6081  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin's Image Is Getting Stronger by the Minute on: August 29, 2020, 07:00:50 AM
Bitcoin performing well amid the crisis and the USD doing bad doesn’t mean that they’re completely related to each other. Bitcoin saw more than 30% increase all while this pandemic is ravaging countries, and the USD, despite  being printed so hard to give cash aids to the citizens of US, hasn’t moved that much down. I personally don’t think USD is the main reason why people are buying bitcoin all of a sudden but rather their failing stocks during the first half of 2020 and the continuous bad performance of assets that people are commonly invested in.

I mean, would you stay in an asset that is giving you nightmares everyday than taking one that has a history of giving in more greens than reds during the entirety of its existence?
6082  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Buy bitcoin with phone credits??? on: August 29, 2020, 05:09:42 AM
3 years ago, I was able to convert my mobile credits to cash with just a 1% transaction fee. The thing is this mobile network operator also has a payment processing service that is linked with their mobile credits, so transferring funds is seamless and is back then. However since this was abused and a lot of fraud happened, they shut it down indefinitely and one can no longer use mobile credits and use it as cash.

Right now, there are a few traders wanting to accep this kind of trade, and I don’t know if such trades can be successful in Paxful but it’s still worth something when you first look in there. Don’t put your hopes up though since this trade isn’t really happening much.
6083  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Winklevoss Case for $500K Bitcoin on: August 28, 2020, 08:45:25 PM
It is possible to happen, but it will take a really long while before it comes to realization. Current peak of this term/cycle suggests that we might see $100k on most predictions, and that’s being too hard on the factors already. The thing is, in order for the gears to start and the momentum to build-up, the world has to take its part for this to happen. We’re not talking about mere billions here but rather trillions, and where would the money come? Even with a huge assist from fake volumes and other illegal trading practices, we would still need a lot of money to push higher. It’s possible, yes, but current economic situation tells us that this is not yet the time for another ATH.
6084  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Research and Experience, There’s No Other Way! on: August 28, 2020, 06:20:01 PM
You don’t have to learn every single detail about bitcoin in order to keep yourself safe from hacks and other things that might result to you losing your coins.

I personally have quite a programming background since I use it on my work, but it’s far from the algorithms laid out on bitcoin so I don’t see that skill as an advantage, but it helps. I never learned the intricacies of trading and chart-reading, but I made quite a profit in bitcoin over the years of my stay here.

The thing is, one doesn’t need to overload their minds on information. They just have to use it wisely and just pick up the things that they think they will be needing and just expand the learnings later when the need arises.

IMO you don’t have to be a genius in order to create and receive a transaction, and make a profit. You just have to learn the basics THEN you can expand from there. The points in the OP is good, and should be noted by newbies who are seeking for immediate gratification on their efforts in using bitcoin.
6085  Economy / Economics / Re: Socialist life on: August 28, 2020, 05:09:51 PM
Most of the world remains as capitalists due to the fact that the governments are proposing bailout programs and cash aid to those large corporations while leaving the small to medium enterprises on their own. This isn't socialism since not all the members of society are receiving the same amount of benefits compared to those who are really funding money for the gears to work, even though both of them are doing something for the society. We will never reach such a state given how we are obsessed with having more money than we could ever need in our lifetimes, and our governments are also making those dreams happen to a few chosen elites while leaving the rest of the herd trying to make ends meet.
6086  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Barriers preventing you from using bitcoin today/advantages of using bitcoin? on: August 28, 2020, 04:41:34 PM
I guess the lack of merchants largely affects the decision of a lot of people to use bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies on using bitcoin on real-world transactions. Not that txs related to purchases aren't happening but the number is significantly small to justify how great bitcoin and crypto can be as a form of payment. I know a lot of people like me are itching to use their crypto to buy something that is more of a necessity rather than a novelty, so the demand is there. It's just that most merchants are still hesitant to integrate crypto-payments due to their common enemy: volatility.
6087  Local / Others (Pilipinas) / Re: DITO stocks - dapat ba mag invest na DITO? on: August 28, 2020, 04:07:06 PM
Too early to gauge profitability IMO. As of now, pure hype pa lang ang pumapalibot sa DITO. Siyempre, bagong player eh.
6088  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: US file a lawsuit to recover funds from a hack by North Korea on: August 28, 2020, 01:27:17 PM
I don't think North Korea will ever be returning anything to the US no matter how many lawsuits they file against the state. They would just deny and deny all these allegations while continuing what they're doing. Knowing how NoKor treated most of the cases and sanctions against them, they'd just shrug it off and tell the world that they are being bullied by the US, with their ally China backing them up and just making things hard for everyone else.

