Lore "Melinda" Wallet

Today I downloaded and installed the new "Melinda" Lore wallet (win64.zip), I was amazed at how fast it synced without using a bootstrap. After a small test transfer to the new wallet, I've moved all my local coins onto the Lore wallet. You cannot run both your old .qt wallet and the Lore wallet at the same time so in order to transfer your coins you will have to copy the receiving address from your Lore wallet once it has synced > close the Lore wallet > open .qt wallet > paste your Lore wallet address into the send function of the .qt wallet > send coins > close .qt wallet > reopen the Lore wallet and ensure coins have arrived > coins will begin staking after 8 hrs. in the wallet.

I'm still waiting on the coins to begin staking but I have both received and sent coins from the Lore wallet. At this time I'm seeing no issues with this wallet.

67  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] [PPC] PPCoin Released! - First Long-Term Energy-Efficient Crypto-Currency on: January 23, 2018, 05:00:42 AM
Hay guys

Been awhile since Ive posted on bitcointalk. Quick question hopping someone can help? So back in 2012/13 i grabbed a heap of different cryptos ppc being one. While the price is high i wanted to sell some for $AUD? Cant find any exchange here in oz that will do it, so it look like ill have to trade for LTC or XRP etc then sell for AUD. The two exchanges here that deal with altcoins are BTCMarkets (they dont deal with PPC though) and Coinspot (You can buy and sell but you can cant send PPC from another PPC wallet to your account to trade. So im stuck. Any of you good people have advice on whats going to be the easiest and cheapest way to cash out some PPC.

Cheers

Jono

To save some high costs of xferring BTC  (like selling your ppc and moving btc around), I often trade a give altcoin (PPC) for DOGE; move the doge to where I want to buy or whatever (it's accepted most everywhere, fast confirms, and very low transaction fee).     I recently  made a private trade that way, where I didn't use my btc to send to the seller; I just used my btc sitting on the exchange, bought doge, and sent it to him.  Cheap.
Not sure if this is exactly what you were asking, but it's an idea.......

Yes, combine BTC transfer fees with what CB charges, and watch your profit melt away into some black hole somewhere.  I was totally shocked how much it costs.......
Not only should "buyer beware", but seller too!

I should've held my coins and made a node, instead of taking a fairly decent profit......then I watched the price go higher.  and higher.  Sad

Evrial Trojan Switches Bitcoin Addresses Copied to Windows Clipboard

https://www.bleepingcomputer.com/news/security/evrial-trojan-switches-bitcoin-addresses-copied-to-windows-clipboard/

A new information stealing Trojan called Evrial is being sold on criminal forums and being actively distributed in the wild. Like most infostealing Trojans, Evrial can steal browser cookies and stored credentials, but this Trojan also has the ability to monitor the Windows clipboard for certain text, and if detected, modify it to something else.

First discovered and tracked by security researchers MalwareHunterTeam and Guido Not CISSP, by monitoring the Windows clipboard for certain strings, Evrial makes it easy for attackers to hijack cryptocurrency payments and Steam trades. This is done by replacing legitimate payment addresses and URLs with addresses under the attacker's control.

Evrial takes control of the Windows clipboard

Evrial's most interesting feature is that it will monitor the Windows clipboard for certain types of strings and replace them with ones sent by the attacker. This allows the attacker to reroute a cryptocurrency payment to an address under their control. While clipboard monitoring is common with programs like this, MalwareHunterTeam has told BleepingComputer that modifications are much more rare.

For example, bitcoin addresses are not the easiest string of text to type into a program or website. Due to this, when someone sends bitcoins to an exchange or wallet, they typically copy the address that the coins should be sent to into the Windows clipboard and then paste that address into the other app or site that is performing the sending.

When Evrial detects a bitcoin address in the clipboard, it replaces that legitimate address with one under the attacker's control. The victim then pastes that address into their app, thinking its the legitimate one and not realizing its been replaced, and clicks send. Now when the bitcoins are sent, they go to the attackers address rather than your intended recipient.

Evrial is configured to detects strings that correspond to Bitcoin, Litecoin, Monero, WebMoney, Qiwi addresses and Steam items trade urls.

Evrial steals passwords documents

In addition to monitoring and modifying the clipboard, Evrial will also steal bitcoin wallets, stored passwords, documents from the victim's desktop, and a screenshot of the active windows.  All of this information will be compiled into a zip file and uploaded to the attackers web panel ..............

Thanks for this info!  It's the first I've heard of it, and hopefully the anti-virus folks will have protection pushed out soon....

No way should you store coins long term on an exchange.....  unless you also like driving on the wrong side of the road at random times, lol

IMHO

76  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN]Bitcore- BTX - SEGWIT - lowest fee - hybrid fork 1:0.5 of Bitcoin on: January 23, 2018, 03:47:56 AM
So are there no others in this thread that got the wrong amount this week?  Last week I had 740 BTX and got a drop of 37 BTX (5%).  This week I had 725 BTX and got a drop of 17 BTX (about 2.5%).  I'm quite upset and I really would like to have an explanation.  I love the coin otherwise...

You obviously sent some BTX to another address or you sold some on exchange. If you do so, coins are moved to change addresses in your wallet. This is normal behaviour in qt-wallets. Check your preferences about "coin control" and register the new address for AIRDROP as well. This will fix the problem and you'll get 5% again for all of your coins on next monday.

This is a neat forum and collection of knowledge--no matter what question anyone has, someone out there has the answer!

77  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Vertcoin [VTC][ANN] Segwit Activated | ASIC Resistant Decentralized GPU Mining on: January 23, 2018, 03:45:38 AM
Ok, I confess ignorance, and I don't see the answer to this anywhere:

With regards to VTC, what is the difference between the "electrum" wallet and the "regular" wallet?

Thanks for help!

Electrum wallets are basically "cloud" wallets except they use a deterministic password (usually 8 to 12 words) as a seed to store your coins. Makes it so its not dependent on you running a full node for VTC, though that can assist overall network health

Ok, understood.......Thank you very much!
