61  Economy / Speculation / Re: What are your plans for YOUR BTC if the price rockets in the future? on: November 05, 2015, 07:32:30 PM
If we reach 10k you can be damn certain I'm hodling 90% of my stash. Because if we're able to reach that number, 6 figures are around the corner.

Although i would LOVE for a 6 figure number for BTC1.0 how likely is this really? i mean how many new millionaires would than generate? and what would it mean for the rest of the world that at that point that either dont have any BTC or not a large amount? (lets say a few $thousand worth)

Just done a quick search for how many millionaire there are globally and estimate lay between 14 & 20 million millionaire currently.
Now how many people today have more than BTC1.0? and how much will that number rise between Now @ $413 per btc (coindesks current rate) and the 1million dollar mark?

What would that reflect in the amount of millionaires there are globally? furthermore, will $1mill @ todays value be the same as $1mill by the the time the BTC is worth 6 figure per coin?

62  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Fake LocalBitcoins Android App is Phishing For Bitcoins on: November 05, 2015, 07:07:09 PM
I thought everything on Google Play was safe because they had checked it before accepting it. Thanks for warning us it's not safe.

I assume they have Android Bitcoin wallets on Google Play. What are the well known safe free ones as I'm considering using one? Are there any fake ones I should stay away from besides the one in the OP?

ive recently been warned about blockchain.info wallet app, and the Apple IOS Version of Mycelium wallet (though some reasearch leads me to believe the android one is fine, & is also listed on bitcoin.org, i was planning on starting a thread for users to advise on the best wallet of choice for both IOS & Android.

@Teddy5145

How do you report the app? can i do in on my web browser? i assume the more people that report it the faster its removed.
63  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Fake LocalBitcoins Android App is Phishing For Bitcoins on: November 05, 2015, 06:52:44 PM
i was going to use these guys (the website) the other day, but changed my mind at the last minute and opted for a bitcoin ATM instead.
64  Economy / Speculation / Re: What are your plans for YOUR BTC if the price rockets in the future? on: November 05, 2015, 06:42:36 PM
a house is definitely on my agenda if the price was to sky rocket lol I want also to be able to buy some everyday things too,i imagine one day using BTC to pay for gas @ service stations, with some sort of paying kiosk that maybe scans my QR for Payment.
65  Economy / Speculation / What are your plans for YOUR BTC if the price rockets in the future? on: November 05, 2015, 06:01:09 PM
Im fairly new to the bitcoin so forgive me if im wrong in my understanding.
What would be your plans for your Bitcoins if the price per coin rose to 5 or even 10k+ each?

The question dawns on me after thinking about everyone that is saving their BTC for the future.

what happens if everyone that has bitcoins decided to hold on to the lot? if price spikes in a few years then everyone sells? for the same fiat everyone says bitcoin kills? (not a rhetorical question nor sarcasm)

My HOPE is if the bitcoin price surges to ridiculous heights, the bitcoins i have will be able to be spent JUST as i spend my GBP now,

if bitcoin ever got to 10k per coin, ill be spending not selling, is this the same for most? orrrr?

My current approach is, whatever BTC i gain, i will save a little and will spend a little regardless of market value (unless it dropped bellow $150 in which case buy buy buy lol but from what ive read i doubt this) but isnt the spending of the btc what helps in grow? or am i mistaken?
66  Other / Off-topic / Re: DO YOU HAVE 1 BITCOIN? on: November 05, 2015, 05:51:23 PM
Dont have BTC1.0 just yet but hopefully by just after new years maybe, im just starting out,

i do have to say though, (and again i am new to btc) but i know the importance of saving your bitcoins for the future, but isnt the point of having bitcoins...to spend them?

I look at bitcoins no different from my money (when it comes to saving & spending) my plan is everytime i get some coins however much, put some down into saving, and try spend alittle, isnt that what will help the bitcoin grow? it being circulated i mean.

67  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: Paper Wallet help on: November 05, 2015, 04:56:49 PM

Yes, if you use blockchain.info, make a new account, save the wallet identifier and password,
and any other secondary password or etc prior to transferring your paper wallet to the blockchain.info address.

Unholycactus is correct in that you should use a wallet that is "safer" than blockchain.info wallet.
But if for some reason the QR Code is bad or corrupted, you can attempt to manually enter it in blockchain.info wallet.

(1.) Sign into your blockchain.info wallet.
(2.) Go to Import/Export tab, click "I understand".
(3.) In the "Import Private Key" Section, enter the private key exactly as shown, private keys are case sensitive.
(4.) Click add private key, it will ask whether to import or sweep.
(5.) Choose sweep. Select the blockchain.info address provided, and sweep.
(6.) Your bitcoins on the paper wallet, should now be in your blockchain.info wallet.
(7.) Since you swept, it may take some time to get a confirmation since blockchain.info standard miner fee is 0.0001 satos.
(8.) When you have a confirmation, you should then send these funds to your Mycelium or other reputable wallet of your choice.