if you took the time to read the Attachment file in the link above (a pdf file at the bottom) , you'll notice that they mention "mining activity from North Korean actors" but they don't mention the cryptocurrency. Geez, i wonder if North Korea mining more Monero [1] has anything to do with this "mining activity"  Roll Eyes

1. https://decrypt.co/18954/north-korea-is-mining-way-more-monero-than-last-year

I actually like that the US is being vague and cryptic about their wordings on which cryptocurrency are they talking about. Perhaps to not disrupt the market activity of the cryptocurrency in question but North Korea is still painting all the red flags and signs everywhere, so yeah.
6089  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I gathered every Satoshi Nakamoto thread. on: August 27, 2020, 08:19:00 PM
Add the topics that he replied to, I guess Grin? Especially the technical threads and just separate them into their own class/title/whatever to also highlight his skills and his knowledge in programming, cryptography and all other things linked to bitcoin. It might be a stretch but it's worth it. This thread collection is already superb in many ways on its own, and I feel that forum members would add more and more for on this repository of all known 'satoshi' threads. While some of these threads have become spamthreads by now, it's just mind-boggling still how many discussions were born just because of his 'name.'
6090  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Legal Matter on: August 27, 2020, 05:35:50 PM
There is money to be made in legalizing online gambling, but remember that physical casinos are one of the main reasons why the United States are frequented by people, especially in Las Vegas, and there's more money in there compared to online gambling. There are some states that are 'quite open' to online gambling though they do not explicitly state that they support it. It's just that they are passive about it until something gets wrong. Anyways, as long as physical casinos are raking in huge profits for the government, they would not touch online casinos since it gets in the interest of the physical casino owners which, we know, has a strong influence on the decisions made by the US government regarding their industry.
6091  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Whale Sold at $12,000 After 2 Years HODLing on: August 27, 2020, 03:27:10 PM
This just goes to show that the method 'invest and forget' still works on bitcoin. While having a fat stack of money is a huge help to this being possible, everyone, literally everyone can also do the same if they have the patience and the right judgment call on these type of things. At this point in time, a large sum of money has already been poured out into bitcoin that it's highly improbable that its value will just vanish in a short span of time. The whale was just doing what everyone would do if they know how the bitcoin markets work: buy and hodl.
6092  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Chris Larsen, Chair Of Ripple, Argues China Can Reverse Bitcoin Transactions on: August 27, 2020, 12:11:54 PM
And, let me guess, he thinks that a centralized cryptocurrency, namely Ripple, would be able to combat this non-problem? Roll Eyes

China having >60% of the current hash rate of the world does not necessarily mean that they want to alter any transactions that they want. The blockchain being transparent helps in getting things known to the world before it gets buried, but even if that happens, people will still know, hence altering and reversing transactions not really worth it on the side of the Chinese.

Doing this would result to bitcoin losing its value in an unprecedented scale seeing the vulnerability unfold before our very eyes.
6093  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I can't wait until I can pay using bitcoin at the supermarket on: August 27, 2020, 05:28:39 AM
While some already allow prepaid bitcoin debit cards to be used, I can’t also wait for the time when I can literally just scan a bitcoin addy QR code and pay with actual bitcoins. Though currently that isn’t economical given the tx fees and confirmation times, but it is still a possibility that is just looming around the corner until someone actually comes through with it, especially on the merchant’s side.

You can also ask for your employers to give you bitcoins instead, although they may not be open with it but it’s worth it to ask.
6094  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: IRS: Releases Draft from 1040 and it's include virtual currency. on: August 27, 2020, 03:30:35 AM
Most people who have had small dealings with cryptocurrencies wouldn't really care much about checking that box. Heck, it could be that even large traders would ignore that and check 'No' in the end and the IRS wouldn't know, unless they are already watching some people who are getting some big gains on cryptocurrencies. They are slowly moving the checkbox up for better visibility, and it's kind of a passive-aggressive move to them since as of late, a lot of traders are raking in profits due to the sudden boom of cryptocurrencies in the market.

