Hmm... just got my Single today in the mail (excited!!). Easy miner, however, only lets me choose the radiobubble for "Administrative Options". All the others are greyed out. I can, however, mine with BitMinter, and firmware upload works great. How do I enable mining straight from EasyMiner?

In addition... I ran diagnostics, and kinda surprised at the results. 34 throttles (my room is cold... 68F), and 5 errors on the 100 test :/. Did I do something wrong? Sad

Check to see that the heatsink's fix pins haven't worked loose in shipping.  If the heatsink is firmly in place, then run the auto-tune feature to get your unit at peak performance relative to the operating environment.

Tightened the screws a bit, trying again Smiley  I tried autotune but after about an hour it still wasn't done so I stopped the autotune process... how long is it supossed to take? And I keep getting this:

2012.07.05 [15:12]  BitFORCE (COM4) ERROR: Extraneous data received: NO-NONCE
2012.07.05 [15:14]  BitFORCE (COM4) ERROR: ZFX command timed out. Retries: 0

when did you order your single?

I ordered my single ~30th of April, 2012.

Auto-tune must not be aborted by force, since it updates the firmware from time to time. If aborted during firmware
upload, the unit needs to be reflashed, since the data in it's flash is no longer valid and the unit won't process or initialize.

Alright, how long should auto-tune take to finish then?

For each firmware that is being tested, about 200 jobs are processed. If during any of that 200 jobs,
the unit throttles or produces a bad nonce, then AutoTuner immediately proceeds with updating a slower
firmware. This cycle continues until for some firmware, the 200 jobs are processed without any errors
or throttles. That firmware would be reported by Easyminer as the stable firmware for that unit.

I can't go fully into details as we speak, but as we have stated before, it will be in favor of the miners.
I will try to see if I can answer this question in detail today.

Any new details on this yet?

Not yet unfortunately.

Will the new units have the same problem as the old Singles where it wouldn't stop working on a problem for 5 seconds making it useless for p2pool?

The answer is yes.

Regards,
BF Labs Inc.

So they will work with p2pool? Or will they have the same problem? (My question was ambiguous - not your fault)

They will work without any problems.

BFL Engineer,

This is a little off the topic I started above, but it is important for potential customers & for customers that may want to make further purchases in the near term. Can BFL provide some kind of rough projections on the impact it's hardware will have on the bitcoin mining difficulty levels in the first few months from initial sc-hardware shipments? This seems pretty important if one is to invest in sc hardware, as a reasonable ROI would be a big factor. Perhaps, you guys can provide some insight on what will happen, based on what you know of products on order.

I started one thread trying to assertain this from what little data we have avaialble, but we don't know the exact numbers of hardware or hashing power that are going to hit the network starting in October. Also, what rate it will increase on the network. For example, one projection derived from our scant data was assuming the current network hash rate of 12.5THash/s, that after one month BFL products will incline the network from 12.5TH to  124TH/s or as high as 300TH/s after the first month of shipment go online. That would jack the difficulty up a factor of 10x to 25x. This value has been criticised as unlikely, but I have used some very conservative numbers to consider worse case scenarios. Who know's it might be worse than that. If it is that high [especially before the first month of shipments are out], then I personally would rather hold off on ordering any extra hardware until I see a reasonable & predicatable ROI.

Would you expand on that?

BFL Engineer et.al.
How will multiple SC Singles connect to a single computer? Do they each require a unique USB port, or is there a way to chain some (or all) of them together to use one USB port? The SC mini-rig will apparently plugs into one port, and I'm assuming the submodules in it are essentially SC Singles (or Jalapenos). So, a daisy-chaining feature seems like it might be doble if not available.

||bit

A USB port will be needed (in the first versions). We're looking into different methods of daisy-chaining (both wired and wireless).
However, it is not yet fully determined whether daisy-chain will exist and if so, how it will work.

Regards,
BF Labs Inc.

In the first version, would a USB hub that has several USB ports work to support several sc-singles?  It isn't exactly the same as plugging into a dedicated USB port on a computer, since it is connecting many USB ports to one USB port on a computer.

||bit

Yes it will support multiple singles and SC Mini-Rigs.

does this mean if I  ordered in the first 5 mins after your announcement, the order date will still count 2 days later?(assume my money will arrive 2 days later)

If the transaction is completed using BitPay, then no. However, if it's bank wire, then we'll count the day money arrives in our account
(however will ignore the time you had to wait to receive wire instructions from us).

We've been working with Bit-Pay for a BTC exclusive order form.  This is meant to both promote the good services of Bit-Pay and give dedicated miners a bit of an advantage in getting in position.  We'll have that posted later tonight.  Alternate payment methods of Dwolla and BankWire will come shortly thereafter.

Please help...   We're respectful of the significance of order position, but we can't think of any good way to organize it other than opening it up to orders and letting it go as it may.

Another alternative is to go odd / even.   Odd being consecutive down the priority list and even being a random selection from orders that month.

Any thoughts on this?

No plans for PP or CC?

PP will come later.  We don't process CC's.

waiting for PP.  any idea on when i should check back?

