It's called farming, rates are difficult to establish as they depend on several factors, the more data you store on your node the better.
However to get that data you need to be online 24/7, have good, reliable internet and more people and companies uploading files to the network.

It is pretty competitive as there are tons of farmers, I've been farming on a spare machine since test group A, over time got quite a few SJCX.
It is not advisable to spend a lot of money on hardware (namely HDs) for Storj right now however as storage demand increases, opportunities follow.

As things progress determining rates for sharing storage may become easier.

In the meantime you can keep an eye on current monthly payouts to have a very rough idea.

Oh wow, some hefty prices already... I knew this was going to be a rare and very sought after series...
Wish I had been quick enough to grab a set too!

The other point I forgot to mention we have seen many new sellers recently, people who may have bought coins directly from Mike when they were released.
Some do collect them some just want to make a little profit, some others may see their BTC under a hologram (at recent prices) like an opportunity to cash in.

I think also the BTC price going down a bit may have helped. I tend to agree with Gatorelf too, Bitcoin has been talked about a lot in mainstream media since it's price surpassed gold price for a while. The Encyclopedia also has had an article/review on Bitcoin.com a week or so ago. More collectors are very welcome! Every little helps I guess.
