61  Other / Politics & Society / Re: What is environmentalism, really? on: July 29, 2012, 02:28:16 PM
Like most things in life, there is a wide range of people involved in environmentalism.  Trying to paint us all with a single brush just doesn't work.  For the most part, I want to be more self-reliant, which involves me producing as much of what I use as I reasonably can (currently working on learing food production).

Personally, I think a lot of environmentally sound practices will return and/or be developed regardless of what we do now, purely out of need.  And when it does, it is going to be very painful for everybody that doesn't have an eye to the future.  I am not sure exactly what form the future will take, but I believe it will involve less fossil fuels and more renewables, simply because it will become more expensive to obtain and extract as supplies get smaller.

63  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How did you get your first bitcoin? on: July 28, 2012, 11:27:56 PM
My first full bitcoin was earned thru CoinWorker.  First fraction was from the bitcoin faucet.  So far, I haven't purchased any with fiat (I don't have the fiat to spare right now).  I'm constantly looking for more ways to earn bitcoin.
64  Economy / Services / [WTS] Computer Aided Drafting (CAD) Services on: July 28, 2012, 08:35:34 PM
I am willing to produce Computer Aided Drafting (CAD) drawings from rough technical sketches.  The product will be a DXF file containing the drawing and a PDF for easy printing.  I expect that drawings will be produced for A (8.5" x 11") and B (11" x 17") sized paper.  Other sizes can be done, but are not printable on home printers and require plotters capable of printing on C (17" x 22"), D (22" x 34"), and E (34" x 44") sized paper.  I will require a readable scanned image from which to produce the drawing.  In addition, I am willing to modify existing DXF drawings that either I have produced previously or by another draftsman.

I expect to produce 2D line drawings, 2D isometric drawing and assembly drawings.  Additional drawing types may be available depending on level of interest and my abilities at the time the job is requested.

Currently, I use QCad for drafting.  I would prefer to use AutoCAD as the keyboard shortcuts and workflow are much better, but QCad has a GPL version and I'm not currently willing to lay out money for AutoCAD.

Technical Experience and Education:
  • Computer aided drafting technical course in 2004 at Autry Technology Center in Enid, OK.
  • Internship at Vance AFB for three months (full term of internship) in 2003 as a draftsman using AutoCAD.
  • Associates of Applied Science as a continuation of the technical course in 2004 at Nothern Oklahoma College in Enid, OK.
  • Bachelors in Electrical Engineering in 2010 at Oklahoma State University in Stillwater, OK.
My current job does not involve me drafting, but does involve referencing drawings (I will not discuss my current employment any further).  As such, I'm a bit rusty on the finer points of drafting.  The only recent drafting I have done has been drawing up plans for a hive body for my beekeeping hobby.  These two drawings are here: http://asthebeesfly.files.wordpress.com/2012/07/hive-body.pdf and http://asthebeesfly.files.wordpress.com/2012/07/deep-isometric.pdf

Due to holding full-time employment and being married, my schedule will vary considerably.  If you need a drawing by a specific time, let me know up front so it can be taken into account.

All items are up for negotiation, including price, and will be decided before any work is started.  The only currency for payment I will accept is Bitcoin (BTC).  Keep in mind that if more than one person wants work done, the one with the highest price will get first service.  Use of escrow service is recommended.  An arbitration agent will be agreed as part of negotiations.

I may withdraw or modify this offer at any time for any reason without notice.  In the event that I do, any outstanding jobs will be completed according to the original agreement.  If any job cannot be completed for any reason, a full refund will be provided.

If you are interested in this service, have a suggestion for a similar service that I could provide, or any questions about the above offer, please contact me below or by Personal Message.
65  Bitcoin / Press / Re: 2012-07-24 v3im.com - Interested in Mobile Payments: Bitcoin Is Cash at a Distan on: July 25, 2012, 10:52:14 PM
The article was easy to read and understand, and that didn't include any glaring mistakes or outright lies about how bitcoin functions like so many other articles I have read.  Nice.
66  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Hocnet: A competitively decentralized internet using Bitcoins on: July 23, 2012, 11:50:33 PM
Another option is to treat bitcoin transactions separately from normal traffic.  Something like deep packet inspection or IPv6 link local addresses and having a lightweight bitcoin peer running on each node should allow for payments even when there is no other traffic routed.  Though I agree that for small amounts of traffic, it may be more hassle for both parties.
67  Economy / Marketplace / Re: BTCFree.net - Free Bitcoin Faucet on: July 22, 2012, 04:19:07 PM
This works quite well, and looks pretty decent as well.  I've added this to my personal list of BTC faucets.
68  Bitcoin / Press / Re: 2012-06-29 forbes.com - Wikipedia's lame excuse for not accepting BTC on: June 30, 2012, 02:57:05 PM

Why hasn't any bitcoin fan forked wikipedia already ?

