6001  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Way to get an iPhone BTC app into the App Store on: April 10, 2012, 05:28:08 PM
Can anyone confirm if I understand this correctly?  The SDK for iPhone is available for free in the Mac App Store to anyone with a Mac computer running Lion, and the SDK includes an emulator for iPhone for app testing.  One can compile the app, but must be part of the $99/year developer program in order to load an application on physical iPhones, even your own phone connected via USB?

I don't think you need to own the licence to run your self-compiled apps. I'm not 100% sure though, since I've had always the licence.

Also you can distribute the app also as a beta to something like 100 users. They don't even need to compile it or anything, and I guess installing for them is pretty trivial.

However, without a very easy installation there won't be much adoption. Technically adept people usually don't understand how easy it must be, so that people will "get it". If you need to do anything that requires some thinking, most people won't bother.

You either need the license, or the phone must be jailbroken.
6002  Economy / Economics / Re: Dwolla Instant's effects on Bitcoin Economy on: April 10, 2012, 05:25:23 PM
It's capped at $500.  So no.

But with enough participants, it will have a small effect.
That's only if people give their legit information so their account doesn't get banned.

Right, but there are more and more bitcoiners who are willing to be identified.

6004  Economy / Economics / Re: Current Bitcoin inflation rate = 35%. Price = stable on: April 10, 2012, 05:13:55 PM
The amount earned by "bankers" depends on the spread between the interest rate the bank borrows money from the central bank at and the interest rate given to household depositors.
You neglect to mention the obvious, that this is only possible through a legal privilege which banks are granted by the state. Normal people are not permitted to obtain central bank deposits. Also you neglect to mention the credit function of banks, i.e. that their income is also increased by the interest charged on loans they grant.

We do not want the spread to be too high.
This is one of my favourite rhetorical instruments, the royal "we". It is just another sign of arrogance, in addition to demanding money for patronising and feeding stuff noone is interested in.

You mentioned previously that definitions are meant to make communication convenient. Well, I'm pretty sure that your "communication" has helped a lot of people to conclude what definition you fit in.

Thank you for tearing this shit apart so I don't have to.

Also, @cunicula, fuck you for suggesting I send you 1/4 of my monthly income for you to answer a simple fucking question in a discussion you jumped into.  If you don't want to be here, find another thread to troll.  It would have taken less of your precious time to answer it than to spew your childish "I'm so important" speech.
6005  Economy / Speculation / Re: Gold collapsing. Bitcoin up. on: April 10, 2012, 04:54:57 PM
Down goes gold...

...Up goes gold...

That's a pretty nice jump.
6006  Economy / Speculation / Re: The flipist method on: April 10, 2012, 04:53:14 PM
the charts never said that there was going to be a breakout to the upside when we were trading in the $4.9s...if anything they said exactly the opposite

This chart is one that indicated an upside breakout.

If you claim that the charts were saying the opposite at the time, you should provide evidence by sharing them publicly after-the-fact.

How does touching resistance indicate a breakout?

How do false breakouts indicate a breakout? It wasn't just the weekly trendline (which is being gradually pushed higher by falsy breakouts and sideways movement). The other indicators I was looking at (as an alternative to flipping a coin) were bid depth, difficulty, and OBV. OBV still neutral/bullish btw.

Best to wait for the next signal from the coin flip.

Bid Depth: worthless
Difficulty: it overshot on the way down, it will overshoot on the recovery because of the delay between purchase and operation of hardware
OBV: Can't really see the bullishness you are referring to
6007  Economy / Speculation / Re: wow, bitcoin's astro birth chart is full on! on: April 10, 2012, 04:42:29 PM
Haha, finally a technical analysis chart in Speculation that actually predicts something accurately

I must admit, this thread is great for calibrating my IgnoroscopeSmiley

A noise-cancelling filter with better than random predictive capacity.

(Results are subjective, your mileage may vary.)

The problem with closing yourself off is you don't know what you're missing.

clinging desperately to the last vestige of your investment thesis.  won't last long i assure you...

