Cases don't really affect the temperature that much, what you really need is more/more powerful fans or water cooling. If you already have a MS-I, I'd recommend cutting a hole in the side panel and mounting a large intake fan. You can also hack up the front panel for better airflow. Also make sure that you have the fans all exhausting in the same direction E.G. Intake in front and exhaust in the back.

But if you're intent on spending a bunch of money the best idea by far is to improve the cooling on the video cards specifically. The is a great replacement cooler for 7950/7970 cards... But it's quite expensive. I personally would try removing the stock shroud and strapping on additional fans with zip ties.

Anyway, the main point I'm trying to make is that the case is not terribly important to the cooling of the GPUs, what you need is more cooling.
I sold the MS-I case already so i'm on the market for a new one. The reason i'm asking for a good case for mining is, because some have already have good cooling solutions? For example already have fans fited in front/back/top.

I would actually consider ARCTIC Accelero Xtreme 7970 if it's 100% that it would help. I checked and it costs 53eur wich aint that  big of a deal. I now have 1 card at work in some random no-name case and it works at 70 C, 65% fan. If i put a second card in they both hit 85+ C with fan 90%+. I dont want an airplane taking off in my office Smiley

How would that work, strapping on the fans? I have never tried/heared of that, got any additional advice?

thanks

he probably wants to mine scrypt...
Yes, scrypt. According to my calculations, USB miners will never ROI.

I know that, but it would look strange having a milk case on a table at work wouldnt it? Cheesy That's why i want a case for 2 GPU at work.

I use the exact same settings on my sapphire 7970, with exception of not setting shaders but thread concurrency to 8192 and it works 760khash. Clock is set to 1080/1500 1,13v, 80 C in a computer case, not open air.

Hi,

im looking for a computer case that can accomodate 2 GPU cards (2x 7950/7970) and not run too hot, so i can take it to work to mine there with some free electricity. I have tried Thermaltake commander  MS-I and it didnt work out too good. I want the cheapest possible case that can keep the temperatures under 80 C.

Was thinking of this guy Antec DF-30:

300w looks like ALOT doesnt it?

looks more like a 7950 to me Smiley do you mind sharing from what store you bought them from, the ones im usually buying from dont have them yet...damn it Smiley

Yo, ive had 8 go. Here is a video of one i made earlier

Haha nice one that you got it on tape Cheesy Looks like you jumped, so did i when it happened to mine Cheesy

Lol, yeah, I jump every time.  Even when I know it's going to happen.

So you expected this? I thought you was just recording randomly Cheesy

That sucks, imagine what would happen if its mining and no one is around.

It's not a problem.  The failure happens the exact same way every time.  It goes like this:

1. Rig is mining its own business, working along nicely
2. Rig completely shuts down for no apparent reason
3. Owner sees the rig is off and goes to check it out
4. Inspect the rig, everything looks fine, confused as to why it shut off
5. Thinking everything is OK, switches the rig back on
6. BANG!

The pop doesn't happen until someone physically turns the machine back on after the actual failure.  So there's no risk of causing a fire while nobody is around.

This is the exact way it happened to me Smiley

I think 7990 will be better in terms of speed , they work 1400khash+ dont they? For 650€ wich is supposed to be the cost of 290x you can get 3x 7950 and get 1800khash+ out of it. I doubt 290x will be able to top that.

The 280x might be best/most optimal mining card in terms of €/khash if they come out at 200€ and have the same speed as 7970.

This is what happened to my 3 weeks old gigabyte today, had to put out a fire  Huh It poped while i turned on the PC, not while mining Cheesy

Office production may not allow water as water is conductive, also when something changed, you will have to buy waterblock needed, that is repeatable. If you care this, I suggest you to use mineral oil cooling system by puget if you cannot afford Novec solution. same effects but safer.

P.S I used to discuss with 3M. Novec solution is close to oil cooling, acting different as when you move your board out of the box, the board will get dry later on which is pretty fast. Suggest to contact with 3M for a demonstration if interested.
This is my personal office that i rent, i can do whatever i want. What is 3M? Can you explain please. This oil thingie looks very interesting has anyone actually tried it for mining? Cheesy

Hi,

im looking for advice regarding water cooling of my gpu's. I know it probably isnt very cost effective for mining, the reason why im doing this is so i can move 1 or 2 rigs to work where electricity is free. The problem that i have is that it's a pretty small office (12m² ~ 129.17ft²) and it can get very hot overnight and i'm not allowed to have the window open when im not there because then the alarm will go off.

So my question is:
1. Would watercooling solve/lower the exaust heat?
2. How about noise? I'd like to keep it to a minimum as it is a workplace and it would be annoying to listen to all the fans blowing.

1. No, you will produce the same amount of heat. It just gets moved out of the computer and into the room faster.

2. Yes, it can significantly reduce noise. I have two HD 6970's that sounded like hair dryers at full load. Now on water you can barely hear anything.

1. Are you sure about this? It doesnt compute with me how can a GPU that's on about 45C generate same amount of heat then a GPU on air with 80C for example?

2. That i like Smiley

Ouch that sucks, i feel you pain...personally i will never ever again buy a gigabyte card.
77  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Gigabyte WF3 7950 on: September 20, 2013, 11:03:20 AM
holy shit looks like a poor design. So even if i get a new replacement card it will be a ticking time bomb Cheesy Should probably just sell it and get a sapphire/power color
78  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Gigabyte WF3 7950 on: September 17, 2013, 12:03:33 PM
I had the costum bios installed 1,069V , it didnt run that hot at all about 75C
79  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Gigabyte WF3 7950 on: September 17, 2013, 11:56:16 AM
Does warranty apply to this? I sure hope so Cheesy Did this happen only to gigabyte cards or 7950 in general?
80  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Gigabyte WF3 7950 on: September 17, 2013, 11:41:28 AM
Thermaltake 850w, no powered riser on this one, there is only one more 7950 currenty in the mobo so power should be sufficent.