I was thinking the same thing.  If you don't like how the Wikimedia Foundation operates, create your own.  The CC-BY-SA the content of Wikipedia is licensed under allows this to be done.
69  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: BitDrop (or ShadyDeliveryNetwork), a non-robotic courier system on: June 27, 2012, 02:43:12 PM
I would be willing to be a runner for non-dark packages

Is couriering cash something you'ld object to?  If not, up to what amount would you be comfortable?

(I don't have an actual need, just curious what the response to this question would be.)

I would not object, but would prefer it not be so large as to make myself an attractive target to be robbed. I don't have an armored car Tongue. So, I see no problem with a few hundred USD total per trip.

I can see where this kind of service would be useful for moving money into or out of an exchange without needing the banks.
70  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: BitDrop (or ShadyDeliveryNetwork), a non-robotic courier system on: June 26, 2012, 12:57:55 AM
I think this is an excellent idea.  I would be willing to be a runner for non-dark packages on my daily, 40-minute commute in Oklahoma, and maybe a ship items thru this system once it gets going and I have things to sell.

For developers working or considering working on this, you may have a look at http://www.openstreetmap.org/ as a data source.  Also, please keep in mind that some people, like myself, are available for point-to-point travel, but not so much for radius travel.
71  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Wtf is the government thinking on: June 17, 2012, 09:59:17 PM
The designations of Democrat and Republican as liberal and concervative don't really make sense anymore.  If you think of all of them as politicians out to do whatever they think will keep them in power, you will be a lot less naive as to how governments work.  If that involves lying to you to trick you into voting for them or accepting bribes (oh, I think you mean campain contributions), many will do so.

There will always be good, principled people in all walks of life.  If government had only good, honest people in it, a monarchy would suffice.  But government has a way of attracting the most unsavory kinds of people that want to have everything and make you pay for it.  Which is why things like checks and balances in governments is so important.  The removal of these checks and balances makes me very concerned for the future of our society.

For the medical marijuana argument I have this: the same issues that are taking place with marijuana prohibition are the exact same issues that took place with alchohol prohibition.  Mobs/gangs/drug cartels, bootleggers/drug runners.  Call them whatever you want, forcing a substance to be illegal causes the rise of organized crime, and not the other way arround.
72  Other / Politics & Society / Re: The Very Worst Thing About the Federal Reserve on: June 17, 2012, 08:53:35 PM
Or if it does, we better make damn sure it's not a government.

I would argue that any entity that has the ability to create money out of thin air and has a means of forcing people to use that money will become indistinguishable from a government and will have all the abuses associated with bad government.  Freedom of choice is the main defence against this.

Any plans for things like sponsored tournaments?

Too bad I am horrible at FPS and most games.
74  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Introducing myself and my thoughts about Bitcoin. Please comment. on: June 16, 2012, 01:51:06 AM
Welcome to using Bitcoin, scomil.  Glad to have you here.

In response to your concerns in #1, there is research and development being done on how to manage the block chain long term.  I can't seem to find the thread where I read about it now, and the search feature hasn't helped.

77  Economy / Economics / Re: Effects on Bitcoin of usage-based Internet pricing on: June 10, 2012, 11:33:04 PM
And as long as the incumbents don't legislate away the ability to start new ISPs, then somebody will pop up to fill the desire for unlimited internet access plans, even if everybody else goes to usage based billing.  Even if they do prohibit new ISPs, there will always be some outlaws to fill the gap.

Sure thing.  Unless I am mistaken, this post (#10) makes urls active in my signature.  If not, I'll post here again when it does.

I'll add it to my signature as well.  At least I will if the forum software allows me to do so.
