So in essence with the new code will take out some work from the miners.

Theoretically, yes, but the same miners that are against the first Segwit proposal, seem to be in favor of the Segwit2x proposal. At least, that's what the unofficial signalling hints at. I don't mind having Segwit2x activated, but the only point of annoyance for me is that they should have taken far more time to properly test it through. But hey, in normal circumstances they would have done that, but the main point is that they want to initiate activation before the 1st of August, and thus lack time to do so. Undecided
6082  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2017-07-08] Bitcoin Price Fall Is Not Real - Marc Kenigsberg on: July 11, 2017, 02:14:59 PM
A very small number of investors left the crypto currency. Mostly afraid August 1 beginners. But I am sure that after this date people's interest in crypto currency will greatly increase. And I still hope for a price increase. So I keep my coins

In some cases people are afraid of what might happen, but the main point is that the more experienced/wealthy investors are just waiting to act depending on the scenario. Don't forget that if the price does indeed happen to fall down significantly, it will be a great moment for plenty of investors and other people to enter the market. People are waiting for the right opportunity, and rightfully so. But on the other hand, the situation might not be negative at all, where the activation of Segwit gets pushed through effortlessly with no split as result. People here like to hype things up, but this has gotten out of hand. 1st of August is NO doomsday. At worst it might result in a short term bear market, but hey, we have been through so much drama already, that we'll swallow all this negativity without any problems. No pain no gain.
6083  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Afraid of August One? on: July 11, 2017, 01:53:32 PM
Little bit. Somebody saying like that the price of bitcoin will increase. There is no clarity on the value of crypto currency, so getting tension. Other side, i will have curiosity about this.

Which Bitcoin is he referring to? We will have 5-6 new Bitcoin split by end this year. I

The one with the majority of the economical support, perhaps? Tongue In all seriousness, people act like something significantly bad is going to happen in the forthcoming weeks, but the point is that miners are just talking big. It may be one big troll show that the miners have been putting up. At the end of the day they have one main priority, and that is having their mining operations run profitably. No matter what hidden agendas certain miners may have, they will not jeopardize their operations just to gamble on a potential positive outcome for themselves. It's not just a few thousand bucks that they have at stake.
6084  Economy / Speculation / Re: Preparing for the BIG FEAST! on: July 11, 2017, 09:45:36 AM
Not much of a store of value if it drops 10% in 1 day. Thats HUGE - definitely not peanuts.

I think you have to look at things from a different perspective - short term fluctuations don't harm anyone's long term store of value plan. Point is that as long as the value of your coins is going up over a longer period of time, that the fluctuations we experience every now and then won't impact the value of your holdings at all. Important factor is that a store of value is meant to hold its value over a longer period of time, and that's exactly what Bitcoin has been doing throughout the years. In addition, it gave most people a thick fat bonus on top of that.
6085  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2017-07-05]Darknet Market AlphaBay Down: Exit Scam or Maintenance? on: July 11, 2017, 08:25:16 AM
Have you found any information about memebers being arrested ? I've looked over reddit but nothing
Take it with a pinch of salt since there is no way to know whether or not this is a troll attempt.

https://www.reddit.com/r/AlphaBayMarket/comments/6m8ilc/alphabay_update_admin_arrested_staff_jumping_ship/

We will see in the next days if they will really come back, because all scammers say they are doing maintenance when in fact they have already run away with all bitcoins
It's 99% scam and 1% chances of them getting back, where people can finally withdraw their coins. If even an AB mod tells people to move on and consider the funds people had on AB as lost, it says enough. In the meanwhile other dark net markets are blocking AB vendors in some cases, lol. It aint easy selling ya green on da net. Cheesy
6086  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2017-07-10] Mt Gox CEO Mark Karpeles Heads to Trial... on: July 11, 2017, 07:52:56 AM
I think this fat con artist is eventually going to walk out freely knowing that he has a stash nearly worth $2 billion at todays rates. But even if he does get punished for what he did, then it will only result in up to five years of jail time (which is peanuts considering the mega size of the theft), or a fine of $4000 that he wipes his a** with. No wonder he isn't taking this entire trial seriously. I remember how I signed up there before all these problems started back in early 2013, but never used them due to their insanely high fees. If they didn't operate with such insane fees, I would have likely have been one of the plenty MtGox victims.
6087  Other / Meta / Re: My trust page page does not load on: July 11, 2017, 07:31:44 AM
I removed the trust scores next to everyone's name on trust pages. They were nice to have, but this massively speeds things up. I wonder if I could reasonably add pagination.

