I have reason to believe this person's account is compromised.

I am taking this step to prevent possible future issues, not because there are any current issues. For privacy reasons I can not discuss the details of why I made this decision, so please don't ask.

Ok...

... I think it may have been a brute-force attack.

Unlikely unless you're sloppy.

To prove the point, 10 bitcoin for each pass for any of these unsalted MD5s:

Challenge accepted.

Rainbow tables exist for 10character alphanumeric... they're only ~320GB.

Exactly my point.

Nothing happened - as I explained I reviewed their policy and found a potential future issue. I can't get more specific than that.

Well, would you care to explain that issue?
626  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Payment is unconfirmed after an hour... on: June 19, 2011, 03:32:50 PM
My first Bitcoin sent to my other box took four hours.  I did not pay a fee.  I was worried at first too.  Trust me, it'll arrive :-)

Try to see if you can find your payment on this page.

If it appears on there, then the only thing you can do is wait till it gets included in a block.

It doesn't appear on there...

Make sure the client has >0 connections.

After a detailed review of Steam policies I unfortunately must announce that I am no longer offering Steam games. I can still supply you with practically any game you like - it just WILL NOT be gifted thru the Steam system. You can load the games I still am selling, and easily attach it to your Steam account later if you like.

Because of possible security concerns I can no longer provide the Steam gifting service. As for my past customers, there is absolutely nothing to be concerned about. Your games and account are safe and nothing has been compromised. I have yet to have a single dissatisfied customer, and I intend to keep it that way. I am taking this step to prevent possible future issues, not because there are any current issues. For privacy reasons I can not discuss the details of why I made this decision, so please don't ask.

THE GOOD NEWS:
I am still offering any games you can find on http://www.GoG.com , or on http://www.GreenmanGaming.com and they are usually cheaper than Steam!
If you have other preferred outlets please let me know and I will look into offering games from that retailer as well.  Thank you to all my customers past and future. Game on!

What happened to Steam?

Seems like there are some misunderstandings here. The difficulty is adjusted every 2016 blocks, which is about 2 weeks in real time. (Less if the network hashrate is growing during the interval.) It does not vary from one day to the next, unless one of the second day is a retargeting event. It will also not change the way that it works in 2040 or anything. Rather, the subsidy will continually increase every 210000 blocks (about 4 years) by a factor of 2. This is what leads to the final value approaching somewhat less than 21 million.

+1

632  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Anyone plese a Bitcoin tech or other knowledgable bitcoin person on: June 19, 2011, 11:31:52 AM
Alright, I'm really getting messed up here,

I've been searching and searching for topics I can't find.

1.  What is the latest version of bitcoin?
2.  What is the latest version of Phoenix miner?  (I'm running 1.47)
    A.  How do I know it's a safe version?  (Not posted from some scammer)
3.  How do I know I'm connected to the bitcoin network?
Bitcoin is not firewalled, I'm generating, only 1-2 connections, but my blocks do not change?
4.  How long does it take the addnode to catch up on blocks?
    A.  How do I know the addnode thing is working?
5.  Why can't I get my BC client to receive coins without doing addnodes or something else?
6.  How come on one computer I see Generat bitcoin option but on other computers I don't have that option?
7.  How do I know I have my computer on the right port?
8.  How come all my Bitcoin transactions are big time delay?

Thank in advance for anyone whom can help.

First off, you said your using Phoenix in #2, but then you said your using the bitcoin client (Generate Bitcoins option). DONT USE THE CLIENT!

It's a waste of power. You might be lucky to get a block in 6 years.

1 ) 0.3.23
2 ) Goto the Phoenix thread in the Mining Software forum section.
2A ) Same as above.
3 ) You will have more than 0 connections on the client.
4 ) Depends on your internet speed.
4A ) If you have more than 0 connections.
5 ) You might be firewalled.
6 ) As I said, don't use that, but the ones with the Generate Bitcoin option are outdated, so download the latest BitCoin client.
7 ) You will have more than 0 connections.
8 ) Because of the way the network handles transactions.

If you need to know more please look @ the wiki and read the FAQ.

Hey there,

as I live in Australia I am wondering what options I have to trade BTC - AUD.
Which trading platform would you recommend and why?
How do you trade (from Australia).

Cheers
End

Drop by #bitcoin-aus sometime.

Could somebody please close down this shameless self-enrichment thread? Thanks.

Why is this a shameless self-enriched thread? Or, maybe, HOW is it?
638  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Diablominer Pool and Solo mining question on: June 18, 2011, 05:13:54 PM
I figured out the bitcoin client problem. I just had to download the latest revision. I'm still only hashing at ~400 Mega hashes/sec. Some help would be nice...
You need to run 4 different programs, as 6xxx are 2 gpu's (pretty sure), and you have 2 of them.

Moderators should not hand out bad advice like that. Only one 6xxx is 2 GPUs, the 6990 (which is the replacement for the 5970, the only 2 GPU 5xxx). DiabloMiner supports unlimited GPUs with a single instance, so no, he needs to run 1.

Ok, gosh. Don't need to go around bashing other mods just because of what happened to you. And that's exactly why I said "pretty sure", but obviously I was wrong. Thanks for correcting me, but you would have been nicer about it.
639  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Cant run DiaboloMiner on Win7 GM100 GeForce Nvida card on: June 18, 2011, 05:09:39 PM
Okay i installed some OpenCL thinge and im using GUIminer now.

After i run it it has speed of 1,5Mhash but after like hour-two of running i get error 'verification filed, check your hardware'
i also have 0 blocks accepted all the time, even before the verification error comes.

any ideas?

http://forum.bitcoin.org/index.php?topic=3878.0 i use this miner, without nay extra flags

Don't use a nVidia card to mine. You'll probably make $2 a month. And be spending $50 extra in power bills.
640  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: worth it to build a mining rig now?? on: June 18, 2011, 05:00:08 PM
well how long do you think it would take to get a return of my money?

I'm not sure, but with the difficulty increasing every 2 weeks, it will be a while depending on what parts you have, and how much you spend.
