6061  Economy / Economics / Re: INFLATION IN THE UNDERDEVELOPED COUNTRIES on: September 14, 2019, 10:12:39 AM
Underdeveloped countries continue to print banknotes without any limit, to cover the increasing government expenses. So it is not very surprising that the inflation is very high. Even in my country, the inflation rate had touched 14% mark in 2014, when the UPA was in power (they were very corrupt). Now the inflation is down to around 3%, as no corruption scandals have been reported from the ruling coalition.
6062  Economy / Economics / Re: Perfect example of why governments must hold Bitcoin on: September 14, 2019, 10:06:14 AM
What Maduro needs is hard cash (in the form of United States Dollars or Euro). If he had Bitcoin or any other cryptocurrency instead of gold, I am not sure whether his fortunes would have brightened any further. The sanctions prohibit other countries from purchasing any assets from Zimbabwe and that includes gold and digital assets including Bitcoin.
6063  Economy / Economics / Re: Crimes involving crypto have risen on: September 14, 2019, 09:58:17 AM
Just today, I heard the news that scammers stole some amount of cryptocurrency, including bitcoins, by hacking the cloud storage in a smartphone, in which keys and passwords were stored. Therefore, first of all, we need to take care of the safety of our own funds ourselves, and store the data also on physical media.

Smartphones are getting hacked every now and then, as the users are relatively less careful with their mobiles than they are with their laptops. And many of the hackers are also getting more innovative and specializing in Android / iOS hacking. I never use my smartphone for transacting cryptocurrency. I only trust my laptop, in which I have multiple anti-virus software installed.

The United States finish the tournament with a win, as they defeat Poland 87-74 to secure the 7th place. Still they wasted 6 out of the 19 free throws. In around two hours from now, Serbia will be taking on the Czech Republic, for the 5th place playoffs. It is very ironical that two teams who were the favorites to win the tournament are now playing for the 7th place and 5th place respectively...

Australia continues to depend too much on Steve Smith
Another proof that without Smith, Australia batting line is very fragile. Smith out and Australian team booked for only 225 runs. Imagine in the 2nd innings Smith somehow fails to perform then Australia is going to lose this Test.

This is not very good situation for Smith too. He is in under pressure whenever he is coming for batting. This consent pressure eventually will harm his batting performance. If he fails to get run is constitutive 2 or 3 innings then he will have the same time like Warner is having now. Australian team really needs to train their batsmen psychologically. All of them are very much capable of scoring big but at this moment their performance is not up to the mark.

Rather than providing training, the current bunch of selectors needs to be kicked out along with non-performing batsmen such as David Warner. Warner has managed to score just 84 runs in 9 innings and I don't know how the selectors are able to justify their decision to include him in the playing XI. On the other hand, Mitchell Starc was given just one opportunity and was dropped despite picking up 4 wickets.

The 7th place match is nearing completion, and right now the United States is leading by 10 points (70-60) against Poland. May be the win will act as a consolation after the two humiliating defeats. And hopefully, the selectors will pick a full strength national side for the next world cup (2023). The absence of NBA stars proved to be very costly for the US team.
6067  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Is KuCoin Becoming the Best Exchange for Trading? on: September 14, 2019, 09:20:40 AM
Kucoin have been around for a while, but they have failed to grow in to a major exchange, similar to Binance or Huobi. The most important advantage while using Kucoin is the trading fee, which is relatively lower compared to the other exchanges. Also, they are based in Hong Kong and therefore a lot of Chinese users are among their clientele. However, many users have complained of the platform slowing down, during high traffic phases.
6068  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: T20 and T20I cricket prediction and discussion on: September 14, 2019, 09:15:10 AM
I was not expecting that much close competition from the broken Zimbabwe team. Good to see that still they have the cricketing spirit in them.

Players such as Kyle Jarvis and Sean Ervine spend most of their time in countries such as England, where the infrastructure is pretty good with minimal political interference. That's how they continue to play good cricket despite all the setbacks. But the domestic cricket in Zimbabwe is in dire straits and the first class matches are being played in substandard conditions.

After the big 3 vs small 7 battle, now we have infighting among the associates to contend with. Check this article:

https://www.cricbuzz.com/cricket-news/109042/hints-of-a-power-shift-in-associate-politics-at-icc-meeting

Representative of the Netherlands was voted out during the ICC meeting, after the smaller countries such as Vanuatu organized themselves to get a better share of the ICC revenues. Not a very good sign, IMO. ICC can't give all the associates equal funding. Better performing teams such as the Netherlands and Scotland deserve greater funding when compared to smaller teams which field squads entirely comprised of expats.
6070  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Bounties keeps getting worse on: September 13, 2019, 05:26:39 PM
I don't understand the logic in participating in the bounties anymore. At the most 2% or 3% of them are paying good rewards. The chance of getting a good payout is extremely low and IMO the users should try something else if they have spare time. Social media bounty payouts are now in the range of $1 to $5 per campaign (in case they make the payments in time), although signature bounty is paying slightly higher.
6071  Economy / Economics / Re: What are some not so obvious things that damage a country's economy? on: September 13, 2019, 05:21:34 PM
Uncontrolled rise in population can be the most harmful factor in a country's economy. My country is having a population of 1,350 million and another 20 to 25 million people are added every year. The population density has crossed 1,000 people per sq km in many of the states and a large part of the population lives in the urban slums. Unless this issue is resolved, there can never be permanent economic growth here.
6072  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin dominance hits 71.2%, alts lagging behind on: September 13, 2019, 05:04:08 PM
For a while, the Bitcoin dominance had declined to sub-70 levels, but now once again it is back to 70.3%. Altcoins are showing no sign of recovery, including the established coins such as Ethereum, Ripple and Litecoin. One thing that concerns me the most is the rising market share of Tether (USDT). Now the market cap has risen to more than $4.1 billion, despite their issues with the NYAG.
6073  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: T20 and T20I cricket prediction and discussion on: September 13, 2019, 04:59:32 PM
Poor start from Bangladesh. But now the match is getting alive by Mosaddek and Afif Hosain. Although it's still far away from the chase. Zimbabwe played brilliant even after losing early wickets.
Come on tigers.

