It's not a time buffer but an amount buffer. We don't disclose the exact amount, but it's definitely under 1000 ฿.
internal matching go against the users  everybody loses only bitcoinica wins money by saving mtgox fees, user dont have a alternative to bitcoinica and have to eat this crap, lets hope somebody make a alternative and you get some competition

IMO, Internal matching, if done without prejudice by the broker, simply increases order execution speed (something I'd really like from bitcoinica).

Hard to prove lack of prejudice on the broker's side, but.....

One thing that other brokers (i.e. Intersango) offer is a Fill or Kill order. Offering these would provide the order execution that it seems myself wants.
- I want BTC50 @ USD4.77
- Does bitcoinica have orders to match? If yes, filled, if no, or partial,
- Can the order be filled on the network (i.e. mtgox) if yes, fill order, if no, kill it.

If the brokerages were smart, they'd form a network and defeat the arbitrage bots exploiting the difference in rates between them. This would make orders fill much faster, and show the actual true market cap of bitcoin.

Sup bitscalper. How's tricks?

I dont understand this statement. Could you please explain?

Bitscalper was a website that claimed to run a bot.  Turned out to be a scam.  Don't worry, everyone's a troll here... you'll get used to it.

Anyway, good luck with your venture, but I think you'll find this community has plenty of programmers so simple bots are a hard sell.

Right, so it doesn't hurt Bitcoinica when you do this.  It just gives a small advantage to the minority opinion in the market since they can set orders that won't be touched by their trades.  This is a problem that will balance itself.

Doing this can result in your Bitcoinica account being closed. We don't allow fraudulent orders that try to cheat the pricing bot.

We are rolling out a major rewrite of our order matching engine for much faster order processing to eliminate the possibility of fraudulent orders.

EDIT: We closed one account during the early days of Bitcoinica because of fraudulent trading. After that, we implemented pricing algorithm version 2, and it's harder to manipulate the price now. We are going to release pricing algorithm version 4 soon.

That is good to hear. The market is so small a few thousand BTC/USD can really walk the price up/down several
cents in some situations to improve your short/long.

I was basically watching it happen again last night. But in the case of last night, the person was sold into a couple
of times defeating their attempt. (I think, this is all speculation).

It just seems it will be impossible to totally defeat it unless you want to delay moving the price as quickly when
new orders pop up or go away?

Faster trade execution will help.  People will stop doing this if bitcoinica chews up their own orders.

I recall that happening and that is not what I was referring to. These were actual orders
that influenced bitcoinica's values. While those did not if I recall correctly.

They put them in (ask orders), influenced bitcoinica (i think), got their short, and canceled the asks.
All within several minutes.

Just thought it was worth mentioning.

Um... Only bids can influence the sell price on bitcoinica.  They don't give a shit what others want to sell for.  The care what others will buy for when determining what price their customers can sell for.

AAPL back over $600...

Thanks for the hourly update... Let me know how that's working for you in a couple weeks.

IMHO Zombie deserves a scammer tag.

There is no difference in your costs.  It's just a matter of discipline.  Do you want to be responsible for keeping yourself in line, or would you rather the site enforce it for you?
6173  Economy / Speculation / Re: Gold collapsing. Bitcoin up. on: March 20, 2012, 04:06:53 PM

I only have a play money account in the real market but I really dont think we are going back below DOW13000 and S&P1400 for another few months.

I am watching AAPL as a potential lead indicator as well...  Sure the RSI is at 100 again(it basically has been since Jan) but with the dividend and share buyback announced along with this http://www.businessweek.com/news/2012-03-19/apple-sells-record-3-million-new-ipads-in-tablet-s-debut-weekend ... I think the pilling in of retail investors is just starting.  AAPL will continue bubbling to at least 700.

I'm interested (without prejudice; I don't have a horse in this race), how Apple's recent decision to start buying back stock and issuing dividends affects your analysis?

Won't their buying push the price up?

Announced dividend is 1.7% yearly at current prices... You still need more price appreciation to beat average inflation.  If deflation happens, overpriced phones and 99 cent songs will be among the first to go.

But, yes, I'm aware the market can remain irrational longer than I can remain solvent.  $200 short at 3:1 is a risk I'm willing to take.

red herring.  these type of announcements always occur at tops.  JPM did the same.

classic mistake of buying high and selling low.

S&P just bounced off of 1400... its not crashing yet...

600 of that 1400 is AAPL... I just sold a couple dogs in my portfolio (GBG, HPQ) and loaded up on SPXU.

Maybe it won't roll over, but what I let go was only losing me money anyway.

6176  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Hot tub miners on: March 20, 2012, 02:36:21 AM
It doesn't need to be anything fancy with connections. Just a box you stick underwater when you aren't using the hot tub.

As for "shockingly good time" just unplug the box and take it out when using the tub silly. And use a gfi outlet so the power is cut if any leaves the box into the water as a secondary measure (gfi is already installed on most outdoor outlets anyway on modern construction).

Why not run a copper coil for the hot water instead of putting your electronics underwater?
6177  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Hot tub miners on: March 20, 2012, 02:10:01 AM
BUT, arent we here to make some money too? not just save some by using waste heat.

Aren't these two equivalent?

If "you" provide a waterproof rig I can leave at the bottom of the pool and you "make" money and split it with me, that was worthwhile especially if it was just a couple gpu's. Do this with lots of people and you have money for little risk.

Sounds like a shockingly good time.

I like this thread, has it all: nuclear physics, market analysis, geopolitics,... so how to build a rocket?

1. Force liquidate all the overleveraged longs.  In order for a rally to be sustainable, we need to shake out these people.  Check
2. Maintain constant buying pressure without repeating the mistake above. Pending?
3. When the shorts get force liquidated, you have your "rocket". Possible

better?
6180  Economy / Speculation / Re: It's called a correction (waveaddict's bitcoin charting subscription thread) on: March 19, 2012, 11:09:52 PM
The 38.2% Fibonacci retracement off this sharp move from $5.26 to the first bottom of $4.84 was around $5. So the likely retrace to 5 after 4.84 was probably a wave 4 meaning that we are currently in a terminal 5 which will likely bottom us out in the 4.6 - 4.75 range before we head up in a meaningful correction.

Where do you see the price in 1 hour?

$7