They really want to establish the fact that they are serious in taxing cryptos, and they might add some more questions in the future if they think that that checkbox wouldn't suffice on what they wanted to do.
6095  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Space Race Wagers? on: August 26, 2020, 05:15:30 PM
If sports books are going so far as to listing events such as hotdog eating contests on their platform, up to national elections on some countries and sociopolitical events, it is possible that they will be including things such as this. The first manned mission to Mars would be the prized trophy that economic superpowers will try to reach out for since they will show the rest of the world how superior their tech are, plus the ones who get there first would be able to survey the red planet thoroughly for possible resources and whatnot. It will take a long ass time but people bet on literally anything that goes under the sun, so expect this type of lines in the next years to come.

And if I were to bet which country would make a dent on our history as a space-faring civilization, I would say it would be the US give the advancements it is seeing on rocket technology thanks to the help of brilliant engineers and private companies testing the waters for NASA.
6096  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: When Bitcoin Maximalists are Promoting/Shilling an Altcoin on: August 26, 2020, 02:44:37 PM
These people would put their loyalty on whatever hands can feed them and give them luxury. I’m pretty sure the price is more than what they bargained for that’s why a sudden shift of interest is seen on these people. This is how McAfee started trashing on bitcoin (or swaying from his sturdy stance on bitcoin)  and becoming a paid persona to shill shitcoins that he knows is just a money-grab scheme. I couldn’t care less on what they do actually, but the fact that they stomped on altcoins once to prove a point, and now promoting it is just laughable. But whatever floats their boat and whatever keeps them afloat, I guess
6097  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: VALORANT Betting on: August 26, 2020, 11:40:57 AM
I'm nearing my Immortal rank any time now, but I haven't been grinding much since I'm currently busy with all the workloads and whatnot, and it's really a fun game. Anyway, the game is a potential hit for betting due to its fast-paced action and some quirky gameplay mechanics. If I were to say it, it's like Apex Legends' skills, CS:GO shooting mechanics and Overwatch movement (some of it) were refined and balanced and you have Valorant. It's one of the best in its genre right now and a lot of organizers and big leagues are converging towards the said game which means more money on viewership and more money on sponsors. Also, Riot Games is reaching to its player-base more often than anyone else in the scene right now, so it's not really that hard to see it being added on sportsbooks as an event.

Currently there are only a few pro teams that are proving themselves on the playing field, but more and more tournaments are coming so expect that bookies also have their eye on this.
6098  Local / Others (Pilipinas) / Re: Blockchain on Online Classes for Computer Studies on: August 26, 2020, 10:00:12 AM
I don't necessarily hate on ICCT, but some people I know are enrolled sa school na iyan, at oftentimes ay kapos nga talaga sa reliable resources at useful teaching materials ang kanilang teaching staff as per the students themselves.

Also, I don't think colleges in the Philippines are that focused on the cryptographic side of things but rather on networking lang, kaya mas marami ang firms and educational organizations na nag-ooffer ng CCNA certifications and the likes sa kanilang short courses kumpara sa cryptographic-heavy na mga curriculum. Masakit mang sabihin pero in reality, kakaunti pa lamang ang mga bihasa sa blockchain and its technicalities sa bansa, at hindi pa tayo nakaka-catch up lalong-lalo sa ating mga academe kaya medyo mahirap pa ipasok sa ngayon ang ganitong subject sa kolehiyo IMO.
6099  Local / Pilipinas / Re: P60 Million Worth of Gift Card Scam - Converted To Bitcoin on: August 25, 2020, 05:40:27 PM

As someone who worked in a BPO industry handling sensitive information and such--oftentimes may access sa banks and cards ng mga customers--mahirap talagang gumawa ng kalokohan lalo't wala kang protektor sa loob. Hindi lang tatlo sangkot dyan, malamang kahit management nila may alam dyan.
6100  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Seuntjies DiceBot and Crypto.games issues! on: August 25, 2020, 05:08:46 PM
It's worth noting that while dice games are provably-fair, the outcomes of each event won't turn out to be the same. Your simulation and tinkering might have resulted in you getting a desirable result, but put that into a different platform and see the variety in the result you just got. Also, provably-fair means that every event outcome is verifiable on your end using known methods such as checking hashes and changing client seeds etc. to make sure that the server is not 'playing with you' using their games. Try it out on different platforms and see that results will vary greatly no matter how 'perfect' your simulation runs.
