Great partnership between Roots and Burns but the game is getting too slow and boring now with almost 2.5 days gone and 2nd innings is not over. England need 360+ runs which looks possible now since they have 8 wickets and Stokes is yet to bat. They should get the runs today but very less time is left. Looks like they will get just 100-130 more runs today at their current run rate.

They need 298 to avoid follow on, and they haven't even covered 50% of that target. Burns and Root are trying to build some sort of a partnership, but lets see how that progresses. Nathan Lyon is having his third consecutive ineffective performance in this test and I hope they'll replace him for the next test. So far absolutely teeth-less and doesn't seems to posses a lot of variety.
6122  Economy / Economics / Re: Indian Economy rising at slowest pace - Should they consider Crypto-currency? on: September 06, 2019, 03:17:18 PM
The numbers do boil down to about 3%, which is pretty ridiculous. Bolded part also emphasizes why they haven't been too keen towards Bitcoin adoption (more regulatory hell when they can't even handle existing ones), and why its acceptance probably won't help. Instead of looking for external solutions to their problems, they're most likely better off fixing internal problems first.

India is like the worst type of democracy you can get in the world. Around 60% of the jobs (in government services) and seats in the educational institutions are reserved for certain ethnic groups. Only 40% is available for merit (and that share is also constantly decreasing). Farm loans are being waived off year after year, and this is on top of the "income support" for farmers. Subsidies and freebies have killed the Indian economy.
6123  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin dominance hits 71.2%, alts lagging behind on: September 06, 2019, 03:10:56 PM
I have edited my original post, as the Bitcoin dominance is increasing too fast. In my original post, I had posted that we'll see a dominance of 70% by the end of this year. And with four months to go, we have reached 71.2%. So I changed my prediction to 80% by the end of 2019. Altcoins, irrespective of their market cap are steadily marching to the graveyard. Give me an example of a single altcoin, which has increased its market share during the last 4 months.
6124  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: [2019-09-05] Rainforest to Use Crypto and Blockchain Tech for Amazon Charity on: September 06, 2019, 03:05:47 PM
They should first focus on getting rid of the leaders in their government that are slapping away the help that was provided for the fire fighting efforts that was needed in the Amazon.  Angry  The Amazon rain forest provides a large percentage of the world's oxygen and this makes this a global treasure that needs to be protected from corrupt governments.  Angry

Educating the local farmers and rewarding them for not burning and cutting down the trees will not be effective, because the funds will eventually dry up and then they will just burn it again.

Implement strict penalties for people who are clearing areas for farming without permits and you will see a more regulated "burning" of the forest.  Wink

It is not the small-scale farmers who are responsible for this. They are mostly settling in already cleared areas, where most of the vegetation is already cut down. On the other hand, it is the large agribusiness lobbies (with direct links to president Bolsonaro), who are destroying the rain forest.  They cut down hundreds of thousands of virgin forest in one go. And their feel emboldened by the statements of Bolsonaro, who views the forest as the biggest obstacle to his "development plans".
6125  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: T20 and T20I cricket prediction and discussion on: September 06, 2019, 02:59:14 PM
After 2 loses of T20 match between SL vs Nz , SL might lose this match as well as they are just 60 runs for 3 wickets in 11 overs . Nz might whitewash SL by winning this match and winning the series by  3-0 . SL would like to win this for their pride if they can manage to bowl well and restrict them under the score made by SL batsman .

ROFLMAO... Sri Lanka has just collapsed completely. Now they are at 116/8, with just six balls to spare. Santner destroyed them (4-1-12-3) with his spin bowling. I am afraid that New Zealand will chase the target with more than 10 wickets to spare. Kiwis are currently ranked 6th in the T20 ranking table. I guess with this win, they may be able to overtake South Africa and finish at 5th spot.

Spain finally defeated Italy, but the margin was very small. But still, I would regard them as one of the favorites to win the tournament. We have Serbia vs Spain on Sunday, and it is going to be really exciting. I am thinking about making a bet in favor of Serbia (1/4). They are giving 16/5 for Spain, but I don't think that they have any realistic chance of beating Serbia. Serbia looks invincible as of now, and I would say that 1/4 is as good as it gets.

Anyone watching the Ashes now? It has become really boring. Root and Burns are playing very defensively. England knows that it is impossible to get a lead in the first innings and therefore their real aim is to avoid a follow on. But it is going to be tough, as they need another 228 runs to do that, and that too with just 8 wickets remaining.
6128  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: FIBA Basketball World Cup 2019 on: September 06, 2019, 02:02:25 PM
Russia is out of the world cup, after their loss to Poland. They were leading until the 4th quarter, when the Poles made a startling comeback. This has become the regular story for the Russian side. They are losing crucial matches, after leading the first three quarters. BTW, the Spain vs Italy match is progressing quite well. With 10 minutes remaining, Spain is leading by 2 points.
6129  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2019-09-02] Argentina capital controls, a strong case for bitcoin on: September 06, 2019, 01:57:10 PM
They are risking the money they have left if they do nothing. Their currency is devaluing constantly. It is currently around 60 pesos to the dollar. A month ago it was 45 pesos to the dollar. A couple of years ago it was 10 pesos to the dollar. If I were Argentinian, I'd be holding as little of my net worth in pesos as possible.

The point to be noted here is "as little of my net worth in pesos as possible". Is it that easy to convert your wealth to some stable asset such as gold or United States Dollar in Argentina? From what I have heard, it is not. And that's why they have capital controls. The situation is not as bad as Venezuela, but they are definitely moving in that direction.
6130  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I Sold 2BTC at $3,000 and BTC Bumped to $10,000 on: September 06, 2019, 01:52:44 PM
The next stage of the bull run might have started by now. The exchange rates are up by 10% during the past 3-4 days, and the Bitcoin dominance has also increased from 69% to 71%. The prices are slowly approaching 11K, thanks to solid demand from the global markets. BTC volumes remain robust, while those for altcoins show a sharp decline.

