So basically you are saying you don't want to wait for the ASIC and you want to pay 4 times more for nearly 4 times less the hashing power of the upcoming jalapeno?

...but I'll have the world's coolest shell server....Wink

Hmm, where did you read about that? On the meetup wiki page? I don't think that's actually been happening. I'm a member of the associated facebook page, and there's nothing going on there. I'm working with samadamsbeer from the forum to get something started in Boston, so I'd love to hear from you if you've got any ideas or you'd like to help out. If you've got any contacts at the universities, that would be great.

Yes, I read it on the meetup wiki page. I don' t have facebook, so can't join that group. I'm up for a meetup. I'm coming from the south shore, so something on the red line would be great. We could start small and just meet somewhere for drinks, food, and coins.

tapatalk has a long history of exploits. If people want it, great, but don't force it on all of us. I'd rather use the mobile browser than tapatalk, personally.

Rather than go crazy with mining, I'm thinking about getting the ButterFly Labs Single and just leaving it running 7x24 in my office. I filled out their contact form to learn about shipping delays, but so far haven't heard anything back. Does anyone actually have one of these devices? Does it work? How long did it take to receive after ordering?

And yes, I realize there is a new ASIC coming out, but $600 seems throwaway for a cool cube, $1300 seems like an investment.

As a newbie, I can't reply to anything outside this forum yet. New Englanders are conservative for the most part. They're still catching on to this Internet thing; not sure if it's a fad or not.

I've read there's some sort of Saturday meetups in Harvard Sq. When I'm not traveling, I can probably make them once a month or something.

So far $100. Pondering dumping in $10k or more to play the market.

Having used this method to get started. My issue with using CVS and their red moneygram phone is that roughly zero people use the phone around here. The photo center person said I was the first person to use the phone since they remodeled the store two years ago.  There are also at least two cameras on you at the phone, so if your thought was to be somewhat anonymous, surprise!

Hello from the environs around bahston in the state of Massachusetts.

Been following, reading, and pondering bitcoins for a long while. According to localbitcoins, there aren't many of us around here. They're all in NH pretending to live in a free state or something. Wink