As to your question about the lowest amount of bitcoin you can send, it all depends on the wallet program you are using.
With Bitcoin Core, i think the lowest used to be around 550 satoshi, but I think now in version 0.11.1, devs raised it to 2750 satoshi.
But with other wallet programs, everyone is different, I believe blockchain.info has a limit of 0.0001 during spam attacks.

Hi, i followed your instructions but i got stopped after i entered the private key and pressed "sweep", i got a red message saying error getting balance.

Now im really shitting the proverbial bricks  Huh

EDIT: Panic over!! lol, i got it, thank you.

The reason i asked about the minimum ammount you can send is because for some reason i cant transfer the satoshi from my old wallet.
But im happy to call that lot a loss since it only account to about 30p lol

It gives me an error message which reads "Error, Non-Canonical Signiture, High S"

I'm glad you were able to get your bitcoins "off the paper wallet".
Now very importantly, you should think about transferring off of blockchain.info, into a more reliable wallet, if you haven't already.

Yes, you should be able to move 30p around easily. After I looked it up online, the "Error, Non-Canonical Signiture, High S",
seems to be related to blockchain.info's upgrading their wallet to prevent transaction malleability attacks.
Even though 30p isn't really alot, if I were you, I would contact them and ask how to transfer the 30p to your new address.

To get around the High S Error, if you remembered you password and identifier for your mobile wallet, and signed in on the computer,
you could get your privatekey out of blockchain.info and attempt to load that into another wallet program,
to see if you could get your 30p out. That might work, but it is just a guess right now.

I tried for about 45mins last night to remember the password to my original blockchain wallet with no luck, and i have noticed i get the same "Error, Non-Canonical Signiture, High S" message even when i try to transfer within the wallet itself to another public key generated by the blockchain app.

I haven't yet transferred them from my new blockchain wallet to another one but im going to do a quick google on the two that you've mentioned.

Im considering buying a trezor wallet in the future, but im growing increasingly worried about the blockchain.info so shall heed your warning.
68  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: Paper Wallet help on: November 05, 2015, 01:22:48 PM

Yes, if you scan the "spend" QR code, that should be your private key.
I do not know the SatoshiPoint ATM, so I can not tell you exactly what to do.

Does your receipt have the private key written out under or near the "spend" QR code?
If so, you could potentially type in your private key on blockchain.info, if the QR Code is messed up.

Do you have access to your blockchain.info wallet on a computer?

Do not scan and import your bitcoins into Coinbase or any exchange yet, or until you have them all set up.

It is possible to also import the paper wallet into another wallet program, such as mycelium or etc.
I have not used them, but have heard good things.
Also check out this site to determine the best wallet for you: https://bitcoin.org/en/choose-your-wallet

I actually cant remember my Blockchain.info password (and they dont store them so cannot send a reminder or reset) so ive just been using the blockchain app as i still have full access via my passkey etc..
I haven't been stressing over the forgotten password because i only have a few satoshi (maybe about 1000.00 bits) from some faucets in there.

I think maybe ill make a new blockchain account.

Yeah the private key is written underneath the spend QR code, so maybe:

New Blockchain account.

And manually enter the private key? (i was a little worried about it in on the computer too to be honest)

Just a quick question also, what is the smallest amount of bitcoin you can send/receive?

Today i sent for somone to purchase some bitcoins from a Bitcoin ATM in London, These are the first bitcoins ive purchased, I have the paper printout (Public & private key) and ive created a blockchain account on my Iphone, How do i transfer the bitcoins from the paper wallet to my IOS one?

(on the blockchain ios app, i went to recieve payment, and scanned the code however it says invalid address :/)

(Please excuse any ignorance, im just starting out with the bitcoin lol)

The QR code you are attempting to scan, are you sure it is the Private Key QR and not the address?

Do you know the name of the ATM that you used?

yeah i think so, i scanned the bottom half of the print out i got from the atm which says "Load" under the QR and the top half i tried to scan says "Spend" which is what i tried to scan on my blockchain app.

im just worried ive made a mistake or something  Cry

i think the name of the ATM was SatoshiPoint, i have a receipt with the paper wallet which says SATOSHI in bold letter at the top of it.

It would be preferable to use Mycelium instead of a wallet where you don't truly control your private keys (Blockchain).
@OP How did you generate your paper wallet?

The paper wallet was generated from a Bitcoin ATM machine, im fearing my coins will be lost in cyberspace now, probably at my own ignorance -.- but such is my luck tbh lol
70  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Policing Bitcoin brought to you by Gavin Andresen on: November 05, 2015, 03:02:41 AM
Bitcoin will be regulated whether we like it or not. It is difficult to regulate our addresses and bitcoin wallets, it will be easy to regulate our bitcoin spending: when we buy physical goods from website, when we exchange for other crypto or fiat. Governments can force us to declare bitcoin ownership on our tax returns. I believe it is better to interact with regulators, to educate them that bitcoin is not an "evil" technology.

