Some thoughts for your question:
The Fork itself will not determine weather ETC or ETH will be successful in the long run. but it did fuck over the original holders of Etherium by making them choose a path so to speak, if they chose wrong it could be devastating. However it is entirely possible for both coins to do well, ongoing.

No way, no chance we need real currency in order for decentralized currency to work

I actually do believe that this will happen one day but it will take something major to happen first, that major thing will be the mass adoption of bitcoin. Once enough people begin to use BTC it will slow the transaction speed to a point that it is no longer a competitive speed for a comfortable transaction. once it is not comparable to its competitors and older services such as western union become a more feasible form a wire transaction again Bitcoin will cease to be used. However a new coin will surely take its place having fixed all issues bitcoin has currently. There are already millions of new coins that come out on a variety of exchanges every day. Any one of them can be the next Bitcoin that is only worth fractions of a penny right now.
But in short, yes , just first it will require two things
1. Mass adoption of BTC 2. Failure of BTC to compete due to over usage of blockchain
Also even after that happens i Believe people will still trade BTC for years and years just as collectors do with baseball cards just because it will always have been the first big crypto coin
We it can still be a commodity, gold do not have a wire transaction but look at its a price even if it is just a type of stone or metal. I think something can come up once there will be a problem with the speed of transactions. Cmon dude, Gold has many uses outside of currency, its used as jewelry, its used on circuit boards in almost all modern technology. I don't believe Bitcoin would become a commodity if it failed, it would merely become a collectors item as i stated previously.

Lisk, Waves and NEM have a good chance to reach adoptation in the next years. The foundations are very good for each of these coins and they start to reach more and more people.
It is always difficult to tell for sure, but I'd focus on the ones that have highest potential vs market cap. E.g. it is more likely for a 20-50 mil coin to double or tripple in value than one that is valued at 200-500 mil.
Imo, the real surge in altcoin prices started by ethereum will soon follow to the other coins as well. They are waiting to explode!
I hope so, how do you guys feel about monero?

Back in the day I had all my liteCoins on BTC-E and decided to move them to Vircurex due to some news I heard about Russia putting pressure on bitcoin exchanges at the time, worst decision of my life as all my lite coins were stolen by Vircurex. Just curious its a few years later, do people still use BTC-E? is it safe?
Define safe.. Yes, i use it, yes, i trust it. But it's not so easy to call anything safe, being unregulated and what not. Anyways they always acted right by me, and especially on that hack way before, when they reverted trades on their damage, and reimbursed all users for losses.. IMHO, they're one of the best, but everyone should use their own rationing. Either way, i wouldn't keep any funds on exchange. Trade and withdraw, still the safest way. Definitely solid advice

i remember the surge to the moon and the time that everybody could mine bitcoin back at their home with their PC and only using a decent GPU and earn a lot of money doing this. but sadly i was too lazy to start mining bitcoin back then ![Sad](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/sad.gif) We ordered one of the first Asic Miners in 2012 and we were also too late to the game for bitcoin, I sold my half to a friend who set up a mining room and still makes good money to this day trading tghe machines around and mining altcoins

I hope we are still in the "Good time" and bitcoin will continue to progress. Hopefully in a few years' time, I will tell others that each post on bitcointalk would give me 300 bits (which could be a big amount in 2020!).
Where do I Sign up? ![Cool](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/cool.gif)

Check out GEOCOIN
Yes Geocoin already has this feature but it's not about pokemon, I read a lot of bad things about pokemon how you could endanger yourself and others chasing pokemon and this would be coin could do the same to it;s players.. GEOCOIN is ahead of the times then because they are already working on geocashing. GEOCOIN sounds interesting, I can look it up, or you can just tell me , whats GeoCashing?

I heard the rise of the ETC is due to the pump by the bitcoin owners. So they like the hard fork of the coins.
The bitcoin price dropped 20% in the last few months. The ability to pump the ETC has reduce a bit. both of you are only relating two things that has no relationship with each other. bitcoin and ethereum rise and falls has nothing to do with each other. ETC is being pumped because why not, it is the hot topic of these days and there is a lot of profit in it. but BTC has experienced a drop because of the bitfinex hack and neither BTC rise nor its fall has anything to do with ethereum and its price. I heard some developers will not support the ETC. So the ETC price has dropped about 40% in the last few days. The ETC price has recovered somewhat. It seems the ETC investors are quite rich, they can absorb big dump. in no way did a hard fork ever mean the price would not go up, and i also do not believe the big dump is coming, as its not the most profitable way for the hacker to sell of his stack

I really do not believe the hacker will ever dump and heres why
1. It attracts a ton of attention of the blockchain 2. it makes more financial sense to sell of slowly during highs and cash in as much as possible
therefor I conclude both coins will be around for a long time and one day we will reminisce and say "remember when we thought there would be a huge dump and wed all get screwed"

I mean I don't know to what degree you can call something a scam, to me its a scam if the devs make promises they don't keep with the intent of screwing over the invested people, but the only promise that has been made is that there will be two coins, it was sheisty thing to do to hard fork if you ask me, but how is it a scam exactly? As long as both coins continue to exist, and function properly, they technically fulfilled their promises.