Why can't the forum just allocate more bandwidth to running this forum properly? It makes no sense to change something that goes at cost of another thing that people here add value to. If it's a matter of lacking financial recourses (which I don't really think is the case), why don't you create a seperate donation form that allows people to contribute solely for that purpose?
6088  Economy / Speculation / Re: Preparing for the BIG FEAST! on: July 11, 2017, 07:22:22 AM
I think you're exaggerating the situation. Yes, this drop enables people to buy back their coins at lower rates, but it's not like the price has gone down massively, or will go down massively. In order to let the panic really kick in, we have to break through various support levels, and then still it's not sure that we will tank below the $2000 level. We're down like 10% since yesterday, and in current circumstances, that's peanuts.
6089  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2017-07-05]Darknet Market AlphaBay Down: Exit Scam or Maintenance? on: July 10, 2017, 09:50:09 AM
Ok, it seems that the days for AlphaBay are over (if it wasn't like that a few days ago already). I am not sure how much value we can add to certain posts on reddit, but the main point of these posts is that the staff (and then mainly those higher on the ladder) have been arrested. Another post on reddit points out that DeSnake has been doxed, and for that reason has trashed everything to get rid of potential harmful evidence against him. It's impossible to know what's going on with so many trolls around there. I personally hint at two thoughts; (1) the operators have just performed an exit scam, which is a likely scenario. (2) there have indeed been higher ranked staff members arrested, which is less likely than the first option.
6090  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2017-07-10]Wall Street Journal: Bitcoin ‘Need Not Compete With Dollar’ For ‘Res on: July 10, 2017, 09:26:19 AM
Why do bitcoin needs to compete with dollar in the first place?
Exactly. It's a constant bit of nonsensical discussion being kept alive by those that believe Bitcoin MUST and WILL replace banks, fiat currencies, whatever payment service, knock governments off the table, etc. This isn't a matter of the strongest will survive, but more that people have the freedom to finally choose. Bitcoin has been going strong and growing exponentially throughout the years - did we need Bitcoin to replace whatever institution or fiat currency for that? No. Neither will we need to do so in the future.

Why not take advantage of both?
That's how it should be. But people as always will force themselves to pick one option, which will only result in these people to limit themselves heavily. It's basically the same with how people here are thinking about them going to focus on holding their coins, or trading... Hmmm... What should we do? Do both you short sighted weirdos.
6091  Economy / Economics / Re: Your plans for 1st august? on: July 09, 2017, 03:09:48 PM
I will not change that much. I have always kept the far majority of my coins firmly offline. I have a seperate stash that I purely use for trading purposes, so I don't have to touch my main cold wallet stash. I will just keep trading as I have always done, as I believe the volatility at that time will be insane, and extremely profitable if played well. My only concern is how the exchange(s) I am using will behave in such circumstances. That's why I am constantly monitoring all platforms for the latest bit of information.
6092  Economy / Speculation / Re: Anyone else think "long term" hodlers are idiots? on: July 09, 2017, 02:43:42 PM
Anyone else think OP is a fucking idiot?  Grin

No. Long term holders that have seen their stash gain any sort of insane value throughout the years are the idiots here. They have put themselves in the position where they don't know what to do with their money anymore. It has piled up to such a level, that it isn't even funny anymore. The worst part is that it will only increase more in value in the forthcoming years. Life is hard. Undecided
6093  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Transaction fees on: July 09, 2017, 02:23:09 PM
I don't know whom you are talking about

But I think I made it pretty clear that I consider Bitcoin as a very risky asset right now (potentially turning into a toxic one in the near future), and presently I'm mostly in cash with part of my capital invested in Litecoin. So I actually put my money where my mouth is. For example, today I just missed buying a few more litecoins at a little below 44 dollars per coin. Somehow I expected the price to go a bit lower than that (likely to 40 dollars). And I have massive buy orders placed at prices below 35 dollars all the way down to 15 dollars though I don't think that the price is actually going to fall lower than 30 dollars any time soon. I'd rather expect it to surge to over 100 dollars in the next few months

Wow, lolz. I wasn't even referring to you (didn't even had you in mind), but yet I seem to have touched one of your sensitive spots. It's one of your habits to cut off a certain part of the text that people write, and then go in depth about why you do or do not agree with a certain statement.

This was the original statement;

I have seen a large number of people 'threatening' to switch over to altcoins because they offer faster and cheaper confirmations

And this is how you bolded the part that you probably was fixated on.

I have seen a large number of people 'threatening' to switch over to altcoins because they offer faster and cheaper confirmations

It was obviously clear that I was solely referring to those that are looking for faster and cheaper confimations.
6094  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2017-07-08] Venezuelans Keep Surviving Government Failures Thanks to Bitcoin a on: July 09, 2017, 10:46:28 AM
Investing bitcoin or mining bitcoin in a country like venezuela is extremely risky i would say no one should do that right now

It is already happening, and it is helping out a good number of people. Imagine how these people would be suffering if Bitcoin didn't exist? I feel sorry for those suffering from their greedy and corrupted government, but these worrisome situations perfectly show how useful Bitcoin can be. I am fairly sure that if this keeps dragging on, some sort of an "underground" crypto economy will get initiated, where local businesses will end up generating more revenue and income through crypto, than their worthless local fiat currency.
6095  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2017-07-05] Unconfirmed Transactions Queue and Bitcoin Fees Drop Considerably on: July 09, 2017, 10:11:02 AM
P.S. You asked out of interest but seem to know quite a bit already. Why were you really asking then?

