621  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Meme Post sold for $28000 !!! on: October 23, 2021, 07:00:15 PM
Who was the original owner of the meme? Eva Beylin?
Nevertheless, this is ridiculous how the NFT market is growing. This is not the first time; nor the last. I won't be surprised if someone bids/buys the NFT with 70 ETH.

Seems that this just proves that there's a lot of people that don't know what to do with their coins. I mean, this is good for the industry but the price for a simple meme reaching that high is simply ridiculous
622  Economy / Speculation / Re: Market Sentiment on: October 23, 2021, 06:40:45 PM
I guess this should be moved to category Marketplaces - Services.
623  Economy / Services / Re: Being a part of the moderation team for 3 projects ( and more) = $300/month on: October 23, 2021, 03:25:14 PM
I would like to be a part of the team. I have already worked as a community manager for the Goldcoin project and had to do forum moderation as well so I do have some experience. Is this still available? If so, could you hit me with a PM here or Telegram @CryptoBiter

Cheers,
624  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Advice: 1 BTC on: October 23, 2021, 03:09:04 PM
This might be more personal as well confidential to we all, but if you're to share your thoughts or advice one on how to spend he's/her 1btc what would that be ?
Estate management ?
More in Bitcoin ?
Investment in the Stock market ?
Maybe your ideas might or will be helpful.

If I were to invest 1BTC in something other than the cryptocurrency it would be in Real estate. With the current price, you can perhaps buy a house and real estate property is always a good investment. If not, I would try to duplicate my coins and would invest 1BTC in a few crypto projects that I consider to a lot of potential on the long run.
625  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Going public saying you own Bitcoin is not safe anymore on: October 23, 2021, 01:36:27 PM
Nowadays we need to be careful when publicly admitting to owning Bitcoin. A lot of crypto traders have been receiving threats as in the case of Daniel one of the guys from Chart Champions.

Things are escalating as, apparently, a 14-year-old kid from England got kidnapped after bragging on social media posts about having lots of money made from trading cryptocurrencies.

That's why I don't like anyone to know I'm in the Crypto business.
626  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Another attempt at Bitcoin ETF..You knew it was coming once BTC raised above ATH on: October 23, 2021, 12:01:26 AM
Plenty of good news coming out! A lot of ETFs are being prepared to set sail. Not only VanEck, Grayscale also announced it was looking to have NYSE filing a document requesting for their GBTC fund to be converted into an ETF:

627  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Binance.US takes price 87% down on: October 22, 2021, 11:27:27 AM
Looks like that Binance.US had some issues which caused the price to drown below 9k. I wonder who was the lucky guys buying at such low prices  It seems that this was not the first time an incident like this happen. Back in 2017, Coinbase saw the price of Ethereum being flushed down from $319 to 10 cents. Apparently, this also happened with Traditional Trading. So this may well be moves caused by exchanges themselves to access low prices.

I would like to know what causes this sort of spikes and if this could happen again.
628  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Off chain transactions (trigger warning) on: October 21, 2021, 11:48:09 AM

Now what if Visa added BTC as a supported currency?

We are talking about competitors here mate. On one side, you have Visa that represents Banks and the old financial model. On the other side, the LN represents Decentralized finance and financial freedom. Can't say that the two would be able to mingle. As said, they are competitors with completely different financial approaches. Competition between these two approaches should escalate in the coming years.
629  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Tether and BTC's current price on: October 21, 2021, 02:26:53 AM
Speaking of Tether: CFTC Orders Tether and Bitfinex to Pay Fines Totaling $42.5 Million.

Quote
October 15, 2021

Washington, D.C. — The Commodity Futures Trading Commission today issued an order simultaneously filing and settling charges against Tether Holdings Limited, Tether Limited, Tether Operations Limited, and Tether International Limited (d/b/a Tether) for making untrue or misleading statements and omissions of material fact in connection with the U.S. dollar tether token (USDT) stablecoin. The order requires Tether to pay a civil monetary penalty of $41 million and to cease and desist from any further violations of the Commodity Exchange Act (CEA) and CFTC regulations, as charged.

