Vidyo! Vidyo! Vidyo!

Damn, SysRun is out 13 BTC.

I'd like to take credit, but its mostly Goat who put up the BTC. I'm in it for 3, he 10.

boioioioioioioioing!

<edit> Now I see the DIY looking cuts Inaba wrote about. A bit hastily done, but if it works who cares!

2 more days BFL Singlers. The bounty for the unboxing video WILL EXPIRE at the end of day Friday. 13BTC could be yours!

Does anyone have tracking information, or should i concede?
605  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: Can i run cgminer in the background? no window? on: February 21, 2012, 10:48:28 PM
scheduled task on log-in, vbs file running a .bat with hide parameter.

Code:
Set WinScriptHost = CreateObject("WScript.Shell")
WinScriptHost.Run Chr(34) & "C:\cg.bat" & Chr(34), 0
Set WinScriptHost = Nothing

Thanks Transisto, I'll give this a shot on my more clandestine machines.

Alright, where are the tracking numbers today? I'm getting nervous... I may actually lose this bet, unbelievable!  Shocked

perhaps you should not purchase one then

Are you satisfied with the product that you have purchased bombo999?

"When he was in eighth grade, Steve Jobs, later the co-founder of Apple Computer, telephoned William Hewlett, president of Hewlett-Packard. "Bill answered, and I said, 'Hi, you know, uh, I'm 12 years old and I'm trying to build a frequency counter,' " Jobs recalls. Hewlett, a symbol of entrepreneurial success in the Santa Clara Valley, chatted graciously with Jobs for 20 minutes. When it was over, the kid got not only the Hewlett-Packard parts he needed but a summer job at the company as well."

Sounds a lot like investment on an idea despite the lack of a "working prototype" doesn't it?

As someone who feels comfortable quoting the Steve Jobs Autobiography you should know that Steve Jobs didn't start a business when he was 12 years old. He hadn't even met Woz at that time. The first product that they sold was a blue box that was something Woz put together and presented to Steve. The device was exactly as advertised. A prototype existed first. Same with the next device, the apple computer, created for the Homebrew Computer Club, but then spun off into the first product for Apple.

Someone should tell BFL that Customers ≠ Investors. Not even Steve Jobs could pull something like that off.

At the very least it is unethical.

Sorry, who is now saying that it is an outright scam? Your unflagging loyalty is troubling.

Dropt, that was an excellent post, you shouldn't have deleted it

*sigh*  You're probably right.  I feared like i was coming off like a jackass.  However, I too thought it was pretty good, so maybe I'll re-write it.

Is there some contention over BFL not having a working prototype?

No, because it does exist.  I wrote a post regarding this whole fiasco then deleted it, I'm seeing if it can be retrieved.

I'll take that as meaning "Yes (there is contention), because it (the prototype) does exist".

Very confusing. I'll wait for your typed up whateveritis.

97w is bullshit, though.  You aren't mining at 550 MH/s at 97w on a 5970.
I've tested the wattages (via KillAWatt) for my undervolted 2x5970 rig with 0-4 GPUs mining.

Num GPUs
Total Watts
0
175
1
230
2
285
3
340
4
395

At my current settings, each GPU eats 55 watts and generates 530 MH/s. That's roughly 4.82 MH/W. I could probably increase the clock a little bit, and use a more efficient power supply to reach the quoted performance.

A 7970 is significantly more efficient than a 5970.

Who's beating a dead horse? Is it you Syke?

In other news, Who is going to collect that 13 BTC bounty? I thought we'd have something for sure this last weekend.

To collect, we'll need a tracking number posted into this forum AND an un-boxing video.
I dunno how much info can be gleaned from a tracking number, but is it OK to PM it to a mod, who can then post and say it's legit? For 13 BTC, I would do that and an unboxing + setup video, if I ever get a tracking number (and a single) in the first place. Roll Eyes

The deadline is end of day Friday (PST). There were whispers in the #bitcoin chatroom that someone had received a device on Sunday, but I haven't heard anything since.

The address is odd, seems scammy. Happy to be proven wrong.

25E 12th Street
Kansas City, Missouri 64106

That's a 12 story building, usually a suite number is needed for large buildings.

Its # 804, a cheap 1 or 2 bedroom apt., I agree that it has a whiff of something, but Inaba is putting his reputation on the line by backing them. (he has met with them in person)

Apparently ten years experience in FPGA design hasn't netted him enough profit for a real office.

Know much about start-ups?

I huge difference. WORKING PROTOTYPE. That is all.

I don't get it.  Why would a BFL unit have $0 resale value?

Its a very small market, so who would you sell a BFL Single to if the bitcoin experiment fails? your risk with GPUs are mitigated by the resale value that is fairly stable. $0 is a bit of hyperbole, but they make a good point.
617  Other / Off-topic / Re: 1GH/s, 20w, $700 (was $500) — Butterflylabs, is it for real? (Part 2) on: February 20, 2012, 01:12:22 AM

I am sure they never thought it could deliver 1.05 (remember it wasn't an estimate but 1.05 GH 2 digits of significant value) at 19.8W.  That was simply a tactic to freeze out any sales of competitor products.

Which really cuts to the core of the issue, no?  It does the entire BTC community a diservice.  I imagine at least a couple enterprising individuals ceased developing their own products when they saw the "magical" specs for the bitforce.  Flash forward 5 months and loe and behold the actual product is really not that much more efficient than a undervolted 5970.

It is too bad, as the more options for FPGA there are, the better it is for all of us as the proverbial "consumer".

I would love to announce a revolutionary vehicle I invented that gets 90 MPG (based on projections), at a price of $17,000.  I would be inundated with pre-orders and have gobs of cash to then develop my product.  Then when I actually delivered, and it only gets 63 MPG (not much better than a Prius), I would be thrown in jail for fraud.

Point taken, but no one is holding a gun to your head... Are they?! Are you in danger?!

Just got a email from BFL, looks like I will see a rig box by the end of April and a couple more weeks from now for the singles!!

4-6 weeks for the singles? There's a shocker.

I made two orders for singles, so one order will be  late and one will be on time. BFL is starting to catch up.

Starting to catch up? Does anyone but Inaba have one?

Great question. We've got 13 BTC for a tracking number and an unboxing video! If anyone else wants to add to the bounty, PM me.

7.4GH/s in that photo... uh oh, nerdboner.

Ship, Ship Ship!

Inaba, you have the single in your datacenter now, correct? Could it be overheating? I'm seeing the same 30% reduction in performance as before.

<edit>nevermind, appears to be fixed??