Out of interest means that I am interested in the other person's view on certain things. In most cases I am well aware of how things are, but that doesn't mean there is nothing for me left to learn in terms of the fee structure of certain wallet services and exchanges. And perhaps there have been a few newer services launched from which I didn't know they existed.
6096  Economy / Speculation / Re: Just DO. NOT. SELL. Bitcoin... we can ALL be rich! on: July 09, 2017, 09:42:22 AM
This post is exactly what I need now, too much negativity are scattered through this forum and are all scared because of the dump recently and I think it's because currently bitcoins price is steady around that amount. I will definitely hold my bitcoin thanks to this post. And I do believe we all can be rich if we just know how to HOLD and wait of course.

Damn, it seems that it is insanely easy to manipulate you towards a certain direction. First you get affected by the negativity that comes from trolls and other drama queens spreading fud, and now you see this thread, you have seen the light, and everything is back to normal? Roll Eyes

OP; Essentially, you're right, but at the end, who cares whether or not people are selling their coins at a loss? It all contributes towards these coins flowing into stronger hands each time. It's a market that is extremely profitable due to the uncertainties and its speculative nature. I think you are just a bit tired of looking at current levels, as you probably hoped the price to sit above the $10,000 level by now. It doesn't work like that. Smiley
6097  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Transaction fees on: July 08, 2017, 10:36:35 AM
why do you still use BTC while other e-currencies are MUCH cheaper?

I have seen a large number of people 'threatening' to switch over to altcoins because they offer faster and cheaper confirmations, but these people are not backing up their words by any actions. It's just an empty threat. The reason that most of the altcoins offer faster and cheaper confirmations, is that their networks barely enjoy any sort of significant usage, like is the case with Bitcoin. Just look at what happened with Ethereum. Ether has been facing some serious network difficulties, as it couldn't cope with the increased demand. In other words, every altcoin that at some point ends up experiencing a decent bit of usage, will go through the same difficulties. People however don't seem to realize this. Roll Eyes
6098  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2017-07-07] The Blockchain Split Scenario: Staying Informed and Backing Up Bitc on: July 08, 2017, 10:05:56 AM
I as no other know the importance of keeping my coins under my own control at the time a fork is about to happen, but I remain a trader, and thus can't avoid having an x number of coins sitting on-exchange if I want to trade the volatility at that moment. In that regard, it's very important to know upfront how an exchange is going to act at the time a chain split becomes reality, which is why I am constantly keeping my eye on any further statements from the exchanges I am using. Just want to make sure I won't be catched by surprise.
6099  Economy / Speculation / Re: Mark Cuban on: July 08, 2017, 09:38:28 AM
Well he is a great investor, you can't deny that.
Being a great investor within your own knowledge/industry zone is one thing, thinking that you are an all round master of whatever type of industry, while in reality that isn't the case at all, just shows that he overestimates himself, and is desperately looking for attention. Seriously, look at all the reactions under any article with him as main subject, people go nuts on him, and rightfully so.

The momentum has changed gears since the bull run that essentially ended a month ago. I think the fuel has run out, and we'd have to wait till next halving to see another good pump.
It's not that the fuel has run out, but more that everyone is waiting to see what's going to happen this month in terms of the activation of Segwit. It's very interesting. Segwit2x might activate, BIP 141 might activate (although the chances for this to happen are significantly lower), or we might see Segwit activate through the UASF. I expect some serious volatility in the last week of this month.
6100  Economy / Speculation / Re: just few well know investors and then boom! on: July 08, 2017, 09:19:13 AM
I strongly believe that if some well known investors come in and buy billion dollars worth of bitcoin it could be world breaking news and the price of bitcoin would soar high to $10000, just my opinion.

You shouldn't be worrying about large scale investors taking positions into Bitcoin, it's already happening. No one would ever just dump insane amounts of funds into something, which obviously will only result in the market to soar badly. It's a long term process where they accumulate as many coins as possible, but without bumping up the market up too much. Great way for them to avoid bumping the market when it comes to accumulating through exchanges, is that they buy their coins off-exchange (OTC). It allows them to buy a large number of coins at a fixed price, which means that it isn't only cheaper, but it also doesn't affect the exchange rates in any way. Multi million trades are happening on a very regular basis, but without us noticing anything.
