Taking the IEO route is better and more safer than the ICO route given the scam that has plague ICO sector. My fear is that scam projects will be more advanced in their act and may decide to take the IEO path, deceive the investors as well as the exchange hosting them. I don't see any altcoins outperforming bitcoin ever, but very possible if you are talking about profit gains. There good altcoins that can give you much profit than BTC. You just have to do your personal research.

Doge is a good coin that has been around for while and has been more relevant in the industry, but I won't advise to make any major investment with it. Simply because it doesn't really have any use case. It only comes in handy for me when I want to move my coins around to avoid high transaction fees. It is one of the coins with low fee and fast transaction.
