AMT is the Authorized distributor for BitMine.ch products and as such it is a safe bet that they by contract can only use  the CoinCraft A1 chips and boards supplied by BitMine.
.

They claim not to use bitmine.ch boards, nor do they resell them. Instead they brag about contracting 3 or 4 PCB assembly houses:
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=304605.msg5211012#msg5211012

They have no one but themselves to blame for this.
Never said they resell boards. Somewhere else in this thread is was said that they ARE using Bitmine boards. Most likely bare ones that the CM's stuff with support components and mount the chips on. As for the CM's, most are assembly houses, not full up manufacturers.  Many many do not make the pcb's in-house. They just stuff ones either supplied by the customer or their manufacture is subed out to someone like Sunstone or other places.

The thread referenced is irrelevent - BMch did not a have viable board at that point though whoever Innosilicon was working with did. Noise in the the BitMine thread is that Bitmine has ended up using those boards rebranded.

Actually... Those here who paid with bitcoins already have the AMT wallet address stored in their wallet transactions log.

Not that it matters much. Hell I have at least 5 addresses I use just to keep track of what pool is paying into it.
6183  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Official Thread: AMT on: March 30, 2014, 12:30:20 AM
So, anyone else here running Bitcoin Core program so they have the entire blockchain DB? I run it but that database is >18.7GB and I don't have the horsepower to search for strings.
6184  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Official Thread: AMT on: March 30, 2014, 12:13:25 AM
Hmm could it be because Bitine.ch is the cause of all this. Face it, whatever you may think of the pair Josh and his fledgling AMT has been badly burned by this as well by BMch. If The A1 product had been properly produced - in other words chips produced and characterized to verify design specs, tweaked a few times as needed BEFORE taking full payment pre-orders - then none of this would have happened.

Really? First of all, let me remind you that technobit (and more recently, several Chinese vendors) has/have been selling A1 based boards for quite some time.  Secondly, in AMT's latest post they claim they hired an engineering buro to design the shelves only 4 weeks ago. Thats after he already claimed to be shipping boatloads. I also fail to see how AMT's utter incompetence in getting a case made is in anyway Bitmine's fault.

Quote
As it stands, safe bet BMch is taking care of their own direct orders first followed by what BMch doles out to chip buyers and miner assemblers.

Where do you read that AMT has problems getting chips?  And didnt they have like "4 suppliers" for the PCB's ? Bitmine is responsible for the stunts they are pulling with their customers, no doubt, but I see no evidence AMT was significantly impacted.
AMT is the Authorized distributor for BitMine.ch products and as such it is a safe bet that they by contract can only use  the CoinCraft A1 chips and boards supplied by BitMine. BMch's travails are well posted in their own thread.

The 'other' A1's out there raises an interesting question about BitMine and Innosilicon. Details are sketchy at best but BMch contracted with Innosilicon to design the A1. Somewhere along the line it seems like Innosilicon was granted rights to sell the A1 by BitMine.ch. Now idea why and frankly I have never heard of a design deal like that. Possibly as form of payment for services rendered?

The A1 has a lot of standard Innosilicon IP in it, memory, routing and whatnot so I can see Innosilicon pushing matters if they were not getting paid or if there were disputes about the v1/v2 chips. They *do* work, just not as expected. (so even more off targets then what is being shipped now?) If that is the case, I can see Innosilicon pushing to be able to sell what v1/v2 chips had been produced and even keeping mgf/sale rights for those versions of the chip.

BitMin.ch is releasing orders now only for A1 v3 chips. Raises the question though - what version chips are in our AMT miners???

Looks like 1 miner chip company has learned their lesson from past fiascoes...
http://www.coindesk.com/avalon-asics-40nm-chip-bring-hashing-boost-less-power/

Note that Avalon is not doing pre-sales. The chips have been characterized and more importantly they are providing via github reference designs for various board form factors.