Good to see Rashid Khan in form again after his bad performance in the World Cup. I honestly did not expect Bangladesh to find themselves in such a bad position against Afghanistan and the captaincy change might have done the trick here.

Bangladesh could still turn this around, but they need to decimate Afghanistan in the 2nd innings in order to accomplish that.

Bangladesh has remained stagnant ever since they achieved the test status (the same can be said about Ireland as well). However, Afghanistan is improving with every passing year. Somehow Bangladesh has managed to avoid the follow on, but Afghanistan is firmly in the drivers seat now. It's just a matter of time before the remaining two wickets fall.

The best batsmen the world saw after the second world war just got out for 211.
~skip~

Don't you think that its over-exaggerated Tongue Smith deserves all the respect for his wonderful knock in this match no doubt in that but haven't you seen the Cricket Legends?

Anyways Aussies were like 400 a few minutes back, now the tail-enders have got the score to 475. Suddenly, the test match has changed to a T20 match. Now 500 is only a few overs away. What an innings from Mitchell Starc  Shocked Well played

Everyone is free to make their own opinion, and I just voiced mine. And I wasn't just considering one or two matches. Smith has performed exceptionally well during the past one year. Anyway... now the question is whether Australia would reach 500 or not. They're at 486/8, with Starc and Lyon currently looking comfortable against Archer.

OK.. Anyone here still think that the United States remains as the favorites to win the tournament? I have short listed three nations: Serbia, Spain and the United States. I don't think that anyone else has a great deal of chance (including Greece and Australia). And I would say that out of these three, Serbia is having the maximum chances.

The best batsmen the world saw after the second world war just got out for 211. As the commentator put it "England couldn't get him out, so he himself got out". Enormous respect for Steve Smith. He scored a double ton on his return after suffering from head injury.

I still remember the appalling scenes I witnessed during the first test match. The crowd was booing when Smith came out to bat. The England captain refused to intervene (unlike Virat Kohli during the world cup, when he reacted strongly to the booing). Now when he got out after scoring 211, I was again watching TV. Everyone was standing up to show their respect and not a single one was booing.
6135  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Test Cricket Prediction and Discussion Thread [self - mod] on: September 05, 2019, 03:37:54 PM
So Smith-Paine duo has crossed 100 runs partnership and are in good form. Earlier, it looked like both teams were in control. But post Lunch, things have changed and AUS looks dominating and are scoring at a faster rate. Considering that this is a batting pitch and the duos form, 450+ runs seems reasonable. And I don't believe that Eng will go down without a fight. So this match is more of a draw to me.

What happened during the 1st and 2nd tests just repeating again. Back then, Smith built valuable partnerships with lower order and tail end batsmen such as Siddle, Cummins and Lyon. We are not quite at the tail yet, but I think the Australian tail will add another 100 runs to push the total above 500. If that happens, then England will go down by an innings and more.
6136  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: T20 and T20I cricket prediction and discussion on: September 05, 2019, 03:30:35 PM
People might be making money with cricket betting but T20 is not that easy to predict and it is the hardest to predict if you compare Test matches and ODI as one player could change the match in an instant. People from Asian countries might be discussing India and Pakistan matches but outside the sub continent people will be talking about England and Australia  Tongue.

The shorter the game, the greater will be the chances of an upset. Most of the rookie teams are not capable of performing consistently over a long duration. But in a T20 game, they have greater chances as a single innings by a good batsmen or a single spell by a bowler can change the course of the game. BTW, now everyone in India is talking about the Ashes. In my opinion, the maximum TV revenue for Ashes will come from India, and not from either England or Australia.

Who do you think will advance to the next round?

My picks:
Argentina
Russia
Serbia
Spain
USA
Greece
Australia
Lithuania

My picks:

From group I: Russia, Argentina
From Group J: Serbia, Spain
From Group K: USA, Brazil
From Group L: France, Lithuania

In Group K, it is going to be tough fight between Brazil and Greece for the second spot, but I think Brazil will pull through. In Group L, three teams have almost equal chances of qualifying: Lithuania, France and Australia but IMO Australia will finish 3rd.

Tomorrow the United States is going to play against Japan. Now this is going to be very interesting, because we all saw how they struggled against a weak Turkey. I am not expecting an upset by Japan, but another lack-lustre performance by the Americans may add more pressure to the team. And remember that they may need to play against Greece in the second round.
6139  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Test Cricket Prediction and Discussion Thread [self - mod] on: September 04, 2019, 04:38:30 PM
The first thing I checked was the Australian lineup for the match. Finally they included Mitchell Starc. It was always frustrating to watch the no.1 Australian bowler sitting out and the idiotic selectors giving chances to mediocre bowlers. I would have liked Lyon to be replaced by another pacer, but for now it will do. Smith seems to be in fabulous form. The only question is whether he'll be able to score the century today, or we need to wait until tomorrow.

Note: heard that rain has returned. So we may have to wait until tomorrow for Smith's century.
6140  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Elon Musk Supports U.S. Presidential Candidate Who is Pro-Bitcoin on: September 04, 2019, 04:32:24 PM
I have heard that Andrew Yang is pro-Bitcoin, but he has hardly any chance of qualifying for the Democrat nomination. IMO, it is going to be another establishment candidate this time. I can think of a few names, but Elizabeth Warren, Kamala Harris and Joe Biden are having the maximum probability. I just hope that Biden wins the nomination, as the other two are outright lunatics.
