dbcache=64 mempool=64
what these two commands do? why 64 ? Default value for dbcache is 25, so 64 will increase memory consumption. Don't do it. mempool option does not exist. Setting it changes nothing.

I still don't get it: atm the load average of the vps is between 0.00 and 0.10, so it is idle. Memory in use is 66%. Disk activity is zero for minutes. Syncing is still not finished and is to slow to catch up to the current block. Another strange thing is that "./8bitd getinfo" takes a very long time to respond

Is there a way to increase syncing speed? My masternode is on a Vultr vps. The syncing of the masternode can't keep up with the increment of the blockchain, so it is getting more and more behind. I have 512mb memory and 2GB swap. How can I speed this up?
1) Use bootstrap or install parsed blockchain 2) I forgot about forks since I use 1GB ram + 2GB swap
|
|
|
Well its a pretty old computer. P4 with 2GB of ram. Its only job is the 8bit wallet....so i dunno.
This setup is perfectly fine to run the wallet. Even without swap (although I recommend having extra 2GB swap). Random crashes every few weeks or months are not something worth further investigation (I spot such ones rarely).

Although after a few days the GUI crashes on linux as well (segmentation core dump)
Assuming your wallet is encrypted and you have been not unlocking it for some time, do you still have a core dump file?
|
|

That will also solve the problem of having either 0 masternodes on day one, or the dev premining coins to run his own masternodes until there are more masternodes.
What's the point of creating imaginary problems and then solving them?

Since many people already know it, no need to keep it secret anymore - indeed, incoming 8BIT version will use PIVX codebase. However, it will be not pure clone, the goal is to use current chain with this code base, therefore many things need to be changed (ie hashing algo).

would be better to see a wallet that is working or do something dev
Elaborate please windows wallet clearly has a problem. uses too many resources till it gets synced and when you finally get there is doesnt stay synced (orphans, loses the right chain? i dunno) its stated many times at the last pages. linux gui wallet is working fine but after a week or so if you restart the machine it doesnt start again (segmentation core dump something). apart from the correction that you have to do to the github code of the file rpcrawtransaction in order to successfully compile it. linux cli wallet works perfect. (you have to correct github code of the file rpcrawtransaction in order to successfully compile) For this coin, to be honest, I cannot really understand its goal and future.
Ok, let's ask a question, is there any bounty or airdrop program?
realy you have to ask that ? maybe open your own topic since most people check page 1 for all info ? where is the roadmap or website twitter ? wallet dont work at all on windows even when we add all sort of nodes still stay behind do i need to say more ? and yes i know my english is bad i try my best to explain How is it related to the working block explorer? Why do you want to see ie twitter in place of block explorer?

|
|

so this coin still on progress or already abandoned by the dev ? never heard anything from the dev about development and a lot of problem happened with the chain. it is getting more more complicated
We still work on loading existing chain into a completely new code base. This is non-trivial task though we see promising effects. However, being sick and tasting tons of antibiotics for few weeks does not speed things up either.

I haven't received any stakes since Sep 3rd 04:35. Did something happen to the network?
EDIT: OK i tried every possible way to make win wallet to sync. It worked for about a day using the instructions and block data from 2xjO9M3P post. The block that stuck everything in my case is 1039199.
Every time it stucks at block 1039199 and then orphan etc......so i dunno anymore. Keep getting stuck here too after resyncing from the latest snapshot. Probably explains why I didn't see stakes since Sep 3rd. Current height is 1048385, I will provide a snapshot tomorrow. How to keep your node up to date if you don't have much RAM: 1) do a backup daily, keep last few backups 2) if your node will stuck whatever, call getpeerinfo to see which nodes have highest height 3) restore your last backup (of moving chain), use connect=ip-of-node-1, connect=ip-of-node-2, start with -resync, etc. to connect only to nodes with highest height 4) once you will sync (should take maybe 15 minutes, maybe 2 hours, not days definitely) Or just bump your RAM size ![Smiley](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/smiley.gif)