Actually I wouldn't touch AAPL with a 10 foot pole..  But I don't think its done, it could easily go to 750+ or so short term, but I don't want to try to call the top..  I don't think it will crash when it tops out either, just bounce along like Microsoft did for 10 years after the dotcom crash.

I've never posted a thesis, or claimed to be an expert, or sell my advice.  Wink

I just think your plain wrong that the market is about to crash, that gold/silver are about to crash.

You've been claiming for a month now that they are about to crash, and you can pick corners.

You missed.

It might not be crashing, but even my tiny $200 position with 5% commission is sitting in the green as of today.
6009  Economy / Economics / Re: Current Bitcoin inflation rate = 35%. Price = stable on: April 10, 2012, 03:07:45 AM
Don't waste your time explaining. It is like speaking to a troop of monkeys. Your just going to get pissed on and hooted at. Best approach is to piss on them instead. It will help prevent the know nothings from falling into error.

The discussion is carrying on with civility and consideration, until cunicula shows up, and calls everyone monkeys who should be pissed on. I think the irony is perhaps lost on him?

Cunicula - though your economic reasoning is fallacious, and your demeanor is inappropriate at best and obnoxious at worst, I still refrain from calling you names and have never advocated urination as fitting punishment for you. If you'd like to debate the economics with us "libertarian austrian asshats" whom you loathe so mightily, please do. But stop the immaturity. Your untenable positions can be considered if dressed for the event, but if you're unable or unwilling to engage in proper discourse please go elsewhere.

Inflation, properly defined, is the degree by which the money supply increases. It is a useful metric unto itself irregardless of economic activity or other metrics. To claim that "GDP" and "prices" must be considered when strictly measuring inflation is to pervert the term beyond its useful definition. If you take umbrage with this statement, then please explain. I understand many contemporary economists use "inflation" to describe what is more accurately referred to as CPI figures, but many contemporary economists also think spending and consumption is productive behavior, so I'm skeptical of their prescience and take issue with their distortion of terminology.

I know you're not a monkey, so stand up for yourself and address the issue like a man or bow politely and find your way to the door.

Idiot, one does not 'debate' definitions. If you were not an idiot, then this would be clear to you already. Definitions are meant to make communication convenient. The rest of the world, including 99.9% of academic economists like me, and 99.9% of regular Joe's too, defines inflation as changes in the price level. If you prefer to use the asshat definition, so be it. What can I do if you decide that chocolate means cheese and are very obstinate about it? I certainly can't argue with you. Again, what an idiot you are. You certainly didn't learn this asshattery in school, which I suggest you go back to.

What term do academic economists like you use to discuss what his definition is?  If you don't have such a term, why is it ignored?
6010  Economy / Long-term offers / Re: Open Ended Investment Opportunity on: April 10, 2012, 03:00:48 AM
How about anonymize the data by giving each person a random ID. And only share with your depositors/borrowers their own ID.

I just use their deposit address.
6011  Economy / Long-term offers / Re: Open Ended Investment Opportunity on: April 10, 2012, 01:18:08 AM
I've been attempting to make a shared google spreadsheet but obviously I want each tab to be private to each person.   I set the workbook to be private to only those people that are invited and then set each tab to be only accessible to a particular email address, yet any of the invited people can see ALL of the tabs, even though the permissions say they shouldn't be able to.  Anyone have this experience or an idea what I'm doing wrong?  I'd like to get this published so I can open up my availability again.  (I promised I wouldn't open up my availability until I got online tracking ready)
I don't think you can. I tried the same thing with my sheets. GDocs permissions only allow/disallow edits, not views.

I concur.
6012  Economy / Marketplace / Re: Bitcoin-hungry merchant on: April 10, 2012, 12:40:09 AM
Dude, well, let me put it this way...

I'm one of your affiliates, as you might notice from my signature, also one of your customers, and several of my friends are also your customers, and despite all my friends having bitcoins they pay you with CC because it's CHEAPER!

I always feel I get robbed when I pay you with bitcoins.