So they are quite shady and running on the premise of running on a "fractional reserve".

I also urged members to read a post by @NotATether - Is Tether really that stable? Let's find out.

That's what I was referring to.
Quote
"Fractional reserve banking is a system in which only a fraction of bank deposits are backed by actual cash on hand and available for withdrawal. This is done to theoretically expand the economy by freeing capital for lending"

The way I see it is that Tether is being used like a hose that pumps from one end to flush out everything in the other end. If this is the case, serious implications will eventually rage...
630  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Tether and BTC's current price on: October 21, 2021, 12:11:24 AM
BTCCorrect me if I'm wrong, but in my understanding, Tether (USDT) is kinda like a digital dollar, but in reality, it is not backed by the federal reserve, but it functions as if it was as it can be issued regardless of any protocol restrictions. In 2017, rumours spread around the community saying Bitfinex was issueing Tether like if there was no tomorrow. So, my question here is, how is the issuance of USDT is managed and controlled and could someone "print" a lot of Tether out of thin Air and use it to inflate Bitcoin's price?
631  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Why the commission charged by exchanges for buying or selling bitcoin is cheaper on: October 20, 2021, 08:55:46 PM
I guess that you are mixed up with what is a decentralized exchange such as Sushiswap where the fees are in fact related to the transaction fees with centralized exchanges such as Binance where you need to deposit your coins to transact.

Commissions charged by exchanges have nothing to do with the transaction fees. When you buy from an exchange, you are buying from another user. What happens is that the exchange acts as a third party that joins sellers and buyers together to trade. In exchange for the service provided, they charge fees, and those are the ones you pay when you buy or sell your coins on an exchange. Different exchanges, charge different fees.

However, if you use decentralized exchanges, you will pay higher fees as the fees you are paying are in fact related to the transaction fee as you are transacting directly from your wallet and not from a centralized exchange.
632  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Do you spend your Bitcoin? on: October 20, 2021, 08:30:32 PM
Do you spend your Bitcoins or just hodl?

If you spend
What for and do you miss something that cannot be bought for Bitcoin yet?

If you hodl
For how long and why don't you spend?
Do you have exit strategy or you will spend it after you can buy your desired thing?

Nah! I have used it as a currency for quite a while but now I'm just trying to hoard. Plenty of other cheap options if I want to use crypto to pay for something. With the fee cost and its ever-growing price, it is better to use it as a store of value than to use it as currency.

634  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: Cryptopia Cryptocurrency Platform Services and Development on: October 20, 2021, 05:33:31 PM
I'm starting to initiate my claim but I'm stuck at the 2FA step. I still have it set up from the time the site was still running, however, it is not recognizing it. I have tried to contacts support but, since early July I have no answer at all. Anyone with the same issue?
635  Economy / Gambling / Re: Best Site for Gambling? on: October 20, 2021, 04:54:41 PM
Hello to all.
are there any gamblers who play high limits and always manage to withdraw their winnings from betting crypto sites?
because even reading the A tier I find that often the winnings are not paid and money get blocked and I don't know which one to trust.
Thank you for any advice

I fancy Betcoin.ag a lot. They seem pretty legit. I usually only use their live sportsbook and haven't had any issues when withdrawing from the site. Back in 2014, They also had poker rooms and that's when I have made a lot of money from the site. Now they just have Video Poker, but I don't like it very much. Just try it out and you may like it

636  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How can we accelerate the mass adoption of crypto? on: October 20, 2021, 04:19:42 PM
I just saw this topic "What problems in Bitcoin's infrastructure prevent it from being adopted more easily?". All the answers were really interesting, mentioning the lack of regulation, volatility, ignorance, etc.

My question is: How can these problems be solved? And is it ever possible, what do you think?

In my opinion, regulation, practicality, and stability are definitely required for the mass adoption of crypto as a payment method/currency.
What are your opinions on this?

