Hey sorry if this is a stupid question, but I'm a bit confused regarding Digibyte having a pre-mine, and announcing it as if it is a positive feature?

Yes it's positive.

Okay haha, would you mind telling me why?  I'm just curious.

The premine was for giveaways and the Devs, 50/50. Don't mind the short, weird replis you get, there is a nice mix of kids and adults here as I've experienced.

But doesn't that inflate the currency? Pretty sure that's bad :^)

Please add DGB. Great Coin, great community, great communication, great future. I am sure they will go up to 10 $ at least.
They are honest, they are open, they are clever. Thanks DGB.

You do realize 10 dollars a coin would mean 10x bitcoin market value, right?
The Bitcoin marketcap went from 200 million to 12 billion in 2013. Thats a 60x increase. All news points to another 10x to 20x times increase this year. That's 100- 200 billion by the end of 2014. Is it not possible for DigiByte to capture a part of this market? This is tiny compared to the 60 trillion in currency being traded world wide. At the end of the first year there will be 4 billion DGB in circulation, it will take 4 more years for there to be 12 billion DGB out there total.  Do the math, it is very possible. Get some while you still can.
> All news points to another 10x to 20x times increase this year.
No it doesn't, expect 2000 by the end of this year, optimistically, that is if the situations in China don't fuck up.
>Is it not possible for DigiByte to capture a part of this market?
No, do you know how many alt coins there are that do what you do? Plus you've inflated your market to shit.
Silly Ginger, we all do love your pessimism Grin

Just trying to be realistic, this coin is not reaching a 200 billion market cap, ever.

It might not, but I think you are over-estimating the size of a number like 200 billion in the scope of where crypto may well go in the next 5 years.

That figure is 20x bitcoin's current market worth. Diminishing returns is a thing, Bitcoin won't just keep doubling forever.

Total world GDP is somewhere in the realm of 70 trillion, that is 70,000,000,000,000.  200,000,000,000 is a relatively tiny number when your speaking in terms such as these.  Remember, Bitcoin is just growing up and has a VERY limited adoption at the moment.  Unless something terrible happens, or there are some fad dynamics in play, Bitcoin is in the infancy of it's growth.  Even if, to those in this community, it feels as though it is nearly mature.

Right because world GDP compares to cryptocurrencies :^)

I'm mining on the official pool hashunt.in, but I can't seem to add a FCK address to the pool, the pool always tell me "invalid address"

Generate a new wallet address, I tested it and it works here.

Where the hell did you get that video made?

Dutch company based in Rotterdam called Funk-e Animations.

Well it's very nice, how much did you pay for it?

The marketing of this coin is really good but there are some flaws, how do you promise faster transactions forever.

More importantly, the developers note they have 0,25% (52,5 million coins) effective pre-mined and state DigiByte should be around 1-10$ so they will have around 52,5 - 525 million dollars worth of coins and what happens when they decide to sell? Well your precious coin crashes.

Not trying to hate here, just critique.

Around 1-10 dollars per coin? You mean 1-10x marketcap of bitcoin? I don't think so. Try 0.0001 dollars a coin

pickaxe still scratching the 51%

at the moment it is at 50,2% of hashing power

It needs to mine 6 blocks in a row to be an issue.

Not at all! That site and the things mentioned in it are embarrassing!

Like I say, it's a great name for a cryptocurrency and if a professional team with actual tech skills developed it I could see it becoming the used currency in the future. As mentioned previously, due to movies and books etc, most people would already make a connection between 'Credits' and a worldwide future currency.

Idk man.. The design is pretty professional and it seems like they're launching marketplace ready, 0 premine, and an innovative new block reward system

Try reading the FAQ bro! :^)

I did read the FAQ. Apart from the vague promises of innovation after listing a few ideas already used by other coins the only other feeling I came away with was if a coin pushed by a professional team were serious, the first iteration of their flagship site would have more than a basic grasp of English.

I hope they do fine. However, with little expertise (as demonstrated by the amateur website) I suspect it will be a waste of an awesome name. Time will tell if I'm right or wrong. We'll see Monday!

Are you seriously shilling this hard? What has digibyte added? "A transparent pre-mine" Wow paint me green and smack me like a disobedient avocado
:^)

The discussion started wasn't about Digibyte being original. You incorrectly made that claim about 'Credits'. A coin doesn't have to be original or innovative to succeed. Indeed, why should it? There are only so many ways to try before you're being original at the cost of using an excellent idea already implemented. I think Digibyte will do well because they seem professional, make things work/look good before releasing it and seem to be putting the effort in.

The only reason I had an opinion about 'Credits' is because the name is brilliant for a cryptocurrency and it would/WILL be a shame when clueless people release a failed version of it. No doubt after somebody could release it again but it will already have been tarnished.

Have some faith buddy boy :^)

Fair enough. We'll leave it at that and hope for the best.

Personally, with the team behind it, and the general principle behind it being for it to be a "used daily" coin. It should have been called simply "Credits" (yes I know there is a "CreditCoin"). But 50,000 Sci-fi movies can't be wrong. "instant" name recognition... Sci-fi fans around the globe would buy, and use it just for the name...hahaha

Or, you could use the name credits for anything lower than 1,000 Digibytes and Digi's for anything above. Sounds correct too, as Digi sounds like a higher number in relation to credits which sound somewhat singular in pronunciation. Credits would be more a known word for small items like groceries, entertainment, cosmetics, clothing etc...while Digis would be reserved for higher priced items like Houses, Cars, Boats, Computers etc..

What are all your thoughts?

Actually after I wrote that it got me thinking about the possibilities of putting together a team to create such coin myself...lol I have some web design skills, but would need to enlist serious talent, a coin like that would need to be rock solid to make it..

I'm afraid some dudes from a tech forum are already working on "Credits"

Here found their site. Looks promising actually... Fuck I might just invest in this

It doesn't look promising at all. It looks embarrassing! It is a great name though. A group who know what they're doing should create it.

coinedup !? this is awesome news.

620  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: ★★ DigiByte ★★ [DGB] - A Professional Cryptocurrency ✈ Now Launched!! ✔ on: January 17, 2014, 08:01:39 AM
We have also received many messages from merchants thinking of using DigiByte as payment system because it makes sense to them once it hits an exchange. They avoid bank fees, there is enough coins to make the price around $1-$10's and they love the name.

Unfortunately, there WILL be a dump.  Every new coin that hits the exchange has an initial pump/dump.  Every single one.  The questions isn't whether the coin will go through the standard cycle of being introduced.  The question is how much real value does the coin have.

A coin with no real value will pump, dump, and then slope downward to 1 satoshi or until 0 volume, it is then removed from the exchange.

The wild ride at the beginning will happen, but the aim to have enough value in the coin that after it does the value begins an upward sloping trajectory or levels out at it's actual value as more coins are mined and market cap grows.

Everyone should be prepared for growing pains.  Just don't be the guy who bought a pizza for 10 million DGB and a year or so regrets giving up a fortune for a pizza.

Yeah cause Digibyte has so much value and innovation, it'll certainly triumph over the early dumps! I mean it's not like there was any pre-mining or double block rewards... Seems pretty dump proof to me.