Also: where are my aff comissions from last month? lol

If you feel we need to continue this conversation hit me up on one of my emails.

$24.09 vs 5.89 BTC for a carton of reds... sounds like you're only offering $4.08/BTC.  I would feel robbed too if I paid with BTC over CC.

Well my whole site is in php and html right now

Here's an example of how to communicate with the daemon:
https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/API_reference_(JSON-RPC)#PHP

I'm not really inclined to build a lottery (no challenges, already done, etc), but like Matthew said, if you start waving money around I could probably be persuaded.  If you provide details of the exact scope of the project and the price you're willing pay, you'll have better luck finding a developer.
6014  Economy / Marketplace / Re: CoinsLottery(Coming Soon)(Hiring) on: April 09, 2012, 10:39:25 PM
It says in the title coming soon, I didnt even put up address to send payments to. If I would of put up no website or anything and said just send money to this address yea that would of sounded spammy. I simply put this up as an annoucment that I am working on a site which is mostly done and that I am looking for someone with expertise to help me. Also I plan on launching the site sunday. So it is basiclly just 6 days in advance.
@notme
Thank you, It wasnt like I threw together some bogus site and said send money here for my lottery. I am hiring someone and making a site from scratch. Also basiclly I just need some help with how to automate the whole progress of automaticlly sending the winner the payment so I do not have to do it manually. Not that I mind but I would rather it be all automatic so there is no room for human error. Also this is probaly gonna isnt gonna be a one or two time thing. Since I just need help this once and maybe again when I set up a namecoin lottery.

The bitcoin JSON API is pretty easy to work with... what language are you using?
6015  Economy / Marketplace / Re: CoinsLottery(Coming Soon)(Hiring) on: April 09, 2012, 10:37:00 PM
Im planning on adding in more lotteries such as namecoin lottery and devcoin. Also I am working on other types of bitcoin Lotteries. For example I was gonna make another lottery that would work like the mega millions work in the US. I was simply trying to start up a site.

Look, as resident troll around here I'll cut to the chase right now.

You have no reputation, so even if you were selling foot powder, half of the active community would think you're going to take money and run off with it. The reason for this is because of Bitcoin's irreversible nature, and that a great majority of newbies who create businesses run off with peoples' money.

If you are serious about making a business, never disclose every fucking detail of your business to everyone. In contrast, if your business is something that can be told to everyone else, then you have no business unless you can do it better than anyone else.

This and the fact that you're starting at a low level of comprehension to Bitcoin spells to us that you are going to fail. Because we hate failures much more than we hate idiots, we're just telling you to stop now while you're ahead.

If you insist on pursuing this direction, then get a hold of the people who are already doing it first and see if you can work with them. Decentralized currencies do not necessarily require everyone to make their own business, and not every idea you have will be original (technically, none will be), so why not find partners instead of employees? Why not find work on something and show it first? And if your reason for this is "Because I can't make it on my own", then you're doing it wrong-- you should be waving money, not your lips.

Good post, helpful instead of purely critical.  Unfortunately this community has seen its fair share of scams, so people tend to be cautious/protective.  Especially those that have been scammed first hand.

Yet this site is no where to be found.  Your rep is non-existant.  This sounds very scammy.

You're sure being tough on the guy... he said he's trying to hire a developer.  I'm tempted to take up the job just to make up for your rudeness.  The bitlotto dude didn't have much rep either when he started.
6017  Economy / Speculation / Re: Whats with the volume on mtgox today.. on: April 09, 2012, 10:10:24 PM
On average we get a large volume spike on gox about once a week.

Last spike was 3 weeks ago.

Sentiment is primed for rally mode, so big players want to see what the market does on its own to help pick targets when they pump and dump.
6018  Economy / Speculation / Re: Whats with the volume on mtgox today.. on: April 09, 2012, 09:14:27 PM
Its like put putting along..

Nobody wants to buy at these prices and the shorts are already in position.  When the natural sellers give up hope of a better price, or need funds, we will see some movement.