In order to be used as a currency, Bitcoin's volatility needs to stabilize. It also needs regulation so that users can be safeguarded, but not so much that it can stifle development. Besides, we need to have a more friendly way of using BTC and other cryptos. If crypto wants to become mainstream, an easier way of use needs to be developed.
637  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Basic Types of Trading on: October 20, 2021, 03:10:42 PM
There are 3 actually, the last one is margin trading. It might seem the same as futures however its slightly different than futures.

Basically on margin you got much less leverage, usually 10x instead of 125x. You also pay different fees and the bitcoin that you long, is actually bought on the real spot market. So you are not buying a derivative like you are on the futures platform.

With margin you pay a fixed rate depending if you long or short bitcoin. And on futures the rate is determined by the funding rate or the futures premium/discount. So they are more or less the same but with different rules.

They are more or less the same, but you forgot to say that Futures is a lot riskier. With margin trade, you can easily strand small price reversals whereas with futures you get immediately capitulated
638  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin in Movies. on: October 20, 2021, 11:25:45 AM
If you are a fan of Movies, then you will know Jason Momoa. This year on August 20, Jason Momoa has touched Bitcoin in his movie "Sweet Girl" and has been one of the trending Netflix movies that have been watched by over 10 million people so far. In this movie at the end we see Jason Momoa's daughter (Isabela Merced) going to Bitcoin ATM and exchanging her money from Fiat to Crypto.

Jason Momoa is a very popular artist, some of his other movies like "Aquaman" were watched by over 60 million people and made a profit of more than $1.3 billion so it is my hope that "Sweet Girl" will be more watched.

The act of her daughter changing her money to crypto clearly showed that crypto is more secretive because she exchanged her money when she was fleeing from her country to another country and was being hunted by the government. This means she did it because she believed even if she was arrested by the government her money would still be in a safe place in the crypto world.

Do you think that if these great actors in the film industry will continue to integrate Bitcoin and other currencies into their works will they help add new stakeholders to the crypto world? Because I believe in 10 million viewers, then at least 1 million will want to know why the girl changed her money to Bitcoin, and that will be the beginning of them learning about Bitcoin.

What is your opinion on this?

Bitcoin is a financial reality in the digital age, so in my understanding, it is an important aspect of modern society and a matter that filmmakers will surely mention in future films or series. In the movie you mention, Bitcoin shows as a tool that helps protect your money from the ever-increasing corrupt Government. I certainly see it not as fiction but as pure reality, as it reminds me a lot of what Kasperski had to do to protect his money from the US Government.

TAXATION IS THEFT
639  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / Re: Coinbase Partnering with NBA and WNBA on: October 20, 2021, 10:19:26 AM
I didn't find much of the nft market opportunity in sports even though it includes entertainment media.

If you highlight the last paragraph of the article,
Many crypto companies and platforms have formed partnerships with sports organizations across the globe as the space expands and seemingly becomes more profitable as a sponsor. Crypto derivatives exchange FTX announced it had become the official sponsor of Major League Baseball in June and previously struck a deal to name the Miami Heat’s home stadium the FTX Arena until 2040.
you will be made clear that this partnership has a sponsorship purpose behind its primary goal of mediating crypto education space for NBA fans.

This isn't big news either. There are other companies like Chiliz that focus more on the sports industry and build partnerships with sports clubs around the world.

I can't say that I agree with you. Yes, there are a few projects including Chiliz focusing on the Sports Industry but nothing compared to this. This move will bring a lot of awareness to the crypto ecosystem. I really believe this will bring a new wave of users coming fresh to the crypto industry and base to propel Bitcoin to 100k
640  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: 6000 coinbase clients hacked on: October 20, 2021, 03:19:08 AM
I am one of the guys who got crooked when Cryptopia went down. To this day I'm waiting for the Claims for the heist to be sorted but it seems that is halted and I probably won't see any compensation back for the lost funds. I wonder if the guys who got hacked at Coinbase will ever have the option to claim their losses...