Gonna have to keep an eye on that...
6186  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Official Thread: AMT on: March 29, 2014, 11:07:33 PM
I assume the AMT units use the RasPi? If so, ya. My Ants use the RasPi running Arch as OS and OpenWrt as the router for running data to/from the ASIC's. Not especially responsive to the outside world while hashing. Hardly a problem though.
6187  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Official Thread: AMT on: March 29, 2014, 10:47:24 PM

Anybody capable of building the miners themselves should just have all the parts delivered, even if you forego the case and power supply(s), and have something else thrown in for the inconvenience. This option would save Josh a myriad headaches and downtime.

I'd be game for that esp considering mine is for just what was the 520. Considering the blades are 200GH each, make it 3 blades, backplane, controller & special cables along with a guideline to connecting things & running it and I'd be happy.
6188  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Official Thread: AMT on: March 29, 2014, 10:40:30 PM
Something I just remembered during this penning: Josh is not happy with Giorgio for some ass reason. There may have been a falling out there.

Please don't post my details here, just send me an email update, I choose what to post here, thanks.
Or, perhaps just update the order status on our AMT Account page maybe? Wink

We might be able to do that.
Hmm, now their page doesn't even have an accounts link. Someone musta broke it trying to actually use/access it?
6190  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Official Thread: AMT on: March 29, 2014, 06:12:54 AM
Transparency...

<snip>

Moral of the story - ask everyone, call around and get quotes, but ultimately the guy that runs that CNC is gonna know what to do and how to handle shit situations.

This is one of several factors that has attributed to our delayed status.

Transparency...

Now see? Doesn't that feel better getting that out?

As an industrial systems builder for nearly 40-years I can say, Been there - done that, yes it's Hell. With chips/boards so far off course, blind faith in all the rest being as it should be rarely works but ya do what ya gotta do.

I have one pert-near as good. Last year we get an order to upgrade 6 laser driller systems in Taiwan to our latest/greatest versions that literally have 3x the throughput, each upgrade coming in just over 300k$. Got in the PC's (with built-in Firewire to talk to everything else) and all the other hardware. got it all together, ran into a few issues & solved them. Ran each and every system 24x7 for 1 week. Perfect.

Got to Taiwan and physically installed the 1st upgrade <drum roll> the PC would not talk to the rest of the system. Firewire errors all over the place... WTF? Spent 2 days talking across the planet with folks trying to find out what the hell could have changed. Eventually just took the old FW plug-in card from the old PC, disabled the onboard one and all was well. Every system did that. 6 out of 6. Still no idea why other than the fact that Firewire can be a bitch to work with and if a combo of hardware works - get a lot of them and stick with it.

Nice bit is we just got an order from them for 9 more upgrades for this year Cheesy
6191  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Official Thread: AMT on: March 29, 2014, 05:58:49 AM

The chip itself has an overheat threshold which is around 130's C.
<snip>
And check to see if the cores in each chip are ok.
<snip>

No doubt check the chips... If that is the package temp the internal die is going to substantial higher than that. Not a good thing to do. Is that temp sensed on the die itself or the chip package/bga pad area?. If it's the die, pushing things but not *too* badly if off the die... yikes.
6192  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Official Thread: AMT on: March 29, 2014, 05:46:34 AM
Assuming you are running say over 5kw would be a good use of the waste heat and temps should be about right at least for hot water.

I have noticed that with my 4 Ant's the furnace stays off longer. Now to try and figure out how the electric & gas offset each other...
6193  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Official Thread: AMT on: March 29, 2014, 05:32:57 AM

