gox lag 60 seconds -> panic

I feel a great disturbance in the force.

I'm calling a top here (or very close to where we are now). All that noise about the greenlisting stuff and the fact that even people like Mike Hearn seem to have turned to the dark side is making people increasingly nervous. There will be a huge correction. There will be blood. In order to maximize my profit from the initial shock I'm now increasing the rebalancing threshold of my balancer bot from 11% to 30%.
603  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Electrum 1.9 released on: November 14, 2013, 12:21:43 PM
A few suggestions:
* please make it add the contact automatically when sending
It already does this.

Then I have found a bug because it did NOT do it. Otherwise I would not have had an empty contacts list after my last outgoing transaction.

Here is some more information:

* I had experimented with creating new empty wallets, restoring from seed, etc and then deleted the additional wallets again. Maybe at this time i also accidentally deleted the old contacts list which had contained exactly one entry, namely "MtGox"?

* then the next day I saw that 1.9.4 was available, I installed 1.9.4 over 1.9.2 with pip as described on the download page.

* I started electrum, everything was fine, my wallet and transactions showed up normally, the only outgoing transaction was still labeled "MtGox" but my contacts were empty!

* Then I made another transaction to the same address and labeled it identically "MtGox" and it did not add MtGox to the contacts list, contacts was still empty, however it showed up as "MtGox" in the history list. Could this be because it first checked the existing address labels in the history instead of checking the contacts list for existence of this address/label and then decided to not add it? IMHO It should add it to the contacts list if its not in the contacts list already and not use the existing history labels for this decision.

* please make "add to contacts" an Option the context menu in the history tab

Wallet > New Contact
yes, but doing it with a single click instead of having to switch around and copy paste would be easier. There is already a context menu with some items for things to do with the transaction like "show details" etc. and "add to contacts" would naturally belong in there too. Maybe I should submit a pull request.

Hurra! Erste Einnahmen trudeln endlich bei mir ein! Es geschehen noch Zeichen und Wunder.
607  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Electrum 1.9 released on: November 13, 2013, 09:40:47 PM
Has something happened to the contacts list in 1.9.4?
I have only a tab with an empty list, no controls to manage contacts, no right click. I have labeled a few outgoing transactions, they show with labels in the history tab, I also just made a transaction and gave it a label immediately when sending in the send dialog but absolutely nothing is showing up in my contacts list.

I tried exporting labels, the file corectly contains labels for the addresses, I tried re-importing that file, still no contacts list.

Edit: Found it in the wallet menu. (I'm a new user since 1 week)

A few suggestions:
* please make "add to contacts" an Option the context menu in the history tab
* please make it add the contact automatically when sending
* please add a context menu to the **empty** space in the contacts tab for "add contact".
* Its throwing a lot of exceptions to the console on startup and also during shutdown.
* there is no way to disconnect/reconnect, the network dialog is confusing, what is the "auto connect" option and the list of servers good for if I cannot choose one of them to connect manually?

* I'm a new user, so the above might sound stupid but that are the problems I was immediately confronted with. There are a few more things regarding the user interface that don't seem to be how I would it expect to work but that might better fit into another post.

Die ersten 240 sollen nochmal ihre Adresse überprüfen und ihr OK! geben dann geht die Zahlung raus.

OK!
Alle Angaben (mich betreffend) korrekt. Kann losgehen.
609  Local / Off-Topic (Deutsch) / Re: Candoo/Salazarian BFL Gruppenkauf-Megathread on: November 12, 2013, 06:37:06 PM
ja, die aktuelle Liste muss gepostet werden. Nicht daß noch irgend ein Witzbold auf die Idee kommt zu behaupten er hätte mir die Anteile abgekauft und meine Adresse ändern lässt. Oder die von wem anderen. Also Liste her damit jeder seine Adresse sehen kann.

Code:
for inhaber in liste:
    betrag = inhaber.anteile * ausschuettung
    hau_raus_die_kohle(inhaber.adresse, betrag)
610  Bitcoin / Mycelium / Re: Mycelium Bitcoin Wallet on: November 12, 2013, 01:20:03 PM
Two more requests and then it will be (almost) perfect:

* Please update the German localization (its horrible currently. can't recommend it to new users in that form)
* Please make the option to backup the key(s) more prominent / more obvious for newcomers and as simple and foolproof as possible, not nested 3 levels deep and hidden and not restricted only to one key at a time and only to "external drives" (what is this in the context of a mobile phone anyways? I would have expected to be able to store a password protected backup on the SD-Card and also the option to send it with email (and other apps that implement "send to"))

Otherwise its really a great wallet. Especially I love the option to scan paper wallets. But unfortunately thats all it can be used for currently without a working key backup mechanism.
611  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: why can't mtgox just mail checks to US customers? on: November 12, 2013, 01:06:42 PM
checks are a US thing.

