61  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Wallet just got emptied on: May 11, 2012, 03:54:19 AM
This looks really interesting.  I will be looking into it.  I see a pretty high level of security in the Armory setup.  I like that nothing can be sent without going to the offline computer and getting it signed.  That would have saved my 10 BC tonight.  I want to make sure I am secure when I start mining with a much higher hash rate.

I think I'll put my next wallet on a flash drive and just plug it in for transfers.  I am doing a pretty serious search now for any kind of spyware.  Yeah, I am worried about some kind of keylogger or something so I am running several malware searches.

No to both.  I recently reloaded my guiminer since the last amd update seems to have killed my hashrate.  One of my cards went from about 275 m/hash to 30 and the other went from 275 to about 230.  I've been trying to get that figured out slowly for a week or so but I haven't visited anywhere new.  Just went by my pool, Bitclockers, to check on what I had there, and thought I would update my wallet with the new blocks.  I just ran my SuperAntiSpyware and it found a couple of things and a bunch of tracking cookies.  The two serious ones it found might have been my problem but I don't know for sure.  I am thinking the safest thing to do is to delete all my bitcoin stuff and start over though first I would like to understand exactly how this was done.

No, I didn't have it encrypted.  I have never had any problems before and never bothered.  You can bet I will next time.  No, I don't use any other alternative currencies.  Yes, I can see the transaction out and the address though I don't see what good that will do me.  How often is this happening?  I think I am going to delete everything and start over.  I've got a couple of Bit Force Singles coming and I don't want this to happen again.  As it is 10 was about a month and a half of mining so that sucks but its not a real major hit.  I just want to make sure it doesn't happen again.  So if I delete everything and start over and next time I will encrypt my wallet what else should I do to make sure this doesn't happen?  I would like to understand how it happened this time.

I opened up my wallet to update it and catch up.  When I went to check to see if it was done all my bitcoins had been sent out.  It was only 10 but it was all I had.  I've got pretty good anti-spyware, anti-virus, and firewalls on my computer.  I can see the address but I don't figure that is any help at all.  Should I delete everything and redownload and start from scratch or what? Nobody ever gets on my computer but me so it didn't happen from here but somehow through the Internet.  Just how secure are the wallets and how often is this happening?  I was under the impression that they were pretty secure against this kind of thing.  Anyway, it seems like it will be hard to trust the one I have again.  That is why I am thinking of deleting everything and starting over with new downloads.  What does anyone think about that?  Any suggestions?

Years ago I had a habit of asking people what they thought was the purpose of life.  I heard many different ideas over several years.  Most just so-so but some very interesting ones.  My favorite was, "life is an exercise in self-discipline".  I think that saying has a lot to be said for it.  If one has never had to be disciplined to achieve something than the achievements do not really matter so much.  The harder we work for something the more we feel rewarded when we accomplish what we set out to do.  The more I though about it the more I liked that response.  All in all, I think that is the best definition of life I have heard.

Actually, I think that it has got worse in the last twenty years or so.  Greed is one of the seven cardinal sins and years ago it was not something that people bragged about.  It is pretty hypocritical to see a professed "Christian" talking about how greed is good.  On the other hand, these days I see preachers saying things that no one could have imagined them saying twenty years ago.  I still believe that the vast majority of people are good and that it is only a small minority that seeks to take advantage over others.  That small minority just has a lot better press corps than it used to have.  The income inequality in our society has become way more pronounced than at any time since the twenties and thirties.  Oh well, hopefully it will all be getting better.  I think people are finally getting fed up with the rich and corporations running everything and running roughshod over everyone else.  No matter what they try to make people believe, people do count and compassion and caring for others is a key component of our society and most of us want to keep it that way.  This is my first post out of the Newby area.  I wanted to check and make sure I could make a post so here it is.  In regard to the subject of things getting worse, I always say, "As long as I wake up breathing it's all a bonus.  Sometimes not much of a bonus but still a bonus."

Running 774Mh/s with two XFX 6870s.  Was running more often around 500 until upgrading my gui miner and changing pools.

Problem solved.  Since I had upgraded everything I went ahead and deleted those two files again and started downloading the blocks again.  This time it went all the way through and my latest transfer showed up.  Interesting and time consuming experience.
Thanks anyway.

Viddy well my droogie.  I know that I didn't put in an address but being reminded of one of my favorite films and looking up the quotes is reward enough.  I wil also make an effort to watch the movie again soon and that will also be cool.  Thanks for making me think of it.

How about, "That was a real kick and good for laughs and lashings of the old ultraviolent." or "Come, come, come, my little droogies."

Well I have downloaded the newest versions of the wallet, the bitcoin app, and the gui miner.  I mine fine and once I changed the path from bitcoin.exe to bitcoin-qt.exe it calls up my wallet ok.  The problem still remains it is stuck at 160,808 and has not moved in hours.  My old transactions are all showing but my newest one from this morning does not.  Of course I don't expect it to until all the blocks are downloaded.  Isn't there some way to fix this?  I know I can download the latest blockchain but I really don't know what to do with it.  Thanks for any help anyone can give.

Hi all, I am pirate1.  I have been mining about three months.  I registered because I have a problem with my wallet downloading blocks.  I have a post on the main newbie page about trouble downloading blocks.  Anyway, I am hoping someone here will be able to help me with that.  I thought I would go ahead and introduce myself to help with the five required posts.  I am currently using two xfx 6870 cards to mine with.  I plan on bulding a dedicated mining rig by this summer.  I will probably add two xfx 6950 cards to the two I have in a new rig with an AMD processor running all 4 cards.  I am considering using a AM3+ board for the connectivity but may end up going a lot cheaper.  It will be my first AMD rig.

I knew I had heard that line but couldn't pull up the movie.  Clockwork Orange was a fav of mine but I haven't seen it for an awful lot of years.  I guess its time to watch it again.  The Ludwig Van was a giveaway too.  Oh well, now I get to watch it again, not all is lost.

Hi, I'm pirate1 and I have been mining for about 3 months.  I just ran into a problem.  I recently moved just over 4 bitcoins to my wallet from my pool.  My wallet froze up and wouldn't download the new blocks.  I ended up deleting the blkindex.dat and blk001.dat files and starting over.  It went up to 160,808 and stopped.  I then upgraded my wallet to the newest version.  It shows all 9 of my old transactions but is still froze at 160,808 blocks. It shows it is catching up but nothing changes.  The little pinwheel on the bottom is turning.  I tried downloading the latest block file and placing it in the folder where I had deleted the two files but it would not work with it there and I had to delete it.  I did save a copy of my wallet.dat file but have not had to use it for anything.  The message at the bottom of the wallet says I may need to upgrade or other nodes may need to upgrade.  I did just upgrade my wallet to the latest version.  What else do I need to do?  Can anyone help with this?
