If you have a regular old-style POTS telephone line in your house, you can probably power a Jalapeno from that.  It's not 'free' energy - but it's 'free for you' energy.

As of now; 10 minutes lag from GOX trading engine !!!

edit:
Almost 15 minutes now without trading data!

{"result":"success","return":{"lag":1081055125,"lag_secs":1081.055125,"lag_text":"18 minutes"}}

64 Cores (so they say).  Let us be REALLY conservative and say they're 2Ghz Processors.

2,000,000,000 (instructions per second) * 64 (cores) * 60 ( seconds) * 18 (minutes) = 138,240,000,000,000 Instructions.

Yes, that's right, it will apparently take the Gox Server 138.24 TRILLION Calculations before it can match your trade.  Seriously efficient trading engine, I tell you.

So glad I moved exchanges.  What a surprise.  Gox is a steaming pile of dog dung again..

Nothing like reactionary upgrading.. It would be far too much work to plan and prepare ahead of time.  I do understand that Gox couldn't possibly have guessed that bitcoin trading would continue to grow in volume.  Angry

Maybe coinlab is going to take over and they did not bother, who know... But yeah this is just sad...

The software works, at least no mistakes known. Maybe it's only about quadrupling their hardware.

They already pay $10k US a month on hardware, I do not think that is the issue.

Their hardware is pathetic for a trading platform.

What? I'm of the impression I could code an exchange on my phone that runs faster... this may be naive but still: I don't think this is a hardware problem.

You've never written a relational database application with millions of rows of data that is queried, inserted and updated at a high rate and that needs to be (pseudo) real time, have you?

They need to call Oracle or one of the big heavy hitters.  They should be running multiple distributed servers (Database, Web Front End, Order Matching, etc).  Something like the ZFS based Exadata or similar.

It was long ago time to abandon the Dell.

Gox: Upgrading is hard
Me: I don't care.  Just Like I didn't care that it was 'Hard' to move all of my identity confirmation info from one system to another.  Poor you.

This is INSANE.  Moving Coins to BitFloor and BitStamp ASAP.

Something is very wrong with MtGox, it's a bit much when you can't even add a sell order at the current price.

They should do some serious upgrading of their equipment or risk another exchange with higher capacity replacing them.

I think they should limit bot activities, but they have no incentive to do that.

I think they should invest in the infrastructure needed to supports bot activities.  They make a few bitcents off of the operation..

But to delay real human orders for multiple 0.01 BTC bot orders is just stupid, they should still limit such activities.

We'll have to agree to disagree on that point.  Isn't some 'organization' being allowed to 'limit activities' exactly what BTC aims to prevent?  Why don't we limit your trading activity since it might delay mine?  If a person wants to trade .01BTC, should we delay that order because it looks like its probably a bot?

Is there really something wrong with expecting Gox to keep up with their trade volume?  Are they on that much of a shoestring budget?

That's it.  I'm done with Gox.  Where should I go?  Between forcing me into dealing with another entity (CoinLab) and now having their Commodore 64 overloaded and unresponsive, I'm done.  I've got a market sell order for 1 coin and another coin ASK at 42.00.  Neither will execute, and I don't even see my 42 ASK on the order book.  That's horse shit.

I'll move my coins to a different exchange by tomorrow - Just have to figure out where.

There are a huge amount of cold storage coins coming out and probably being thrown into the lava at Mt Gox.

http://blockchain.info/charts/bitcoin-days-destroyed-min-year?showDataPoints=false&timespan=&show_header=true&daysAverageString=7&scale=0&address=

well, i tried to market sell some bitcoins on mtgox and they've been sitting there for 10 minutes

ok, after i wrote this i went and relisted it as a sell at $1 and it sold for 45

it was $46.85 or something like that when i initially put it in as a market sell

Can someone PLEASE start an exchange that isn't a complete PIECE OF SHIT.  Just for shits and giggles, I tried to sell 1 BTC at market.. that was 10 minutes ago.. still hasn't sold.

MTGox should go back to exchanging trading cards.

While not diced, the picture of the full wafer does show the separation of the individual dice.. They look awfully 'square' to me.. This single die looks rectangular.  Optical dillusion, perhaps?

I'll give their "Asic Team" one thing - assuming that really is their die, that's some damn nice wire-bonding.

Well, I certainly wasn't worried Smiley ... and the landing was VERY smooth indeed.
Definitely a highlight of the visit for me.

Glad you enjoyed your flight.  I've been a private pilot (with Instrument and Multi-Engine Ratings) for about 15 years now.  I love it up there.

The smooth landing was certainly attributable to a well trained pilot, but also comes courtesy of the low-wing design.  Because of ground-effect, one has to practically coax/convince the aircraft to land Smiley

To clarify why the flight doesn't show up on any flight-tracker - only IFR and Flight-Planned VFR Flights will show up on a tracker.  If the flight was performed as a simple VFR flight (Which it most likely was since Josh is only a Private Pilot with No Instrument Certification) then it wouldn't have been recorded in most databases.

You were a brave one Kano, Flying with someone who's only had a license for six or seven months in a rental airplane Smiley

Yes, BFL said they switched from QFN some time ago, due to some heat issues.
Gotcha.  Missed that update.  Thank you for clarifying.