This is true. All others have "cheques" instead.
612  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: ncurses based MtGox live monitor and trading-bot-framework on: November 10, 2013, 04:03:22 PM
in goxtool.py around line 48 there are the sizes defined

Note that after changing your local copies of the files you might need a local git branch or git stash to be able to continue pulling and merging future updates of goxtool (sounds more complicated than it actually is)
613  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Trading app (bot) on: November 09, 2013, 10:01:55 PM
Hi All,
I want to start developing an app for windows or linux that automatically ready the price movements in the market and provides recommendations or acts on them.
Is there any code or other app you are aware of the I can build upon?
I'm already aware of haasonline.

goxtool (see my signature). MtGox only at the moment.
614  Bitcoin / Electrum / hashing the seed or hashing the hex-string representation of the seed? on: November 09, 2013, 08:20:25 PM
I'm playing around with electrum 1.9.2

It seems that with seed_version=4 if I do

./electrum --offline --wallet=testwallet restore

and enter "ffff" as seed I will get different results than when entering "FFFF". Looking into the code it seems you are indeed hashing the string representation of that hex number:

account.py, class OldAccount
Code:
    def stretch_key(self,seed):
        oldseed = seed
        for i in range(100000):
            seed = hashlib.sha256(seed + oldseed).digest()
        return string_to_number( seed )
and seed is the hex string representation of the seed. I guess that cannot be chaned anymore without making it incompatible.

Now I looked into the new seed_version = 6 stuff with bip-32, I simply patched wallet.py to set self.seed_version=6 to trigger the new code paths and it still is hashing the string representation:

Code:
    def create_master_keys(self, account_type):
        master_k, master_c, master_K, master_cK = bip32_init(self.get_seed(None))
        [...]

    def get_seed(self, password):
        s = pw_decode(self.seed, password)
        if self.seed_version == 4:
            seed = s
        else:
            seed = mnemonic_hash(s)
        #todo:  #self.sequences[0].check_seed(seed)
        return seed

shouldn't this line be

Code:
        else:
            seed = mnemonic_hash(s.decode('hex'))

I changed it to see what happens and also inserted a few prints here and there to see whether its handling binary data or hex-strings and now it seems to work correctly and will produce the same keys for "ffff" and "FFFF".

with above patch and bip32 enabled I get the following addresses from "FFFF" or "ffff"

1JFGdf7FsmNZEsPWUZeCRqcKUZF4iTLKjk
1BbHtbsX4ajyb6vVrTtatrUiGMGUtZaVMX
1HjFdepBf9qg8BKmLtRf9iYBWa1YFRV2hp

13k5Zivs8Zw9QUfYcVbG3w8rHV3KjTR2Xk
19hVwRqH57FtFYKyZf2SsEsoEeFJ3aj2NH

and the argument to bip32_seed() is now 974e4be2c4f570e64ec86819bf8d14a66584481993b5e82d6400c78288025c5c40cd6e1d1218107 ee778174af562ceae7e4c31ff206f7cfe5708fb65ba4853f5

Please tell me that this is indeed a bug and not intentional
615  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Electrum "stuck" - showing unverified transactions on: November 08, 2013, 06:03:44 PM
same problem here (electrum 1.9.2 linux)

outgoing transaction had 3 confimations on blockchain already but still showed unverified, -1 transactions in electrum. Network dialog showed Server having latest block, switching servers multiple time (and also trying https instead of ssl) did not help, restarting electrum finally solved it.

This bug should have a high priority, this is one of the most central features of a wallet app and people are expecting it to work: permanently being updated about latest status of payments! If even such basic core functionality is buggy and unreliable it does not inspire trust in the software, especialy for newcomers who are not yet very familiar with how it all works and alternatives of tracking their transactions.

How is this implemented? Does the server push or does the client poll? what happens on reconnect or connect to a different server, what is different from reconnect after program restart? What does it need the blockchain headers for, isn't this what the servers are supposed to handle?
616  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Paper wallets on: November 07, 2013, 12:09:12 PM
why is it important to spend the entire amount?

Because the change of the transaction might have gone to another address in your wallet.

After importing the paper key into your wallet and the full balance shows up simply send the amount of money you won't need immediately to a **new** paper wallet and then burn the old one.

Example (using Multibit as an example):

MultiBit 1.2345 BTC
Paper: 500 BTC

you need 10 BTC from the paper to spend it with Multibit, so first import the key of the paper into MultiBit:

MultiBit: 501.2345 BTC  <- ok, now you have full control over the entire amount in MultiBit
Paper: --> undefined, don't need it anymore, burn it!

now immediately send 490 BTC to a **new** paper wallet

MultiBit: 11.2345 BTC
Paper2: 490 BTC

Done. Now you can spend your 10 BTC and the remainder is safe on Paper again. The old paper key has become integral part of the MultiBit wallet like all other keys in there, you have burnt the old paper because you need every key only once and this one has now become a key in your regular wallet and not a paper key anymore.

617  Economy / Speculation / Re: What is the site that shows Mt Gox order depth? on: November 07, 2013, 11:55:23 AM
Install goxtool (see my signature) to get the most acurate and complete live data from MtGox
618  Economy / Marketplace / Re: [BETA] MTGox websocket API, testers wanted on: October 24, 2013, 02:30:43 PM
This is what I do (python code) and it works (doesn't seem to have ever changed, I never had to change my code):

Code:
self.client.send(json.dumps({"op":"mtgox.subscribe", "key":result}))

result contains the idkey exactly as it resulted from the idkey request. The above code is from goxapi.py around line 1497 in the on_op_result() method.

Mentioned by wonkytonky elsewhere.
Look what happened on Sept 4th, the last time they kissed.

Bid-Sum and Ask-Sum are on different Y-Axis, they cannot touch or cross each other, they live in totally different dimensions.
620  Local / Off-Topic (Deutsch) / Re: Candoo/Salazarian BFL Gruppenkauf-Megathread on: September 11, 2013, 04:20:48 PM
