6001  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Michael Saylor buy the bitcoin.Bitcoin prices are likely to rise. on: September 14, 2021, 11:50:05 AM
Bitcoin had a big drop / correction not long ago.
VISA considers accepting crypto payments (in Brasil).
Croatian bike company Greyp Bikes is accepting crypto payments.
MicroStrategy bought more bitcoin.
We are still in the "middle of" bull run.

There are multiple reasons for the price move up. This doesn't guarantees it will (it would be nice though).
And MicroStrategy buys didn't always made the price rise.

Let's also put here a better guarded address, from the HW.

6003  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Increasing bitcoin throughput without centralization on: September 14, 2021, 08:18:03 AM
The development of the lightning network has solved the speed issue with bitcoin transactions, but it is moving its goal to a centralized organization.
I'm interested if it's feasible to improve bitcoin transaction throughput while retaining decentralization.

Another issue, the bitcoin upgrade is coming, and I heard that Bitcoin may include a potential smart contract, but it would still make it appear centralized, is there any way for devs to do that while keeping decentralization?

You seem to have read some... terms... here and there, but haven't really understand them.

1. LN doesn't bring centralization. Not by design. On the other hand, users and their habits may create problems, by keeping their coins at centralized custodian service providers (which will probably open LN channels for them too). But that's not centralization of Bitcoin (network, nodes), it's centralization of funds.

2. Taproot making bitcoin "appear centralized"... wow... what?! No. Not related.
6004  Economy / Speculation / Re: Microsteel keeps buying into BTC on: September 14, 2021, 07:59:06 AM
Although I don't know every single detail, it still appears to be quite risky!

For a company to do what Microstrategy does, they have to have quite high appetite for taking risk. And until now it did pay off.

Microsteel

Is this a mix between MicroStrategy and "balls of steel"?

Though COMIT Network's atomic swaps are available today, other similar projects are in development by other teams. The Farcaster project raised 2727 XMR (worth $650,000 today) to build out a similar trustless atomic swaps implementation. Haveno, a Monero-focused fork of Bisq, is implementing atomic swaps for their XMR/BTC trading pair. Relatedly, cross-chain bridges (with varying degrees of distributed trust) have been announced for Secret Network and Thorchain, which will allow for easy trading with Ethereum and Binance Smart Chain tokens.
6006  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2021-09-03] With Coinbase And SAP, Vast Bank Offers Bitcoin, Ethereum, Cardano on: September 13, 2021, 03:27:24 PM
yes, it will be great news to the users of vast bank if the fees to withdraw and transfer their assets from it is low

Banks are not for those looking for low fees. Exchanges will always beat banks at the exchange fees.
Banks will be used by those who want convenience and trust. It's for the newbies who didn't find yet bitcointalk, and it's for smaller businesses.
6007  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: From History - What is the connection between President Biden and Bitcoin? on: September 13, 2021, 02:03:12 PM
Indeed, it was in the 1990s when Biden accidentally inspired Phil Zimmerman to create “Biden sponsored a bill that scared Paul Zimmerman so much that he finally finished the code for PGP, eventually helping Bitcoin to be born.”

The physics teach us that every action has an opposite reaction  Cheesy
Clearly "the stars" had to be "aligned right" in order to have Bitcoin getting born. I am sure that along the way there have been quite a lot of small bits until this great puzzle got assembled.

Luck is (also) a very important "component" in the history. For example, we are lucky that Bitcoin was born before our death.
6008  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is this a safe Vanity address generator? on: September 13, 2021, 01:46:58 PM
It appears I downloaded it from https://99bitcoins.com/how-to-get-a-custom-bitcoin-address/

vanitygen-0.22-win is the folder name after download.

I've only used it offline and have never had any btc stolen from it but I am genuinely curious if this is a trust vanity address generator.

I saw conflicting things online.

It may be this one -> Vanitygen: Vanity bitcoin address generator/miner [v0.22]
1. The one I've linked is the oldest and most reputed vanity generator I know.
2. Although I remember 99bitcoins as being a legit/ok website, I'd recommend you use the one linked from the bitcointalk thread.
3. There may be newer vanity generators that are better (maybe SegWit too?), but I didn't care that much about them after I've "met" the HD wallets.
6009  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Wirex- Bitcoin Debit Card | Buy Bitcoin | Mobile Banking | Send Money on: September 13, 2021, 12:23:13 PM
I have had good experiences with Trastra after leaving Wirex.

5% spread, same Contis issuer, I see nothing special about them, plus the fact that all their social media TW,FB,Reddit have zero comments good or bad makes me wonder if they have more than a hundred clients.

If Contis is "not a problem", there are more known options for the card, probably with lower fees and spread too (like Binance).
At least Wirex move to MasterCard resulted more reliable cards, or better accepted by merchants.
6010  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: Bitcoin Dust Address Made Simple on: September 13, 2021, 10:24:00 AM
Or freeze the input in your wallet so you never move it.

I think that this is the "best use" for dust.
Second best is consolidate, if you know what you're doing.

1BURNbitcoinBURNbitcoinBURP3vqZJo

Impressive!
I know that there are available scripts to create proper burn address, I know that all it needs is a string with allowed characters/format and then a checksum, but I've never ran one.
And again, your choice of starting string is impressive  Smiley
6011  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: My System for Security/Protection of Hardware Wallets and Valuables on: September 13, 2021, 09:53:06 AM
The only problem in this way of storage is where to place this box, because in case of burglary, the thief has everything valuable and important in one place

Unfortunately most people tend to keep all valuable belongings and papers in one place, so I don't actually see anything unusual here.

For the seed phrases of the hardware wallets I use a stamped stainless steel plate
hidden elsewhere in the house which can also withstand fire.

