of all of them. And I think you're right, I would rather start pushing Syscoin hard after its more developed and ready to steam roll! In the meantime I'll try to keep buying more Sys Cheesy

was this coin an ICO or by any chance have a premine for the devs? maybe you can use a little of that funds for better PR
sorry but i really believe this coin should be above 1k sats  it has a beta market place already. i just dont know if the security of sys can be compared to sdc. so surely this must be AT LEAST 500sat with the beta market if this coin had better marketing and PR.

Yes and no. We were robbed, we're pursuing the funds via legal action. That said we do have the premine, untouched which we will start using to pay devs (internal or external) once Blockmarket v0.1 and Syscoin QT 1.5.2 are officially released, and continued development and marketing will be supported using this fund. We have a separate fund for bounties with a few million SYS in it as well (~3mil).

Once we reach the end of the legal battle (it will take a while) we will have additional funding assuming a favorable outcome for us (the evidence is very strong) but at the moment, our operating fund is purely the 40mil SYS held in the dev wallet. As you suggested, this will be used for marketing and for development but we don't need to "dump SYS" to pay for marketing, we just need to revamp our marketing strategy a bit - which is in the works, the marketing team is having a call Friday to discuss now that this pretty-fully-functional beta of Blockmarket is live in the wild Wink

The last thing we want to do is pay "promoters" millions of SYS when its at this undervalued price just for them to dump it and forever hold the price down. Instead we'll invest in the team, development, and our internal marketing expertise (we do have it! Just need a strategy) and pay internally since the team knows where this coin is going, and won't be dumping like some third party promoter would (or would be more likely to as they don't know the internal plans we have going on).

If there are marketing opportunities that do cost money, that are worth it - of course we're willing to spend some money out of our own pocket, but paying something 0.5btc or more to post tweets for a week is not a solid investment. We've tried that. Would rather use the dev premine to incentivize the marketing team when paired with a solid strategy to reach out to journalists, manage the social media channels, and also hang around Slack/BCT and reply to people to keep the conversation going. You can already see our social media strategy has improved immensely in the past weeks, that's just the start.

These are great suggestions and ideas, please keep them coming Smiley

PERFECT ANSWER DAN, %100 AGREE WITH YOU!

I have a 'feeling' Syscoin is ahead here... but I agree... that marketing they have ( and notice in articles like that one ) we don't have.... so perhaps, besides smart Devs, Syscoin needs a marketing guru to step in....

We're very aware of this but also that we need to make sure our offering / distinction from SDC is clear when we put out those marketing materials. SDC does NOT store offers on the blockchain, you have to have your node up and running at all times to sell your goods. SYS stores offers on the chain, so long as ANY Syscoin node is up, your items can be purchased. MAJOR DIFFERENCE.

Also, because SYS offers are backed by the chain they are also more secure in that they are harder to fake, forge, etc. There are other advantages to using SYS that I can't disclose yet due to ongoing partnership discussions but you're right- we do need to step up marketing now that "the race is on" but I still feel our tech is well ahead of the competition (decentralized-market wise).

I'm working on rolling out the Blockmarket Beta3 web UI right now, give me a few hrs and I'll have it and the blog post about it up Smiley

Also something to point out is that SDC is clearly targeting the 1% of the global market that wants to use their platform for (lets be honest)- "Darknet" purchases. While the SYS team makes no stipulations on what you can and can't sell on the SYS blockchain, nor do we have any control over it- we are really thinking and targeting SYS towards more mainstream use cases (the 99%)- thus integrations with Magento, Press2Shop, etc. Challenging eBay and Craigslist. Acting as a redundancy mechanism for mainstream merchants like Amazon- we WILL be approaching these parties when the time is right. These are the type of players you approach once you have a complete and holistic offering which Blockmarket is evolving into being along with the syscoin-api already publicly available in our GitHub repo.

While it is inevitable that SYS will probably materialize in a DNM fashion in one form or another [first], that's not our main target. That being said, the flexibility the SYS decentralized market implementation offers through public, private, and curated markets is another value-add that the competition's implementation does not support. We're watching the competition closely; SDC has good marketing, but I think other competitors that store their offers on-chain are a much bigger threat... and there aren't that many of them out there Wink

We'll be reaching out to journos very soon now that beta 3 is more tightly integrated with the wallet, sorry but to me that motherboard article read like a paid plug piece for SDC. Good marketing for sure though! We're taking note, the value of marketing like that is not lost on us  Wink

It seems all is well with the beta3 wallet after additional testing today! Expect public release tomorrow night USA/PST and updated Blockmarket web interfaces and updates.

Also we've rebooted the DNS seeder (syscoinseed.tk) so you should be able to sync without individual addnodes but they never hurt as a backup! More tomorrow!

Great news! Can't wait! Super stoked and excited!

Development Update

Sorry I'm a bit tired so I'm going to pull another Slack copy/paste, but beta3 is coming tomorrow and we'll be around to answer questions. Blockmarket beta3 introduces a new step where users can buy items from blockmarket using their local QT wallet without any copy and pasting. This uses some very operating-specific logic. Because of this we want to be around when beta3 is deployed, to assist with issues in environments we may not have been able to test in; from Slack:

Quote from: danosphere via Slack
danosphere [1:23 AM]
We're going to post to our social channels here in a bit but I wanted to let the ppl here know first - delaying beta 3 deployment until tomorrow afternoon just because... in the past we've done this where we've deployed things very late in dev local timezones

danosphere [1:23 AM]
and then we have to go to bed and ppl have questions, possibly problems, etc- and we'd like to be able to help

danosphere [1:23 AM]
so we're gonna post another teaser image of beta3 across the channels tonight and plan on having beta3 deployed by 1pm USA/PST tomorrow

danosphere [1:24 AM]
that includes web and QT newness, and also the syscoin.market and ffa.syscoin.market will all be updated to beta3

danosphere [1:24 AM]
and a blog post

danosphere [1:24 AM]
rather than deploying and vanishing for a few hours (sleeping)

Expect the rollout tomorrow (March 22, 2015) around 1pm USA/PST!!! Here's quick glimpse of what's coming:

will sys hit 600 again?

Honestly I could see the price in the 1000-3000 sat if you're patient enough. And then it'll set much higher sights. Why do you think I hold so much Sys? Grin This coin is a true hidden gem waiting to finally be uncovered

Cryptsy is finally getting off its ass and getting the noble wallets fixed. Should be all set by today hopefully.

For all of you who don't know ArmoredDoge is he is a well known TROLL. He has many troll accounts and spreads stupid FUD and lies on a lot of different coin forums, not just on Syscoin. Just block him and ignore him. Hopefully he gets kicked out. Syscoin has a very bright future!

Oh..... We're so screwed then. Don't get me wrong? I highly appreciate what you have done and your work but this is looking bleak. Rofo is gone and there is nobody to tackle on the business side. I'm really worried now. Things are not looking good at all.

Two things:
- Rofo is big unknown. I have no idea if and when he is going to deliver something. On the other hand I still do not believe he just stole NOXT funds. And he said both NOXT and NOBLE would be supported on newer version of website.
- If Rofo is gone we need a team of people. It seems at least few positions are covered - there are people willing to work on marketing/promotional and on technical side. Things do not happen by magic. There must be someone willing to work to make things happen. Of course we can spend hours and days blaming each other but maybe it is better idea to start thinking if someone could step in and try to work on business side? Or maybe someone from this community knows someone who could help?

+10000 This is why I'm still on Noble, because of you eagleflies. Noble is very lucky to have you