Bangladesh may end up winning this match. The 7th wicket partnership from Afif Hossain and Mosaddek Hossain has scored 46 runs from just 25 balls. Another 39 runs are needed from 26 balls and if they score at this rate then they should be able to pull it through. Zimbabwe badly needs one wicket, but they are running out of bowling options.
6074  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Test Cricket Prediction and Discussion Thread [self - mod] on: September 13, 2019, 04:54:47 PM
Smith gone. Wooh! Finally Aus has shown they can't even chase down such a low score on their own and this time Smith has gone for 80 being the only player to cross 50 runs. Such a poor performance. England have almost won the first innings which is a good start and now they need to repeat this in the second innings as well.

Apart from Steve Smith, none of the Australian batsmen have scored enough runs in the Ashes so far. Just check these stats for their other batsmen:

1. David Warner has scored a total of 84 runs from 9 innings at an average of 9.33
2. Marcus Harris has scored a total of 49 runs from 5 innings at an average of 9.80
3. Usman Khawaja has scored a total of 122 runs from 6 innings at an average of 20.33

Just imagine what could have happened to Australia if Steve Smith was not there. IMO, the only player who gave him any sort of support was Marnus Labuschagne.
6075  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: FIBA Basketball World Cup 2019 on: September 13, 2019, 04:47:11 PM
This world cup is really crazy. Obviously I was expecting a few upsets, but I never thought even in my wildest dreams that half of all the matches would turn out to be upsets. Semifinals were no exception. Australia were very unlucky to miss a spot in the finals. They fought really hard, but the experience and NBA skills of the Spanish players propelled them to a win in the second OT. But the other semifinal was a gem. No one expected Argentina to completely dominate the match. They won all the four quarters.
6076  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Test Cricket Prediction and Discussion Thread [self - mod] on: September 13, 2019, 11:16:06 AM
OK... So England bowled out for 294. They had a very good chance to make 300 and it would have given them a lot of advantage in terms of morale and psychology. To their advantage, the Australians bowled really well, with Mitchell Marsh picking up 5 wickets and Pat Cummins picking up 3. Out of the 87 overs bowled, only four was bowled by Nathan Lyon. Now the focus shifts to Steve Smith. Will he be able to get 1,000 runs in this series? He is just short by 329 runs.
I think England are in a bad position currently since Australia could easily win or draw this match from this stage. If Smith gets going again, its game over for England. I guess they will all target Smith primarily.

If England manage to bowl out Australia within 200, they would have the upper hand. Archer and Woakes are the bowlers to watch in my opinion.

Smith has come to bat now, and Australia is in very bad state (14/2). David Warner and Marcus Harris made a total of 8 runs and they are back in the pavilion. Two of the best Australian batsmen at the crease (Steve Smith and Marnus Labuschagne) and they need to build a three digit partnership for Australia to have any chance remaining in this test.

Now coming to the weather, there is no chance of rain at any point of time during this test match. So we're assured of a result, provided England doesn't put up a very big score in their second innings.
6077  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: FIBA Basketball World Cup 2019 on: September 13, 2019, 11:10:10 AM
Another upset was on the plate, but Spain somehow managed to avoid it. The second semifinal will be an interesting one as well. Argentina has been in very good form so far, and I believe that they have a really good chance of upsetting France to qualify for the finals. If that doesn't happen, then we'll be having an all European final between these two neighboring nations, with Spain having the advantage.
6078  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2019-09-02] Argentina capital controls, a strong case for bitcoin on: September 13, 2019, 10:37:48 AM
In case another recession occurs at some point of time in the future, then I believe that Bitcoin will gain a lot of popularity and acceptability. Many of the countries are collapsing from the public debt, as the debt vs GDP ratio has gone much above the permissible levels. Complete meltdowns have occurred in countries such as Greece and Cyprus, and many more countries are likely to follow. Some of the fiat currencies are going to become worthless.
6079  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Will bitcoin get banned worldwide? on: September 13, 2019, 10:33:19 AM
many countries? on the contrary, I believe bitcoin and blockchain technology has been getting more attention and adopton of late. No country can boldly tell you it likes bitcoin as it is not controlled by the government, but that's what makes bitcoin the greatest and most decentralized accepted currency out there

Attention can be positive or negative. Bitcoin caught the attention of the Indian government during the demonetization exercise of 2016, as a lot of people with unaccounted funds rushed to purchase crypto. As a result of that, they entrusted the finance secretary (Subhash Chandra Garg) to come up with a policy to deal with a cryptocurrencies. He recommended jailing anyone holding cryptocurrency by up to 10 years, but luckily he was fired by the government after locking horns with the RSS.