Oh, impressive! Then the HWs don't really have to stay in that box, right?  Wink
6012  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: Bitcoin Dust Address Made Simple on: September 13, 2021, 08:21:06 AM
I see a bitcoin address which someone says is a dust address but unable to prove if it's actually a dust address.
How will we know if you or someone else doesn't hold the private key to this address. What if you have the private key to this address and someday you decide to spend all the coins in this address.

It is a dust address, not a burn address. I think that you've made a confusion.
If it would have been a burn address, your question would have been valid. For a dust address, it's expected that he does have the private key for it.
6013  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2021-09-13] Money transfer providers may lose $400m to bitcoin wallet’ on: September 13, 2021, 08:14:01 AM
Elsaldoreans

New word?

El Salvador’s latest Bitcoin app, the Chivo Wallet, could ensure that money service providers such as Western Union and MoneyGram lose around $400m in remittance commission.

Probably the numbers will start low, but yes, banks, credit card companies and money transfer services are getting in trouble. People have now means to avoid their overly expensive services.
Maybe that's why VISA/Mastercard are doing moves towards crypto (in an attempt to save themselves), maybe this is one of the reasons I expect merchants happily embrace CBDCs too (unfortunately).
6014  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: Bitcoin Dust Address Made Simple on: September 13, 2021, 08:02:35 AM
I had some dust in my wallet 4 years ago, today its worth 6000$.

This is interesting because it gives one to think that as the price goes up, what is dust today may be a respectable amount tomorrow, and therefore if one waits instead of trying to solve the dust problem today, one may find that the problem has solved itself.

It's also greatly incorrect, as @pooya87 also wrote. This was - by far - not dust, neither counted in Bitcoin, neither counted 4 years ago in US Dollars.

Hopefully this will pick up traction and will become THE universal bitcoin dust address.

Are you aware that begging is not allowed in this forum?
And if it's not begging, then please tell us how would help me to send you, on my expense, bitcoin dust...
6015  Other / Meta / Re: Did you notice that forum have fewer trolls in 2021? on: September 13, 2021, 07:30:19 AM
It may have been decreased, but it's still there. I think that the difference is that people, instead of calling them trolls, started avoiding or even ignoring them. I mean, did you miss proudhon posts, for example?!

Also, OP, are you aware that this sole topic will "break" the statistics for the next years?  Cheesy
6016  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: F1 Formula Sports Racing - Sportsbet.io promotions & discussion thread on: September 13, 2021, 06:53:55 AM
So the FIA decided to give Verstappen a 3 places grid penalty on the next race which will be in Russia two weeks from now.
~
The penalty is a bit too much ~

Thanks for the news, I guess then that I was wrong and it's more Max fault.
Interesting to see that he got bigger penalty than Lewis got at Silverstone. Imho it's not this penalty that's too much, it's the other one that was far too small.

The stubbornness of both drivers was thre biggest reason of the collision and I think it's not the last time that we will see them touch again

I can't agree more. But if this continues, Max will lose fans (me included).
I agree with @boltz that F1 needs - now and then - this kind of drama, but, on the other hand when it's getting too close to getting one or another killed, and it's getting done on purpose, then it's imho too much.

I think that I'd love to see Ricci win again. His happiness is.. contagious  Smiley
6017  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: BITCOIN WALLET on: September 13, 2021, 06:40:07 AM
according to your experience.

My experience may be way different than yours. For me, a Tails USB (or other Linux live USB) with Electrum on it already does the job.
So the question is wrong and incomplete, since the relevant part is your experience: the experience with crypto and the experience with computers.
For newbies I always recommend to look for one of the established hardware wallets that work with Electrum (and learn how to safely install Electrum too); and yes, basically use with Electrum.
6018  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How would you spend 10000 cad on cryptocurrency today? on: September 12, 2021, 05:16:40 PM
Out of 10,000 USD (or CAD), I will invest 70% in BTC, 20% in alt coins while 10% goes to crypto gambling (I know I will lose though).

LOL, interesting choice! I would gamble only after my investment is on good profit, but that's me.
(Although right now my expenses don't allow me invest as much as I'd like, so gambling is for now out of question.)
6019  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: F1 Formula Sports Racing - Sportsbet.io promotions & discussion thread on: September 12, 2021, 04:42:59 PM
Awesome race! I'm so glad and happy for McLaren and their podiums and it was hilarious to see the shoey being done again and this time Zak Brown and Norris taste the great champagne of Ricciardo haha.

Regarding the incident between Max and Lewis , lets be fair and admit that Max is reckless and always have been in this way and its clearly his fault today. I was mad at him when he walked near Lewis and did no bother to check him if we was okay as the halo just saved him from serious injured. Today , Max lost a lot of respect from me ...not that he had much.

Yeah, Lewis' fans use to forget how "nice" he is. One example I remember, when Lewis crashed into Alex Albon in 2019.
Should I also mention the British GP, when Lewis almost killed Max and got only a time penalty?

Imho Lewis is desperate lately that his car is no longer that much better than the others', hence he does the dirty games more often.
But that's me. I have no respect for Lewis for many years, exactly because he does this kind of car crash games when they suit him well and he usually also gets away with minor penalties, if any.

So let's just be happy today for McLaren and hope that Lewis, or Max, or their teams find a way to avoid getting somebody hurt.
6020  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: My System for Security/Protection of Hardware Wallets and Valuables on: September 12, 2021, 04:12:30 PM
What do I store in it?
~
Electronics: Hardware wallets, Encrypted USB drives

Imho that box should contain the backup seed, not the actual hardware wallets; but yeah, it's up to you...
I've seen that it also protects from heat (1/2 hour at 843 degree C, not bad).

I think though that you should at least warn that the link you posted is a ref link. As it is now, I'd say that's against the forum rules.