Regarding PayPal, it will come shortly. Please be patient.

71  Other / Off-topic / BitFORCE SC - Bankwire Instructions Delay Policy on: June 26, 2012, 01:19:17 PM
We have an announcement to make regarding all our customers who chose bank-wire as payment method for our SC series. Based on our policy, the order date is locked in when the actual funds arrive in our bank account. In this process, however, we will not count the days it took us to send wire info to the customer. In other words, if you have ordered on 15th of the month, and received wire instruction on 21st and finally the money arrives in our account on 23rd, your official order date will be 17th (15th + 2 days delay between receiving the wire info from us and funds arrival).

Clients who still have not received wire info should not be concerned, as we only count the delay it took them to wire the funds from the day wire instruction was sent to them.

Please let us know if you have any questions in this regard.

I'm a little bit nervous as I have not received an email confirmation from Bit-pay, no confirmation from BFL, and I'm out ~209 BTC :|

Here's hoping they just got slammed again with orders on this stuff, they are a small operation, it's going to take some time to sort things out, and nothing sinister is afoot.

Dear Xian,

Thank you for your interest in our products. As we speak, we have a backlog of about 200 emails. We process them as fast
as we can, so it may take a short while before we can respond to you. Rest assured, your order is in place.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Change thread title to indicate resolved status?

No refund has been made. I'll change it when it is really resolved.

Did you end up getting your refund?

No, at least they emailed me and said I would get one, but I'm still waiting. In the mean time, I can't order the SC's until they refund my bitcoin.

Dear Bitcoin Daddy,

We apologize for the time it has taken to process your request. This is mainly due to the huge number of emails we've received lately.
I must say that if your intention is to convert Bitcoin to SC, then you will not loose your place/priority as time goes by.

Did everything suggested in this thread, and everything works fine now, now I understand how the CGminer works and have no more questions regarding it. Thank you all  Smiley

Now just need to figure out why it displays 35MH less on the laptop compared to the PC, however my voltmeter shows the same wattage consumption, so maybe program error for some reason.

Can you please check the ping time on both systems (google for instance), and see what the difference is?

Hi, I hope someone can help me out, I have my Single plugged in and identified as port 15.

Problem is Diablo Miner does not support it (this is what I used for GPU mining), I don't know how to get CGminer working, and the Ufasoft miner link downloads some sort of a wallet, with no options to mine.

Dear Ice_chill,

This is the command line you can use with cgminer:
(Assuming that you have two devices, one on COM15 and the other on COM16)

cgminer -o <your pool server address> -u <username> -p <password> -S COM15 -S COM16

Please let us know if you have any other questions.

Take those users who 'shot the wad' to purchase TONS of BFL hardware, that will essentially be worth NOTHING if they keep it and will only end up forcing them to spend MORE, just to get back on top where they were before.
Sure, some might see this as a great deal....but what about THOSE who STRUGGLED to buy 1x Mini-Rig @ $15,000 ? How easy will it be to come up with another $15,000 just to be competitive again, rather than being left with a $15,000/25 GH DOOR STOP when that SAME Mining power will be purchased by NEW buyers at a FRACTION of the price ?

This is the exact scenario that is going to very bad for BFL if bitlane's conclusions are true. Unfortunately, we'll have to wait for BFL to clarify.

+1 for clarification

I'm sorry for catching up a bit late on this thread. To set an example, imagine that you are willing to purchase
a 1299$ BitForce SC Single. What you can do is you can send the unit back to us, and 1299$ will be reduced to 699$.

Sorry for my ignorance but has ANYONE received a mini rig in the wild ?

I saw gigavps posted pictures of them in BFL office but I need to see one in somebody's home to believe it.

Several units are already en route. I guess you'll hear from the clients tomorrow (or even today).

Kudos to you BFL !

BFL-Engineer: Not meaning disrespect here, but is the SC Jalapeno a serious product? The idea of a small USB appliance for $150 that puts out 3.5GH/s is awesome, but I can't think of a good reason to make a coffee warmer out of it. It seems that would make the junction temperature needlessly high if you're maintaining the hot plate at 50-60C (common for most coffee warmers).

Why not do a 3.5GH/s USB hub or something where you could add a more effective heatsink and keep junction temperatures down?

Well, our chips are not going to find much problem when they heat up, they are engineered for that.
We thought that we can channel that heat and make it useful to keep your coffee warm for example.

"Availability" is just meaningless in my opinion, unless BFL specifies what they mean by it.

Availability to butterfly labs means, "Hey guys, we are available to take your millions of dollars starting now. We will sit on this cash building THOUSANDS of dollars in interest over the next 6 months, then maybe think about shipping your items. Gotta go, busy so we can't comment on any of your complaints. Will update in next 3 months."

EDIT: also, how is the trade in going to work? Will we have to ship our singles back the day we order the ASICs and not be able to mine while we wait? Or can we trade them in when the ASICs arrive?

Dear Morblias,

Regarding the trade-in, you can keep your units until your BitForce SC is ready to be shipped.