someone can help? i made a transaction while my wallet was still sinching, the coin disappear from my balance but the transaction iD has 0 confirmation. I waited for the sinch but after 12 hours with the wallet sinched nothing changed
If you are not able to recompile a wallet - first option: run your wallet with switch -salvagewallet Attempt to recover private keys from a corrupt wallet.dat
If you are able to recompile a wallet - second option: checkout a branch that I made for Bittrex to resolve cases like yours: https://github.com/8bit-dev/8bit/tree/bittrex-zap - it adds following option: -zapwallettxes=<mode> Delete all wallet transactions and only recover those parts of the blockchain through -rescan on startup
that will let you wipe out dead txs. Always backup your wallet.dat before using any of those options... some people believe that -salvagewallet can destroy a wallet, but I have no bad experience with it - at least with 8BIT. Thanks!! i found online a way with that command. I simply restarted the wallet with zapwallettxes=1 in the conf file and later restarted without it It will not work for you this way - if it did maybe your txes were rebroadcasted in some other way. Basically the stock wallet does not support zapwallettxes.

Could just be me... but it seems something is wrong with the blockchain. My nodes that are up are not seeing new blocks and both block explorers seem to be quite behind with no new blocks appearing. Is it just me, or is something up?
I was doing some maintenance but at the moment everything is fine and all important nodes are up and sharing same chain - explorer.8bit.trade, bittrex, cryptopia. No clue what's going on with cryptoid, maybe they need to restart their node. That's why its so good to have more than one explorer, when explorer.8bit was down, cryptoid was up, when cryptoid is stuck, explorer.8bit is moving.

What the flip!
Trying to restart the 8bit-qt wallet and now it's eating up 7GB of memory!
Come on 8-bit-party, something needs to happen here if we want to take this coin to the next level.
Well actually my linux node is happy with less than 1GB :-) Anyway working hard on the next release.

Hello. i send my money from bittrex to cryptopia 30 hours ago. Address: 8MbKKW4HAA25mSQWCFuTiDcUsjXkH8waUW Cryptopia support : Looks like the explorer no longer exists, do you know of any others? Without an explorer we can't see where your transaction is. Bittrex withdrawal: 8/29/2017 8BIT 80.75477744 Completed TxId: 6337806fe81da14c02c190746a8d489532ae43d2c4343b0f48754a33efab0d6a What should I do? Cryptopia can not see the transaction because the block explorer is not working. ![Embarrassed](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/embarrassed.gif) Is there any attempts to make Bittrex update their blockchain ?
They lost our nodes when the previous domain died. I gave them new ones. also the block explorer has returned: http://explorer.8bit.trade/

Indeed, the domain has expired last night. It was a temporary one that stayed with us surprisingly long. There will be a new ANN this week with a brand new, great domain (paid ahead for many years), unfortunately I have not managed to migrate things before old domain expired. However, we finally have a second block explorer so at least most important element (from my perspective) is online.

any link that is not broken with a windows wallet?
There are many in this thread. Take this, for example: http://8bitcoin.netspecto.com/download.php8-bit-party, could you please fix the wallet download links on the official website? The dropbox links there lead to nowhere. It is always better to get software from the official source. I forgot about this great site... yeah I will link to it.

I was planning to have 8bit MN setup and have few questions-
1) Can we have hot/cold wallet setup, meaning I will have my actual coins on my windows pc and will have remote wallet, let's say on VPS acting as MN? If yes, is there a tutorial/guide for this. I do not want to install actual wallet and coins on a VPS server due to security issues.
Yes, you can. Search for tutorial in this thread or just pick one from other coin. However, to use masternode.conf you have to update a code what was described recently here. 2) People talk about fork of this coin, can you tell me in brief what this is all about?
We need fine-tune some economy aspects (masternode collateral, block reward, masternode reward) and fix technical things (ie masternode payment enforcement). Because the code base is ancient we will use a new one, at the moment the only question is if we will be able to use the same chain or we will start from scratch (coins will be swapped). Doing my best to make first option real. 3) Is it still profitable to have MN for this coin? Person said we get around 2-3 coins a day with this MN. Is that correct?
Depends on how many staking cheaters skip masternode payments. 4) How do I stake the earned coins from MN? Do I have to just leave then in the wallet just like any other POS coin or is there any specific setup that I need to be aware of.
Move them to another wallet or update a code so MN inputs will be never selected for staking.