Yeah that worked splendidly well with Lawsky heh  Roll Eyes

And no, government will never force me to declare and report whatever amount of Bitcoin I possess. It is none of their business.

If the government treat bitcoin as money or property, you have to declare it.

I think it would be too hard for them to force people to declare their amount bitcoin, i do belive they'll try, don't get me wrong, but no way they could keep track of everyone's wallets, yeah maybe some will, but even those will probably only declare ONE of many wallets lol no chance in hell they'll manage (hope im not eating my words in 20 years time)

71  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Are you holding your bitcoin for a price increase? on: November 05, 2015, 01:40:56 AM
Congrats to those who able to sell. Its not surprising like others feel when the price is rapidly high. No worries. As long as the price are in new floor now unlike the $250 range for a months,it is alright. Hold more folks.

Im hoping for a this to be a new floor too. (although i would be happy for them to drop to make a few more purchases lol) i think a 350-400 $ mark will give the btc some more weight, i think the price may start to rise again within the next couple days though.

73  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Bitcoin will be banned ?? on: November 05, 2015, 01:09:09 AM
i dont think there is anything they can do to "literally" stop or kill Bitcoin, You cant kill an idea (or any  other Alts for that matter), however i do worry about government crackdowns on digital currency's, cause no matter what country your in, or who your government is, the one thing they all have in common is how serious they are about Not fucking about with their money! and bitcoin (the way i see it anyways) kind of does just that, or at least strips the power of money control away from the Big guys, and gives it to the people.

We will always be able to send/receive bitcoin, for many of years to come, but i can remember a time back when i used to torrent all day every day, now you cant get to any of your favorite torrent sites without jumping through a few proxy's,
i remember when i first stumbled across them when i was younger i didnt know anyone (in person) that knew about torrents, then there was the phase where everyone knew about them a few years later and when i say everyone i mean the general public, hey i even remember my friends mum who i think is in her late 50s downloading torrents, but now where in a stage where although you can still download torrents willy nilly, the average person cant anymore or isnt at all bothered to go out and look for ways around the blocks to getting to them, i fear the same for bitcoin, what major retailers will be willing to accept bitcoin if the big governments are busy trying to lock them down? sure ill still be able to send bitcoins to my friend and he will probably gladly accept them, but isnt the goal for me to be able to send bitcoins to his mum, or my mum or just the average person and they can now go out and spend their coins without the hassle of Searching for a place to spend them?

Bitcoins need room to thrive, sure they'll survive but surviving is the easy part.

My nearest bitcoin ATM is a 1 hour drive away from me, not the most convenient, i dream of a day where i can walk 2 mins from my house to my local shop, and use one.

ok in the blockchain app. look for something like "import key" or "paperwallet" then scan your "PRIVATE KEY" not the public key. and it should sweep the funds over to your blockchain account.
btw public address are something you use to receive payments ( if you gave me your public key, i can then send you money). and private keys are used to spend the balance ( if you gave me your private key, i now own all your bitcoin on that wallet). so never send anyone your private key, or give it to a shady third party company. in this case you are giving it to blockchain and they are fairly reputable so you are fine.

i looked through the app (on iphone) i cant find where it says anything like paperwallet or import key, is it a thing where i can scan it anytime? for instance if i cant do it now on my blockchain app i can transfer it elsewhere? for example to my coinbase account? (which i havent actually finished setting up, theyre asking for my passport, but its out of date so ive requested for a new one so while i wait for that hopefully i can just have the paper wallet in a secure place?)

Thanks for the info on the public & private keys too, (im never sending anyone to get coins for me again lol now i feel like i was really careless in letting somone else handle the paper wallet with both keys on it, even though its not a vast amount of btc on there and its someone i trust)

ive realized after some thought maybe i should have advertised the price in GBP rather than BTC (although i want to trade in person in a public place for btc)

£7500 Asking price, however, Very much open to offers.

Im fairly new to bitcoin, & my plan is to do both, no different from how i (and probably most others) operate anyways, the way i see it, i want to hold on to as much BTC as possible but when i say hold on to, i mean no different from how i "hold" on to my  money or savings now, ill save the vast majority of it (once i have a majority lol), but spend a few satoshi here and there when & if needed but ill never spend spend spend till i have none left, ideally i want to get to a possition where i have at least 1Bitcoin in any given time.

Current goal: 10

Current bitcoins: 0.005xxxxxx

Opened up a wallet a few days ago =) After weeks of watching videos and reading up on the coin, I can see its potential so yeah i would like to hold on to a few.