I've love to see the rack case fully populated actually, I've not seen everything in one yet, thus my comments on tower, I'd thought you'd never ask actually...I just hope the cooling is equal to or exceeds the tower :-)

i as soon as my miners recieved that is will be looking at possibly trying to oil cool the unit either dump the lot in a fishtank of oil or building a thermal transfer unit and rad for the 200m fan with a push pul configuration as i see temps are really an issue if sucessful i will share with the community the results. plus maybe sell u guys some or give details how to make
Ah for the good ol'days of Dow Freon(r) thermal xfr fluids... Some of the old Cray's had beautiful fountains as part of the cooling loop...
6194  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Official Thread: AMT on: March 29, 2014, 05:27:37 AM
Rack mount ! Rack mount sis boom bah! Rack mount Rack mount rah rah rah!
Yes please...
6195  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Official Thread: AMT on: March 29, 2014, 05:08:05 AM
So amt I understand u get a lot of negative feedback on this forum, and I believe it is justified. People keep asking for transparency so why not entertain them a little better. So far all I have read seems to be that you are behind based on a limited production staff/ facilities. Are you making any attempts to correct this issue minus asking the community to come assemble for you? Hire a production manager maybe? Use six sigma principles to cost cut/ increase production? I understand frm your previous post your not breaking even or just barely. Maybe this could help?
6-sigma would apply to the chip/board makers, possibly to the CM's as well but is pretty useless for a AMT's small(ish) operation. I take it AMT is pretty much physical assembly of core parts into systems. Going through ISO-9000 on the other hand... Great for putting the business practices in order!

opieum2:
Luckily I got in late to the BTC scene. Saw BFL's10G Jala's on Tigerdirthere ect in-stock of course) in early Feb. and said what the hell. Got me hooked. Since BFL has their own very fine Forum - I saw the Monarch Saga and stayed away since it was a Not There Yet product.

Ordered the A1 chip 520 (now maybe a 600?) on Feb. 27 only after seeing the A1 chip advertised from several miner makers. Figured must be in production so...
6198  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Official Thread: AMT on: March 29, 2014, 04:15:04 AM

We have had several of those already.

As a general statement to this wonderful thread of helpful customers - it takes time to make a decent a product that wont break, it also takes money to do that. This industry does not allow for either, again we're working as fast as possible and are almost to the point where we'd like this to be over with already.

Where did that list of questions go?
If ya mean about system design my 1st would about thermals on the boards. Specifically regarding how close are the filter caps to the normally rather hot chokes feeding each ASIC? Got a manufacturer pn-on the caps or at least a temp rating? Aside from what I read in the A1 dev thread (not-production boards much less in a rack) anyone done any thermal probing?

BFL's literally Flaming Jalapeno's, Singles and their PSU's come to mind...
6199  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Official Thread: AMT on: March 29, 2014, 04:05:38 AM
ive been following the AMT diaries and really wanted to get one (tried 3 times) but I think I will have to look at Antminer or even at scrypt/asics.
Definitely avoid anything with the CoinCraft A1 chip in it as it is the root of these problems. Coupled with non-communication from the manufacturers both of the chip and systems based on it.... Insane. Now once the huge backlog - including compensation systems that BitMine.ch has promised their direct customers - is caught up and folks get kinks worked out of packaging, could be good but right no - nope.

Yes, ONLY on-hand and shipping today like Antminers. The Motha' that gave birth to 'pre-order' should have eaten it instead of the afterbirth.

I get mine through Amazon, free fed-ex, credit card and vendor protection, import-fees already done. Well worth the extra bit vs wire-xfrs to the factory. So far Jones Gear there has the best deals.

"(1) 1 in every 8 coincraft A1 chips are claimed to be defective.  Which should not be an issue since you should be able to test a chip before you mount in on the board!"

Not that easy with power BGA devices which pull most of their heat away through the bottom contact balls. The usual ZIF test sockets cannot be used because they are not designed to pull away the heat from full power testing and ya can't just slap a cold-plate on top of the chip but - that is an issue between BM.ch/CoinCraft and Global Foundries who make the chip. Obviously GF was told to not test the chips under load (more expensive), just do limited go/no-go.

Then again, considering it typically cost 50-100million USD to bring a 28nm node chip into production, one would think that maybe 5% more to cover 100% full load burn-in would not have been a bad idea...
