The DEATH of NXT

Yeah I don't know if anyone knows exactly where it's coming from but the concept of nxt and all the features certainly threaten the status quo (BTC/LTC) etc. I wouldn't be surprised at all if its coming from elsewhere in the crypto community.

Would NXT's built-in marketplace make Tor-markets obsolete? If that's the case, obviously the attackers want to kill NXT, because it competes with the Tor markets.

I hate dgex Angry

I'm finalizing a NXT-BTC exchange platform at https://ecash.io. It should go live before monday. It will offer 2FA / withdrawal SMS notification / and cloudflare business-class DDOS protection. Will keep you posted once it goes live. Server will run an Armory watch-only Bitcoin wallet. No funds on the server, everything is cold storage.

If the only thing needed to access an address is the password, what would happen if more than 1 addresses have the same password?
you would access the same account which is why choosing a truly strong and unique password is of key importance

e.g. try to put "test" as password and you'll see that you have access to that particular test account

I know that it's very unlikely to use the same long password in 2 different addresses, but the problem is that someone could just spam different passwords and randomly hit some existing addresses.

I found one just by guessing:

qwertyuiopasdfghjklzxcvbnm
(I did not steal the coins, they were gone already.)

I guess this is the 12345 of long passwords!

Eventually, even long passwords will have a top 1000 of most used. People are too lazy to invent secure passwords. Popular song lyrics, poems, whatnot. Avoid anything that makes any sense.

65  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Best strategy to make more coins out of your current coins? on: November 23, 2013, 02:58:55 PM
Well, I thought there are some easy strategies but seems like not. The way "sell on high - buy on low" is the best of course but if only we would know when the highs and lows will happen Smiley

By the way, I think, for me, it is too risky to give my coins away to others sorry.

The price keeps going up so fast, it's too difficult to try. I tried selling high, buying low, bit the price never came down again Smiley So I had to buy back higher. It just keeps going up.

I can't help but think of inputs.io and how that ended.  Roll Eyes

Yeah , the best advice for marketing would be to go for , ecash.sx not .io.
People will immediately associate you with inputs.io and that's not a good start.

I just spoke to the dev of https://coinsafe.io/ (coincidence)
and you should seriously get rid of the .io domain too.

The mere mention of an io domain is sending me goosebumps.
Good luck and I love Amsterdam.

Thanks! I see, bad experience with .io! I would love to acquire ecash.com, but it's $60K. Will need an investor first.

I could try branding as www.ecashio.com, which I also acquired.

Yes I agree, but Inputs.io kept a hot wallet on the web server. I will not do that, it will be a watch-only armory wallet. Transactions signed on the offline computer.

I'm still not receiving withdrawals emails.

I get the feeling as if Bitstamp was robbed and they sneakishly shut down withdrawals.
71  Bitcoin / Project Development / eCash.io - unbreakable cold wallet storage service on: November 20, 2013, 12:51:25 PM
Hi guys!

I need your help. I'm starting a venture for crypto-banking services at https://ecash.io. The idea is to launch wallet and merchant services for Bitcoin. Please give me your feedback, to build the BEST Bitcoin wallet online. FREE cold wallet storage service. It works like this:

Cold wallet features:
  • No contract, no KYC, no AML needed (storage only)
  • Bitcoin Armory webserver, i.e. with wathing-only wallets (armoryd; https://github.com/etotheipi/BitcoinArmory)
  • Watch-only wallets have no private keys - they cannot be used to send BTC, only to generate addresses and receive BTC

Account security:
  • username/password
  • 2FA / Google Authenticator (recommended)
  • Security questions upon each failed login attempt (optional)
  • Email confirmation required for withdrawals (required)
  • SMS text message notification for withdrawals via www.twilio.com (optional - your actual phone number is hidden, not shown in the account)
  • 12-24 hour withdrawal delay

If you want to withdraw 10 BTC, this happens: login with 2FA -> request withdrawal -> confirm via email -> receive SMS notification -> wait 12 hours.

Remember, this is a cold (offline) wallet service. We sign transactions on an offline computer, not connected to the internet. I will launch this early December 2013. Next step is a secure hot wallet (online wallet), and merchant services.

In early 2014 I will register as a Money Transmitter Company in The Netherlands / Amsterdam. Registered merchants can then accept BTC and receive EUR, GBP or USD payouts. P.S. eCash.io will not be an exchange, instead we will work with Bitstamp.

Please tell me your ideas to improve my service. Hope to launch very soon.

Have you heard of PayPal Galactic? https://www.paypal-galactic.com/

PayPal is working on interplanetary payments.

Of course, Bitcoin is essentially ready for the universe, as long as there's internet.
73  Economy / Exchanges / Re: www.BITSTAMP.net Bitcoin exchange site for USD/BTC on: November 20, 2013, 10:44:59 AM
How is the price fluctuating if no one can log in?
Watching http://www.bitcoinity.org/markets/campbx/USD Im still seeing trading going on. Just not very much

Some people can still do API trading. I suspect this is how Coinbase gets their coin from Bitstamp.
74  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: www.bitstamp.net - owner has denied your access to the site. on: November 20, 2013, 10:30:31 AM
I think it is only matter of time when something happen and next time it will not be fun like before when someone lost thousands of bitcoins worth of nothing.
This time people take a shotgun and try to express their intentions more precisely instead of waiting for court judgement which hardly help.

Shotguns indeed. Imagine you bought at $800, want to get your BTC out. This isn't a game anymore.
75  Economy / Exchanges / Re: www.BITSTAMP.net Bitcoin exchange site for USD/BTC on: November 20, 2013, 08:44:31 AM
I'm not receiving withdrawal confirmation emails. And the site is excruciatingly slow this morning.
76  Economy / Exchanges / Re: MtGox withdrawal delays [Gathering] on: November 19, 2013, 01:06:26 PM
im thinking of transferring btc to gox from stamp to take advantage of the price jump. then selling and withdraw but nervous about the time delay it would take for eu bank transfer. its about 2k, anyone do the same recently? any hints on how to speed it up like making 4 withdraws of 500 or would it not help?

You can't get your money out of Mt.Gox, so why even try?

SEPA to Gox can take 10 business days (because SEPA can be recalled).

78  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Is MT.Gox a total joke? on: November 17, 2013, 06:46:43 AM
The US froze their Dwolla account with several million $USD. Meaning that Mt.Gox may have liquidity problems since.

Also, Mt.Gox has a 3 million $USD monthly withdrawal limit for their European banks. This is why SEPA transfers take up to 8 weeks.

And the fact Mt.Gox was not FinCen registered in the US to do business with Americans.

All that and the 80 million $USD Coinlab lawsuit.

Etc. etc.

I pulled BTC out of Mt.Gox a month ago.
79  Economy / Economics / LPPL Market Watch: The Bubble Index: Bitcoin on: November 17, 2013, 06:34:30 AM
I asked the science guys behind The Bubble Index if they could apply their analysis to Bitcoin. This is based on science to predict market crashes. See this TED video.

Luckily they were kind enough to do the analysis:

Quote
In this post I will respond to a request to publish an analysis on the Bitcoin/USD index (Mt. Gox). Based on these graphs, there is quantitative evidence to suggest that the recent increase in the Bitcoin/USD has been the start of a bubble. While The Bubble Index: Bitcoin has not reached its highest levels seen earlier this year, investors in the currency should be cautious.
